Since there is no stock Lollipop ROM for this phone, i'm guessing you flashed a Custom ROM. If yes, then the phone will already be rooted. Just enable it under developer settings.

[Q] 4.3 to 4.4.4 rooted

Hi everybody. I've been looking for what should i do, now that the 4.4.4 rolled out, to update my phone without losing the root access. I'm in 4.3 currently, and i did read that been on .283, you can obtain root access by flashing the .230 kernel, rooting, and then installing the .283 kernel again. But my problem with this, is that i don't know exactly what to do to get .283. I have a C6506 generic usa, so i should have the .283 update available via OTA and via PCC, but i'd prefer using OTA (since my PC have some issue i have to fix first), so i guess .283 will appear in the update center after i get to .230.
So, there exist some problem doing this(updating 4.3->4.4.2->4.4.4 via OTA)? Will it crash or anything similar :silly:?
Thanks in advance!
Yeah you have to update to 4.4.2 first for 4.4.4 to appear, I just did the same update line 4.3>4.4.2>4.4 but I went back to 4.3 lol not really liking 4.4.4.
I see...but what about root? You was rooted on 4.3 and then you updated through OTA to 4.4.4? So there is not risk doing this?

Yeah I was rooted and unlocked bootloader, I had to relock my bootloader to update via OTA. You can just reroot when you're on 4.4.4

I was rooted on 4.3. I just used PC companion to 4.4.4. Didn't lose any data.
Then just rerooted 4.4.4.

edit: Oh.
So does that mean that i can update from 4.3 to 4.4 without any problems, even if i am rooted?
That's great news, thank you!

I would only root if there we`re things i could not do without root, if everything works as you need it there is basicaly no need to root .
the phone runs well on the 20F rom imo as is out of the box.

Will I be able to update to Lollipop if I root on KitKat?

Haven't messed with a Android Device in since Jelly Bean and I remember you couldn't update to KitKat if you were rooted with out doing some complicated stuff on other devices, wondering if this would be the case with my Tab S 10.5, since I like to root and disable bloatware and what not.
Also does anyone know any GPE based roms or GPE apps I can flash?
If you are rooted you won't get OTA ,that's the case for tablets and phones .
Is your Tab S 10.5 still running Jelly Bean? I would be happy with that !!!
Remember when you go to Kitkat ,no reverse possible !!! Also remember KitKat don't allow to write to SD card, thats why i wish i was on Jelly Bean.

You can still update to lollipop via downloading the stock firmware from sammobile and flashing it via ODIN but you have to reroot And I'm not sure yet if chainfire has released a root.
Kitkat there is a hack to enable sd card access

If I can correct, Twrp recovery should give you root on lollipop. You just need to flash the update supersu zip in twrp I think.

[Q] Lollipop OTA on rooted tab?

I have a recently purchased T700 that I haven't rooted yet. Sounds like the Lollipop OTA is coming soon and I'm trying to figure out if I should wait to root after the update appears. Does anybody know a good way to take the OTA if you have a rooted device with custom recovery?

And if so what custom kernel is worth flashing to get root? Thanks. Ohhh Im on Android 5.1.1 of course and baseband of OJ6 which is the most up to date.

Try that and let me know if it works...
Note: it will trip Knox...
It does work on OJ6. I rooted mine yesterday after the update. Everything works fine
Hey guys, my last phone was a tmobile device, root and twrp is the norm. Which then I could flash Roms. I saw a twrp is available for us, is this right? Can I flash recovery, and then roms? Or am I missing something? I'm already rooted. I had to root for Sim unlock.
Thanks
