Please can anyone suggest a way to stop the Desire from locking and demanding a password everytime you turn it off.
I use Exchange server mail and I think this has forced this issue.
I have found a way to turn this off, but this is not good enough as there is no security at all.
What I would like is for the phone to demand a password only after a prescribed period of time say 30 minutes.
Any ideas.
Sam
I am just wondering what is considered GOOD battery life when playing games.
Using juice plotter, I estimated that after playing FF7 on FPSE for an hour that it uses approximately %12. This is with JuiceDefender disabling all connections except the phone at the same time.
This puts my total play time at about 8 hours continuously.
Just wondering what other people are getting.

That's very good. I play GTA 3 for about 15 mins and it takes up 20% of my battery !
And even Super Mario World on the Snes emulator I play that for about 7 mins takes up 6%
What's going on there?
How high is your screen brightness?
Maybe the PS Portable software is a battery hog.
Also do you have juice defender? With it disabled 1 hour takes up about 22-24% batter, with it turned on and disdabling connections, it went down to %12.
Either that or I'd call your cell provider back and tell them your battered FUBAR.
I mean I let my cell sit all night from about 10:30PM to 6AM, which in juicedefender is set as NIGHT mode and it turns EVERYTHING off, and turns on silent mode. I lose maybe 4-5% overnight.

I have half brightness with auto brightness on. I'll try juice defender and see how it goes.
Which Android version are you on 0.42 or 0.62 ?
Using the stock sony 2.3.4, so .42 I believe.
Try This program RootDim. Set brightness to about 25%, adjust slightly as needed. Then go turn auto brightness off.
You can set profiles so during the day, go into the program and choose a brighter profile. Not as easy but it seem better.
I've heard auto brightness actually uses more battery power from constant brightness shifting.

Aha I'll turn auto brightness off. So your not rooted or anything right ? so you have the sony ericsson processes running in the background?
Thing is I don't lose that much on stand by just like you 4-5% overnight so that's not an issue. It's only when playing games and wifi as well.
Oh no I'm rooted, and I removed all the crapware. Well removed some, froze others.
Need to be rooted to use rootdim anyways.
Then why not root your phone? doesn't hurt it.
Yeah I think I will. That must be the reason all those sony ericsson apps/processes that are running in the background must be using the battery up when I play games.
Just spend the $5 on Titanium Backup pro. I did, and $5 on Juice Defender Ultimate. Best $10 I've ever spent on a phone.
If you buy Titanium Backup pro you can freeze things. This means they stay installed, but cant do anything, if something goes wrong, just unfreeze it.

Where did you root your phone from ? give me a straightforward thing not too hard.

SuperOneClick. doesn't get any easier. Might take a few tries and reboots but it does work.
Just make sure USB debugging is turned on when you do this.

What is your setup on Juice Defender to get the best battery life ?
This is assuming you have ultimate:
Under STATUS:
Profile: Advanced
Under CONTROLS:
Mobile data: Enabled
Wifi: Enabled (You can use wifi prefered if you want, it just will ALWAYS enable wifi, wait for a signal, connect, or wait for a signal if theres none, then finally connect data. I prefer to not use wifi prefered, as it takes longer to connect. I'll just do it myself.
AutoSync: PING. You can have juice defender also enable/disdable background data. I don't because it's still experimental, I'll use it once it's stable.
Keep enabled: Disable both of these (not lit up) if they aren't already.
Bluetooth: Use it if ya have a bluetooth device, leave it disabled if ya don't.
Timeout: I don't use it, as I already have the settings in the android settings itself. And I have found it can sometiems cause problems. Try it out, but if it doesn't work, you'll have to reinstall JD.
Auto Brightness: Keep disdabled, same thign with android's auto brightness, uses more. I prefer to use RootDim. also, it gives an error saying a light sensor isn't on the Play, which is weird because it does. So the feature is still in beta.
CPU: This is an underclocking utility to save battery power. enable it, but don't touch the underclock settings, you're gaming performance will decrease. Underclock it only if your a moron for buying a Play to not use it for gaming. Go down to the governor setting and change it to conservative. governmors are explained herE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843406
GPS: Seems good but still in beta. Will wait for release to test.
Under Schedule:
Schedule: ENABLED
Frequency and Duration: These mainly come into play while the program is asleep. It will enable the device every so often, and keep it enabled for atleast a sertain amount of time. this is to let background data and sync get your emails and such. I have mine set to 30min and 30 seconds. So every 30 mins, connectivity will enable for 30 seconds. don't worry, if you have alot to sync for some reason, it doesn't cut off, it will stay enabled until it's done. (this is set on another setting.)
controls: Default
Night: Enable this and set it to whenever you usually goto bed, and when you usually get up in the morning.
Adaptive start end: I have mine set to +30m max, end -1hmax. This depends totally on you.
Options: Silent
Peak: I keep this disabled. Use it based on the instructions if you REALLY want it.
Weekend and Night(weekend): I don't use these, go ahead if you want to. I keep them disabled.
Under Triggers:
Battery and battery threashhold: I keep mine enabled and at 15%. This means if the battery hits 15%, all conectivity save the cell, is disabled. You can set this lower or higher if you want. If you're under the threshhold and you want to turn connections on, pull down your menu, click on the JD icon, a box will come up allowing you to enable conections until you lock your screen.
Charger: only AC is enabled. Can choose either of the others if ya want. USB would mean it takes longer to charge.
Screen: ENABLED
Options: Enable Ignore on Low Battery. this makes the battery threshhold thing work.
controls: default
Traffic: ENABLED
Traffic Threashhold: I have mine set to NORMAL 15s. What this means is that as long as theres an active connection, JD will not disable anything. But once the connection is finished, it turns it off and goes back to normal. so for my settings, as long as there is 10Kb of data every 15 seconds, it will stay connected. If it falls below that, disabled.
Apps: ENABLED
Configure: Interactive. Go and click on CONFIGURE APPS. This allows you to set up connection profiles for every app with 4 settings, ENABLED, ENABLED/SCREEN OFF, DISABLED, DO NOTHING. Enabled means connections will stay on inside that app. ENABLED/SCREEN OFF means if that app is running when the screen is off or asleep it stays enabled, I don't use it as it isn't very battery saving. DISABLED, when you go into the app, connections are disabled. DO NOTHING, if you go into the app, nothing happends.
Use ENABLED for apps that use the internet, browser, market, etc.
I never use ENABLED/SCREEN OFF for anything.
DISABLED: Use this for games, and other programs that don't use the internet that you use for long periods of time, such at FPSE, Mugen, etc.
DO NOTHING: Use this for apps that may not use the internet, but you're only going to use it fast. If you give these apps disabled, more battery it used to disable and enable connections every time you go into it.
LOCATION: This is really only useful is Wifi Prefered is enabled, otherwise even if this is enabled, it won't work. What this does is keep track of Wifi you have passwords to, and wifi hotspots. If you unlock your phone near one, it will auto connect to it. As well it keeps track of the range of the wireless signal, so it will know when it can connect. This takes a while for it to train.
After a day or so, you can goto the ABOUT tab and it will tell you approximately how much JD has increased your battery life by. On my X10 I was hitting 2.2x. But on Play I'm at about 1.8x. Then again it's a gaming phone, so no surprise.
Hope this helps!
Ok, so from what I've read the heart rate monitoring happens all the time but to get an instant reading and minutes spent in each heart rate zone for that day you have to go into the app. Is there any other features? Does it upload to a website so you can see your details of a longer period of time? Or are there any 3rd party apps that extend the functionality? Occasionally, I often finish my day past midnight so wouldn't want to lose the previous day's stats because I forgot to check them before midnight ticked over.
Any help would be very helpful. TIA
Is there anyway to stop the phone from dimming on low battery? I just got a Hyperion extended battery and it tends to last forever at 1% since it hasn't figured out accurate drop rate yet. So its frustrating to have my phone on low dim for hours.
Thanks.

You could try AdjBrightness from the Play Store. Might be outdated and not work on the Note 4 but there are similar apps related to it like RootDim (phone needs to be rooted for this).
Other way to do it requires permanent root and modifying a system file to shut off auto-dim and low battery warning. Same goes for warning when setting volume to max for headphones, bluetooth, etc.
I know which file it is and will modify it once we get permanent root. Most custom ROMs shut all these and warnings off so we don't have to modify it ourselves.
Under power saving go to restrict performance and uncheck screen output
First days, after I got this phone, I've seen that the refresh rate is adaptive between 60 and 120hz. The last two days refresh rate got stuck on 120hz, no matter what I did, it was only 120hz, except some apps. Today it's back to adaptive. Bug maybe?
Some apps are stuck on 60hz all the time.
File manager - 60hz
Google photo - 60hz (by comparation, the gallery app is 120hz).
Music app- 60hz
Mi video - 60hz
YouTube - 60hz (scrolling the comments).
Sometimes settings app and the entire UI is stuck in 60hz untill I switch to 60 and back to 120.
My s21Ultra and Z Flip 3 are 120hz on YouTube and Google photo and all other apps.
I know you don't need 120hz to view a photo or video, but it's about scrolling. And apps look ugly when scrolling on 60hz after getting use to 120 for a long time.
There's a list of apps that are to be stuck on 60hz .... Inside battery and performance apk
You'll find games , apps and whatnot inside all limited to 60hz
Benchmark apps are also there For that extra performance boost you won't actually be able to use anywhere else...
I'm pissed because I want to play mobile legends at 120hz and am not able to !
I unlocked FPS to 120 but all in vain , phone is permanently stuck at 60hz...
just buy a new phone... Non Xiaomi
My first and last time using Xiaomi
Ps. I tried everything! Nothing works as a fix , only thing I didn't try is editing battery and performance app and removing apps I don't want it to limit...
I mean I tried but it broke the phone ...
( Bootloop and after I got out everything else was broken like fast charging, GPS , Cellular... )
IF you have time you can probably figure this out , sit by ur pc and keep trying until you get the phone to be able to boot with modified app... It will require tons of reflashing probably a day or two of work at least. It's possible but I'm not gonna be doing that for mobile legends...
YouTube, Google Photos etc being 60 Hz is on purpose by Xiaomi.
There is also a bug where your phone gets set to 60 Hz randomly for all apps. When that happens, you have to set 60 Hz and then 120 Hz again, or enable & disable Battery Saver through a Quick-Tile, that's faster.

You can remove the 60 Hz limit and force 120 Hz all the time without Root & with Root:
Root method:
1. Install this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iamaner.oneclickfreeze
2. Disable the system-app "Battery & performance"
Non-root Method:
1. Get this program for Windows: https://github.com/Szaki/XiaomiADBFastbootTools
1.1 It needs Java installed. This Open Source version of Java worked for me: https://adoptopenjdk.net/
2. Enable "ADB Debugging" in Settings > Developer Options & connect phone to PC
3. Launch Xiaomi ADB Fastboot Tools, and disable "Battery & performance"
Basically, the system-app "Battery & performance" is doing the Refresh Rate-Limiting. It's safe to disable this system-app.
You will lose the item "Battery Saver" in App-Info's, but you can still disable Battery Optimisation in Settings > Privacy > Manage > Special app access > Battery Optimization.
In return, every game and every app that support 120 Hz, will use 120 Hz now.

Removal or disabling of the app disables many features and breaks even many more....
Fast charging does not work , GPS is not able to track location real time and is messing up when it does report location... Cellular radio constantly turns on and off , that's only the few stuff I've notice before reflashing.
All on latest beta version ... I remember seeing the same on miui vn as well.
Refer back to my post above - either modify the app to remove the strings or don't touch it at all!
If you have free time try disabling it on the latest global beta with performance mode on and report back if the charging is gone ...
( This one likely requires flashing system to fix all of the issues following disabling/enabling the app... Even the simplest tweak to the adaptive refresh rate breaks the module completely - you get spastic switching between 60/120hz on touch in apps that render at 60fps . Correct behaviour would be for display to remain at 120hz for 2 seconds after touching screen but after pretty much any modification this behaviour changes and you get stuff like display going back and forward between 120/60hz WHILE YOU'RE TOUCHING THE SCREEN, or simply having it instantly switch to 60hz as soon as you stop touching screen. Both are insanely annoying and in both cases I had to flash system to fix all of this ... Clearing data will likely result in the same thing as well - like tldr. is don't disable/uninstall the app and don't touch it's data ! I'm yet to confirm whether modifying app while preserving data will be issue free or not ... But hopefully you get the point now )
It should be , only way I see it allowing for fast charge is if it's silently enabled for the background user ( Like when you enable dual app support ). In that case you'll have to test and see what works and what doesn't....
Overall I still do not recommend this , you probably will lose all the benefits from the performance mode toggle as it likely utilises this app for all the device tuning...

It never goes away trust me. I've disabled every single app on this phone to the point where I've butchered the system enough that it wasn't able to boot again - and still the display would always go down to 60hz when not touching the screen.
It's likely that no app controls that , is kernel related or something like that so out of your hands.

I think my method disables that! I haven't found a way to keep the "variable refresh rate".
Although I have to say, Poco F3 doesn't really have Variable Refresh-Rate Support. ^^ The term is not correct, even if people use that term for the Poco F3.
It's not hardware-supported like G-Sync or FreeSync monitors, so it can't adapt the Refresh-rate to e.g. the current FPS in games.
It just sets 60 Hz when you don't touch the screen, or when nothing is rendering on the screen. It's simple software-logic.

Which rom are you on ? Latest global beta with performance mode enabled or something else? I didn't have the issue on earlier miui before performance mode but now it's the same thing whenever I uninstall the app. I have it stuck at 2000mah charging ( Battery is basically not charging at all when gaming as those 2000 mah soon get eaten up when cpu and GPU ramp up so you end up actually discharging while plugged in )
Unless you use app like cpu float I can't really compare our results... ( It's asking me to recalibrate battery before I'm even able to use the app or see current and I'd rather not go through that when the battery is well calibrated already... )
I've attached screenshot bellow , now it's showing 15000 charging at 100% battery , it goes up to 25000 when the device is at like 20% battery. With original cable I've seen it go up to 35000/50000 current so definitely not correct metrics , but overall it's consistent.
Now when I remove the battery and performance app it drops all the way down to showing -2000 as current , and when a game is opened up it goes into positive 500 - 1000 range. ( Negative means charging, positive means discharging by that amount ).
I've had it happen last 2 times after removal of the app , instantly the fast charging works no more and phone drains while plugged in. ( I've uninstalled the app so disabling it might keep the fast charge but I can't say whether performance mode tunings will remain )

I use the latest Xiaomi.eu Weekly.
AccuBattery's "Recalibration" just means it does a little check. It will ask you to connect your phone to a charger. It doesn't modify anything.
The negative current in your screenshot means it's discharging. And yes I also think your mentioned 25000, 35000/50000 milliAmps or Amps are not correct.

It's been two days since the problem disappeared. I have 120gz in all the apps and no 60hz drops at all. The only thing I changed is I logged out of mi account. I'm on EEA latest stable stock.
Just clear data on battery and performance. That locks display at 120.Im using phone like that for 20 days now. Didnt notice any problems after it, but use with caution. To revert you just need to reboot phone.
I won't be watching this thread further... But everyone that replied saying no problems with this / that - enable show refresh rate inside developers option and use it for a day or two while gaming/doing whatever...
It's not that there are no problems ... It's just that you don't know how to look for them.
I've used all these fixes before and now I'm not using any because of the aforementioned problems like what's described in my first post. Fast charging and GPS mishaps are new stuff that I haven't seen before this beta , you might not see if you're not on my software build but everything else like refresh rate acting spastically is old news and will happen if you mess with the app ... Reboot does "fix" the refresh rate by going back to enforcing 60hz locks but it still exhibits spastic behaviour randomly
If you need that 120hz unlocked for a specific app and you aren't able to modify the app instead of butchering it like this then go for it ...
Everyone else steer clear, you're introducing lots of instability to your phone all for that 120hz scrolling inside YouTube...
Well I'm on 12.5.3 eea. If its that bad maybe i wont update when it comes
In 12.5.6 stable, clearing data from battery and performance app isn't doing the trick anymore. Some apps are forever stuck on 60hz now.
Yeah. And i forgot to disable auto update
Im using youtube vanced now and have normal youtube disabled so at least that stays 120hz.
You can bug ouy normal youtube by going to recent apps ,then clearing them and doing that few times, but thats just bug.
We should pressure them to give us ability to enable that as an option. like fill their feedback app with that suggestion
Go to developer options, logger buffer sizes and set it to off. That fixed the file manager being stuck on 60fps for me.
