So with my Fire TV box, using Kodi and/or SPMC, I get Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS, as well as stereo via Optical cable to my old Pioneer Elite VSX-21.
While using Kodi or SPMC I can get DD5.1 and DTS, when watching Netflix, Amazon Instant video, or Plex, I get just stereo. (receive has the Pro Logic led lit). Adjusting the sound settings in the Fire TV's menu (Dolby Digital Plus Auto, DDP HDMI, etc) doesn't have an impact.
Is there anyway to fix that?

Just tried both Gotham 13.2 and Kodi (14.0 alpha 3) on my new Fire TV. but same result:
- Playing MKVs (720p, 1080p, x.264 with DTS/MA => work ok, passthrough is enabled
- AVI files and MP4 files with audio tracks in MP3 or AAC => video ok, but no audio
I have played with the audio settings (passthrough on or off etc), but no effect.
Has someone seen this before ? I can't imagine my configuration is very unique:
Fire TV with latest firmware, XBMC/Kodi sideloaded via ADB. FireTV connected to Onkyo TX-NR636.
Hi, I have a similar problem with my setup Fire TV>Onkyo TX NR 626. Everything works fine until I play a file with DTS or DTS HD MA audio in it. Once i play this file, I get no navigation sounds, no sound from files with AAC and MP3 audio. If I come out of XBMC, there is no sound in any other apps in the fire tv. Below is how I can fix it.
1. Restart fire tv.
2. switch input on the AV receiver to something else and switch back.
3. Disable "DTS Capable Receiver" in XBMC audio settings.
There definitely seems to be a bug with XBMC and Onkyo receiver. I have posted in xbmc forum about the issue and there are other users who have this problem. Google the below and you will find my xbmc post.
Android - No navigation sounds after DTS playback on Amazon Fire TV
PS: I guess we both are in touch on the xbmc forum. Didn't notice your user id earlier.
I'm running Kodi Alpha 4 without any issues (just a few incompatible addons). I've resolved a lot of audio/video issues by changing some setting on the tv itself. You can check and make sure that your tv settings are up to snuff.
I rooted my Fire TV box and am running a pre-rooted 51.1.6.3_user_516012020 firmware.
Installed Kodi 15.2 and connected it to my NAS drive. Most of my movie library consist of audio in Dolby Digital and DTS. Never had an issue playing my movies over my previous modified WDTV Live box while connected to my Yamaha RX-V467 audio receiver using HDMI from box to receiver and receiver to TV. The receiver supports Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD.
Running Kodi I can get Dolby Digital Plus with no issues, but playing any movies that have DTS makes my receiver display PCM with only 2 channels. If I manually switch the receiver to DTS decoding, I don’t get any sound, not even that white noise that most people mention. The receiver displays “No Signal”. I have enabled/disabled the pass-through with no luck. I have audio channels set to 2. In the Fire TV settings, I have tried both auto and the manual DD+ over HDMI. I also tried using an optical cable while making sure I changed the audio setting in the Fire TV to recognize this change, but it also didn’t make any difference.
I thought I read somewhere that the native apps on the Fire TV support DD+ and DTS, so I opened a trial account with Netflix, selected the tier with HD and Ultra HD. I mean it’s free for one month, why not select the best option they have. I noticed Netflix only states whether a movie is in 5.1 surround sound or stereo. It doesn’t show you the specific audio format. So I played a movie with 5.1 audio and my receiver told me it was DD+. Okay, so that’s good, but I already knew it played DD+ from using Kodi earlier. My next issue was finding a movie that uses DTS on Netflix. I googled and found a list of movies that have DTS. Yet every movie that I searched for on Netflix (at least 10) was not found. Does Netflix not offer movies that have DTS audio? If not, that is just sad because there are a bunch of good movies.
Anyone have any suggestions to test DTS audio from the home screen of the Fire TV, or better yet, how to resolve DTS “No Signal” when using Kodi?
Thank you!
I have an original FireTV box which is connected to my surround sound amp via an optical cable (the amp has no HDMI ports). In the sound setting I have enabled "Dolby Digital Over Optical".
For Prime Video, Netflix, and, UKTV it all works perfectly. However for BBC iPlayer, My5, Youtube, and, ITV Hub I get no sound through the amp. If I turn up the volume up on the TV the sound is there (but, obviously, I want it through my surround sound system). It was working fine before the new interface update. I also did a factory reset but it's still the same.
The FireTV is as factory, not rooted or anything.
Any ideas?

Same issue here. After the fire box software update the BBC iPlayer only play sound over HDMI, no sound over optical.
Did you managed to fix it?
Thanks

After further analysis I discovered that the Netflix app was only producing sound in Stereo (even though the content was DD 5.1). I think Prime Video was the only one generating DD 5.1 over the optical cable. The only way to fix it, as I can see it, is to buy a new AVR unfortunately. This is what I did, I replaced my old AVR with a new one that supports DD+ and, more importantly, has HDMI inputs on the back of it. I now get sound out of the BBC iPlayer app again (though only in stereo, as this is all that it supports) and DD+ 5.1 out of Prime Video and Netflix.
Probably not the news you wanted to hear.
Hello! I have my fire stick TV stick 4k connected directly to my hw-q70t 5.1.2 Soundbar. And it plays Dolby Atmos on Jack Ryan (at least it says so in the soundbar). But that's it. If a play a MKV file with trueHD traxky it will sound and it will say it has trueHD in Kodi, but the soundbar doesn't say it is Atmos. Can you be playing a trueHD track and not be playing ATMOS? I'm very confused... If I could receive any light from you that would be very much appreciated...maybe I have to root or something like that...
Netflix and prime stream a video in eac3 format where as old receiver support ac3 . and this app need hdmi connection for 5.1 audio. Step 1 enable arc and cec set digital audio out to auto step 2 you find no sound means multichannel audio stream then again disable arc in receiver. And play again and find 5.1 surround sound come through optical out. Note if not work then force stop the app. Do the same procedure especaily in Amazon netflix and hotstar. Thanks kumarswamy.
