good

when will you guys learn? you don't need to "clean memory" on Android phones since about Gingerbread. "boosting RAM" can rather harm your performance and battery life instead of improving them. apps claiming to optimize/defrag/boost your memory are all snake oil.

I have tried emulators for NES, SNES, GBA, Genisis, and ScummVM on my wife's Cliq. They all run at pretty decent speed, GBA has some slowdown with sound on. ScummVM works well in WinMo too though...
The only app you need to install is Alchemy. Very fun. You start off with 4 elements, and combine them to make hundreds of new elements.
Earth + Water = Swamp, Air + Fire = Energy. Energy + Swamp = Life. Like + Fire = Fire Elemental... etc.

i test it yes,it's like multitask on mango
it resume the application where you was after changing apps(like games)
but the only issues they have it's the icons of the hub make a very long time to appear on home screen(not native hubs),the battery not ask more juicy than before
edit2: after my first shot i re-put the stock value in the register & reboot
i put the 0 value & reboot, all the systems is smooth now
lives tiles & icons appear fast than before & multitask work like a charm(i launch NFS,ASC,twin blades, etc) all apps responsive instantly
so i will wait for Nodo update
Someone needs to come out with a XAP that will change this registry value for those who dont know how to do it

One this is "when does the application really exit?", eh?

I just have tried it and it really works great.
Though I cannot believe that it wont drain the battery faster, because the apps still run in the background. So when you go into facebook and starts loading and you press the HomeButton and after a while you go back, it already has updated.
But still it's a great thing!
So what Microsoft actually adds with Mango, is a little gui for switching between the open tasks.. well that should come out faster
Sincerly,

APPS even with that tweak will have - STOP message on pause... you just cripple - APP memory dumping to flash ..
atm when phone paused .. all apps stoped . and their dump goes to flash ...after dumping ready os FREEING APP MEMORY ..
when phone no longer paused . DUMP WRITE IN MEMORY ( resuming )
on future updates ms added - trigger - if memory enogh to run app .. dumping mechanism will not work.. in future updates dumping will work only on long time idle apps .. and in case - OS IS OUT OF MEMORY
Its not too battery friendly...

Well i got mine and they
* do not get dumped to flash.
* does not "all apps stoped"
* does not write dump back in RAM. (they stay alive as a real app);
I tested all with real code and real debuggers.
Source (my own test..) found at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12221130#poststop
Why not put the actual instructions in the OP?
Using a registry editor, go to:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\TaskHost
and set "DehydrateOnPause" to 0 (defaults to 3).

DolfinX

The new DolfinX looks very good performing Standards like HTML 5 and passing the Acid 3 Test. All other Systems are worser even Android don't supports more than the new Dolfin, i can only say thank you samsung for the good work even in a pre alpha release.
Performance Tests are currently not possible, cause the Emulator slows down the browser, only the real on device test would bring results. Testing on browserbench brings me only an fatal error while getting results, ...
The Pictures are made with Greenshot, the System is the Emulator 2.0.0b1rc1
The best thing Microsofts Internet Explorer 9 is worser than a mobile Browser
Hey there! Thanks for sharing first of all. There is just one thing which is not clear to me ^^
What does the first picture show? Homescreen editor, theme changer or tab switcher of the browser?
Best regards.
it shows theme switcher
good to know that new dolfin is that much powerful
everything looks great but it seems again we can not switch the browser to full screen mode (like bada 1.0) or maybe I am wrong I hope
i have already posted it that the address bar is like in android dolphin.
sorry I have not read the other topic for some time. Can you do one more test browser (on exactly FlashLite 4) may have opened a website video "vbox7.com" (sorry it is in Bulgarian) who works with "Ajax" technology.
yes on next sdk release, currently the flashplugin in the browser don't works correctly, it is still a beta sdk. please be patient, aslo performance test are not possible, error messages are shown after testing, on the site.
but there are also not much bugs left in the newest sdk revision, it smells like an early public version.
http://static.bada.com/releasenotes/2.0.0b1.html
this means that it deosn't work as accpected, many errors, maybe html5 will also get more features than yet, this is currently the beta 1 emulator. This would be cool, but as an alpha it supports more features than the opponents.
The older sdk 1.2.1 has more issues than 2.0 i think they wonna make it, nearly without bugs.

DO you know if now it is possible to create folders on sd card with SDK 2.0 ..
and what about the sd card? is it still read only?
It's a good news. MAybe the public version will come first half of the July. I hope.
@badamental yes
and the sd card isn't read only if so you would never be able to save something on it, or even delete.

SD card and Phone Mem is read only Please refer http://static.bada.com/contents/doc.../basics_bada_programming/bada_file_system.htm
for read and write permissionon phone memory and SD card.
try to construct a file directly on /media/ or /storagecard/media/ in a app. your app will crash and give exception Access_violation (something like this). For Now there is a workaround to construct a file first in /Home/ folder and then move it to sd /Phone memory using content manager. And thats how we could save a file on SD card or on phone memory.
Any way i dont care about creating a file. Actually i cant find a workaround to create a folder on /Media/ or /Storagecard/Media. Thats why i am asking about write protection.
You have understood it wrong man, yes it is read only for direct io writting, but think about, how you can download with youtube downloader videos on sd card?
You should also know that there is an extra api for such things with that you can delete, add or remove, replace content like video audio and image.
This is only for developers important not for a normal user, you can add remove blablabal files from windows or on the device. Apps must get a special api that they can use such things.
Or rather the privilege which is double testet by samsung to not hurt any personal informations. Funny you are installing apps on the sd card, replacing pictures, deleting files, renaming it, and you think it is read only.
It is a little bit complicated but i have no time to explain you how to develop an app in bada http://static.bada.com/contents/doc...rk/classOsp_1_1Content_1_1ContentManager.html
the content privilege is needet for the whole namespace
http://static.bada.com/contents/docs/apis/bada-V1.0.0a3/framework/namespaceOsp_1_1Content.html
The restrictions you posted are related to apps, they must be better programmed to use such functions.
Do we know something about text reflow?
yes there is text wrapping as option in the other topic you can see a picture, should give you the answer i hope.
This is really great.
Thanks for posting the screens.
btw do you know if it also has a 3D carrousel when you want to switch between different website that you running in the background?

[Q] Is XDA a memory hog?

After a spirited browsing session here at XDA -- peaking at about 15 tabs and 50 pages -- I find that my browser will permanently increase its memory footprint by 100-300 MB. Even once I close all the XDA tabs, that memory is not freed up until I restart the browser.
I have observed this behavior for years, and always with various versions of my main browser: Opera. This site has many great features, and loads fast, but it would still be nice if this wasn't happening.
Have you guys observed the same heavy RAM usage and/or leak?
My system:
Win 7
i7 920
6 GB DDR3
Actually yes I just did with firefox. In the past I never had this problem actually but lately I only use chrome for xda because firefox always gets stuck.
Firefox is not as bad as ie. But when I load up any page from xda in ie, it is so intensive on my processor that it makes the cpu fan ramp up. Then when I scroll, it is scroll and wait for the page to actually scroll and stop before I can click on anything. It is that intensive on system resources.
well an i7 920 and 6gb of ram is a pretty beastly pc, you don't need a 8-core cpu and 16 gigs (like i have) to surf a forum
It is very normal. Because web is powerful today.
For example, Firefox use a lot of memory: 10 tabs = 250MB memory
Firefox 11 improved memory usage, but still high.
All browsers has the same issue.
Maybe it the time to upgrade your memory. Memory is very cheap today
I am NOT upgrading my pc because one website is not acting right
Obvious, but have you tried clearing cache & temp internet files? There must be a reason because I've got a 2.4 AMD (dual core) with 4GB RAM and I never have the problem. I use Chrome 100% of the time though, so can't vouch for any of the other browsers.
I'm afraid I can't help you with opera but you can try firefox with memoryfox addon. It actively frees memory blocks. Visit www browsermemory.com
One or two times I noticed the problem too but for me it wasn't such a problem to deal with it. I had a quick look on the source of the site and it looks okay, the only active contents are ajax and javascripts, rest is just text, static images & css. The hog might be one of the ajax/javascripts.
I also use Opera (still prefer Firefox though ) and according to the task manager: Memory usage = 16k (average) & Virtual memory = 151k (average) when browsing XDA alone (1 tab).

That's a mighty presumptuous statement. Regardless of if I'm browsing XDA or not, at any of the forums I frequent and if I have many tabs open eventually my Browser begins to Hog my memory, Such is the way the web is.
Do any of the people with the issue use ad-blockers? Ads are generally the culprit with things like this as the site has no (or little) control over what content they load. Also, having 50 flash files playing on separate tabs will definitely have an impact. As tigermess said, the site is mostly just text and images so it's next to nothing.
That would explain why I don't have the issue as I don't have ads turned on.

You are the one making the presumptuous statement. I don't use tabs. I usually have one site open at a time. In the rare instance I have more than one site open, it is in a separate browser session. And that is rare. I have deleted cache and temp . I don't run an ad blocker on my pc.
I am actually running on a fresh (but updated) restore of my hard drive from factory condition. I restored last week. It was doing it before and it's still acting the same way. Both in ie and ff. The only common thread is Eset smart security. I have not disabled to test that. I am leary of doing that here with all of the trash that loads with the ads here.
But when you are browsing fine, and you browse to this web site and your computer slows to a crawl, and the only thing open is this site, then that, sir, is not presumptuous!

Fair enough.
And not to sound like a jerk, but here are your options.
1) Deal with it
B) Don't come to XDA.
In all honesty I could see that you are experiencing problems, but XDA is built on vbulletin. Which while vbulletin scales pretty good to work with XDA, its still a crappy program. Then again the sheer amount of activity on XDA precludes us from using other Forum software, and makes our site run slow on some peoples set ups.
XDA is the site that uses less memory on my PC and i don't have a super machine.. unlike is a pc of the stone age..
I use chrome with adblock plus, my pc is a celeron D 360 with 768 mb of RAM..
What & where's the problem?? I recommend you use an ad blocker and/or another browser..
Flash isn't friendly with any cpu and ram..

iii) Discuss it. Maybe someone with some insight on the back-end of XDA will chime in with advice. Maybe they don't even know some people have a problem and they will be able to make a change on their side. Poor performance and/or ad blocking aren't in anyone's best interest.
Other vbulletin forums don't gobble memory for me. I think that XDA is unlike the average vbulletin forum.
My computer is a single core hyperthreading 3.21GHz <--- (basically a wannabe duo core) with 1gb ram. I use chrome, with adblocker and my browser NEVER lags or anything, even with MANY XDA pages open...

There in is the rub. XDA is a very large forum, we have a full time person, optimizing and maintaining our servers, as I'm sure you can imagine. SO I will hit him up and see if he says anything. But we have discussed this before, in the year or more have upgraded many of our servers to improve the speed.
So while I may have seemed like a jerk, its not because I don't care, its because we are constantly trying to improve the performance of XDA. However, with the numerous different computer setups and internet connections, not everyone is going to have a blazing fast experience, some of that it outwith our control.
Thank you. All we ask is to have your person look into it.
I will do what I can from my end. I don't think it is a vbulletin problem. That and server issues would only account for slow page loads. They wouldn't account for bringing a computer to its knees. When the page loads fully and I scroll my mouse, there is a 5-10 second lag before the page actually scrolls.
I like xda and I don't want to use ad blockers if that is the culprit as that it's how you survive and pay the bills. But there is some bad code somewhere.
I saw a few add blockers that will let you select what adds to disable. Maybe I can narrow it down some.
All we are asking is to look into and not a canned like it or leave it option.

It shows. For me, the XDA experience is great in all the most important ways: speed, features, and community. I guess complaining about memory usage is a bit of a nit pick =P

we need a store for the developed apps that can't be submitted to the windows store

I hope one of the developer can make an app that can deliver updates for the apps built for introp capabilities and the apps not available anymore in the windows store
Of course we need, let's ask Jay Freeman for help.
Yeah sure cause it's getting messy out there and you have to check all the threads to keep up with the developers works

@Rataplan, why do you need a special "store" just for the certain apps? Create a static web page with the short descriptions and tiles, links to the packages (but don't forget appropriate content type for the .xap, .appx & .appbundle extensions) looking good on the phone screen, host anywhere on the free anonymous http hosting and post link here - what's all

A reboot app is already in Windows Store - Power Options
Here are some of the reasons an alternative store might be good:
- Developers can reach a wider user base and get their work known, provide updates and receive feedback from users.
- User can easily find new apps and install them from a trusted source, receive updates in a simple way and request features.
But we only have four apps so far

Actually, that's a really good idea (and more realistic than building a store tbh).
If people want an app they can make a web wrapper of that, I guess?
Although I'm not sure if a web wrapper can update installed apps, which would be super convenient for something like this
it doesn't have to be a fully functional store and update the apps automatically but at least provide all the apps in one place and notify about updates so users download them and install them manually so if a web-rapper app can notify about the updates it'll be more then enough for me
@karaki93, I gave you an idea; don't ask but do it by yourself!
P.S. If you need some advises or consultations, many people here will be happy to help you. The only thing you need is a start working on project instead of posting requests
P.P.S. Very first advise: find a XML- or JSON-based HTML5 mobile site template (without SQL database), this will be a 50% of the project.
