False, you can use the Verizon G4 on other GSM carriers. I popped in my T-Mobile SIM in, entered in the APN, and I had working data. The only downside is you get a SIM notification since it's not a Verizon SIM.

I had thought he meant bootloader. My bad

The Verizon G2 has unlocked GSM. Good to know the G4 does too.
Once we get root, you can remove the SIM notification.

I thought the Verizon G4 had band 2, but I can't pick up band 2 LTE on T-Mobile on 2G > LTE converted sites.

You can remove the "not a verizon sim" message by going into applications and disabling/stopping the "Activation Agent". The only thing is that you have to do it every time the phone restarts.

Verizon htc one global ready

Hi im getting the Htc One and iwas wondering if anybody knows if the verizon variant comes Sim unlocked as the other verizon Phones (xt912,Lg,etc.)

I'm pretty sure all new Verizon LTE phones are unlocked because that was an agreement made with the FCC during the 700MHz spectrum auction. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I called Verizon twice about this very thing since I'm about to go overseas. Both times they assured me that the SIM card was unlocked. Going to take my old phone just in case....

I don't think the Sim card is unlocked... Its the phone itself. You'd need to get a Sim over where you are going.

Apologies. I meant that the SIM card slot was carrier unlocked, not the SIM card itself. Naturally you would have to purchase a SIM at the destination.
So does anyone know fir certain if it is GSM unlocked?

Verizon 4G LTE devices are unlocked out of the box
One thing to note here in terms of software phone locks is that all Verizon 4G LTE smartphones come unlocked out of the box. The reason why is that the spectrum Verizon is using to build its 4G LTE network had restrictions put on it by the Federal Communications Commission, which required the company to allow "open access" to the network. So as part of this provision, Verizon has decided not to lock those devices. That said, its 3G devices are locked.
So what does this mean for the average consumer? Let's take the iPhone 5 as an example. It's a 4G LTE device. A Verizon version of this phone comes unlocked out of the box. There aren't special codes that need to be entered in order to use it on another carrier's network. But because of the spectrum differences I mentioned above, a Verizon iPhone 5 won't operate on AT&T's LTE network. It will operate on AT&T's 3G network, which is based on GSM. So this means you can use the Verizon iPhone on AT&T, but you won't get the fastest Internet speeds on it.
The same is true if you take the Verizon iPhone 5 to Europe. You can swap out the SIM card and put in another carrier's SIM card, but the device will operate only on a GSM-based 3G network. And it won't operate on a faster LTE network.
And even though the phone is unlocked and uses the same CDMA technology and some of the same radio frequency channels as Sprint, an unlocked iPhone 5 won't operate on Sprint.

[Q] Straight talk?

Has anyone used this phone with straight talk? do you need to unlock the phone or will their sim card work instantly?
I'm using my AT&T Optimus G Pro with Straight Talk. Works great. If it's a GSM phone you can use Straight Talk.

No. Their sim card will not work unless you have the phone network unlocked.

Yes mine is the AT&T version as well, did you need to unlock your phone? I have seen some saying you do and some saying you don't, but most people aren't on it it's just their thoughts. Since you are on, did you?
I didn't have to..that's the beauty of GSM phones. Most GSM doesn't necessarily have to be unlocked because most use the same frequencies. Also, I could use my Sim card on a T-Mobile phone, if it was GSM.

I bought mine already unlocked so I have had no issues whatsoever using Straight Talk. Love getting 4G for 45 a month.
Quick tip if you use straight talk all you need to order i straight talk att sim card. That gives you full 4g... If you use the straight talk t mobile sim you'll only get hspa +. If you have the t mobile sim then you'll need to unlock the phone and then set the phone up for T-Mobile network.
Add there is no need to unlock the phone.

I have the AT&T G Pro using Straight Talk. I had to network unlock mine. I verified this by putting the ST AT&T sim in before I unlocked it just to be sure and it did give me the "Invalid Sim" error. So this phone IS network locked. AT&T's provisioning is different than Straight Talks. So just because it's an AT&T phone and AT&T compatible sim doesn't necessarily mean it will just accept the sim without network unlocking.
I also have the AT&T G pro. ordered the at&t micro sim from ST and inserted and it worked without having to unlock the network lock. In fact on all of the AT&T branded phones i have used i have never ever had to unlock to use a ST sim card that used the at&t network.
In fact if you go to this link http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/shop/sims
it will ask you if your phone is t-mob or AT&T and as long as you get the right sim for your phone, you should not have to unlock it.
I did have to edit my apn and follow the instructions in the thread below to get mms working
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2761126
I didn't have to unlock my E980, as I used a AT&T compatible Straight Talk SIM. I get full LTE no troubles, but you have to fool with APNs to get MMS, as with most third-party carriers on other carrier's phones.

Cricket mobile

I am a little confused? Cricket can take your vzw phone and flash it to work on their network. What do they have or know that the devs at xda don't know?

The Verizon Note 4 is SIM unlocked. All it needs to work on Cricket is a Cricket SIM (and possibly adjusted APN settings for data and MMS). There's no flashing of any kind involved.
Um not mine, tried all carriers Sim cards the only one that worked is a old tmobile Sim from germany.

Then either something is wrong with the SIM cards you were using, the settings are off, or your device is defective. The Verizon Note 4 is SIM unlocked. There are plenty of threads on the forum where people talk about using it with AT&T, T-Mobile, and prepaid carriers.

cricket up and running on mine (vzw sm n910v) had to manually enter network apn to enable data , but phone worked upon sim insertion. It registered as an AT&T sim and I received an error message stating it wasn't a Verizon sim card but noone at cricket was needed to receive service.

Foxfi in verizon G4 with a different carrier or overseas?

Hi guys! I'm thinking about buying a g4 for my girlfriend and bring it to Mexico with me, I don't really care about root stuff but she does care about the wifi hotspot. I've read around here that foxfi app works for Verizon g4 even after the MM update .
So my question is if the Verizon G4 wifi hotspot with foxfi would work with a different carrier either in the us or overseas, has anyone tried to do that with a different carrier? Thank you!
Anyone ?
No it doesn't work. I have a Verizon LG G4 using a Telcel SIM card and data its ok (H+ or LTE), but the tethering is not active it keeps saying you need a verizon LTE SIM, even using Foxfi.
Me too, bad luck trying foxfi with Telcel sim.

Can I use a unlocked T-Mobile S8+ on VZW

I have a unlocked T-mobile S8+ and when I put my sim in the phone it doesnt register on the their network. I thought I read all the S8+ have the capability to work on all networks.
Thanks in advance
Have you tried flashing to the G955U1 firmware?
I haven't yet. I will try

Are you using already active sim card? just curious.
Yes it will. The US varient are all the same for every carrier so it should work fine.
After many attempts nothing worked it looked like the T-Mobile verison is missing the cdma bands to make calls

So you flashed to the 955U1 firmware & inserted a preactivated Verizon SIM card and it still didn't work? Did you domestic unlock the T-Mobile S8 first?

What color is yours? I use an Orchid Grey S8+ from verizon but I use my tmobile sim in it. Worked right off the bat without any APN changes. Maybe we could trade. I would rather have the tmo bloat that I could actually use rather than the vzw bloat.

Those unlocked at&t or tmobile phone won't work for Sprint or Verizon. Sprint and Verizon required the IMEI in their database.

I'm late to this thread, but what I did was make sure my S8+ (T-Mobile variant) was paid off and then I used the Device Unlock app. It did not work at first. Then, I inserted a Verizon SIM and rebooted the phone. I relaunched the Device Unlock app and selected the option for Permanent Unlock. It worked and then asked me to reboot the phone once more. Once I did that, it took me to a blue screen while it loaded the Verizon bands and apps and then rebooted one more time. It works flawlessly and even loaded the Verizon boot up screen.
From what it seems, all of the USA SM-G950/955 units are indeed capable of working with other networks and will load the appropriate firmware of that carrier but, at least with T-Mobile, the phone must be paid off first and then the Device Unlock app must be used. It is working great on Verizon as if it was sold to me by them.
