[Q] LG G4 on Cricket Wireless - is it possible ? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm in market for a new Android device. I've decided for LG G4 primarily for its camera capability. Coming from Lumia 1520 it is important point for making decision.
I'm on Cricket Wireless and want to know if it is possible to use and AT&T LG G4 on Cricket Wirless ? Also what is reliable place to buy one ? I can wait for a month or two as I already have working device that I'm using right now.
One more question, I see few LG G4 H815 (which as per GSM Arena is International version), will this thing work with 4G LTE if I buy one from ebay ? Or I should wait for H810 which AT&T uses to be more widely available ?
Thanks in advance.

AT&T's would be the most compatible as Cricket is owned by AT&T and uses the same cell towers.

Thank you, I found this particular one on ebay and sent message to seller to see if it will support 4G LTE on AT&T network.
LG G4 H815 H815T Hexa-Core 16MP 5.5'' 13MP 4G (FACTORY UNLOCKED) 32GB Phone

My current temp device is HTC Desire 510 and as per GSMArena it works on
LTE band 2(1900), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 17(700) - Cricket
And same GSMArena website lists LG G4 H815 with following LTE bands.
LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 17(700), 20(800), 28(700) - H815
So if I'm reading this correctly H815 should support 4G LTE on AT&T & Cricket Wireless - correct ? Please help me understand if I'm overlooking something here.

Using the H815 on cricket and its wonderful
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk

BTW, I used Cricket for about 8 months using a Verizon G2 and it worked very good. Was paying 2 lines for about $80 a month with only a few gb's each. For only $20 more I switched to T-Mobile who has Unlimited LTE for two lines for $100. Now I use up to 40gb's a month and am not capped at 8mbps that Cricket does. Just some FYI!

I got the H815 from eBay (tropical mobile) and it works fine with Cricket. I think they sell the H815T now (description has been modified) which has slightly different bands. AT&T primarily uses 4 and 17 for LTE which are common to both models; still, you should check which band is being used in your area.

Same here

The H815T does not have band 2, which some people here actually run on. The non-T H815 does have it. So be careful about which model you get. Last time I checked, the eBay guys I bought my H815 from are correctly listing both varieties separately.
Also, neither variant has AT&T's band 30, but that seems to be a rarity, so nothing to be worried about, unlike b2.

Could you please tell me about your plan on T-Mobile ? At present I'm paying $110 for 3 lines (including everything) on Cricket Wirless with 2 lines getting 5GB and one line getting 2GB data. Rest all in unlimited.

I know they have a plan (it's the one that I'm on) that has 2 lines with unlimited data (no throttling) and 5GB/month hotspot (throttles after limit hit) fro $100 + the monthly payments of the devices (unless you buy them outright). There's an additional fee for a third line, but I don't know what it is. We only need 2 lines. If you're interested in that, you'll have to hurry as the special ends very soon (don't know the exact date but do a google search, many android websites have reported on it).

2 lines $100 unlimited, unthrottled LTE (5gb hotspot), $40 each aditional smartphone, $10 for Tablet (5gb's). This is a kick ass deal. No prepaid service will give u unlimited LTE for $50.
Be sure u port ur numbers at time of activation as they don't port afterwards. Found out the hard way.
Hurry as deal ends soon.

I'm paying 108.08 for two lines including taxes (not including device payments or JUMP). Also, rumors are they are increasing the hotspot from 5GB to 7GB per month and throttling the hotspot after that.

[Q] Which model is best?

I read the wiki entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Note_II and there are the usual different models for each carrier and region of hte world. I have AT&T so my choices are obviously going to be either the model for AT&T or some international version that uses AT&Ts bands. Is there anything broken about the AT&T model? Any reason to consider some other model? I know some models don't have wirelsee charging and other lack the FM radio. So, which one is best?
I like the international versions . They seem to get all the attention on xda. They have many ROMs out there for the lte 7105 and it seem to get updates fast . Just my opinion

true opinion. but a few of the international ROMs have been ported to work with the ATT variant. I chose the ATT model because of warranty/LTE compatibility. i'm not sure which, if any, international variants have ATT LTE bands enabled. if some new feature/functionality is available on the international version, it will get ported to the ATT version at some point. just my 2 cents opinion.

Thank you both for your feedback.
What is LTE? Is it a band that enables faster upload/download? If I get an international one that does not have LTE will my speed suffer? Warranty isn't an issue as I'll be buying and paying full price and not getting it from AT&T (They think I still use a flip phone with unlimited data plan).

LTE provides much faster internet uploads/downloads. since i'm accustomed to seeing downloads speeds averaging 31 Mbps (uploads 20 Mbps), anything else would be much slower. three caveats: to get LTE speeds, you have to (1) be in a LTE supported market (2) use a phone with LTE radio bands compatible with ATT and (3) have your device provisioned - by ATT - for LTE speeds/access. you can keep your unlimited plan.
regarding warranty, consider who provides service should something happen with your phone. with ATT, if you have an issue within the first year (notwithstanding abuse) they'll swap with another (likely refurbished) device. that's my additional 2cents answer to your questions!
EDIT: Added a recent picture showing LTE upload speeds.

OK< thanks. That decides it then. I will get hte AT&T model. One quesiton though about #3 above. What do you mean that AT&T has to provision my device? They think I have a non-smart phone and I don't want thtem to know about my new phone since I am paying $15 a month for unlimited data (A plan they don't offer to smart phone users). On my existing phone I can get around 250kb per second speed so do you think my account is already 'provisioned' for high speed access?
Oh, I found out both the AT&T model and the international one lach the FM radio so that's one less concern I would have had about choosing the AT&T model.

i had trouble connecting to the internet and obtaining LTE speeds until they provisioned me for LTE (e.g., did something on their end). the other thing i forgot to mention is that you'll need a micro-sim card. if you had no need for LTE speeds, then i doubt you've been provisioned for it. and, if my math is correct, 30 Mbps (or 30,720 kbps) is more than 100 times faster than 250 kbps. i'll put it this way, when i tether my phone to my laptop (e.g., use my Note 2 to access the internet), it's faster than my Verizon FiOS wireless connection.

[Q] Moving S4 from Verizon to iwireless/t-mobile

Hi,
I am thinking about moving my Galaxy S4 and moto RAZR from Verizon wireless to iwireless (a t-mobile affiliate). I understand that I need to unlock my phone but I am unable to find out if I move it to iwireless if I will still have 4G data. The iwireless sales rep said that I will still have voice and 2.5G service but couldn't tell me if I would still have 4G.
I was looking at this table I found on a site explaining how to unlock the phone but I don't know enough about the subject to make an informed decision.
Samsung Galaxy S4
Can someone confirm whether or not my Verizon S4 or RAZR can be unlocked to work with the iwireless/t-mobile 4G network?

It seems as though your grasp of the subject is strong enough to know that it might work as you'd like - and it might not. You need to call back and ask to speak to a CSR that actually knows what bands their service works on so they can give you accurate information. That's kind of their job...
Also -
Verizon LTE operates on Band 13 while T-Mob operates on Band 17, both of which carry completely different spectrums; this means no LTE on either of your unlocked phones. There's a slim possibility that you will get intermittent 3G but the most likely scenario is that you will get talk, text and 2G / 2.5G only.
Band 17? My Verizon branded S4 is getting T-Mobile LTE. I'm fairly sure its on band 4.
T-mobile is band 4 which is 1700/2100 mhz. The Verizon s4 is not capable of 1700mhz. But if you are getting 4G it may be because your area is using 2100 mhz. I am specifically moving to iwireless and I was told they use the 1700 mhz band.

Yes, I think all Verizon LTE capable phones are unlocked.
The I545 (Verizon S4) can receive LTE on band 4. T-Mobile serves LTE on band 4. The coincidence works well.

My RAZR MAXX HD definitely wasn't SIM unlocked... For the life of me I couldn't get it to work when I moved to ATT from Verizon... Not even GSM would work.
I just need to get some clarification from you guys. Are your VZW phones bought in the US and being in the US on t-mobile's or iwireless's 4g network. Because after I made the first post I went to the phone unlocking place in my local mall and talked to there techs, they said that the VZW S4 will not get 4g. I have also been doing extensive searches online and keep finding half saying it will work and half saying it won't. I have a feeling that the ones that work are working outside of the US as I found posts saying as such.
I read some where that the razr you had to flash the radio FW to get GSM to work properly.

I got my vzw S4 off craigslist but 99% sure it was purchased in the USA. I'm on T-Mobile's $50/mo plan.
Verizon's LTE phones are sim unlocked due to an agreement with the FCC when vzw purchased some bandwidth.
I think there was an update around 03/2014 that enabled band 4 on the I545. Then had to make some apn changes and tell the modem to use gsm/lte on band 4.
The one quirk I have is it will say "no service" after a reboot and until I make or receive a voice call. Then I get the "T-Mobile" instead of "no service" and things work as they should.

The only options I have for the network mode on my s4 is
Global, LTE/CDMA, and GSM/UMTS. Can you post you settings?

I was just at iwireless today and tested my phone with their network and was unable to get it to work. iwireless is a t-mobile affiliate but they do not use 4G LTE in my area. Their system runs on a 3.8G 1700MHz which the VZW S4 does not have. I am told that they will be starting to switch all the 2G radios in the area to 4G LTE later this year, which should work with my VZW S4. So I am just going to have to wait till the end of the year and go back and test it again.

That phone was before VZW bought the band 4 spectrum and cut the deal with the FCC. All VZW LTE phones are SIM unlocked. Any AWS capable VZW phone is SIM unlocked and can use LTE on band 4. The S4 got it with an update last year.
I am probably going to do the $30 plan soon and plan to use my VZW S4. I am not going to port my number right away in case the service in my area sucks (doubtful, live in DFW in dense surburbia).
I went out off town this weekend and went to a t-mobile store and was able to get 4g service after adding the correct APN. But it is too bad that iwireless that is in my area does not use that band yet, they are staring to upgrade to that band later this year. Until then my s4 will only get edge service.

With the announcement of the T Mobile $100 2 line unlimited everything, I'm also interested in bringing my Verizon S4 MDK boot loader phone to T Mobile, but want to do my research first-- is it as simple as signing up for T Mobile and getting one of their SIMs and then-- would I be able to flash any of the ROMs in the S4 T Mobile Dev forum or is the T Mobile S4 a completely different device? Any caveats? Would I have to LokiDoki after the flash? Would I need to flash a T Mobile specific radio too (currently on i545vrufnk1)? Or is that all just overcomplicating things? Would i be able to just adjust the APNs on my current ROM after inserting a T Mobile SIM?

Quick reply to my post and for anyone else interested-- there's a post here that talks about using a 4.4.2 T-Mobile ROM by Fenny on the a Verizon S4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57453019 I've tried it and LTE works great, MMS works properly, phone calls work as well. Will the International Model work fine on AT&T?

I went in to Best Buy and pre-ordered the Note 4 on a 2 year contract. Since it'll most likely be locked down to hell, I'm considering selling it the second I buy it and ordering the international version to buying the TMO version.
Will I have any issues?
I bought the international model from GSM nation with confirmation from them that it would work on att. Nope. It does not have the 700 band and does not get LTE. Sucks. I will be getting the att model this week. My model is SM-N910U. No dice.
Thanks to everyone using different spectrum for LTE, the euro/international models almost never have functional LTE in the States. You should get 21mb HSPA+ which depending on your market may get to 2 to 7mb down on GSM 3G.
i believe this model SM-N910F works with at&t band 17.
Ah man. I guess I should just get the t-mobile version off contract :/
Just cancel your pre-order with BB. That is what I did and then I called TMO and ordered with them.

You're much better off getting the T-Mobile version. It's cheaper @ $750, readily available, and fully compatible. It even automatically adds the at&t apn when you put in the at&t SIM card.
I just ordered the AT&T model after having the international unlocked models of the S1, S2, S3, Note 1 and Note 2. All of them were only able to get HSPA+ for data, but they all worked fine otherwise. For that reason I have the AT&T model coming to experience LTE for the first time.
If I had known the T-Mobile version works on AT&T I would have gotten that since I am a fan of rooting. No dice for AT&T model yet, but I have high hopes someone will crack it soon.
My straight talk signal runs off AT&T....so i can use lte off the t-mobile device with no problems at all??

Which version for US market?

Hey everyone, as always i like to buy my phones direct from the manufacture if possible. I do this to avoid all the trivial crap like locked bootloaders, bloat etc. Im looking to buy a G4 that is "clean" without the garbage but can also support LTE in USA. Which model should we shoot for? I bought my Galaxy S6 from Samsung (SM-G920i) which i love since its "clean". Im going to be using it on AT&T in the US btw. Thank you.

Good question. I've read that with the G4 international versions, LTE won't work on US GSM carriers, even if the LTE band is available.
But I can't say I've seen a reasonable explanation why.
The one I got from PCMag in their contest was listed in the rules as LG G4 Global Version the model # is LG-H815.
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=7996&view=1&c=lg_g4_h815_lte-a_lg_p1 lists the frequencies and its a LOT.
For comparison here it is side by side with the T-mobile G3 my wife uses http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdacomparer&id1=6272&id2=7996&id3=8045&del_id=8045
I am using mine on T-Mobile with zero issue on 4g.
As for price and availability of this model, its anyone's guess. According to the rules on the contest I entered this phone was valued at $1000 and I had to give PCMag a W9 to claim my prize so they could report the device as income.
It came with very few pre-installed apps from LG.
If anyone has any questions, fire away!

Depending on the area of the US you live the H815 will give you LTE on quite a few bands in the AT&T market. In my area OC, CA band 17 is used for LTE quite a bit and I have a Korean version of the G3 which has no issues getting LTE. I have ordered the H815 which should work fine for me, here is a list of the LTE bands it supports
LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 17(700), 20(800), 28(700)

Did you ordered a leather back cover color? Not a bad price for $700.
I already enjoying this phone so much absolutely no lagging UX 4.0 is awesome, the camera will blow your mind away. The Quantum HD screen really fantastic only require min. brightness when watching video at dark compare with my G3. Simply love this phone. Can't wait to get it root and get some wireless charging cover.

Yes I ordered a Black leather cover and I am also getting a yellow and red cover. I have the G3 now, how does the screen compare to the G3 screen? I have read that it is not as bright. Do you get to keep the phone or do you have to return it?

ordered the covers from Ebay, just search LG G4 covers, they come from South Korea and take about a week to get here. I am hoping once the phones is released in US in the next two weeks BB would have them or the LG website and you might save on shipping

Hmm...this seems like a good deal since it includes the leather back and has world wide LTE bands. I preordered the dual sim version here in the Philippines but may cancel now and pick this one up instead. More LTE bands and slightly less expensive then my preorder. One perk ordering from LG here is it includes 32gb sd card, second battery and stand alone charger but I can always buy those separately. Most important are the multiple LTE bands since I travel to states twice a year.

Yes....LG did it right this time. When I received the H815 I thought it's H+ data connection in US as expected for International version but LTE is working. So [emoji106] Lucky Goldstar.

That is way I got the 815 so I could go to Europe and still have LTE at home and the phone is unlocked

What needs to be done when switching from VZW to TMO?

I currently have a rooted/unlocked G3 with the tethering hack on VZW and am in the process of switching to a TMO 4/150 unlimited plan. Other than swapping the sim do I need to do anything else like change to TMO firmware?
Depending on when the G5 is available it may be a moot point but I've searched and can't seem to find an answer to what I know is a very basic question.

I would NOT recommend flashing any D851 firmware to the phone. You should be able to enter T-Mobile's APN and be good. Also, the Verizon VS985 G3 supports LTE Band 4 (1700, 2100) which is what the T-Mobile D851 uses for LTE. So you might even get full data speeds.
You could also get the V10 now instead of waiting on the G5. That phone is a monster. Lol

Thanks, I was pretty sure that was the case about not trying to flash TMO specific FW.
The only possible problem may be the lack of band 12 in the G3 when I'm @ home but I'll have to wait until I do the switch to verify. As noted, I'm planning on moving the the G5 so that shouldn't be a long term problem unless my wife decides to keep her G3 as she hates changing things.
T-Mobile doesn't use band 12 even in their D851 G3. It's only capable of utilizing the following bands: 2(1900), 4(1700/2100), 7(2600), 17(700)
Band 4 is the main one used by T-Mobile for their devices.
