Can't access cellular data - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just put in a new micro-SIM card from AT&T and my Zenfone won't connect to my cellular data. I can make calls and SMS and nothing more. I put the SIM back in my old Nexus 5 and it received cell data right away.
I called AT&T and they had me verify my APN settings were correct. I can attach screen shots of these settings if necessary.
I called ASUS support and they had me verify my APN settings as well
Has anyone else in the US with AT&T had issues with getting mobile data to work?

Edit: I was able to resolve this issue by speaking with AT&T again. They found that I didn't have a data plan set up specifically for my line (I'm on a family plan). I'm not sure what this means exactly but the rep I chatted with set up a data line for my phone and after a reboot, it connected right away.
There is a post on the AT&T forums that I shared with the rep. If you are having the same issues, PM me and I will share it with you. I think I Googled "zenfone 2 at&t app" and it was the first result. Sorry I can't share the link.. I haven't posted enough

Same here cant conect to cellular data network but putting SIM card into the other phone its work, not living in us with at&t

How To VVM on AT&T (confirmed Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash)

Many of you are aware of a thread in the Focus S section of this forum about someone with their Focus S getting VVM to work. However, it wasn't the most helpful thread to replicating it. I have since replicated this on a different device (the Focus Flash), so I wanted to post something here to let more people know.
Thanks to davezaff for the idea.
Here is how I did it on my Focus Flash. You will probably need a way to edit the APNs.
1. Update to 7740
2. Update to 8107
3. Insert sim card into an AT&T Android LTE phone (I used skyrocket)
4. Go to att.com and switch plan to Data Pro 4g LTE plan. I had to call to switch since it wasn't working on the website.
5. Setup VVM on Android LTE phone (don't know if this is necessary, but this is what I did....make sure friend knows the VM password so they can re-add it when they put their sim card back in.
6.Insert sim card back into Windows Phone
7. Call Voicemail
8. Wait for VVM to show up on phone (mine showed up after calling voicemail).
9. If sync error, edit the APN as follows
APN settings (delete the internet_line APN)
Create a new APN
APN Name: pta
Profile Category: internet (always on)
APN: pta
Auth type: None
Username:
Password:
Proxy address: proxy.mobile.att.net
Proxy domain:
Proxy port: 80
I now have working VVM on AT&T with my Samsung Focus Flash. My internet tethering still works (applied the Interop unlock + tethering hack from XDA). I have not tested MMS since I did this, but the MMS APN was untouched.
So they have tied vvm with their stupid data plans, how nice. So I can pay $20 for 300mb + vvm or I can pay $10 for unlimited data and traditional vm... ATT is so dumb.
Moved To WP7 General
This is not development, its more of a guide. Please post such threads in the WP7 General section
For the normal person, it is pay $30 for 3GB of data with traditional VM or pay $30 for 3GB with VVM. The only difference is one plan has the word LTE at the end.
how can one even get the 8107 update on the samsung focus s? i tried the old force update method (disconnecting the internet connection) with zune, and that hasn't worked...

Any idea if this works with the ATT Titan?

Yes, and just download the English only language pack.
i already updated to 8107, but im asking if the vvm works for the titan, i also don't know anyone with an LTE android phone
Does this work if you don't setup VVM on the android device first? I was thinking of just calling AT&T and asking to be switched to the 4G plan.
Get it working without an LTE device
OK, I got this to work on my Lumia 800. Furthermore, I didn't have an LTE device.
What I did have however, is an AT&T store that caters extensively to my place of work (a software company). They are really nice, understand unusual requests, and try everything to help.
I did the following:
1. Upgrade the OS as per the original post.
2. Call the nice AT&T store that I mentioned above. Asked them to put me on an LTE plan. (I was already on an enterprise plan, so I was moved to the same enterprise plan but the LTE version. Cost of my plan remained unchanged).
I explained that I was doing some app development, and planned to be swapping phones from time to time, some of which are LTE phones. (I also have a microsim adapter, so moving between phones that take microsim and regular sim is not an issue for me).
They asked if I'd like VVM provisioning. I said yes.
They told me that they would change my listed phone to a blank IMEI (basically change the IMEI listed on my account to a blank IMEI that's associated with an LTE phone for provisioning purposes). I don't know if this is something all stores would be willing to do.
3. In the APN settings, I changed my APN to pta. I did NONE of the other settings mentioned (proxy, proxy port, and everything else are BLANK).
Now I have Visual Voicemail on my Lumia 800!
Hmm so why is vvm only available to LTE phones/network I want to get this.

...because AT&T wants to sell LTE devices.

I wonder if this blank IMEI is a special IMEI that at&t has to test LTE devices on accounts or something. I wonder if this IMEI would also work on other accounts as well. Hmmm.
I don't suppose that IMEI is something you could share possibly? I mean if its not a real phone, and can work on multiple accounts, it would be very nice to (selectively) share it so that some of us can get VVM.

I agree, since I just called asking for essentially this setup and they deniened any special IMEI.

So i also have an 800 and asked them to provision me for HSPA+ recently, so they switched my data plan to one that was supposed to be able to access it (i have no idea if it really can - that's a whole different can of worms). What did they switch your plan to? If you look online and hit "recent usage", you can see under "Additional Data Purchased Usage" your data lines with the plan code. My code is "HSSMTD4O" Just wanted to see if i could skip the "call att" step.
Thought I would share my experience also..
I was able to get VVM working on my Focus Flash. Luckily I have a friend that works at the ATT store. He just took a Samsung Note scanned the IMEI and added that as my phone. Then he enabled LTE and VVM. I rebooted phone and went in the the phone tile, and VVM prompted me for password. I put in password and all has been good.
The easiest way would probably be to borrow a friends VVM supported phone and put your sim in it, then have them add VVM to your account.
I did not have to add any APN's or make any changes to the phone.
Getting it working without a LTE device and without AT&T in your pocket
So, I decided to try and get VVM setup on my Focus S today, but I have no friends with AT&T and the local store was unwilling to help in the fashion outlined above.
So what to do? Well the main thing you need for this is the IMEI number from an Android LTE phone. So I asked a couple friends that don't live close by, and none of them had a LTE phone.
So I searched the internet for those "Get unlock Codes" websites, specifically for tutorials on LTE phones, and some of them show the IMEI number.
So I went into chat support and told them I needed a LTE plan with visual voicemail, and they asked for the IMEI number, I gave it to them, and then 2 minutes later VVM is now provisioned and working properly.
Yeah so I ended up adding the IMEI of a random Galaxy Note that I do not own. It was dead simple to do it online through tech support chat. After that, just called up voicemail, waiting a second or two, hung up, and then my phone prompted me for my voicemail password and automatically enabled visual voicemail. I realize that AT&T's system does not check for duplicate IMEIs across the network, so you can throw the same IMEI onto any number of phones and AT&T wouldn't know a thing (until they start looking of course).
I did have to change my APN to "pta" to get it to sync properly, but after that it was all smooth sailing.
Now I've got Visual Voicemail on my Titan and Lumia.
I am glad some of you were able to get it to work. The big issue I had before starting this thread was getting the APN settings. After getting VVM enabled, it couldnt connect until I messed with the APN. Glad I was able to help y'all!

[Q] Why Does my Korean N7100 think I'm roaming and not connect to mobile internet?

I bought my n7100 on taobao here in China, and it's a Korean version. I put my China Mobile sim card in, and it makes and receives calls, and text messages and can use wifi with no problem.
The only thing is the mobile data doesn't work. I rooted and tried tweakker, and HiNet, to reset my APN and MMS settings, but that didn't work. My phone still thinks I'm roaming.. it displays
this message "Data Roaming, You have lost data connectivity because you let your home network with data roaming turned off".
I've also tried updating the APN and MMS settings manualy with information i've found on the web.
I've googled and searched this forum and I can't find much. I thought it would be an easy APN settings fix but it seems not to be...
I took my phone in to the local China Mobile store they couldn't fix it. I took it to a local android expert here and they didn't know what to do.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
If you bought a Korean Note 2, you don't (shouldn't) have an N7100. I also purchased one through Taobao.
You should have an SHV-E250S, E250L, or E250K. Which one do you have? Check the baseband version under Settings > About device page.
No matter what, you're going to be limited to 2G only with China Mobile.
You're right, It's SHV-E250S, and I'm fine using the 2g in China on China mobile, but I'd just like to know how..any help?
Baseband Version is E-250SKSVLJK
Try removing all modifications to your APN settings.
Next, go into Settings > More settings > Mobile networks > Network mode and change it to GSM only. Also make sure that Data roaming is not selected. Run a new scan for network operators while you're in there to refresh your APN settings to the right ones.
In data network mode I only have 2 options "3g only" or "LTE Preferred" I have it on 3g only. I have now unchecked data roaming, but I don't see any place to scan for network operators. I have included a few screenshots here, sorry i don't know how to insert them.. http://tinypic.com/r/2198djn/6 http://tinypic.com/r/24dhfmx/6 http://tinypic.com/r/2zof98w/6
Now it's obvious why you don't have data. Is this the stock Korean ROM? Are you rooted?
I can point you to a decent ROM that will fix all of this, provided you have the patience to fix it. It's relatively easy.
Yes it seems to be the stock Korean ROM. I am rooted using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31801060&postcount=2 I'm more than willing to flash another rom. I've put about 20 hours into this so far, I imagine I can muster enough patience to finish it
Once they give us a damn Korean Note II section, this kind of information will be a lot easier to find.
Try this ROM for now, it's the one I've been using for a few weeks and I love it.

Thanks a lot the rom (715mb) is downloading now, I have tried to flash ROM's on my old galaxy nexus, and on this note II, but I never succeeded, can you please link me to a good guide, on how to flash this rom? thanks.
Odin is included in the download. If you're using Windows 7 you may or may not have the drivers for the phone, and can grab them out of the All-in-one Toolkit. Just installing the toolkit should install the drivers necessary.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923956
The ROM you're downloading has two files and two pictures, as well. Open the pictures and follow along. All you have to do is click two buttons, select two files, then hit start. It WILL wipe your phone.
I installed that rom you suggested, I went into settings and did GSM only, and had it automatically find my network (china mobile) selected it, rebooted, and still it says i'm roaming so there is no connectivity... any more ideas?
Can you try somebody else's SIM?
There's no reason you should not be getting service unless something is not right with your SIM or phone.
I installed the rom you suggested, i went into settings and made it GSM only, also had it automatically correctly locate my network (china mobile) and it said "registered on network".. but it still isn't working, same problem, it says no connectivity cus i'm roaming.. any ideas now?
my gf will be home from work in a couple hours, I can try her sim card then.. my sim card was cut by me for my old iPhone.. is it possible or likely that the phone can still make and receive calls, but that somehow data connectivity was affected by me cutting the card? also one guy at the phone fixing store tried his sim card (from another company) and internet worked fine he said..

China mobile have various sim plans, from local to province to national. Are you using the sim in the same city in which you bought it? If not and you don't have a national plan, it could be why the phone is showing roaming. In China going from one province to another is already considered roaming unless you have a national plan. This is from my experience back 2 years ago. Also, you best check at a China mobile shop if you have data activated, gprs/edge is not activated by default, you need to ask them to do it.
I would advise you to switch to China unicom as they have 3g/hspa which is much faster than china mobile.

For clarfication, I am in Hainan, and the card is from hainan. I use the same sim card in my galaxy nexus without any problem. I tried my gf's card just now, it didn't say any problem with connectivity, and did not display roaming.. And it shows the G symbol (for 2 or 3 G I assume), and has up and down arrows next to it.. but it doesn't actually work for browsing the web or using apps over the data network.. I even reset all the APN settings and let it automatically find the China Mobile network, but it didn't help.. what if I try to set the APN settings manualy? and any other ideas??
Showing the G symbol is GPRS, which is 2G. You will not get 3G on the N7100, N7105, or Korean model Note 2 on China Mobile.
Sounds like you need a new SIM card. You can try to set the APN manually to make the data work with hers. I've never had to set an APN manually and I've used many phones here with all 3 carriers, so it's a bit odd to me. No clue why your card doesn't work, but since hers is working fine, it's definitely not your phone.
For the record, her card displayed G, but even after messing with settings, I couldn't get it to have working data network..
Today I bought a new card, and had it officially cut to size, put it in the note II and it's still telling me no data connectivity due to i'm roaming.. i'm so frustrated
edit: after restarting a few times and trying to automatically make it register on china mobile .. it worked on the 4th attempt.. it still displays data roaming, and I had to enable data roaming... but now it works, even though it says i'm roaming?? wtf
Ive the same problem with my Korean galaxy note 2 all voice service work perfect but when I tried to turn on data it says insert Usim Card to access network please help

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 Unlocked can't get data on Roshan network

I am currently in Afghanistan and the local network here is Roshan. I unlocked my phone by requesting the code from T-Mobile which they provided. I got the voice to work, but have no data. I don't even show data status in the system tray like E or G or 3G. Before I got out here and I was still under T-Mobile, I had them suspend my line for my time out here. I don't know if that has anything to with it, but I thought I mention it just in case. Now, all my mobile settings are on. I texted 167 with "GPRS on" to get the configuration settings sent to me. I installed them. I then double checked the settings with several sites to make sure I had the correct settings. I called the customer support for Roshan, and they sent me the same settings. I called T-Mobile and they said it has nothing to do with them as I have unlocked my phone and the problem is with the Roshan network or settings. I then heard there might be a hidden T-Mobile Access Point Name Setting in my phone that could be interfering. I then rooted my phone and followed some instructions posted by TheUnlockr site for deleting hidden APNS. I used APN backup and restore app, but my phone let me know that no Third Party Apps can be used on APNS for Android 4.0+.
I have a buddy who is using a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 and his works on the network.
So, if anyone has any ideas that could help me figure out what the actual problem is, I would really really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Partial (Data only) carrier lock??

I recently purchased an HTC 10 US model from ebay, taking my chances given the low price tag. The phone is loaded with a Telcel OS version, though the seller advertised the phone as unlocked. Hardwarewise, everything has been working beautifully.
I just got an H2Owirelees SIM, activated, popped it in. Initially, when I tried to manually create an APN, it reported 'this user is not allowed to create APN profiles.'
The device later auto-updated with APN info sent from H2O. I can send and receive calls and text, but still no data connection. Under settings, Data is enabled but shows 'Disconnected.' No data connection at all, not 2g, 3g, 4g, nothing.
So I'm wondering if there is some sort of partial carrier lock, which is not allowing me to receive data connections. The phone's model no is 2ps6500, which should mean that I have the US version. I would initially get a system notification suggesting I purchase a data plan for my phone, which redirects me to Telcel's website, which is why I suspect some sort of carrier lock.
Any insights on this? I realize this is probably a situation which not many others are encountering, but hoping to resolve without needing to flash a different ROM.

Can't connect to mobile network.

I have a pixel 3xl, up to date stock non rooted, on straight talk lte/cdma Verizon network. I got a text saying straight talk now has VoLTE so I tried to find it in settings but there's no option for it. When I search it it comes up but when I click it it goes to mobile settings and it's not there I did the *#*#4636#*#* and it's also grayed out there. I changed the network mode in that diag screen to lte/cdma to see if that helped, was on global before i think. Still no VoLTE and for some reason I can't make calls. I have data, can send and receive texts but when I go to call it says no network. Removed Sim card didn't fix it, restarted it. Safe mode doesn't help either. Tired clicking trigger carrier provisioning, updated the smsc. Change mobile network to lte only, back to global, lte/cdma. I have no idea what else to try. Straight talk is basically useless for customer service so I haven't even tried yet lol.
Update!! It works!! Somehow I either damaged my sim card when I switch from my pixel 2xl to this 3xl and it somehow lasted till now. Or when I changed my network settings something wrote to the sim?( And it messed it up?? IDK much about how the phone and sim interact with each other)... But I did have a 2 year old sim card, it did not have VoLTE or wifi calling capabilities I now realize. So I bought a new SIM card at Walmart and activated it though the straight talk app on my account and kept the same number. Works perfectly and I now have VoLTE, no wifi calling yet but the option is now there and lets me click it but it fails. Doesn't matter to me, I'm just happy to have VoLTE. I'm leaving this post because straight has horrible customer service and I could find anyone who ran into this specific issue.
