[Q] Updating to 4.4.x from 4.1.2 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi everybody! Hope you'll bear with my noobish questions, but can anyone give me a rough guide on how to update a Galaxy Nexus I9250 (international ver.) to 4.4.x from 4.1.2?
I know the basic procedures like rooting, recovery installation and flashing (from using other phones) but this is my first time with a Galaxy Nexus. I'm sure I can pretty much handle a straightforward flashing of 4.4.x ROMs found here on XDA, but I'm not sure if I can flash directly from 4.1.2 (that is after rooting and TWRP/CWM installation). My Optimus G required an increased partition size to be able to flash 4.4.x ROMs and I'm not sure if that still applies to the Gnexus or if I can flash 4.4.x directly on top of 4.1.2 or do I have to go through a few loops to get it?
So can anyone point me in the right direction? Just a simple 1...2...3... guide with general instructions would do.
Hope somebody can help me out. thanks!

Nah man all you need to do is flash a custom recovery image snd then flash the Superuser.zip. After you do that put the ROM you want somewhere on your "SD card" and flash it. I would recommend ShinyROM for a stock-like experience on 4.4.4

URGENT! from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 or 4.3

Ok so I'm curious of why I'm not able to update from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 or 4.3. Any time I try to update, it tells me that I'm already up to date. Now I'm wanting the new CyanogenMod, I'm craving it...
When installing gapps is it a MUST to use gapps for 4.1.1 or can I use the ones from 4.2.2? I use Clock Work Recovery Premium but it's not installing google apps with it. It kind of erks me in a way...
So I'm at a complete loss... is it possible to get 4.2 or am I stuck with 4.1?
I'm running a SGH-I747.
Please hit me up asap!

Ok...you are not ready to do what you are asking. Are you even rooted? If you have no idea then you need to stop because you are not even close to being ready to install custom roms. You need to do some extensive reading. Everything about installing custom roms has been covered beyond extensively on this forum and many others. XDA is not designed to hand you the answers on some quick and easy to use instructions and for good reason. You need to know what you are doing and to do that you need to search and read...a lot. If you have a specific problem that has not been addressed in these forums then we will try to help you but don't expect a step by step walkthrough to your post here.

Oh boy.... where can I start... Welcome!! Now, The reason why you can't update to 4.1.1 to 4.3 is because currently, 4.1.1 is the latest update on your phone. But you should be able to update to 4.1.2... I am guessing you are using an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3.
In order to get 4.2.2 (or later 4.3), your phone has to be rooted and you need to have a custom recovery (ClockworkMod or TWRP). Rooting basically enables root directories so that you can modify your phone.
Here is a place to get you started.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Keep in mind that rooting your phone WILL VOID your phone's warranty.
And take a look at this to understand more about rooting or custom recovery:

OK...Now for me not to sound totally like an @$$. Welcome!!! These are definitely some of the best places to start but please do not let it be the only ones you look at. Before you plunge in to root and install custom roms please read peoples experiences and issues they have had throughout the various threads. This will aid you in resolving any problems you may have during the processes you are trying and helps you get a better understanding of your phone. Please make sure that prior to trying to root, you look up information about losing and restoring of your IMEI and tripping your flash counter. As stated above, rooting will VOID your warranty so this is done at your own risk. If you follow instructions closely you should not have any major issues.
I'm sorry gentlemen, this was typed so quick I may have sounded ignorant to the "rooting world".
I know how to successfully root and install custom roms, but my question was so distorted and didn't make sense because I had just got off a 17 hour shift.
I am currently running Cyanogenmod 10 on my SGH-I747, with 4.1.1 gapps. I was having an issue installing Cyanogenmod 10.1 because my phone was 4.1.1.(why it wouldn't work) I was trying to question the fact of, is it possible to upgrade to a 4.2.2 rom and keep the latest version of Cyanogenmod?
Just hearing rumors about a 4.2.2 ROM excites me, but it being a ROM in its self, how can I run Cyanogenmod with it?
I love the feel of mod but if 4.2.2 is better, flexible and faster... I would love to have it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm still a little confused as to what you are asking. There are several versions of Cyanogenmod. CM 10.0 is a 4.1.2 ROM. CM 10.1.2 is a 4.2.2 ROM.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say. You can't install CyanogenMod 10.1 at all? What does the error say exactly? Please be a bit more clear so I can help you out
Are you installing the wrong gapps version? If you are flashing Cm10.1 (4.2.2), you need to flash gapps 4.2.2, not gapps 4.1.1.

Only flash Samsung 4.2.2 Jellybean based custom roms for best results (especially for new users)
Your post here is in the wrong forum for the Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 phone.
The correct i9505 forum is located at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2166
and there you will find all kinds of roms which you can flash after your phone is rooted.
Rooting your phone is the first thing you have to do if you want to flash any roms.
Before going to the i9505 rom forum it's best to go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803
so you can root your phone. Before flashing any roms your phone needs to be rooted.
You will find everything you need including step by step rooting instructions in the link above.
Good luck!

[Q] Simple KitKat 4.4 help requested

Hello there! Im here with a request if someone can help with unlocking, rooting, clockwork mod and custom rom stuff.
Im using Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM) Maguro running on the lastest android 4.3 and since 4.4 is out from 2 weeks or so i really wanna get it on my phone even when Google wont update our gnexus with their latest os. I know the current state of the KitKat 4.4 AOSP versions is not 100% stable and mainly those gfx issues when rotating and stuff but ill be okay.
I know there are alot of guides out there but all i need is a simplified one with intel from where to start to where to end it.
There are many stuff on the internet ive already searched but somehow i dont do it because of all the info inside it.
I know to read and before my galaxy nexus i had the Sony X8 using custom rom GDX+ and it worked well everything was easy. But with my nexus now i think there are more things to do now.
All im asking is the easiest way to get it ready to flash the package and the GAPPS. (i already picked the one from here and i have the gapps on my pc) Now i need info on how to unlock and everything with clockworkmod and backup my current os.
Thanks in advance!
No offense, but if you can't follow the guides in here on how too unlock/custom recovery/root then no one in the world can.
The methods showed here are simplest as it gets!!
As a last alternative, try the GNEX TOOLKIT V11.1.0

Hi I second this. I would also like a stable, stock, deodexed, rooted and busyboxed kitkat rom for my gsm gnexus with instructions on flashing and installing gapps. Any advice is much appreciated.

Hey ADDOriN, what's up?
First of all, I found the same problem as you... I spent some hours trying to understand the whole process and honestly didn't reach my goal... The tutorial pointed out by the friend t1.8matt is great and easy, but if you don't feel confartable yet, you can try to follow the steps on youtube video called "How To Root Android 4.3 On the galaxy nexus" made by Manley (sorry, but as a noob, I can't post the link)
Some considerations about:
- the tutorial uses CWM but depending on the version of 4.4, you should use TWRP... The process to apply the image file is the same, differing only in root step
- if your bootloader is locked, in the moment you unlock it, all your data will be erased, so a backup is highly recommended
The GNex Toolkit 11.1.0 quoted by the friend wysefreakz is easier than made everything by hand, but honestly, I didn't find an information if it is or isn't compatible with 4.3 version, so I chose to the "hand-made" method.
Just to say, I used custom firmwares on my old Defy and made the same for a Galaxy S, but I found some doubts to gnexus (even had converted it from yakjuvs to yakju in the past)
I hope I can help you
I would not use a toolkit, as pointed out by many experienced users, they can do more harm than good. Not always the case but it is possible. I you get the android SDK setup on your computer, its actually not hard using adb and fastboot once you learn the commands. There are plenty of tutorials out there to help you with getting it setup and learning about adb and fastboot.
@leocasarin, @t1.8matt, @wisefreakz Thank you guys!
Actually there is no problem for me is to follow slowly the tutorials here and there. I made this thread to ask if there is something i didnt found my rolling on the forums or the internet as general. @t1.8matt yes the tutorial you give me is maybe the one ill follow. @leocasarin i will follow the ideas you said to me and im really thankful.
NINJA EDIT: I just used the video tutorial posted from @leocasarin and i completed everything and i now have KitKat 4.4! KUDOS FOR YOU MATE <3

Root: Newbie's questions about upgrading & updating

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie to the community of everything rooting and post rooting. I have recently rooted my N7 2013 running 4.2.2 and flashed TWRP recovery/SuperUser by Chainfire/AOSP PA 4Beta ROM.
While I now understands how to update the ROM and how to get out of a bootloop and other similar rooting circumstances, I need help understanding the procedures involved in the below scenario :-
Should Android get an incremental or a major update,
1. Should I first update the Stock ROM followed by reflashing the custom ROM or just wait for the custom ROM to release their compatible update?
2. Should the Superuser have an update, that does have to be updated from Play Store or the update needs to be flashed? Also, does TWRP needs to be updated if there's an update because I have heard that some ROMs are compatible with recoveries from a specific versions? Is this true?
3. Is updating radios really necessary? Will updating the radios cause it to malfunction? What is the procedure if this needs to be done?
4. What do I do if I wish to chuck the custom ROM and return to stock ROM or what is called un-rooting?
If there's something I missed out on asking but needs to be done, please point me in that direction as well!
Thanks
Regards
Karthik

[Q] Install Cyanogemod on GT-I8160L

Hello everyone.
I want to install cyanogenmod on my device, I am aware that there is not official rom for my device but there is an unofficial rom.
I did a research on the web and for what I understand there are some problem with my device because it is de latin-american version, I found a method too were I have to copy the "tee" folder from my device before installation and then paste it after the installation(that is supose to solve the 3g signal).
I am a complete begginer in custom roms, I have never installed one in my life. I have a lot of question: I need to have kitkat in my device to install the latest version of cyanogenmod? (my instincts says no but for what I have read I am not so sure) where can I go for a tutorial of installing roms? this rom (cyanogenmod) can work on my device?
The other alternative I have is slim bean, a jelly bean rom based on cyanogenmod(I even have found a tutorial in youtube that explain the installation and seems easy) but the link to download the rom is dead and there is a version specific for the latin american version.
by the way the latin american version is the one with a L at the end(gt-i8160L)
thanks
sorry if my english is bad.

As my device is a I8160, I'll answer the general questions.
The firmware that you need in your device would be a stock Jellybean firmware in order to install CM 10.1, 10.2 or 11 or any KitKat based ROMs.
As for the tutorial for flashing ROMs, this excellent guide by kyrillos13 might be able to help you (although it is meant for I8160..):
