[Q] Cannot copy item (USB) SOLVED - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

SOLVED
My device is working properly until this moment that when I connect it to my pc, it only reads the storage,I can access both internal and external, view images and whatsoever, but when I try to copy a file into it. it says " The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected" . I don't know what happened. I tried formatting/factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik, changed USB cable/port and I even flashed to stock rom. I reinstall the samsung drivers too but no luck. This happened after I flashed a custom rom (CM 12.1) but like I said, I flashed again to stock rom but nothing happened. I tried to plug in my Phone and it works properly.. any help?

Hi! I had this problem on my Tab S. No matter what I did it would say the same thing! So what I had to do was change my USB cable. Certain ones aren't as fast in which causes this error. Samsung stock cable or using a fast third party transfer cable solved my problem.
Another way is to disconnect my micro usb from my Tab S and stick it in my pc (since the micro SD came with an SD converter.) I would transfer my files over to my SD then disconnect it and stick it back in my Tab S. Those are my two solutions.

Hi, I figure it out now. I don't know what could be the exact problem but I tried to flash again CM12.1 and its gapps. USB problems are gone, its working normally now. Maybe you should try flashing a ROM too and see if it would fix the problem.

Great! Thanks for fixing it.
To edit the title, if you click EDIT on the top post, and then clock GO ADVANCED, you can then revise the thread title. Its not absolutely mandatory to mark it SOLVED, but its sometimes useful.

USB detection when connected to computer not working!(*POSSIBLY FIXED*)

- I think I found a fix and it was quite easy to be honest. All I did was reinstall HTC SYNC and my computer is recognizing my phone now. Only thing is, i'm pretty sure if you want to use adb you had to uninstall this.
- Another solution is to update the RADIO on your phone to the newest version. (CREDIT GOES TO HAZAKINS FOR FINDING THIS)
I successfully rooted 2.2 today with the new guide. The first rom I flashed was RevE and noticed that when I plugged in my usb, to my computer, the notification bar would show up with the option of mounting or charging and then disappear after a second. Not only that, the phone didn't charge at all while connected and the notification bar was clear and didn't tell me whether I was charging only, ect even though it usually does.
The only way I am able to access my SD card is strictly through recovery now by mounting the usb. Other than that, there is no other way for me to access my SD card. Let me be clear that YES I have tried more than one USB port and usb cable but still there has been no luck. Let me also add that it was working fine before rooting.
Also, I just flashed to CM R2 successfully and the same issue still exists. I'm not really sure what else to do.
One interesting thing, if this means anything, that I found, was that I saw the My HTC drivers in device manager only when I accessed my SD card through recovery, it never appeared when I tried to connect my phone to my computer outside of recovery.
So, I'm not really sure what else to do. I have rebooted both my phone and my computer and I am really leaning towards the fact that it may have to do with the My HTC drivers. The thing is though, add or remove programs doesn't show My HTC when my phone is connected to the homescreen. But, I did manage to uninstall it while in recovery mode and as soon as I went back to the homescreen the driver installed so fast that I couldn't stop it from installing.
So, I have no idea what to do
I just confirmed that I am not the only one with this issue in IRC. We both narrowed it down to the driver being the issue. I'm not sure how exactly I can delete it though because it only shows up for an instant and then disappears. It isn't even in add or remove programs.
When you connect your phone, try toggling the USB Debugging off and then back on. I had similar problem (not exactly the same) and this is what worked for me.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I actually had this exact same problem... all the way up until I tried a different usb port... so I guess I got lucky.
But the one port was working fine up until I put the new ROM on it. Then it stopped working. Then I had to use a different port. I was able to do that... But now after phone reboot and PC reboot, 1st usb port works fine.
I hope it starts working for you.
I did same thing having same problem, I even downloaded another rom with rom manager and installed it, still same problem. When I plug in my USB cord it will pop up for a second on the phone to ask my charge or drive the goes away before i can do anything.

basically sums up my issue.
OK Here is the fix, buy a mini sdcard reader copy the pc36img file to your sdcard using this reader, install back in phone boot into recovery and let it update, then startover root process, this worked for me, I haven't update to 2.2 yet, but I got usb back

My fix was to get rid of the extension USB cable extender I was using. Apparently the signal degrades too much across it. I tried 3 different extender cables too.

I did that, twice, and the same issue is occurring.
Also having the same problem after the 2.2 down grade.
Same problem
I can't mount my SDcard either. I followed the new video tutorial to get root on phones that came with 2.2. I think something went wrong when i got that out of memory write error. I have tried two different computers and all their usb spots. I have not been able to mount sd card yet. It does charge however. Any ideas as what to do?? Oddly enough i was able to get Amon-ra recovery flashed so doesn't that mean i have full root??
Seems like a good amount of people are having this issue. If someone comes across a fix please share!!!
Try uninstalling My HTC and HTC Installer Drivers (I forgot the exact name) and then reinstalling HTC SYNC.
Got mine to work
on some other forum someone tried flashing the radios to the newest version and fixed the problem. I tried this as well and came back here to let you guys know that it worked for me also.
here is a link to the radio files.

Easy fix: Uninstall the HTC software, then reinstall it.
This should reinstall the driver for your EVO.
the HTC software uninstall and reinstall didnt work for me. Wish it would have.

My phone isnt recognized by my computer anymore

Hello,
i've got a problem like the title says. Everytime i connect my phone to the computer via usb, i get the message the device wasnt recognized by the computer. i tried everything i know, another usbport. etc. i want to install a new radio, but without connecting to the computer it isnt possible, because i dont have the usb debugging active.
i hope someone has an idea what i can do. i have rcmix 6.1.0.1 installed.
Are you using Windoze?
If you are unfortunate enough to be doing so then you might need to reinstall HTC Sync program (sometimes it works better if you completely uninstall it first including manually removing any left over folders and files in the application data folder.
thanks for the quick answer.
i tried it, but it didnt help. where is this application data folder? do you mean on the computer? i found after uninstalling no more folders from htc.
and yes i use windows home premium 64bit.
got another idea? now it says also the device does not function properly. i hope that nothing on the device is broken.

yes he is talking about your computer... if in the "program files" you hasn´t anythink about HTC SYNC,, ALL IS OK...
but enssure that in the configuration panel-system-dispositive administrator you hasn´t any drive installed for your android device... if you have installed it, erase or uninstall it before re-install htc sync or the htc drivers....then you can re-install and reboot windoux...
and hey buddy!I recommend to you to consider to pass to linux, you will not have this type of mistakes... LOL
UBUNTU is great!
I'm afraid I don't know much about Windoze but memory serving appication data is a hidden folder so you will need to change it to view them and is in the Documents and Settings / [Your username] directory.
Device not function is just a default Windoze error when it can't install something, ignore it, your phone is fine.
If you have reinstalled HTC Sync, try a USB port on the opposite side of the PC. So if you trying ones next to each other on the front, try ones on the back (they use different headers on the motherboard).
If that doesn't work then I'm afraid I probably won't be of much more use, sorry.

I've got the same problem with 2 different PCs, one with Win7 64-bit, the other with Win XP PRO.
Other devices work fine with the same USB ports, so i doubt it's windows or the PC...

you can´t flash any radio if your phone is not recognized
well.. Let's continue with the problem in question...
1.At some time could you have connected it?with the stock rom maybe?
2.have you tried to swich on mass storage usb mode?what´s the result?
3.when you tries to swich the phone for flash some radio you enables "usb debug"
and "only chargue"?
its a weird problem
Hey man, I've had the same problem with my old Desire (normal). Which was actually broken.. Went back to the store twice and it was sent to htc twice. But that one wasn't rooted tho. But in the end, the sensors were broken & something inside the phone that didn't recon the pc. But also try a full wipe, which helped temporarily for me.
1. yes i functioned, not only with stock rom, but also with the next few custom roms. but then 2 weeks ago the problem occured and i dont know why. before i used custom roms for months.
2. it also doesnt recognize the mass storage anymore, i dont see the memorycard as a storage device in explorer.
3. yes i turned usb debugging on and connected charging only, i flashed radios before. but the problem with the actual is, that my signalstrength is weak and so i wanted to flash the recommended for this rom, and so i recognized there is something wrong, cause my problem here occured.
normally i sync with myphoneexplorer so i didnt realize that mass storage didnt function anymore.
and because earlier i got no problems, i think more and more, that something on the phone went wrong.
maybe it helps if i go back to stockrom and undo all changes i made, to start all over again?
again thanks mate for your effort to help me out

you´re welcome companion
i reded in a spanish forum ( www.htcmania.es ) about your problem and there´s people that had the same problem with a S.GALAXY S & desire HD...
someone was solved it fullwiping and formating (in the paragraph of mounts & storage into CWM) and flashing another ROM... then they formatted their sd card with a card reader OF THE PC... later they was formatted the sd card from the pc and the problem was disapeared successfully...
BUT if it persists i think that you should (mi suggestion) send your machine to the thecnical service....
ok, will try this today evening when i'm home. if this doesnt work i will reset it in the orginial state and send it to the technical support. i will leave a comment if i was successful, perhaps this will help others with the same problem.

SGN won't mount

After solving this problem I got a new one. My SGN won't mount even though I have USB debugging on. Windows both 64bit and 32bit won't recognize it. I try to install/reinstall the drivers but I can't since the phone won't mount. I haven't found any similar problems to this for SGN. Any suggestions/directions?
Thanks in advance.
p.s. I started a new thread since this is a different problem and probably not connected to the previous. I hope that's ok.

Just starting with the basics here. But have you tried a different USB port? If it's a desktop, the ones in the back (directly connected to the motherboard) are usually your best bet.
Second, are you using the stock cable? I've had problems with a few phones I've worked on that didn't like communicating with non factory cable.

I have tested every usb port both in my PC and laptop. I have used two different cables and I tried both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu). The cables are fine, my HTC Desire connects just fine. The phones charges but not connecting and this happened an hour ago after solving the previous problem I mentioned it the first post. So I'm 99% sure that the problem is about the device, not the PC/Laptop.
Read the connected thread to get the history of what happened. After returning to stock ICS I got the message for the JB update. Updated and now the phone works fine except the USB debugging and the fact that I don't have CWM atm. I can't install it either because I need to mount the phone. :/
Thanks for the quick reply though.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that the device when connected does nothing, doesn't matter if I have USB debugging on or off.

No problem.
I was unable to mount with my Razr after I factory wiped to sell it a few weeks back. I wanted to make sure my SD ext had been wiped with the reset, but it wouldn't mount. Performed another factory reset and that solved the problem. That was with stock OTA ICS though.
However, I'm not sure that would help you much in this case since it looks like you did a clean install.

I've been having some trouble with this too. My phone does connect and "mount" (that's not exactly what happens, since it uses MTP rather than USB Mass Storage), but it always takes a while. The phone device shows up immediately, but the actual storage (shown under the phone device) always takes a minute or so to show up. It works just fine after that, but it's still pretty annoying to have to wait. I don't think I had this behavior before JB.

Oh, you're right! Just checked to make sure, and that's exactly what's going on. The internal storage shows up the second I unlock the phone, and if it's already unlocked when I connect it the storage shows up immediately. Guess I've always unlocked the phone after a while when it hasn't seemed to be working in the past, to check that it's indeed connected using MTP, but just haven't realized that unlocking it is what makes it show up. But that actually makes perfect sense, of course - you wouldn't want anyone to be able to access the files on a locked phone by just connecting it to a computer.

+1. Fast Charge could be enabled by your kernel. If you use the Franco update app or Trinity kernel control you should check that.

[Q] Options For Connecting To PC Are Missing

Device and Software: HTC Inspire 4g, JellyTime r29(previously Android Revolution HD 6.3.1)
Problem:
Cannot choose how to connect to PC(no usb options appear on the phone), the phone starts charging as soon as I plug it in.
Possible Cause:
I connected my phone to a USB port on a car stereo and my phone and the stereo kept flipping back and forth between screens. I disconnected the phone immediately, but the USB connected icon was still in my notification bar. I restarted the phone and everything seemed fine until I tried to plug my phone in 3 days ago.
Things I've Tried Already:
-Restarting the phone
-Pulling the battery
-Trying different USB Ports
-Trying different cables
-Trying different PCs
-Trying USB Debugging both on and off
-Trying fastboot on and off
-Trying an "auto-mount" app(Multi-Mount SD)
-Trying "USB Mass Storage" App for Jelly Bean
-Setting Disk Drive mode as default and turning the "Ask Me" option on and off
-Reflashing the ROM (followed these directions for flashing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257731)
-Flashing the USB fix found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24198708&postcount=90
-Flashing a new ROM
-Searching for a solution(derp).

I was thinking about it, but this one has been working fine for months so It seems unlikely to me that that's the cause, especially when i haven't come across anyone running the same ROM with the same problem.
I'll still think about it, I dunno what ROM I'd switch to though. I liked CyanogenMod 7 but that one wouldn't run videos correctly for some reason :\

Yup. I just tried using USB Mass Storage app for JB, and that doesn't work either, although apparently the app does know that the USB is plugged in.
Most likely a port problem on your device. Go to a repair shop and see how much they charge

Well that sucks. I did get it to come up once by flashing a rooted stock rom, but when I selected disk drive nothing showed up on my PC, and when I disconnected it and reconnected it the icon wouldn't show up anymore XP

Try going to a fully stock state (S-ON, stock no root) and see if it helps. If not, definitely a port problem.
When you fall, don't expect anyone to help. Expect the floor
How do you do that without being able to connect to the PC?
Flash an RUU. I'll ask someone from the Ace Think Tank to help you, they're the best
If I find a link to an RUU ill post it. Where you from in the world?

I found this one(the bottom one), but it says I have to be connected to a PC to get it to work. Also, I'm from America.
First flash a different rom see if the same issue happens in that rom. You can also boot into recovery and try mounting the sd card before flashing a ruu. You may also want to reinstall the drivers for your phone (the drivers on your pc).

I've reinstalled the drivers that come with the Advanced Ace Hack Kit multiple times. Do you think I should I uninstall them and use the stock drivers?

Yeah, sorry about that. I skimmed through the post. After submitting the reply I saw that you already tried a different rom. You could give that a shot, installing htc sync. Have you tried the sd card on a different phone, or connected directly to the computer or a different sd card on your phone? Besides this I'm out of ideas.

Yup, the SD card works on my old Samsung Rant. I'll try installing the stock drivers, thanks for trying to help.
Ahh Tei has joined the party
I'm still sticking with a port replacement, it's the last thing that's left (as far as I can think of)

[Q] Att S3 Wont Connect to Computer

I currently rooted using the latest version of the Sons of Android ROM. Last night I made a back-up of it and flashed the Synergy ROM to test it for a friend. When I restored my back-up, I could no longer connect to the computer. I tried to reinstall the drivers through Kies and also direct from Samsung. The phone charges when connect to the USB port, but does not connect. I have tried two computer so I think it is the phone.
I search the forums and didnt find anything that help.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you!

I can not find any fast charge setting. I am starting to worry that I might have damaged the phone. I hope I just need to re-flash a driver or something.
Thank you!
make sure you're using the factory cable for the device.
try another USB port, preferably a port directly connected to the computers motherboard.
delete the current USB drivers for your phone on the computer. reboot it. in task manager, stop any kies background processes. reinstall drivers. reboot and see if that takes.

Did you make a nandroid of the previous rom ? Flash back to that . Flashing any rom made for the NA version of the Galaxy s3 will NOT brick your phone. NO physical damage will happen in any way.
Yes check the cord to make sure its not that....samsung phones are picky....even with the same cord.
Fast charge is usually in the kernel settings menu. It will be something you would had to enable, I've never seen it come enabled on a rom. What kernel are you on ? I don't think you see that setting on TW based rom's anyway ( I assume you are on SoA right now?)
Have you tried to do a complete wipe and flash another rom ?

I have a nandroid of my stock (after rooted) ROM, but it is on my computer now, not on the phone so I cant access it. I also had a nandroid of Sons of Android that was connecting just fine before I flashed Synergy ROM. I restored the Sons of Android ROM (nandroid) that was still on my external SD card and that didnt fix it.
I just did a complete wipe (Cache, Davlik Cache, System, Factory Reset, and Internal Memory), then installed the Wicked ROM with the stock kernel. It still doesnt work.
I tried two different cord on two different computers with no luck.
Thank you!
Is your usb debugging enabled?

USB Debugging is currently enabled, but I have tried it both ways.
I also am noticing my data connection is really, really slow, much slower than normal. I looked under the Synergy ROM and there was some talk of needing to reflash modem and bluetooth when reverting to a stock kernel. Could this be the problem?
Thanks!
You could try mobile Odin and flash the rooted stock that way... Its a shot
You have to use a .tar file though

Can you you give me some more info on Mobile Odin? I have never heard of it.
Last night I flashed the KT747 kernel because it has updated USB drivers, but it still didnt work.
I still have to believe that something went wrong when flashing the other night because that is when it stop work, but I am starting to think it is a hardware issue. It is very wierd!
Thank you!
Do you get any error when plugging it? I had a similar issue last week until I updated Windows.

Nope, no error message. It just doesnt reconize it is there. I have tried three computers (Windows 7 - 64 Bit & (2) XP 32 Bit) and three different cords.
This sucks! Now I am hearting it from all the iPhone users.
Thanks!

Try this, same thing was happening to me on a rooted stock rom. The steps listed here helped me reconnect phone to PC.

I hope we are getting closer!
When is use the *#7284#, I get the UART section that is on PDA and I cant change it.
Under the USB section I have button that says "Qualcomm USB Settings" with a whole punch of options:
MTP
MTP + ADB
PTP
PTO + ADB
RNIS + DM + MODEM
RMNET + DM + MODEM
DM + MODEM + ADB
Should I use one of these settings?
Thank you!

You should have two options, MODEM and PDA. Mine is set to MODEM.
Still no luck! Very Frustrating!
I used Mobile Odin to flash back completely to stock, and the usb still would not connect. I do not know what else to do. I will have to remove the SD Card and use a card reader for now. I can flash back to stock when if I want to take it in and get it fixed or replaced.
