Can't connect to mobile network. - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

I have a pixel 3xl, up to date stock non rooted, on straight talk lte/cdma Verizon network. I got a text saying straight talk now has VoLTE so I tried to find it in settings but there's no option for it. When I search it it comes up but when I click it it goes to mobile settings and it's not there I did the *#*#4636#*#* and it's also grayed out there. I changed the network mode in that diag screen to lte/cdma to see if that helped, was on global before i think. Still no VoLTE and for some reason I can't make calls. I have data, can send and receive texts but when I go to call it says no network. Removed Sim card didn't fix it, restarted it. Safe mode doesn't help either. Tired clicking trigger carrier provisioning, updated the smsc. Change mobile network to lte only, back to global, lte/cdma. I have no idea what else to try. Straight talk is basically useless for customer service so I haven't even tried yet lol.

Update!! It works!! Somehow I either damaged my sim card when I switch from my pixel 2xl to this 3xl and it somehow lasted till now. Or when I changed my network settings something wrote to the sim?( And it messed it up?? IDK much about how the phone and sim interact with each other)... But I did have a 2 year old sim card, it did not have VoLTE or wifi calling capabilities I now realize. So I bought a new SIM card at Walmart and activated it though the straight talk app on my account and kept the same number. Works perfectly and I now have VoLTE, no wifi calling yet but the option is now there and lets me click it but it fails. Doesn't matter to me, I'm just happy to have VoLTE. I'm leaving this post because straight has horrible customer service and I could find anyone who ran into this specific issue.

AT&T Incoming Call to Voicemail. AT&T users I need you help

I need AT&T users to test this for me. On my wife's 5X on AT&T it seems like every call goes to voicemail first but if you call back it will ring. Could someone test and see if they are getting this? If not do you know how to fix? Thanks
I'm receiving calls just fine on mine. I'm on att trough net10 though so I'm not sure if that's different.
I'm on AT&T and no trouble receiving calls for me.
So odd, spent some time with att on the phone. My suspicion is that when a call is coming in since we do not have volte it drops to h+ which has a weak signal and goes to vm... When will att allow volte for not att phones?! Thanks all
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
if you haven't yet, I would reset/flash as new without sim and then reinsert sim and go through setup as stock. No google voice or hangouts or forwarding and see what happens.
my 5x hadoffs between lte and h+ happen a bit depending where I am at my house, and I don't have any problems. MY last thought is check airplane and do not dusturb, but still. I would start at the beginning.
maybe you've already done this.

I also have AT&T, and no problems receiving phone calls. I had to get a new SIM card when I got the phone (nano SIM to replace the micro SIM that I had used in my old Nexus 5). I noticed that the APN that was the default on this phone is "ATT Nextgenphone", instead of the "ATT Phone" APN that my old Nexus 5 used. The old "ATT Phone" still shows up as an option, but I figured that I'd just leave it as is (on the "ATT Nextgenphone" APN. I don't know much about it, but from googling around, I believe that this APN is for VoLTE. (http://developer.att.com/technical-library/apns/apn-descriptions-and-characteristics). Might want to check APN settings and see if you can change it to Nextgenphone.

Thanks but hers is also on that apn. I'm going to send it back to google and try a different unit. According to everything I have read VOLTE is only available on AT&T if you have their specific phones. I hope that changes soon but if I'm wrong and you are getting VOLTE please tell me. Of course the easiest way to test is to turn off wifi and while you are on LTE have someone call you and see if it drops to H or H+ or if it stays on LTE. Thanks!
I am am also having this same issue. People trying to call me are getting call failed messages and they have to dial 5 or 6 times before the call actually connects. I did you get a solution?

Can't place or receive calls; LTE data and SMS works fine

Hey guys, just unwrapped my new N5x and popped in my sim card. Yet for some reason I can't make or receive any calls!
Calls to me go straight to voicemail, and when making an outgoing call it either immediately says call ended or after a while says network unavailable.
The strange thing is that the entire time I'm connected to LTE (full bars) and data works fine (I can use chrome), and I can even send and receive SMS!
It's been like this straight out of the box. I reset the network settings, then factory reset the device, then upgraded to 6.0.1, rinsed and repeated with no luck.
Probably related: I tried setting the phone from LTE preferred to 3G or 2G but it still says connected to LTE. Even did it manually from the *#*#4636#*#* and nothing changed.
I'm using HOT Mobile in Israel and the American version of the phone. All bands are here are supported.
Any thoughts on how to proceed?
Do US specifc models of phones normally work fine in Israel?
I know I had these symptoms when I managed to accidentally swap my UK model to use USA bands. Only potential difference is that I don't think SMS worked for me.
If someone more knowledgeable knows where the "Network settings reset" pulls values from and to, that might help.
Or which partition holds the data that makes a US phone a US version and an EU phone an EU version (assuming it isn't hardware), we could potentially flash stuff.
Yeah they do. I have a friend with a 5x and his phone is working fine. :/
Check your apn settings, re add them again to test.
Maybe your network do not support lte calls, try it on 3g. This was my solution even thought my network supported volte and worked on s6 but not on my 5x.
I see you tried the 3g option, my problem was another app causing the conflict between lte and 3g. Able to source for another spare sim to try?
I deleted the apn settings - no luck. tried 2 different service providers and same results with both
I havnt installed anything yet and wiped the phone to be sure. Could a stock app be causing the conflict? How can I check?
did you try having your friend put his sim in your phone and yours in his to see if it works?
Yep - he's on the same service provider that I am. Didn't work. Also tried a Sim card from a different service provider.
Here is a solution if you still need it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64023143&postcount=10

Phone Stuck Showing "Searching / No Service"

Hello all. I purchased a edge+ today but whenever I insert a sim, the phone stays on searching. I made sure that I rebooted the device and I also tried re-seating the sim many times. I believe the device is unlocked and the imei/esn is in clean standing with T-Mobile. I tried a MetroPCS sim card and it stayed on searching, same thing happened with a Verizon sim. However when I inserted the T-Mobile sim, it sometimes says no service but ever since I rebooted the device, it stays on "searching" no matter which sim is installed. I find this whole ordeal frustrating since the signal bars show up for the MetroPCS and T-Mobile sim but with Verizon nothing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yours is G928T? If yes, it does not support Verizon/Sprint even if it's unlocked.
Did you buy it off of Craigslist/Ebay? It might be blacklisted. checkesnfree.com

Yes, it's the G928T but it's not blacklisted I checked. The simcards I was using on the phone were old ones(no longer in service) I thought they would work. I used a scissor to cut my WORKING sim and placed it in the phone and it took the MetroPCS sim. Everything works fine now except calls and text only work with WiFi Calling on. If I turn off WiFi, I can't text or make calls(not on registered network) but if I turn the WiFi back on, it works fine. Any suggestions?
MetroPCS and T-Mobile are on the same network.
Check/add MetroPCS APN.
Setting -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names
Add MetroPCS APN if it's not there.

Yeah I know they are which baffles me as to why it isn't working. I tried adding a custom APN but same thing happens. I get calls/sms on WiFi but if I turn it off I get "No Service"
Just go to metro and get a new Sim. You could have damaged it by cutting it. It should be free. ATT gives me then free all the time. Usually, the phone will just auto update the apn settings when a specific carriers Sim is inserted

I went and it turns out the device is blacklisted. This whole time I was rolling with the imei in the phone, after checking last night, I noticed that the imei on the back of the device differs from the one that's actually on the software. I was able to get in touch with the seller and he's coming back to give me my money back. Guess a mod can mark this thread closed.

Wifi Calling, Verizon Pixel 2XL, using Straight Talk AT&T Sim no option

Hey all, I've been pouring over the forums here and other places trying to find a solution to my issue. I just got a Pixel 2XL the verizon version and I'm using it on Straight Talk with an AT&T sim card. So far so good except I cannot get wifi calling. I'm pure stock, android 9/Pie, no bootloader unlocks/rooting etc. The wifi calling option does not exist in the phone app nor in the settings anywhere. Even when you search for wifi calling, it simply takes you to the network and connections section of settings but wifi calling is no where to be found. I've tried the adb command (the one that apparently used to work on Oreo but not longer does on Pie) and that didn't work (though I didn't expect it to since many people said it no longer works on Pie). I have an Unlocked Note 9 as well and its wifi calling works perfectly fine so does anyone have a way to make this work? Reception at my home is somewhat lacking and I really need wifi calling.
Thanks!

Could you attach a screenshot with the WHOLE section of "Mobile Network", found inside of "Network & Internet" in the Settings -- make sure that you click on the drop down menu next to "Advanced Calling" -- this will help make sure that wifi calling is really missing as well as might point something out that may help with a solution. Moreso, personally, because I can't even imagine what the settings menu looks like missing this...

It might be a long shot but try checking the settings in the Google phone app. There should be a place that says configure IMS calling. I have this setting here and in the network settings. If you have it that's where you can enable wifi calling.

Been there done that. I have no options for setting up IMS calling. I only have SIP options. Also, I have tried the phone dialer trick (where you dial *#*#4636#*#*) and that shows the wifi calling option as a toggle but its greyed out and cannot be enabled. I even tried an adb trick that used to work on the 1st gen pixels, but to no avail.
What happens when you enter your information here?
I'll have to initiate a chat with Straight Talk. Like you I have a Pixel 2 XL with a Straight Talk AT&T SIM. The only difference is that mine is unlocked. I just ran my phone number and the IMEI of the SIM through the linked site and it tells me my device is not compatible. Since I have a BYOP SIM and the IMEI is of the SIM itself, chances are high that the SIM needs replacing with one that includes WiFi calling support.
EDIT: According to the representative I just spoke with, there's no guarantee that changing to a newer AT&T SIM will enable the feature. The only guaranteed method according to tech support is switching to a T-Mobile SIM.

Hey thanks for the help. I tried that link as well (before I posted here; sorry I should have mentioned it) and it said my device is also not compatible. I initiated a chat with them and they told me the same; switch to T-Mobile. I am tempted to do so but the one thing holding me back is my home is already a place I get poor signal and T-mobile's coverage while much improved still isn't as good at AT&T's. I realize that having wifi calling would fix any lingering signal issues but I do manage to get 1-2 bars of 3G at my house with AT&T, I figure I won't even get that with T-Mobile. So I am weary of the switch. I'll have to consider it though. I could also wait for the full rollout of the latest google voice (since it finally is bring VOIP without the need of hangouts) and just use that number instead.
So I contacted Straight Talk and ordered a T-Mobile sim card. It'll be here in a few days. I will post my findings after it arrives. Straight talk support says wifi calling works with all T-Mobile sim cards so we will see.
Hello all,
Okay, so I finally got switched over to a T-Mobile sim card (again still with straight talk). It took a while cause I had to buy a new one (the old one I had expired; who'd have thought?). Anyways, switching to T-Mobile solved all my problems and then some. Not only do I have Wifi calling, but also HD voice, VOLTE, Tethering, and 3-4 bars of LTE (previously on AT&T, I got 1-2 bars of 3G). I realize the signal issues is merely a coverage thing but I can say with certainty that switching to a T-Mobile sim card will give you all the advanced features. I hope this helps others who might experience this problem. I've been using AT&T (in one form or another) for the better part of a decade and can now honestly say, AT&T sucks.

LG G8 Amazon edition on Sprint, can't make/receive phone calls/texts, but HAVE Data

Got the LG G8 unlocked Amazon Alexa edition last August (2019). I use it with Sprint. I love the phone and it worked great, until a month ago.
All of a sudden, I can't make or receive phone calls or text messages, but I DO still connect to the Sprint cell service (I have bars) and I DO have working 4G LTE Data. Literally, one day it worked and the next day it didn't. I hadn't powered cycled the phone or anything between it worked and when it suddenly didn't. It just stopped working.
When I try to call out, the dialer gives me an "Out of service area" message, even though I'm within my service area. When someone tries to call me, it goes straight to voice mail as if my phone is turned off, except that my phone is turned on. When I try to send a text, it sits at "sending" indefinitely and never sends. When someone sends me a text, I simply never receive it.
Sprint, I do firmly believe, has done everything they can to troubleshoot it and proven it's not a network issue. Several different kinds of resets, including a factory reset. I was able to reactivate an older LG V20 on my account and it works just fine.
The phone is still under warranty with LG, and I was able to send it in for repair at no cost, but they did not find anything wrong with the hardware. They did do a software update of some sort, but that did not resolve the issue.
So now I'm essentially stuck between both Sprint and LG saying it's the other's issue. First unlocked phone I've ever bought and it bites me in the butt.
Any other ideas for troubleshooting either on the phone itself (beyond all the standard stuff which I've already done; I mean, if a Factory Reset doesn't help...), or with Sprint?
Thank you!
I had the same problem with Amazon variant. I used an app called Hidden Settings Muiu and went to "Phone Info" then switch the Preferred Network Type to LTE only leave it on there until it says LTE on data and no network on Voice then switch to LTE/CDMA and it get 1xRTT. Ive tried tweaking settings and everythingelse but no luck that seems to be 100% effective but anytime you **** with your network or restart you'll have to do that.
Edit: Do Global(PRL) then LTE only then to LTE/CDMA. Otherwise itll stay on EvDo for data not LTE.

I used ##873283# with dial key pad. It took a few times but finally worked. As soon as you power off or restart your phone, your back to where you started.
I bought mine from bestbuy 1 1/2 yrs ago. They are having lg send me a new one...
