Hello, guys.
Knock code is not working on my G4...
I need to turn on the screen to use the code...
I have to make some configuration?
Thx.
This happens to me sometimes to, it works with the screen off sometimes, but most of the time I have to turn the screen on. Usually use double-tap to wake when that happens. Probably going to get better functionality with an update hopefully.
Happen to me too... Never had this problem on G3

i tought im the only one experiencing this. good thing others are encountering this as well.. i missedthe touch sensitivity feature now which is not avail in this phone anymore..

Same thing was happening to me. I had a screen protector on that covered everything but the speaker. I took that off, and put one on with cutouts and I haven't had an issue since.

How do you even enable knock code? Mine is greyed out.
Mine works just fine here on Verizon. Knock twice to turn on/off the screen LOVE IT! Much better than clicking the home or power button on my past Sammys

Not the double tap to wake. The option where you tap a code into the screen instead of using a standard lock screen code or pattern unlock.
Same here, too many misses of the Knock code (compare to the G3). I really hope that it's just software issue and not hardware (digitizer).
It's hit or miss with mine (no pun intended). When the screen is on, there is a square, blue outline of a box in the lower half of the screen. I assume at that point you're supposed to tap within the box, rather than using the entire screen?

Do you have exchange mail set up? A lot of companies require a more secure lock to the phone and disable knock code and face unlock, etc.

I tried this. I un checked everything. Still no change. I thought maybe because I wasn't using the stock home screen, but even switching to that didn't change anything.

I was having this same problem and even factory defaulting the device did not help.
I later found out that I was accessing it the wrong way and all is well now.
Go to Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Select Screen Lock and you should be able to choose them properly.
However, I was accessing it through:
Settings > General > Security > Screen pin and over here the options for knock code is grayed out.
I hope this helped~!
I've been having the same issue with the knock code only working 70% of the time when the screen is off. I didn't own the G3 so I have no idea if this is worse performance than it. It's very frustrating. This and the slow charging issues the G4 has are really disappointing.

FYI, T-Mobile pushed out an update this week. Among the changes (actually, the only change I've noticed so far) is the knock to unlock has improved. That seems to suggest a software fix can help.

As title. Searched but can't find a sensible solution for this. Pattern lock gives a bit of security against casual intrusion, but it's a pain having to undo the HTC lock first. Any way of disabling the HTC lock?
doesn't 'No Lock' from the market do this?
How about stopping the green line from showing up? Too many people are figuring out my code .

Tilt the screen in daylight - smudgy fingerprints give you away!
Still no answer to my original question.
Yea I thought this too. So I got rid of pattern lock and just use slide until I can get rid of slide.
You could try out "Lockpicker" it can disable the HTC Password Screen and let you keep the pattern lock.
I'm guessing that you have the HTC Password screen due to Exchange Security Policy ?
No I think they mean just unlocking the phone normally. Nothing to do with Exchange.
I am also keen to figure this one out. Also 'No Lock' lets you wake the screen and unlock by presssing any physical button on the phone. I would like to be able to press any button to wake the screen and then use pattern unlock. Simple really, but seems so hard to get working?!?
Is there any way of getting the password lock to apply after a set time rather than every time I want to wake the phone? I don't want to have to unlock if I've put it down for a few minutes but would appreciate some password security if has been unused for a user definable period of time.

Use Locale. I set mine to only have the lock screen when not at home.
i believe the reason that the "HTC Lock" is enforced is because you could easily lock yourself out of the phone if your phone turns on in your pocket.
imagine: you have no HTC lock, and your phone turns on in your pocket. walking around, the screen gets pressed either because you have your hand in your pocket, or other reasons, and the phone then registers 20 incorrect attempts at unlocking the phone. BOOM! you're locked out. the htc lock thing largely prevents this from happening.
i know it's annoying, but there is a reason it's there i think. and remember, if it wasn't the HTC lock, it'd be the android lock. it's not just htc that's doing this.

I have the Exchange setup and I was forced to setup a password to unlock the phone (plus Lockpick to remove it) - unfortunately I cannot change password or unlock to a pattern - simply I can't see it in the security menu...
I have figure out the solution.
After setting up you lock pattern. Go to Security -> Lock phone after and set it to
Immediately
This will actually lock your phone which require unlock pattern to unlock it.
I accidentally came across this feature that I've never heard of or seen before. When the screen is off tap once then drag your finger down a bit and you'll get a little heads up.

I love this feature and the knock features as well. They're awesome. But LG should have given the user a choice whether to use them. Seems like it would be very simple to have a setting for these and whether they are active or not based on the user preference.
I thought my screen was having issues too, and I agree - would be nice to have the option to enable or disable this as battery life is undoubtedly taking a slight hit.

Does this work on the AT&T version? I've tried like 50 times and haven't got this to display a single time...
This is awesome on the Verizon version. I have seen this flash a few times and not know why. That is super awesome.
It is basically a swipe down / hold motion. Once you remove your finger, it turns back off.
I dont seem to have this function on TMo version. If I swipe down the blue light flashes for a second, but thats it.

It's been confirmed that and the multiple users (guest mode) features have been excluded from the AT&T version. I looked a couple of days ago, and was disappointed to learn this.
Boo damn AT&T
I was skimming through the user manual included in my T-Mobile box and it's actually listed in there. That is how I found out about it. I'm guessing it's in everyone's manual probably.

FYI. Not only do you have to have a lock screen, but the screen has to be locked. I have my lock timer (Settings | Display | Lock screen | Lock timer) set for 5 min after screen timeout, and for those 5 minutes the peek doesn't seem to work.

I just have swipe to unlock and it works. You just pull down from the top just like you normally would but with the screen off. The led will turn on and just let go and pull down again and it will show.
Anyone care to guess why AT&T would omit this feature?

Why must carriers mess with features of a vendors phone? I wish there was a ROM I could use to get back to factory for a base LG G4 (like the developer version of HTC One M8 I used to have).
I must have disabled a page and a half of AT&T apps that all require some form of payment to use...

Enabling every single one of those options still doesn't allow, for example, lights in the Home app to turn on. As described earlier, you can initiate the process without unlocking, but it won't proceed until you actually unlock. Thanks anyway.

Nest Mini is a good suggestion, but personally, I keep my Mini's microphone switch always off. I want to do everything by phone. Maybe the OP will like the idea better. Google should just fix it, though.

I should mention, I had to add my location twice into Smart Lock to work and now it works perfectly.
I also have to ask, what is the point of the nest mini with the mic off? The speaker is very low quality compared to other speakers in its price range.

Doorbell, cheap (I got one for $15 and the other for $20), and my wife is happy with how it sounds just fine.
I've got a Denon receiver for the high quality needs.
Since it comes with a physical switch for the microphone, I'm sure there are others who feel similarly.
i've tried doing the boxing trick with smart lock location ie 4 separate location points around the corners of my home location. I used to do that with my samsung. i'll see if that helps. stupid bug tho that should just be fixed.

Oh, another reason is they're very small, you can buy mounts that make it so you can just plug it into the wall and the speaker is held right there above (or below) the wall socket, so it's out of the way.
adding further smart lock points made no difference. nifty trick from google. this particular facility doesn't fully work, so you're pushed towards buying a nest or two.

smart lock in general is working, but I still randomly get asked to unlock my device when issuing voice commands.
I am having this issue as well. Just switched from 4a 5g to a 6, and ever since then I very frequently hear "but first you'll need to unlock your device", even when I never said anything that even sounds like google. Plus it interferes with me using my dedicated assistant devices in my house. I don't want to disable assistant completely on my phone, because I use it while I am out and about, but if it is locked, I don't want it to respond at all. All of the toggles mentioned in the screenshots here are unchecked, yet it still does it.
Same issue here. I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and it does this all the time. Have anyone tried to suggest a "feature request" to Google Assistant team? Maybe this can be a future enhancement as this is such an important and common use case. I'm thinking that if it really want to be secured, maybe it can trigger something like:
sure, but first you'll need to unlock your phone. What's the passcode? Then if you are driving and can't type in the passcode, you can then just "say" the passcode, etc.
Thoughts? Thanks!

I'm confused also. That just looks like the aod. What's the problem here?
You mean that you have AOD off, and when you touch the screen you want to go directly to homescreen instead of the AOD, right?
The behavior on mine is exactly this one, I would like to have the AOD instead...
That "quick pickup" BUG has been really annoying me. It started with the december update -- did not exist before then. Glad to see a solution for it.

the bug is from nov, or maybe from beginning.
Is this about the phone screen constantly waking up whenever you touch the phone, regardless of whether you have disabled things like Always On Display and all the gestures like "Lift to wake phone"? If so, there's a fix you can use through ADB. I found this solution on reddit, and it's worked perfectly for me. No downsides.
Code:
adb shell settings put secure doze_quick_pickup_gesture 0
Found the solution from this reddit thread:

Yes, thanks, I did this, and when lift to check is set OFF, I have the ambient display when I lift up the phone, and this is OK for me. But if I enable Tap to check, the phone goes to homescreen, if I disable it the screen remains dark.
The usual things (integrated solutions or the many ideas I found online) do not work. I don't want to permanently disable it but I am absolutely annoyed to constantly have to unlock it while i'm just at home.
I want Automate to have it off while home and on while outside. Such a simple task and yet so complicated :-(
(Smart-Lock doesn't work at all for me. Never had on any phone.)
Maybe someone has found a solution?
Set lock_screen_lock_after_timeout to any longer value. I have created a task that runs after every boot which sets this value. You phone will never be locked. Make sure you uncheck Settings -> Security -> Screen lock -> Power button instantly lock.

Ah thank you, another option that will work. Thanks for sharing!
If you don't want to go down the tasker route,
Macrodroid with _Screen unlock at Home does the job.
Just change the SSID in the template. (Parts 1 and 2 needed)
What about on first boot? Don't you need to enter a password then? I want to bypass the password always, even after a reboot. Is there no way to have Tasker auto-login when the lock-screen is shown?
NOTE: I do have lockscreen set to Swipe, but that causes multiple issues which is what I am trying to fix... 1) No VPN without a lock, 2) No GPay without a lock, 3) Can't view Chrome saved passwords without creating a lock. Therefore disabling the lock at home is not a solution for me. I want it always disabled (swipe to unlock), but I want 1, 2, & 3 to work anyway.
PS: Here is how to do the timeout thing without Tasker... I will try that out for now, as it should solve everything except reboot (maybe I can live with that).
Code:
adb shell settings put secure lock_after_timeout_rollback 86400000
adb shell settings put secure lock_screen_lock_after_timeout 86400000
86400000 = 24 hours in miliseconds. You can change to a number that you find suitable.
This secure settings will survive after reboot so you only need to do once.

probably using this you can use your locations to enable or disable....
lockscreen.disabled=0
Click to collapse
Sadly this was amongst the things I've already tried, but alas: Nope. Simply does nothing (for me).
Click to collapse
Shouldn't it be
lockscreen.disabled=1
0 = false -lockscreen.disabled=0 =false =lockscreen.disabled=NO
1 = true -lockscreen.disabled=1 =true =lockscreen.disabled=YES
