Would it be possible to root using the ping-pong root method, then use flashify to flash twrp img?
Sent from my SM-G925T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm sure you can, but that would definitely trigger Knox and would void your warranty. You might be able to also flash a ROM using FlashFire which is supposed to be even better and doesn't require a custom recovery. In fact, if you eliminate the boot and kernel elements from whatever rom you're flashing, you could still remain under warranty (not tripping knox).
Thanks, but I really was not to worried about knox, just wanted a way with out apc.

Yes it definitely is possible, that's how I rooted and installed twrp. Nothing like being able to root and flash twrp without using a PC!
Could anyone point me to the twrp. Img download page for the the tmobile edge?

I also need the recovery.img file. When I open flashify and try to choose the image file I downloaded it is greyed out and won't let me select it. Any ideas? I have tried downloading twrp through the flashify app and the S6 edge isn't on the download links.

I tried flashify, softbricked, took forever to get it back running as im on a mac, and having to use a VM and what not getting everything set up and the right Odin, right files, stock firmware, took me literally all night to get up and running again, and yet i still cant get twrp working on this damn phone.
Try this:
1. Download twrp recovery and zip it with the installer script. Make sure it's named recovery.img
2. Install flashfire
3. Flash twrp update zip with flashfire
4. Hopefully boot into twrp!
This is how I got TWRP installed.

Hi to u all. I need a little help in according with unroot procedure.
Well, I rooted my device without odin, but using a tool with mac, so flahing recovery.img with terminal and then flashing supersu with cwmd.
Right. Phone works good. I am still with stock rom. I would like to unroot the device for my reasons.
Could I unroot without odin. Having mac I am enable to run it. I read on play store that I can reset numbers of flashes and if I delete supersu, it become unrooted. But, with this procedure the device will give a state "custom" as well. So.....if someone could help me I will appriciate a lot

But I don't know if it works with zip file.
In others words what format is the stock firmware?

This may be a dumb question but to install a recovery from goomanager... You have to be rooted right?
I'm stock now and trying to install a custom recovery and then flash roms... Are there any custom recoveries you can install from Odin?

You need root to install custom recoveries also to flash ROMs. You have your choice between twrp and cwm. I know twrp has Odin flashable files on their site. Easy as pie.

Root with the easy way listed in this forum and then open too manager and chose option in menu to flash open recovery and start rooting!

Is this the way by flashing a whole new stock rom with root injected? Trying to avoid that if possible.

Bah there a simple way hut trips then flash counter ( which does matter because we can clear the flash counter)
Its just say casual rooting I think. Its intended at&t development section. Its a one click deal basically. You need to be rooted to do anything with odin

Okay before anyone jumps me, I have searching for weeks on this. I tried various provision files and all have gave me the force close in settings. I tried that Trev E mod wifi tether app also. I can not get this thing to tether now. It worked fine when I was on ATT with a family plan, now I am using a NET10 plan. Phone is running 4.3. Is there no tethering hack anymore?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm using Skynote AIR and tethering is working for me no problem.
Not sure what Rom you on, or if your completely stock??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
If you are on stock I have something that will work. I'll try and have something that can be CWM flashed tonight.
Try this
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407576267
I'm running Stock MK6 4.3 on ATT. Worked fine for me.
All it is doing is replacing the TetheringProvision.apk under /system/app.
If you don't want to flash the file above, download apk from here.
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407566502
You will then need to manually put it into /system/app and change permissions.
So anyone try these yet ??

Thanks, I'm gonna test right now. I am on the rooted stock 4.3 rom posted on here in December.
If I manually do it, I will still need adb to change permissions, right?

Yes. But the CWM flash works fine also. I know for a fact this apk works. Been using it for months.
Was just curious if someone had tried the flash. You can download, unzip it and go to the updater-script and check out what it does.
I can't get the permissions to change. I will try to flash it but I have twrp recovery right now. How would I go about flashing it with cwm? If I put the zip on my sd card and go into cwm recovery, just select install from zip file option?

Alright, I flashed it with TWRP and it was successful. I booted up my phone and got a message saying that teatherprovision tried to access a secured area and wad blocked. My phone the tried to update the security policy. I then tried to turn tethering on get an error saying unfortunately tether provision has stopped. The phone then said gave me the same nessage about being blocked from accessing a secure area without authorization. So it did not work. Do you happen to have the stock tetheringprovision file or any other ideas? Maybe the permissions arent right but I'm at work and not sure of the commands off the top of my head if I can even change them on the phone.

Are you rooted ?? Sorry I didn't ask first. And do you want to be? If you run the latest version it will turn off Knox.
You are definitely running 4.3 because Knox came up and said whatta doing dude?
Have you ever done anything to your phone?
Did you rename the original or just replace?
If so, I'm working on posting the oriignals
Permission should be rw r r or chmod 644

I do not have knox. Im using the rooted 4.3 stock rom with the hacked bootloader mj4 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891. So maybe the permissions weren't set right when flashing?

If you go to the web site on your first screen shot
www.samsung.com/us/secureandroid
That reeks of Knox.
And security policy messages/warnings are Knox related.
Go to Settings, find About Phone.
Near the bottom of About Phone ..... What does SELinux status say? Or is there one?
**********************
The ROM you are on is the first one I ever tested the file on.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I think I got it. So you are rooted. Go to apps, open SuperSU. it should prompt you to update. After it does it should ask you to disable Knox.
Ok I went into SuperSU and it asked me to disable knox like you said. After doing that and rebooting, it still says Enforcing under SE for Android. I don't understand the disable know prompt though. I was under the impression that there was no way to disable know so thats why I had to flash the hacked mj4 bootloader. Can you clear this up for me? I am going to try to flash the tetherprovisions again since I am still the error when trying to turn the hotspot on.

I like this app. install it, choose your recovery, and let it do its thing. or you could use Odin, bit this is way quicker.

Get TWRP Coordinator from the google play store, it's a lot better than rom manager and it works perfectly,.;.. (free app)
Give it a try.

Made an account just to reply to this. I was in the same boat, and tried that. Phone rebooted but couldn't take OTA. When it restarted after failed OTA install, went into bootloop. Had to reflash stock through ODIN and problem solved. Sorry man.
So Im running stock recovery and stock rooted 4.4. So that means I either wait for lollipop on Kies or Odin back to stock then take the OTA.

Not sure about this but Odin to stock and taking update will keep all your data if that is what you are worried about. Only issue is you might not be as smooth keeping your settings. I had some fc's and lag. So I reset to factory and restored apps and there was a huge speed and smoothness increase.
Im planning on reseting, trying to maintain setup on a major update always causes lag.
