Hi everybody
Currently on a Desire HD, development has dried up a lot and considering moving to the nexus line of phones next time. My contract finishes in mid November. Now my question is, will there be a new Nexus phone available by then? Is that the prediction based on the release dates of the previous phones?
And if the prediction is that there will not be a new model by then, would it be wise to go for a newer phone such as the HTC One X or Samsung Galaxy S3?
Thanks in advance for the help guys
Must likely one will be out, our out soon. But hey a galaxy nexus right now is only three hundred and fifty new

Hopefully a new Nexus will be out then. I paid an extortionate price on my Desire HD contract just so I could get a cheaper deal on the second phone lol, was just thinking I dont want to go for a year old phone when I get a new 24 month contract.
Oh btw, does development for the nexus phones go on for longer than the other "regular" phones? DHD and Desire are pretty much finished, everythings a bit cluttered and broken because of hardware compatibility and that for ICS. Official kernels take forever to arrive. I imagine Nexus phones dont have that problem?

Most probably there will be a new Nexus phone at the end of the year, along with the rumored Nexus 10. But the new phone won't be $350 like the GNex is now

I am fine with the higher price just as long as it isnt extortionate. Something around what the GS3 is now I could live with.
Do Nexus phones have a longer development support time than other phones such as HTC's? Would there be a lot of development for several years to come or does it seriously slow down after the new Nexus model is released?

On a Nexus S now.... It's slowed down but not bad. It's definitely not dead.
I'd say you're usually SOL after a couple generations. Nexus One owners are probably in a very similar boat as you Desire owners currently
I dont know about a new nexus being out by Christmas but I'm pretty sure the next nexus will be announced at least. I'm thinking the next Nexus will be made by Motorola.

Google has only officially been able to work with Motorola for about a month. No way they have already worked on a phone design that will be ready by the end of the year. Plus, if they come out with a single Motorola phone as the next Nexus device, then Google will piss off all their partners. It would be the worst thing they could do and Google knows it.

Out of curiosity, what's your beef with Samsung's build quality? I've never owned a Motorola phone (not since the Startac anyway), so I can't speak to that. I do know that my Nexus seems better built than my HTC Evo 4G.
Remember next November the 5th its android's 5th anniversary and there's 5 nexus devices to be released on that date

I wouldn't hold your breath on an new nexus phone by the end of this year. Nexus phones aren't really released by a time basis, meaning once a year, even though it seems like it. Nexus devices are released along side new software versions. So I highly doubt we will see a new Nexus phone running Jelly Bean. If we were it would have been released along side the Nexus 7. I think our best bet for a new Nexus Phone will be when Key Lime Pie is released. I honestly don't see that happening by the end of the year. Not when most Android devices aren't even on ICS yet. I think it will be about 9-12 months before we get key lime pie, and once we do we most likely will have the next generation nexus phone.

God I hope not. I have never been impressed with Motorola phones. IMHO Samsung as the best phones. Honestly I wouldn't mind if Google released AOSP phones on different device manufactures at the same time. But, I guess this is already rumored.

Has this been confirmed? I thought it was only a rumor. Also some articles I read put the Nexus 7 and Nexus Q among those five devices.
Nexus development lifespans far exceed regular OEM devices. Remember they get the software first no strings attached. So everything in this years development cycle ICS will be the same for next year JB etc. And it'll go on as long as the hardware is compatible. My friends running a Nexus S w/ JB. And when the GNex dropped he swore it (Nexus S) ran ICS better than the GNex. Seems like you already know this but just want confirmation. So here it is. As long as your Nexus' hardware stays relevant, you'll be in on the latest software development

Hmm you have a point. Judging from the wiki on Android version history though it does seem like there is a major (not incremental) software upgrade every 8-12 months, with the exception being 2.0 to 4.0 (for phone users, skipping 3.0 Honeycomb) which was about 15 months. So keeping to that timeline, I would think it is possible they release the new version of Android either at the end of this year or early next year because I dont think Android 5.0 will be as big a step up from ICS as ICS was from GB because most of the fundamental work I would say is done with the main ICS and the Jelly Bean incremental, its just a matter of adding a few features here and there and cleaning it up slightly.

Thats true, but I was judging from the wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history) the times between major versions of Android.
hey , i was just wondering when is the next Galaxy Nexus going to be released, Ive herd google is planning on releasing 5 new devices , i just want an idea of potential release date, price, and specs ,
No one knows. Probably won't be for a while considering they only just revealed jb and the nexus 7 to go with it
Swyped from a Galaxy S2
Next "Galaxy Device" Launch is on August 15...... But not the Nexus series, i guess
There might be a chance it won't even be Samsung.
I would love to see Asus give phones another shot.
Or even a One neXus from HTC would be amazing.
There are some rumours about the 5th of November 'cause Android is going to celebrate its fith birthday on this date - 5th Nov, 5th Birthday, 5 devices by 5 manufacturers
It was one device made by 5 different companies, not 5 new devices.

1 device made by 5 different companies?sound interesting, but is that really possible?
Just wondering if there are devices with a manufacturing date past October 2013 as the 2 I've bought (and returned) were both of the same date.
Now I don't mean this to be a another "defects thread"--and the 2 I've returned had defects, indeed (dead pixels, touch issues)--but I do want to know if anyone has had luck with newer ones, if there are any. I really need a tablet, but I just can't go with a non-Nexus one. GPE devices don't apply as I'm in Canada.
Anyone?

I've seen 3 from July, one had the touchscreen issues and had to be returned. The new one is also July, working fine. I don't think manufacturing date matters so much as blind luck. Really terrible QA.
How to know my device manufacture date?

Now that Google will no longer sell our beloved Nexus 7, does this also mean that they will also stop manufacturing it? I hope not, as I would like to replace my Nexus 7 with a new Nexus 7 if it breaks.

I'm thinking manufacturing is over but new ones will be available through ebay, amazon, best buy and whatnot for a few months. Probably not after xmas. Refurbished units will be available longer.
hello,
i read at the web that the Nexus 5x will be updated until September 2017.
Is that correct? I have promised a friend that I buy the device from him.
Yesterday Vodafone Germany say me that i can get a new Device.
I don´t know what should i do.

Hello,
The nexus 5x is supported by Google until September 2017 for newer android versions (Which means our device will probably get the next big android release, Android 8.0). Also Google will support nexus 5x with the latest security patches (every month you get one) until September 2018 (which means you will also have one of the most secure android devices until then).
And of course, it's one of the last two Nexus devices ever. With no new Nexus devices on the horizon, development on XDA and elsewhere should continue longer than normal past Google's EOL for the Nexus 5X (and Nexus 6P).
Thanks for your information. I think I will buy it from my friend.
