Does 1080p video look better than 4k from the G4 camera? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

From my understanding, 4k video from the G4 has very low bitrate. I took two comparison videos on my phone, 1080p vs 4k, and it seems like the 1080p looks quite a bit better. Anyone know the bitrate comparisons between the two?
I'm wondering if it's wise to just keep my video settings set to record only 1080p and not even bother with 4k.

To me the 4k looks better then 1080p...

4k looks better than the 1080p, but the 4k still doesn't look great on my 4k monitor on my computer. The computer has lots of pixelization, and playback looks like borderline buffering. The computer has plenty of horsepower too.

[Q] FHD playback on QHD display & 4K recording length?

Hi I currently have a Sony Z2 and HTC One M8, thinking of upgrading the Z2 to something better like the G3 or new S5 advance but I only have two questions that G3 reviews did not answer and they are:
1. How is the 1080P playback on the QHD display of G3. "The reason is that most steaming sites do 1080p and the ones than do 1440p are either of sub par quality or of a processed type. A call to one of the streaming sites confirms the same they have two video sources FHD and UHD there are no QHD sources"
2. How long does the 4K recording last? "My Z2 records 4K only up till 5Min which is crap and a complete joke had I known this limitation would have chosen something else, the 1080p recording is worse to HTC One M8 performance that is a slap on its face"
1. that review uttered a total nonsense any screen can playback whatever kind of res a video have as long as the hardware and software are up for the job, it's more depending on the source file itself.

Its not that if G3 can playback 1080p its more of that how does 1080p look on a QHD screen. For example I have a Dell U2713HM with a 2560x1440 WQHD resolution but when I play a 1080p movie the quality looks less than on a Dell S2740L because the source and screen both are 1080p.
nonsense there is too many 720p contents on the web that still looks fine even on a QHD monitor...

video shooting: UHD vs FHD quality

Hello guys,
help me to sort something out.
I made a UHD video and FHD video. Both fps are 30. My PC monitor is 1920x1080.
How can it be, that UHD video quality is much much better then FHD? I say so, because my monitor is with FHD resolution (so it cannot reproduce UHD fully) and frame rate is 30 on both videos, so the quality should be the same, right?
Or I do understand something wrong here ?
Thanks!
An UHD downscaled to FHD video will probably appear sharper than a native FHD video when being displayed on an FHD monitor.
That's not very strange, imho.
Because FULL HD has only 17Mbps bitrate whereas 4K in Marshmallow has 46Mpbs, in Lollipop 30Mpbs.

Does we have any advantage from playing 2160p - 1440p videos on 1080p display

Firstly sorry for very basic question ;D.
I have seen some guys playing 4k (2160p) videos on youtube, but does this videos looks better then 2k (1080 p) videos, even if the display resolution is 2k only ?
I am asking because im watching from time to time vr videos, but the quality isn't really good with 2k videos.
No advantage. If this was true, then what was the need of making 4K display in the first place
@hp5942
but maybe if the video has black lines on the side and you zoom in then you would have an advantage with 4k ?

Maybe. But if you are not zooming, then 4K has no advantage on 1080p screen

I think this can help you https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.xd...watch-4k-youtube-videos-on-non-4k-phones/amp/
4k movies in lenovo zuk z2 plus
i have lenovo zuk z2 plus. i can play 4k uhd movies easily on this phone. also i can copy above 4gb files easily by connecting with the pc.
i downloaded movie Gravity (2013) UHD 4K Upscaled x264 DTS and watched on my phone. it plays the movies flawlessly. only con is the volume little low apart from that everything is perfect.

Question Video Quality

Did anyone do their testing on the Video settings and which option would give me the best video result? is 4k 60 worse in quality than 4k 30 but higher frames? how is the 8k compared to the best 4k option (Other than res?)

Question Custom Camera Mode - 6K

Question: Why can't the pixel 6 pro shoot in 5-6k? It can shoot 12.53MP and 4k is only 8.3 MP.
Thanks,
Probably due to the pixel-binning, which results in a quarter (IIRC) of the maximum resolution of the camera (~48-50 MegaPixel).
Well my question is why cant we hit 5k? 6K should be 16.6MP.. Pixel 6Pro is 12.53 so that should be a bit over 5K (5k is around 12.45MP)
Ok we talking about video capturing right?

Yes.
The phone is theoretically capable of recording 5K. I would love to see a camera mod to do it somehow.

Yea theoretically is capable even more sensor is not 12mpx its really 50mpx and after processing came 12mpx photos even from main camera sensor but......its about resolution/fps/ bitrate ...and all depends of cooling system and capabilities of processing of chip in phone and how wee know cooling is not what is good on pixel 6 pro
I'd love to know if any dev's could chime in.. afaik timelapse is definitely possible oat 5k.
this is likely because nearly no display that displays 5K, it doesn't make much sense to support a format that is barely used

Well I'd love to get more quality out of my video. Apple makes a 5k display, and for editing purposes 5k would be nice . I like to get some shots of nature sometimes. I just wanted to know if it was possible.

Yea timelapse is definetly capable of much higher resolutions ....and its good question becouse for now we know in future will only produce 8k tvs and 4k minimum monitors .....i think phone is capable of 1080p 480p slow mo why they dont use this who knows

That's not truth pixel count and quality was always much higher then actual displays like before decade was 16 and higher pxl Fotos and no digital monitors or tvs to show....some people have same argumenst s like you ...same with 1080p when come some people still telling wee dont needed lots of people looking on videos on tvs and most of them have only Hd tv so we dont needed right now ...what? I making memories and those memories i would like to have in best possible (reasonable ) quality what i can make with good format for future .........for example imy first tv vas plasma only 720p (in real was 768p ) but doesn't matter important is i was looking on 1080p movies and making 1080p videos l... And they look much more vetter because if you're looking on content like 1080p on 720p tvs you actually getting better quality and better looking image because its working like antialiasing or super resolution on AMD cards or whatever other metod they named and this metod ....its used in videogames for years for better image quality and its much more visible on video(moving picture ) then on just stable frame but its still visible and its make sence to only some quality like its doasant make sense looking on 8k on 1080p tv but its make sense watching on 4k picture on 1440p monitor or watching 1440p video on 1080p tv .....so 5k video on even 4k tv or monitor still make sense.

Exactly. I have been recording 4k video since Note 5 I believe.
Look up Motion Cam on GitHub. It allows you to shoot RAW files (stored in the DNG format) at the cameras full resolution.
You'll probably be limited in the frame rate and length you can record and you'll need something like Davinci Resolve, but I've messed with it and gotten good results.
