No root required and it doesn't lag anywhere near as bad as proxy based ad blockers!

The web browser on my Desire is slow and extremely slow when using secure sites like PayPal. I installed Opera but like to get the stock browser working as well.
Do I have to change some settings to get better performance ?
Thanks
Hello all, I am a Desire HD user for a year.
I am using Opera 10.1 beta which is the smoothest browser i have ever used.
I installed many browsers via market and i found that most of them are really
choppy, not as smooth as iPhone's safari even flash is disabled.(Or this problem can not be solved due to the hardware?)
So, I wonder if there are any browsers that would be better than Opera?
Thanks.
The reason the iPhone browser feels smoother is that as soon as your finger touches the screen all page rendering & element loading stops, whereas on Android it continues, hence the "choppy" feeling.

As for your actual question, I use CyanogenMod7 and the browser works normally, minor choppiness as per.
ive had many phones from windows mobile to android, and over the years the browser i continuously return to is opera mobile (which you cannot f***k with)
ive tried
dolphin
maxathon
stock
firefox
all the browsers suck bigtime compared to opera no matter what anyone says,
stick to opera mobile, it works well, its all in the rendering,
ive had alot of problems trying to log into certain sites with the above browsers, when i used opera no issues at all!
smooth browsers
I've tried loads of browsers for Android and I always come back to Opera, mini for speed or if u have slow internet and mobile for everyday browsing. Love it so much I'm using it for P.c aswell with the Opera link function keeps ur bookmarks synced over mobile and desktop. If u r on 10.1 beta I'd update if I were u there has probably been 8 or 9 updates since then a couple of them major ones. Current version is 11.5.3
I always use Opera too. I tried many as per this page.
For me Opera is superior because of its smoothness and pretty good speed.
If you are using ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) you could also try ICS Browser Plus from Beansoft, which is new.
From what I see, the stock browser (of Android 2.3 in HTC Desire HD) is pretty good -- it has decent speed, and it provides adequate "reflow" of text when you zoom a page.
Opera's speed is about the same, but the problem with Opera (at least the current version from Market) is that it always renders text formatted for "zoomed in" (as after double click) zoom level -- even if you zoom out, the columns width (in characters) remains the same, narrow. Which renders it less then usable IMHO . BTW, not sure why, I'm pretty sure I've see bundled versions of Opera on Windows Mobile, which rendered text with adequate reflow, I guess this is some marketing feature for them.
The rest of available browsers are just not very good from the performance standpoint. So with all the available choices, there is actually no good alternative to the stock one
Thank you guys, thanks for the information.
Hope that the stable ICS would release soon and bring our Desire HD to next level...

UPDATE AS OF 3/11/2013
=====================================================================================
So with much time passed and with me using AOSP 4.2.2 ROM's now, I needed to provide an update to this thread.
Chrome was my previous favorite under ICS, but now sucks (for the purpose of the torture test thread anyways).
I don't know what happened, but for the last few weeks, Chrome has not been able to display the torture-test GIF's webpage smoothly. So I set about looking for a new Browser.
Here are the new results.
UNACCEPTABLE:
Opera Mini
Quick ICS Browser
Skyfire
Lighting Browser
UC Browser (must not be compatible with 4.2.2 yet)
STUDDERING MOTION AND FAR FROM FLAWLESS:
One Browser
Angel Browser
Baidu Browser
Niesky
Maxthon
Naked Browser
Dolphin
Dolphin mini
Boat
Boat Mini
VERY GOOD PERFORMANCE:
Opera Beta
Opera Mobile
Firefox
I then opened Opera Beta, Opera Mobile and Firefox all at the same time so I could check their performance against each other, while also being able to display the images while the phone was being heavily used.
Opera Beta *started* out with the fastest performance. With Firefox second and Opera Mobile a distant third.
But after a few minutes, Opera Beta stopped playing the gifs at all.
Opera Mobile was "okay" but starting to studder just a tad.
Firefox on the other hand was still sitting there blazing through the GIF's without any trouble at all!!!
So, unless Firefox ends up having a horrid GUI, it is now my new favorite go-to Browser!

Edit. I just discovered FireFox Beta. Looks like it's pretty darn good also.

PREVIOUS/OLD POST BELOW:
=====================================================================================
This is my Android Browser "torture test". I click the link below and let all the gifs load up. I then do the same on my computer. Then I compare the results between the two. I watch to see how fast & smooth the gifs are when compared to how I see them on my fairly heavy duty home computer.
Oh yea, the link below is often NSFW!!!
edit. link removed due to not being SFW.
Though I made sure this particular page was PG13 at the worst.
Not a BS website. Actually a pretty cool one, if you're into Motorcycles.
And lots of funny GIF's on this page.
Anyways, tonight I tested a bunch of popular browsers. At least the ones that the Play store suggested as being most popular. And I'm really disappointed with how poorly the majority worked.
My phone:
AT&T Galaxy SIII
ROM - ARISTODEMOS AOSP Jelly Bean (I float around a lot)
Kernel - Ktoonsez Jelly Bean TW @ 2ghz Overclock
LTE @ ~18mbps & WiFi @ ~3mbps
And here are the browsers and "score" I gave each. Score is 1-4 on a scale of, uhh, 1-4 with 4 being "best".
VERY GOOD PERFORMANCE:
Chrome = 4
ACCEPTABLE PERFORMANCE:
UC Browser = 3
Opera = 3
UNACCEPTABLE PERFORMANCE:
Boat = 1
Maxthon = 1
Stock Jelly Bean = 1
SkyFire = 1
Dolphin = 1
Your own results may vary. These are just MY results. But I thought I'd share them with others who like to look at gifs and don't have time to do their own testing.
I had similar results with a slimmed down testing I did a few months ago of Dolphin & Stock Browser vs. Chrome on AOKP. Chrome blew them away back then also.
Updated for browsers running on 4.2.2 AOSP ROM (LiquidSmooth RC2).
can't tell what you used to test the site since it's been removed, but reading this made me try the firefox beta and i'm actually very impressed. It handles flash pretty well also which is a bonus in my book.
nevermind

It was a webpage loaded up with about 50 individual animated GIF's. I had to remove the link because of a couple nSFW GIF's.
If you are over 18 and want to check it out, just PM me for the URL.
I found that I liked Opera Mobile for the best GUI. But the lack of full-page viewing killed it for me.
I've been testing multiple browsers and when scrolling on all of them I notice they aren't as smooth as the default browser on CyanogenMod 10.1. I was thinking of using App2Rom to try migrating the browser to wherever system apps are kept. Chrome and Firefox didn't work after migrating them so I had to reinstall them.
With all of the Samsung apps removed I figure there is a lot of wasted space if apps can see performance benefits. If there is a performance gain with this is there a better way than using App2Rom to move them over? Do any of you know/can comment if there is a performance gain, if it's a bad idea, or any other reason why the browsers may not be as silky smooth?
Hello everyone,
I'm using H2OS Beta 7/8, the browsers I've tried is too laggy (chrome, Opera, cm, and some more), I have the same problem with all browsers.
I had the same lag with OOS as well, do you also have lag with browser?
I know it's not connection, as download speed is pretty fast.
So could you share your experience with browsers?
Which one do you use? Is it fast?
Suggest me a fast browser, please

On the Nexus 9, (which doesn't have enough resources out of the box,) I used Habit Browser as it was way less resource hungry than chrome. Still use it to this day on all my devices. I cant comment on speed as chrome is fine on my OP3 also.
