What is "Cell Standby"? And is it supposed to take up this much battery?

Hello, I would like to know what exactly "Cell Standby" is and if it's supposed to be taking up 25-30% of my battery. I have been trying to find the reason for battery loss. When I use my phone the battery life is OK but when I leave it for about 8 hours the battery drops dramatically. It seems the more frequently I use it, the less the battery drains.

Oops! Forgot to check this is a question. Could a mod do that please?

Your best bet is to download BetterBatteryStats and let it monitor your battery for a charge cycle.
Although, From experience I'd expect you have bad reception. If that's the case, you should try flashing other modems.

There's isn't a ''better'' modem per say. Go in the modem thread and look for your carrier's modems. Start by flashing the latest release and see if your reception is good (3-4 bars).
We can't suggest modems as they act completely different on every device and area on top of being carrier specific most of the time.

Are you on stock?
If you answered yes, then don't bother about it. There's a small error in the value in the current being reported to battery stats (more like actual value multiplied by 10 cos of a decimal misplacement).
This has been corrected on literally all custom ROMs here.

Modem is not included in ROMs. Check the OP; it is normally stated there IF they include modem. If nothing is stated, it is assumed that the modem is not included.

I am on 3G (to save battery) so would that also be affecting my signal? And can I just install any modem or do I need to install the one that matches my baseband version?

This graph is disturbing. But it represents my phone before I flashed to the stock puerto rican ROM that had no carrier bloat (with CWM).

granted, the guy doesn't have a lot of screen time going on here, but the phone has logged over 34 hours of up-time and appears to have 50% or so of battery still left. you used to get 3 or more days of standby?

My i747 will not be able to do an entire day on standby (with the AT&T stock ROM).
However, it will provide 4.5 hours constant gaming or about 5 hours watching 720p movies with the backlight set on auto (4G/LTE enabled).
My main current draw is during the period in which the phone is not being used.

Try switching to 3G and disabling auto-sync.

So to fix this, I just re-flash the modem that my phone has, right?

Just received an alert for a new update. What does this update do? I installed it and nothing changed. I never really experienced heating issues before.

It's bugfixes for heating issues and the camera mostly.
Normal day-to-day usage on .6, .8, and .15 software didn't result in any significant heat problems, but running intensive benchmarks like 3DMark ES 3.1 or a few runs of Antutu and the phone would turn into a small oven. On the .30 software the benchmarks are about 7% - 10% lower but even under insane conditions the phone is only slightly warm.

Ah. I did run a benchmark test on .15 with Antutu and the phone got warm, but not hot. What does this update do for the camera?

Nice - confirmed on my Dev Edition as well (both are 617).

I have the dev edition and have not really noticed any heat issues until the upgrade, I think the software scales back this cpu a bit. While the update was installing, my phone became an oven, and it only took 2-3 minutes to install. Once in the OS, it cooled down quickly and functioned normally.

Can you guys post a few random shots using full auto mode after updated? We would like to take a look at the exifs.

They just got the ota, we got last week

OK, I received the .30 update and I will say the phone still feels hot on the back, especially if playing YouTube videos non stop for 30 minutes

Even with this update the phone does still get warm. I'm sure HTC will release more maintenance updates. The phone is brand new and will have issues like all phones when new.

Battery Life On XtreStoLite 2.1 (COF8)

Ever since I switched to this rom my phone has been so much quicker in terms of responsiveness. The animations are snappier too.
Battery life however has been what I liked most about flashing this rom (naturally ?). My Edge has been off the charger for nearly 20 hours with Bluetooth on the entire time for Android Wear and a weird snapchat wakelock that maintained a network connection for 5 hours. Screen time was over 4 hrs. Still at 10% as I type this.
Much much better than stock ?

I'm using this rom with unikernel 4.001 I'm getting like 5 1/2 sot in a 24 hour use I can sleep 8 hours and lose 1 % lag free

Has anyone updated to xtrestoLite 2.2 with unikernel 6? I updated but feel as if 2.1 and unikernel 3 actual have me better battery life. I manage just about barely 4 hours currently without Bluetooth on. Btw how did you manage to get Google services so low that it doesn't even show up in your battery stats? Mine is constantly on to with around 30% usage.

Yeah I'm gonna stick with 2.1 for now. As for my Google services not showing up in my stats, I couldn't tell you, I'm not doing anything different in particular. I leave sync on as well.

Hey, is it safe to install a rom on an unlocked t mobile s6 edge? I remember I saw a thread before saying unlocked phones are risky? I use AT&T

so i rooted and installed this rom and what a difference, battery life is almost double and performance is incredible, no more lag.. thanks for posting

From what I've read you should be fine provided you follow the steps outlined in the rom's thread. If you've read otherwise then link me to it?

Unlocked Phones: If you have unlocked your phone, you might run into problems with 5.1.1. There have been reports of phones stuck in a boot-loop when upgrading from 5.0.2 -> 5.1.1 when the phone has been unlocked or EFS/IMEI has been tampered with. Combine this with the new "FRP LOCK" (Factory Reset Protection) in 5.1.1, and you might find yourself with a complete brick with no warranty. This issue may or may not have anything to do with rooting or custom firmware

How did you accomplish this stats?? At best I can only manage 4 hours with unibade on 2.2, with most push notifications and toggles off.

G4 always running hot with MM

Just updated to 20e on H812. Battery drain is really high and phone is hot when not in use too.
Everything is stock, I can't root it anyway.
Looked at Apps but can't find anything draining battery that much.
Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. H810 here. Updated to MM, factory reset, even gave it a couple of weeks to settle in. I usually unplug around 8am and go to work. Usually a few text messages and emails, but not much use. Sometimes I'll pick it up around noon, after not really using it at all, and it'll be hot, and down to about 30% battery. I used to make it through the day no problem. Now it would take me 3 batteries to make it usually.

Yah., me too.
it's really bad after the update.
hope they update it soon again., I even try to switch my provider for some better signal., got better.
but still worse than before. also how much RAM is consumed by MM ?
mine is around 2 - 2,1 Gig.
it's more than before.

Yes more ram usage then before but my phone runs better then on LL. It's faster but battery drain in terrible.

I had this a while ago, i fixed it with disabling fast dormancy.
Go to the hidden menu, type *#546368#*812#
Then go to field test>Modem settings>PDP setting>0 and sellect fast dormancy off.
Reboot phone and you should be fine
Worked for me, check for urself

I'm not entirely sure. It has something to do with keeping ur mobile data on even when ur mobile doesn't need it, so to next time u go browsing or something it won't have to turn on again.
Pretty vague ****, google it if u really want to figure it out.
As far as i know, my carrier doesn't even support it
I noticed no effect in disabling fast dormancy on performance.
It had a huge effect on my battery though.

What do you think it is? I'm using the same ROM an kernel ans don't have battery issues. Maybe an app causing the drain? Flash RUU to see if it happens stock.

I had this problem, no matter what ROM kernel I used on both Nougat and Oreo. I replaced to battery and no more problems.

Well I tried to get a replacement battery by using the warranty.
So I tested the battery test on both, stock nougat and stock oreo.
Nougat was 96% after the test while oreo was already by 86%!
Sadly it has to be below 70%...

i installed the elite kernel and did the test and got 89 but the drain is present, when i use the phone
edit: after using it for 4 minutes it dropped to 85

I don't know how this test is working. But since I needed these numbers for the support chat, I took this comparison.
Everything else I made is not really comparable.
But the drain es exactly why I am in contact with the support.
Everyday I get up, eat, play a little game, every time the same time, put music on ears and drive to university.
All in all about 20min SOT and 1h10min music playing, mainly screen off.
Before Oreo I was able to get over the day, after the mentioned time, I had way over 70% left, can't exactly say how much.
Since Oreo it was below 70% and I needed to recharge midday, when it already dropped below 50%.
I don't like the Idea of replacing the battery right now...
Maybe we will get another firmware update soon.
But checking other forums, Samsung S8(+) for example, they have similar problems. But many even say it better than on nougat.

Ist there any News About a filmware Update? I almost Cant Use the phone without having a Powerbank in my pocket

All of this happened to me six months ago. I was on stock MM (rooted, S-off). I went crazy studying Better Battery Stats and trying everything. At first it would go down do 50% after maybe an hour of Sot, then 30%.
Then I just started using it plugged in all the time and I couldn't get it above 20%.
Took it to someplace (like Ubrreakifixit or whatever) had battery replaced for ~$100 (which sucked), but that was the problem.
Just an FYI to OP and anyone else... I didn't want to believe it was the battery for a month and tried all other options.
But it's the battery.

It's not a firmware issue because every one on the same firmware would be experiencing it. Have you flashed a RUU yet to see if this all happens on stock? If so it's a hardware failure.

No, they are from 30. April 2018
They are talking about a ota zip for updating. (Page 107)
3.16.709.3 -> 3.16.709.8 (Feb 2018 patch)
But it is ota for taiwan only right now.

EDIT: Default on XDA is 10 posts per page. Maybe you have it set for more? You can set it for up to 50 posts per page in settings
