Does anyone have the Asus Zenfone 2 coupled with H2O?
I just bought the Zen 2 and H2O couldn't activate my acct. I bought 2 new Sims and both don't work. I used my other phone and the same Sim card activated.
Asus and H2O were on the list as MNVO's would work together. That's why i bought it.
I'm in the U.S. and bought my phone at Amazon.

I have my Zenfone working with H2O. I use it in Sim2. I had the sim card before I got this phone though, so it was originally activated with my Nexus 5.

Man, i should have tried seeing if slot two works on my new phone. I realize slot 2 doesn't give you the same as slot 1, but i would tale slot 2 if it still gave me 3 G+.
Not sure it would work, and i don't want to lose my old phone. But if i knew the Asus Zenfone 2 would work in slot 2, i'd be fine with that.
According to the Sim slots, slot 2 is only 2G? Why couldn't it be at least 3 G?
Did you try calling H20?
Try this it will save you the trouble of dealing with H20 and it works
This is all you need for LTE and phone service

Well, i called them yesterday trying to activate the new phone. They couldn't and i reverted back to my old phone with the same Sim. I ordered a couple of more Sims and they should be here any day now.
Once i get the new Sims i'll do a live Chat again and see if inserting the new Sim in slot B will work.
But i bought the Asus Zen 2 not as a 2 G, but as a 3 G+ and 4 G LTE.
I also e-mail John Lu from Asus and told him about my situation. Still waiting to hear from him.

I just received an e-mail from Asus asking me what band they are using.
Then he said "If the band it provided could not meet this phone's spec, it won't get lte or 3g signal actually.
OK, here are the settings for manual with H2O:

My new Sim cards came today. I will try chat again and see if the new Sims work, if not, should i give the chat person the settings you used or should i do it manually. Actually, i just realized they are Smart Sim cards, which i hear, at least according to the website, makes configuration much easier.
I'm still on my old phone, don't want to lose my old phone until these new Sim cards work on my new phone.

I have a couple of new Smart Sims cards. It's supposed to automatically configure the settings.
My current phone is connected to H2O, how do i just use the Smart Sim in my new phone if the #'s are the same? Obviously i want the new Sim in my new phone, does my old phone automatically become deactivated?

the screen is from:
settings > more > cellular networks > access point names > access point names
then add the apn, following the picture provided by vegasdiceshooter.
I can confirm that this apn works with H2O/ASUS Zenfone 64gb unlocked version.
Notice where things are "0" and not "O" in the picture - I did it wrong the first time.
Thanks you

Hello all,
I just got my ZE551ML Zenfone 2 (US) on Friday and have been running it through it's paces. One of the big benefits for me was going to be the dual sim functionality. I was looking forward to using my work SIM in slot one (since it has a big data plan) and my personal SIM in slot 2 (for personal calls, texting, etc.). I have been unable to get my personal sim in slot 2 to send or receive MMS messages, however, which may be a deal breaker. I've tried adding APN's, but they disappear after I hit save. Has anyone managed to get MMS working on SIM 2?
Anything that requires data on the second SIM will not work as it's not supported. In short, no MMS and no internet in SIM 2. Only voice and texts work.
Only SIM card slot 1 can access 3G/4G/LTE data. SIM card slot 2 can only be used for 2G service which include voice and basic text messaging (Not multimedia messaging services MMS or internet browsing).
Sincerely
ASUS_USA

But WHY!? Why no mms option?
It has never been written in any specification of the Zenfone 2 that sim 2 is not data ready.
It is explicitly mentioned 2G including Edge and GRPS...
i.e. 2G does not mean no data but only slow data...
Asus is hiding this information and this is a fault.

Agreed. Asus should explicitly say, "only voice and sms, no mms" -- since many non-tech oriented people don't think of mms as something that uses data. 2G does indeed communicate *very slow* data to people, not, "no data at all, including MMS."
Same issue. It is configure conflict. Reset apn to default then make a new one for your provider and use that one . Delete other one.
Deleting or resetting APNs will not allow mms on sim 2. Sim 2 only supports voice and text.
Yes I agree with u. The mms is looking to sim2 because of apn misconfigure. I use strgth tlk wth att. When I put in att sim it configures apn for att . Apn must be configured for strght tlk to use att. A new apn must be made and used. If u reconfigure att apn an internal mess up seems to occur.

It seems this issue is with phones that are unlocked and the person is installing their own sim provider. All presetup phones from asus don't have this issue
---------- Post added at 05:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:38 PM ----------
I didn't see they are using 2 sims. Most post of the mms on sim2 issue are a single sim user. Thought this was one of those. Sorry.
I just put in a new micro-SIM card from AT&T and my Zenfone won't connect to my cellular data. I can make calls and SMS and nothing more. I put the SIM back in my old Nexus 5 and it received cell data right away.
I called AT&T and they had me verify my APN settings were correct. I can attach screen shots of these settings if necessary.
I called ASUS support and they had me verify my APN settings as well
Has anyone else in the US with AT&T had issues with getting mobile data to work?
Edit: I was able to resolve this issue by speaking with AT&T again. They found that I didn't have a data plan set up specifically for my line (I'm on a family plan). I'm not sure what this means exactly but the rep I chatted with set up a data line for my phone and after a reboot, it connected right away.
There is a post on the AT&T forums that I shared with the rep. If you are having the same issues, PM me and I will share it with you. I think I Googled "zenfone 2 at&t app" and it was the first result. Sorry I can't share the link.. I haven't posted enough

For whatever reason I can't get my totalwireless sim to connect to data in my pixel 2 xl. The sim works fine in my pixel. I can put a xfinity mobile sim in the pixel 2 and it will connect to data just fine. I can't even edit the apn settings when the totalwireless sim is in the phone. It just tells me I'm not authorized. Anyone got any ideas on how I get my pixel 2 to connect to LTE on totalwireless?

Get a new sim from them. Sprint is the same way
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Got a new sim, activated it with the pixel 2 xl imei. Still no data, cannot edit the apn settings. The new sim also works fine in my pixel 1. Google just tells me to factory reset or reset network settings. That doesn't help. Totalwireless wants me to manually add the apn, which I would have done from the begining but the apn settings are locked and I cannot change them. Just going to return the phone as its not really useful without data.
A fix!
munkle,
Me and another reddit user have been battling with the same issue. I've gone through 3 Total Wirless SIMs and haven't fixed the issue. It has to do with not being able to add or edit an APN on the phone. Another user figured out a workaround though. I'll copy his reply here. I haven't tried this yet but I'm going to try it this weekend. Here is the quote
"Holy ****, I think I've cracked it.
This is the most convoluted set of steps I think I've ever had to do on something that should be easy... however this answer is kind of a pain.
I managed to get my hands on a H20 wireless sim crd which uses the att network. As I said before it lets me add an APN but not save it. So what I did is leave the screen open where I entered the APN info. swap out the sim cards in the middle of it and hit save whenever the phone got service and bam! LTE!
I can't believe this is what I had to go through... And I can't even promise it will work every time. I tried the process again on my RMA phone, but all that phone would pick up is 3G... go figure... So I think your best bet would be to swap in a buddy's sim card who uses att or tmobile, just to get to that 'add an APN' screen and then swap your sim card back in."
I can confirm that the above works. I now have LTE data. That is messed up that you need to do that.
Edit: actually it only half works. I still can't send mms messages. Probably because the apn screen wouldn't let me exactly match the settings on my pixel 1, it says the carrier didn't support certain things.
See this topic: https://productforums.google.com/fo...!msg/phone-by-google/_PGJbTEuY0M/BY724wAkBwAJ
It's the future of android, unfortunately, in that it's an android 8.1 issue (at least Android 8.0 on 1st gen Pixel XL doesn't have this issue, but Android 8.1 on 1st gen Pixel XL does have this issue).
There is a new setting in the apns-conf.xml file (found in /system/system/etc or /system/etc), which setting is labeled "user_hidden" with options "true" and "false". All of the Verizon MVNO settings are labelled as "true", meaning that APN editing access is now restricted.
There is no way that I know of to edit this file without bootloader unlock and root.
And, it's definitely an Android issue, as Android 8.0 (other than on the Pixel 2 XL) and earlier did not have this issue.
Speculation on my part, but this is probably Google's response to its exclusive carrier, Verizon, request that these phones not be made easy to use on much-cheaper-than-Verizon MVNOs.
I've got my unlocked S9 from Samsung. I have a Redpocket CDMA sim card, which works fine in a Samsung S7E and a Google Pixel. However, when putting this sim card in S9, the S9 could not get on its network. It shows Emergency calls only and "Not registered on network" when making a call.
Sometimes it shows "refreshing sim card data" and no network. When turning to network modes, it says "LTE/3G/2G" etc but redpocket cs seems to believe the right one should be "LTE/CDMA" instead, which is not in the list.
I tried various usual ways such as factory reset etc, which did not change anything.
I tried a project Fi and a verizon sim card in the S9 and they were recognized with no problem. Thus I think the S9 is not defective.
I did some searches and people mentioned S8 had the same issue too: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/unlocked-s8-failed-to-register-red-t3736850
I am wondering whether anyone has this problem or a solution.
Will flashing to verizon firmware help?
Thanks.
I'm having the same issue with PagePlus! I just put the SIM from my VZW S6 into my unlocked S9 and when that didn't work I chatted with support to do an ESN change (I thought perhaps PP needed to do something on their end). I was told if there was no "LTE/CDMA" option that the phone wouldn't work on PP.
I tried using an app to switch between different network modes (including the LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto which my S6 uses) to no avail.
I'm tempted to try flashing the VZW firmware, but the post here makes me wonder if it will accomplish anything.
I tried that APP to force network mode too but it did not seem to work.
As an update, Redpocket customer service is really great that they moved my number from Verizon network to their GSM/ATT network, and everything works fine now. I do not want to try flashing verizon firmware for the same reason...
Too bad Samsung could not get such a simple thing right.

Can we sue them?
I faced the same issue too. Apparently, Samsung does a setting update that prevents the sim from registering for Verizon's MVNOs. I called them and they said they NEVER heard of this issue. Apparently, you all did too. I am tempted to sue Samsung for this since this could be an antitrust issue. They are preventing competition by working with Verizon and feigning ignorance. Can any of you comment on this?
I was going to go with one of Verizon's mvnos. And their SIM card would not work and I did not realize it until I spend the $40. I had to put an actual Verizon sim in my unlocked phone to use the Verizon network. So either Verizon is blocking the S9 on mvns or the mvnos don't have the updated information for the S9. Total wireless told.me it Had to be a Verizon branded phone for it to work. So I think if someone flashed the Verizon firmware on the unlocked version it probably would work.
i dont see anywhere on the post where you contacted the MVNO provider, to register the ESN or IMEI of the device.
Also does this MVNO even allow BYOD?
i remember I had a line from Cricket or Metro that had a sim card, it worked on my Nexus 5x, however inserting it to another nexus 5x, it didnt work, I had to call them to register my IMEI
Hey guys this is an old thread, but maybe this will help someone. My old Red Pocket SIM would not work on the S9, but my renewal came with a new SIM, ending in 8222-15XX (old was 8180-50XX) For ****s and giggles I put it in and it showed LTE/CDMA and verizon. Had RP CS switch my active SIM and now it works with no workaround!
TL;DR Try a new RP SIM if you are using one a year old or older.
I also have similar issue.
Where I used to get lte over voice, but no longer getting after a recent update from samsung. Using Redpocket cdma sim
Now I have lte and voice, but dont get lte over voice even though redpocket said they have enabled Volte on my line
We just added an Unlocked Galaxy S9 (replaced S5) purchased from Amazon (Black Friday sale), ordered new Sim from Pageplus (MVNO using Verizon ), called them to transfer the phone number, popped it in and the S9 configured itself for Pageplus, and everything works perfectly...

That's great news. I switched to GSMA due to CDMA issue. I will switch back to CDMA after my current plan expires.
I heard that RCS (messaging via wifi connection similar to imessage - samsung messages app supports it in pie I believe, not sure about oreo) is active in verizon now including mvnos. Have you tried it?

I tried for my unlocked note 8. For the new sim coming from red pocket, it works great at the first time. But later when I switch the sim to a GSM sim for international travel and then switch the sim back to the red pocket sim, the same problem appeared. I have to use verizon sim to get LTE/CDMA back in the emergency mode.

I think you've found the answer for those who are unable to get their existing RP SIM to work on the S6-7-8-9's running OREO or PIE. I just took a later serial numbered CDMAV SIM (89140000018821472XX), inserted it into another S8+ that I have, booted it and saw the Verizon Wireless scroll across the top. I'll chat with RP today and see if they will switch the ICCID numbers between old and new.
After countless hours looking into this problem, I tip my hat to you for the solution provided.
Try as I may, in the end it didn't work for me.
It worked for me when I flashed the latest un-branded U1 firmware G960U1 UEU6CSI1 via the patched Odin, from:
https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model/?record=E68EDDB6DBFB11E99E59FA163EE8F90B
I've also done a full factory reset from recovery after the flash.
I guess they must have fixed it with the latest firmware updates... ymmv
Since the August update, both of my Verizon branded S8+'s work directly upon inserting a RP sim card.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION!! (YMMV)
I had a similar problem when I upgraded to Android 10. I no longer had CDMA as a choice for Network mode. Here is the solution that worked for me:
Step #1:
Go to the phone dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
This will bring up a new screen
Select "Phone Information"
You will be greeted with a scary-looking screen with lots of stuff
Scroll down and look for "Set Preferred Network Type"
Select "LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)" from the drop-down
This will give you phone service... but not data.
STEP #2
To get data services, you will need to create an APN.
Go to settings/connections/mobile networks/Access Point Names
Click on add and enter the following:
APN Name: Verizon
APN: VZWINTERNET
MCC: 311
MNC: 480
Authentication Type: None
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
I found that this APN worked for me... (YMMV)
Hope this is helpful...
are you folks still having trouble with this? it doesnt seem like a difficult obstacle to overcome
Thank you sooo much! Creating the APN did the trick.

You are positive the SIM is functional?
Have you tried changing APN settings?
I dont recall ATT APN settings I have been on ATT for many years.
But when I was I modified the settings to improve performance.
A google search should return results easily.

I suggest you take the phone into an AT&T location and have them provision a new SIM for you. Don't leave the store until you have a signal. Remind them this is the RMA unit not working after the first phone was returned. It's not the phone.

I watched the ATT rep try five different sims and none of them worked, this is absolutely insane.
