[Q] How to disable camera shutter sound - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In the past I have either had rooted phone or I have used tasker to silence my camera. Then I got my G4 and I cannot get the stock camera to go silent using tasker. It wont activate the profile when using normal app setting in the profile app selection menu. When I use apps and services from the same menu it works but keeps the profile active all the time. When using the same profile on Google camera it works like it should. What am I missing or doing wrong?

Sadly yes. No settings for it. Or should there be? If yes where? Im one of the first ones with G4 in here as it just went on sale here. Should be nordic software version.

Just put it into vibrate mode or no interruption mode? That's what I usually do still

Yeah but that works but I normally use Tasker to automate it. But somehow Tasker wont activate the correct profile when stock camera app is opened. Google cam app works fine and activates the profile that makes the phone go silent but stock one wont activate the profile at all if I do not check services as well as apps from tasker and then it wont go back to normal after closing the camera.

Gotcha. Hmm. That's the only way I've ever done it without root or custom ROM.

I dont know has LG done something to the stock app so it wont be recognised correctly by Tasker or what is the reason it wont work as usual.

Only way that I got it to work even partly is making a Tasker task that silences the phone, opens the camera app and then waits for a minute or something similar and then resets the sounds to normal. Not optimal but works at least for now. And I dont remember if Iyou can make a task variable that waits until I close the camera app and then resets the sound settings. If that worked it would work almost as good. Only problem is that when launching from camera shortcut it wont silence the camera.

my phone is On vibrate mode and the camera also no shuttering sound

I have tried everything from vibration and also setting for no interruption still there is shutter sound any solution? Thanks.

What region phones are those. I have European (and possibly Nordic software) version and silent/vibrate make the cam silent

I have got h818n dual sim. Indian version.

Anyone with a working solution until root? I would have thought this would have morre interest in users.

I just found out that it isn't the Ringer sound that matters, it's actually the Notification sound. Found out using the Volume Control + app (or any app that can separate the Notification sound from the Ringer).
Maybe you could do a Tasker action for the Notification sound..?
W.Z.

Won't help as Tasker does not recognize when camera app is open
Sent from my LG G4

Okay, maybe a on/off-switch for the Notification sound then? You'd have to push two buttons, but better than nothing....

Agree, nobody seems to have mentioned it in the photo thread so apparently there are workarounds for some variants.
I would not feel comfortable with the camera sound at all. its the first thing i switch off. And usually (with other devices) there is a simple setting to do that.

I just use my Tasker shortcut with timed silence and it works ok but does not work with any of the LG's own camera shortcuts.

Is it not possible to find the sound file and rename/delete it?
Or is that where one would need root?

[Q] Unlink notifications and ringtone volume?

Has anyone found a way or an app to unlink the ringtone and notification volume? This is a real deal breaker for me. I need to find a way to be able to set the phone on a "phone only" mode at night so that only the ringer is on.
This is a new issue with ICS. It was available on older version of android.
I've been searching for this as well; so far nothing. Audiomanager (pro) can't set them individually. I guess we'll have to wait for custom ROMs or a Google update to get the 'old' behavior back.
I'm pretty sure they changed it after froyo.

With Gingerbread 2.3.3 on my Galaxy Ace I was able to set volume for notifications and ringer individually.
This is killing me. I need to set just the ringing on without having notifications make noise. Does anyone have any ideas?
same issue here. I solved it by downloading a silent mp3 and adding it to my notifications folder. I can then choose it within the profile app I use for my sleep profile. phone still rings but notifications are using the silent mp3.hth I use "profile" but same strategy should work with any similar app.
Yeah, this really annoys me too. My ringtone is plenty loud with the Volume+ app. Only notifications are still very quiet. Really need to boost the notification volume without blowing out the speaker with my ringtone!
I suppose one could just record a louder notification mp3.
But it's a workaround for something that shouldn't need a workaround!
Try downloading Quick Settings from the market. They allow you to adjust the notifications volume separate from the ring volume. They have six different volumes you can set.

It's a cool program, but unfortunately the two are inextricably linked. Quick settings lets you pretend to set different levels, but it doesn't stick. Try having separate volume levels, close that setting, and open it again.
OS problem unfortunately. Really short sighted of them to remove a clearly useful feature.

I ended up doing this too. The only issue here is all apps have to now use the default notification tone or they will not go to silent. I guess this will have to work for now.

This doesn't work in ICS. The two volumes are linked for some dumb reason.
Hoping for a fix on this one soon as well. I need to be able to hear my notifications when I am at work but I can't have my ringer going off at obscenely loud levels.
Same here, really hoping they bring back that functionality to unlink notification and ringer volume.
For me the ringer volume is too low, so I want it on max, but then my notifications are extremely loud and I really don't need the whole office to know I just got an email/text/tweet etc.!
bump to see if anyone has found a way to do this.
Solution
Hi all,
This has been bugging me since moving to ICS also, so I wrote an app to work around it! I just published it today.
Market link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brianhislop.icsringervolume
It's still a work in progress, but it's fully functional and gives (I believe) a good solution to this issue!
Cheers,
Slopppy.
Come on, people, star the issue in google code and let's push google to fix this issue
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23117
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23202
Has this been fixed in Jellybean or are notification and ringer volumes still linked?
I'm not running JB, but from what I've heard it's the same as ICS.
necro bump
I have been using an app called "Smart Sound Profiles".
Finally I'm able to have separate ringer and notification volumes!
It is a paid app, but there is a free trial version to try it out for a few days.
It works like a charm on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus on JB 4.1.1
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tartar.soundprofiles
Update to jellybean, not sure about stock but every custom jellybean rom i have tried gives you the option to decouple notifications from ringer, also some custom roms have an option to custom preset a quiet time period start time and end time, i have not tried it myself but believe there are other settings in quiet time to further customize sound output. Jellybam 3.3.0 had it i am pretty sure but check latest features and changelogs in jellybam thread OP, there are plenty of good jellybean roms with these features and jb is far better than ics my current rom whilst totally excellent and ultra fast doesnt support quiet time but has the delink notifications option.

[TEAM XPOSED] Various options unlocked (EnableCameraInCall, JoinMoreThan5Contacts)

Hi guys. Some of you may not have known this but there are a TON of configurable options on our GS3s without even touching or modifying any system files. You've gotta hand it to Samsung for making things so easy to customize with their /system/csc/feature.xml file.
Join More than 5 contacts:
Navigate to /system/csc/feature.xml and open with editor:
Add this in under <!-- Contacts -->
Code:
<CscFeature_Contact_SetLinkCountMaxAs>_INSERT_NUMBER_</CscFeature_Contact_SetLinkCountMaxAs>
You can put whatever number you want there. I chose 15 because it seems like a good number haha.
Save & close.
Enable camera while in call:
Navigate to /system/csc/feature.xml and open with editor:
Add this in under <!-- Camera -->
Code:
<CscFeature_Camera_EnableCameraDuringCall>true</CscFeature_Camera_EnableCameraDuringCall>
Save & close.
Shutter sound (currently doesn't work on some ROMs but the option appears):
Code:
<!-- Camera -->
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>false</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Simply changing this line to TRUE will get you a shutter sound option in your camera options. This file contains a ton of different configurable options for your phone, but beware, changing something in here could have a very negative impact on your phone without you even knowing it and may leave you scratching your head in the future if you completely forgot you've changed something here.
Is this file executed/parsed on every boot? Yes and no. I know it is on first boot of a factory reset device. It is also set to run on boot, but I haven't changed anything in here since my first boot to test it out.
If you do try this on an already setup system, please report back with results. Thank you and enjoy!

OP you may want to ask to move this in general. I just tried this on Verizon and it works perfectly. Great find!
Also you can remove unremoveable bookmarks in the browser by editing /system/csc/customer.xml and changing the editable "no" to a yes. Keep in mind you will need to close and wipe the browser data from the application menu.

My phones acting all glitchy..:(

First I noticed that my email icon says I have 205 emails, no matter what. I also noticed that my voicemail icon doesnt like to clear. All my ringtones were set back to default even my email and text. Even after resetting my email ringtone it still wont sound. My multi-window kept opening every time I hit the back button even though I had made it stay closed by pressing and holding the back button. I had to restart my phone for that to work correctly. While this was going on, my phones battery was really bad for 2 days. I didnt even use it, it was connected to wifi and the battery drained by 8 pm, with no use. Its 10:45 here right now and I have 80%, which is good. I noticed the screen flickers with white sometimes too when I hit the home key. I am getting really tired of my phone not working. There was another thing that wasnt working correctly but I forgot what it was, a restart fixed it though. Anyone else having problems? what should I do? I know it isnt much but I like my stuff to work correctly. I Am stock rooted. I am not on lk8.

Sounds like something is borked from a bad download or flash. I would reset to rule out the normal issues. With all the sms and app backup programs out there you don't stand to lose much, if anything, by reflashing the rom.
Why the hesitation?
Rooting can be great but typically is to install a program (feature) or rom that didn't come stock. If you're doing this and can't afford to reset if a conflict comes up then it generally its a good idea to stay 100% stock and let sprint fix your issues [which they typically do with a reset]
If you decide to reset try sms backup, and an app backup program like titanium or app backup and restore.
Good luck!

HTC Boom Sound Notification on Status Bar

Is there a way to shut off HTC Boom sound notification on status bar? It is quite annoying to see it on status bar 100 times a day. Sometimes it just blinks for no reason.
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It only Shows when something is playing.
So some Kind of App is responsible.
AFAIK you can't get rid of it now without root.
I wonder if you can use the disable notification feature built in to marshmallow if you can work out which app it is?
Might just be the settings app.
I don't have mine yet to try it out, but on my current Z3+ I can disable notifications generated by the main settings app.
I've read about this and it'll probably annoy me. I like a tidy status bar. The little keyboard option selector on my G4 that pops up when I'm using my keyboard annoys me, too.

On HTC 10?
I'm fairly certain the only way to get rid of it on G4 is to delete/disable all keyboards except one. I use SwiftKey and cannot disable LG Keyboard so I'm stuck with it on this device.

Don't you've something like this:
Settings -> Language & Input -> Selector Icon (ON/OFF)
Did you try long pressing the notification choosing settings and unticking notifications?
I do not have the Selector Icon setting and there is no option to untick it in settings. I have an AT&T version, if that matters.
The Boomsound icon will appear if ANY app is running that autoplays video/audio, including Blinkfeed; News Republic; Facebook, etc. The best way to prevent it from appearing under such circumstances, is to unselect autoplay video in every app.
The reason it's popping up randomly is because of silent videos, like ads on mute, facebook videos on mute, etc.
As for disabling the notification, you might be able to accomplish that with sense toolbox (xposed) but you'd need root.
Ads on mute such as in Instagram causes the notification. It is just not necessary. Hopefully there is a "fix".

You can actually activate control over the existing toggles for the quicksettings; however, you will not have access to more toggles. Just open the quicksettings, then press and hold on the Settings button until it asks you to activate SystemUI Tuner. For more toggles you'll have to install a custom ROM (e.g., Viper10, LeeDroid, etc.).
Perhaps a custom rom like Leedroid or Viper can help
I've had the phone for a month now and it just started doing this yesterday. I've always had blinkfeed going and it never did it before. I don't have FB or instagram on the phone. I've cleared all recent apps and it still does it, all night long too. It does it every time I turn the phone on from sleep. It's really annoying, anyone figure out why yet?
OK so I noticed that it seems to only do it when " location services" is on

Sent from my OnePlus 5T using XDA Labs
Updated to open beta 23, shutter sound is still there even if it's turned off in camera settings
I tried to take off sim and rebooted device without sim. Shutter sound feature in stock oxygen os camera app works normal.
As soon I reinsert sim. Camera has shutter sound back even if it's disabled in it's settings
Appreciate If someone please guide me in how to remove the sound from apk in stock oxygen os camera and reinstall the modded apk without camera shutter sound.

It's possible.. I am also having the same issue. Even if we turn off the shutter sound it's still there.
I believe it's a huge task for noobs like me to understand and remove the correct files from camera apk in order to get rid of shutter sound.
Rooting is a immediate option which will allow me to remove the shutter sound under media folder in system. Again it costs me my other work and banking apps
So far under root I have faced issues with all of my banking apps, Google device policy. Outlook, tez, especially Outlook and tez detect my device as rooted at random times even I had them added in magisk hide
Please let me know your suggestions on using pie without the annoying shutter sound in oxygen os camera
On other side, If I have to root. I look forward to hear from people and their experiences in running apps like tez and Outlook in their rooted devices
Thanks to OnePlus for fixing the shutter sound bug in last stable 9.0.4 release. I'm back to unrooted with locked bootloader. Everything is working great..
