Show notifications even when screen is locked - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have not found a way to show notifications on the lock screen. Just like it does in stock android. Actually, can't do anything when screen is locked. There has to be a way. Also, would like to remove all the ASUS crap! Will probably need to root the device for that.

Works fine on mine.
Under Sound & Notification - When device is locked, I've set it to "show all notification content". I also had to disable "Skip the slide page" under Lock Screen

Thanks. I had to disable "skip the slide page"

Changed mine to pattern lock, and it also works as long as you have "Skip the slide page" disabled.

Yeah its working now :good: I had enabled "Skip the slide page"

There weren't notifications on the lock screen using numbers to unlock the phone until the most recent OTA update. I received an OTA last night (05/31/15) that fixed it.
Now my lock screen shows missed calls, Texts, everything I want it to. I have to swipe at the bottom to unlock, or if I try to view a text/make a call it will prompt me to unlock.

Lock screen shortcut

Hey guys...
Just wanted to post this little find. I haven't seen it posted before, so I apologise if I missed that thread...
Try this...
Open an application with the settings button in the bottom corner.
Switch off screen
Switch on screen
Do you have the settings button in the same corner? Press it... screen unlocks
Shortcut or flaw?

Oh wow, never noticed that before. I can't think of any benefit of it so it likely to be a bug.

The online kitchen over at MoDaCo has an option to disable 'menu key unlock'. I'm assuming this is referring to this issue (if it is an issue) but I may be wrong.

don't get this option. is it something to turn on in Settings?
Did you also notice that you can access the notification bar from the lock screen?
Can't be a feature, surely?

That is actually a feature. Quite useful if you don't have a pattern/pin/face lock setup.

it is most definitely a feature, and was demoed at the first unveiling of the phone back in October.
Ahhhh... so it doesn't work if there is security lock on... I get it.. ty

Can someone explain what the purpose of the settings button is in this context? Is it just another way to unlock the screen? Why does it only appear in the given scenario?
Also, why do the back and home buttons appear when you drag down the notifications bar?
They do not appear to be functional, but can be pressed. I suppose the back button makes sense, as it dismisses the notification panel, but the home button does not appear to be functional.
I opened facebook, the menu button was there. I turned off screen, then turned it back on. the menu button was there on my lock screen but when I pushed it, nothing happened. phone did not unlock. I use pattern unlock.

More than likely, the menu button being on the lock screen is just a glitch that really shouldn't be there. The good news is that if you have a lock other than the slide lock (Pattern, Password, Pin, Face) the the menu button on screen does nothing.
It's already been reported to google as a bug. It only happens if you have an insecure lock method (swipe, or none).

[Q] Now that I've updated to KitKat 4.4.2 - how to get camera widget on lock screen

I updated my AT&T Note II to KitKat 4.4.2 last night, via AT&T OTA update.
According to the new features list, I should now be able to access the camera app from the lock screen, right?
But now joy.
All my Googling thus far indicates that I should first enable lock screen widgets by going to "Settings -> Security", and turn on a check-box for "Enable Widgets". I have no such option, or check-box, on the "Settings -> Security" page. And I no such similar options on the "Settings -> Lock screen" page either.
I've also seen instructions (albeit for other Samsung devices) that seem to indicate that I should first disable (or turn off) the lock screen altogether. In other words, set the lock screen to "None". And then re-enable it. It seems that I can not set the lock screen option to "None", after the KitKat upgrade. In other words, it seems that after the KitKat update, I am now forced to choose either Pin or Password lock screen. I have only two options available on the "Settings -> Lock screen -> Screen lock" page now - Pin, or Password. All other options are gray'd out, saying "Turned off by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage".
Anybody else seeing this after the KitKat upgrade?
Anybody have any hints on how to get the camera, or any other, lock screen widgets to show up on the lock screen?
EDIT: Solution found. See post #11 below

There is no such option on the Settings -> Lock screen -> Lock screen widgets page.
Here is what I see (see attached screen-shots)
1 - The Settings [My device] page

2 - The Settings [My device] -> Lock screen page

Very interesting... your Settings -> Lock screen page looks very different from mine.
In answer to your question... Yes, I took the ota 4.4.2 update last night.
Here is a screen-shot of my Settings -> About device page
And... if I go to the bottom of the Settings -> About device -> Status page, it says "Official"
I wonder what could be causing the difference????

It also looks like you have a Lock screen = Swipe.
That's not even an option on my device (it's gray'd out, and says Turned off by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage).
As shown in the attached screen-shot
I wonder if a security policy of some sort got installed on my device. It's a personal phone (as in not managed by my employer's MDM solution), so I'm not sure how any such policy would have gotten installed. I certainly didn't knowingly do so.

I think I figured out how to re-enable all the screen lock types.
Following the suggestion in this stackexchange thread... I cleared credential storage by going to Settings -> Security -> Clear credentials
Now I'm able to set a screen lock = Swipe
As in, all those screen lock types that were gray'd out are no longer gray'd out.
And I'm finally able to add the Camera widget to the lock screen
Holy crap... what an ordeal that was.
I wonder how the heck my credential storage got dorked.
Oh well... moving on.
Thanks for all your help/suggestions 06Silverado
Having another set of screen-shots to compare/contrast, helped alot.

Camera widget doesn't show
Hi all,
I am having the similar problem here where my camera shortcut on lockscreen doesn't show up
However I am able to choose other lockscreen option such as pattern, pin, password, etc...
I have read the solution given from pdfruth in post #11, but the "clear credential" option is disabled
I just update my note 2 into kitkat 4.4.2 and manage to root successfully
my problem is "shortcut" option is missing so that I cannot have the camera shortcut or other shortcut on my lockscreen
Please assist...

[Q] Double tap to lock screen inside apps.

Hey there. I was wondering if it's possible to double tap to lock screen inside apps? For instance - I'm in a gallery and when I double tap it locks the screen.
The double tap lock screen function works fine when you're on the home screen, but not in any app.
Not that I know of since with Android, the app (activity) that has the focus on the screen accepts all the taps.
You could try swiping down near where the status bar would be to make it appear and then double tap that. That's how I get it to work with Nova launcher. Well, I don't have to swipe down since the status bar is there. I just double tap the status bar to turn off the phone.
I use knock to turn on the phone.
Use it with Nova as well.

There's also a reason they don't have this feature added. What if you were trying to play a game and everytime you tapped the screen too quickly it turned off? Or you were going through some menu fast enough that it registered you tapping two different options as a double-tap. There would have to be some sort of per-app filter like the stock rom has for hiding the nav buttons in certain apps. Not saying this idea couldn't work, because if you or someone else ever gets it working I'd be glad to use it!

That's true, but I was asking the question because when my phone is flat on the table or something with gallery opened, it's uncomfortable to slide your finder to the back of the phone to lock the screen so I wanted to know if there's a chance to lock it with tapping. But when I'm playing games, it's different story - I already have my fingers on the back of the case so it's no longer uncomfortable to lock it.

That's where I'd say swipe down to show the notif bar and then double tap the notif bar. That's what I do so I don't have to pick up the phone to turn off the screen. Then, using a knock pattern, I can turn on and unlock the phone via the knock pattern. Don't have to double tap the phone to wake it up and then unlock it (either via pattern or pin). Instead, with knock, just knock the pattern and it turns on and unlocks all at once. Love it!

Yeah. Like I said previously, I'll be using this method
If you use Xposed and G3 tweakbox, there is an option to double tap the nav bar to lock the screen as well.
This will give you a place at the top and bottom of the display to lock the screen when in an app (or using a launcher replacement).

By default it works on the status bar (top of the screen). The option in G3 tweaksbox allows it to work on the Nav bar (bottom of screen) as well which is not enabled by default.

Oh then it's a nice option to enable then.
I got confused about the nav bar, I thought it was the status bar.
But the tweaksbox requires root which I don't want to do :s.
You don't need to pull down the notification bar at all to double tap to turn the screen off.
You just double tap the very top of the screen where your notification bar would be.

Double tap and lift not working

OK, what am I doing wrong? I had this feature on the g4. I updated to 7.1.1 and the settings are on in moves. I have a notification but double tapping the screen when it is off doesn't do anything.

Lol crap. Set at a half hour before it locks. I guess double tap only works if the screen is locked. On the lg g4 you could use it any time to turn on the phone

Lock Screen Is Bypassed With Ambient Display On

I have been having an issue for awhile that is driving me crazy. I have my screen lock set to swipe with Ambient Display set to on and Double Tap to check phone enabled. On occasion, I can double tap to wake the phone or push the power button when the Ambient Display is showing and the lock screen is bypassed and the Home Screen is displayed. I have tried to go to Settings/Security & location/Advanced and Clear Credentials, followed by a reboot. It solves the issue for awhile but then it returns. Sometimes it is several days and sometimes it is within several hours. Anyone else have this issue? If so did you figure out a fix? Thanks

When you choose "swipe", it disables your lock screen.
Try this: choose password/pin/pattern for your lockscreen. Add a fingerprint too. Then go back to settings and choose swipe. You'll get a warning that you are disabling device protection and removing security for it.

Thanks. It looks like swipe is actually a choice for the lock screen . I have been using it for about a year. None is the choice if you want to bypass it. I did try what you suggested and it worked for a day, but then it reverted back to bypassing again. Thanks again
