Anyone try LG Backup to move from a non-LG phone? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Gonna be moving stuff from the One M8 to the G4 and I was wondering if LG's backup software was any good. HTC's worked perfectly when moving to it!

Used it to transfer from an S6. Took all night and couldn't turn the screen off at all one it started processing the transferred data but it seems to have worked. When I woke this morning the screen was still on and I had to press a button to finish the progress and go back to normal.

Tried it from my M9 and all it seems to want to transfer is call logs and messages, no apps.

I guess I'll give it another shot. I haven't used it for several years, maybe it's gotten better.

I used it from a Sony z2 and it worked really good.
It transfered call logs, sms. Tbh I don't know if it transfered anything else.

Between Lollipop's transfer and LG Backup everything came over smoothly from the M8. Didn't take long either, surprisingly. One thing that was interesting was I was at home and the phones found each other via Wifi, even though it said it was Wifi Direct. When I left the house the phones stopped transferring. I reconnected (took a few tries) and then it truly made a wifi direct connection and went a lot faster.

latest HTC update CRAP

Damn, sorry but i'm a little pissed right now.
I would like to ask any of you fellows if the latest offcial update had any bad effects on your device ?
I have random crashes. When i try to restart it i get the white stupid HTC screen and nothing happens for a while then it restarts again from that point.
If i let it like that it will do this for about 10-15 mins. then it will eventually start.
(Ok, i just noticed that it isnt charging anymore...and when i try to unlock the screen it will turn it off.)
(After a couple of reboots it is charging again)
ffs !!!
Footnote.
I am running a standard Desire, not rooted, very few apps, no task killer.
What to do now ?
Well, now i go to work tomorrow like an idiot and will be nice with every one of my colleagues laughin at me.
YOu know, when all your colleagues use their company iPhones and you try to prove how awesome your Android is and after a couple of weeks your phones doesnt work anymore ppl will laugh at you.
So in the end i think, millions of ppl around the world should not be wrong after all.
make a gold card and flash the full generic ROM to your phone
if that doesn't work then you need to return it
No problem here works fine if not slightly better. The problem with forums is that people generally only post problems. I've seen many other posts with people reporting no issues on stock device. Could be due to an app you have.

That's a good point.
Be a good chap Krpano and post your applist
Well, thanks for the fast feedback and sorry if i am a bit harsh.
But i actually avoid rooting/flashing to skip any kind of problems.
I just want the phone to work.
I depend on my phone when i am working.

The point is, the phone was working properly till the update.
I updated my phone yesterday as well with the OTA update. Now my phone discharges from 100% to 93% instantly from taking it off charge. I know this is an on going problem that has been happening to people since the phones launch, but mine was fine, it never did that until today.. the first time I charged it since I did the update. Coincidence? Somehow I think not
I guess the first thing to do would be a factory reset.
I have the latest update on my Desire and everything works great, certain things are better.
I'll give it a hard reset tonight when I have the time to put all the settings back to how I want. I don't want to loose all my save data on some of my games though, like totemic.. I wont play it again if I have to some of those levels again lol
My phone has just shut down by itself and the only way I was able to start it was by pulling the battery. I have the phone for some time and it's the first time something like this has happened so it has to be because of the update. Also, right after the update some of my widgets (Messages and Wi-Fi) were gone! Battery life seems worse.
I had a few problems when i updated too. but a factory reset made everithing work like a charm. (unrooted)

Bad idea there... You're going to have issues with returning it after flashing a generic ROM...
Have any of the networks actually rolled out this update?
I agree with the battery life being A LOT worse after the update. And I did flash the whole generic Rom onto it. My battery life was amazing before the update. I think it must be something to do with the radio, as they changed it in the update. Gutted now as I can't downgrade again either.

You can flash an older radio without changing the rom, but I think it you need to root first.
My battery life is awesome on this rom. My phones been off charge for 15 hours and its at about 70% now. Any other rom I've used previously custom or stock have given me far worse results.
Interesting to see how there is such a mixed bag of results.
Hi, after I updated OTA I lost WiFi after a couple of days, not immediately... I read here that removing battery helps so I did it. The problem is gone (for now at least)
But I don't want to remove the battery every few days.

Well, just did a hard reset.
The phone wasn't turning on anymore.
It doesn't seem to work better either.
I still get the white startup screen and thats it.
No access to the phone, occasionally after a few tries it will login.
Really disappointed.

Does anyone have any info about the causes of random rebooting?

My VZW Nexus has been randomly rebooting on its own. On top of the data drops I've been getting, I find myself wanting to use the phone for skeet shooting. I had the problem intermittently with my R2D2 D2 on VZW but I thought it might be several months of abuse that caused this. 3 weeks after I got my Nexus, it started doing it, too. I hadn't dropped it or used it as a coaster, hockey puck or projectile weapon like my Droids. I couldn't see the connection. My Droid and Xoom never did this. The damnable Nexus and R2D2 D2 seemed to be unable to go 48 hours without rebooting at some inconvenient time. I thought I would be safer with the Nexus because its supposed to be a pure Android device (the D2 is a Motorola crapstravaganza.) Still rebooting...
It had to be something I was putting on it so I looked at what the newer phones had installed and pared it down to what the D1 was running. It still rebooted. So then I looked at what was missing between the tablet and the D1. It was Handcent. VZW doesn't support SMS on the Xoom, you have to use the internet and not whatever the SMS protocol is on VZW. It still isn't solved because my husband has Handcent installed and his phone doesn't do that. When I installed everything that was crucial to me (about 40 apps) it worked fine for 3 weeks straight. I installed Handcent, within 12 hours it started rebooting again. I had to factory reset it again to get it to stop. I've now installed everything I had on it before except Handcent. My husband never configured Handcent to the extent that I had (my most oft used contacts had their own notification tone, indicator light color, even light blink rate.)
Is anyone else using Handcent or are you using a different robust messaging client? Has anyone been able to narrow down things that interfere with Android versions Gingerbread and higher to the point that they'll reboot like that? I am still not 100% sure that Handcent is the problem but circumstantial evidence makes me think I might have found the culprit.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
It sounds like it could be a memory leak for whatever reason that is causing the phone to reboot.. if it is Handcent, at least.
Do you know of any tools that I could use to test something like that. Does app memory usage get logged anywhere?

I honestly have no idea :/ do you have a lot of messages that need to be loaded? My friend used to use Handcent on his Droid Incredible, and after a while his phone slowed down due to all of the messages. I went in to delete the larger threads and the phone hung and got caught in a bootloop. Other than that and your story though, I've never heard of this before.

Transferring data from one phone to the M8

Is anyone else having issues transferring data from their old phone?
At first, I thought that HTC sync would work, it looked like it was at least, but it failed to transfer my messages and some images and videos.
I was trying to connect both of my phones to a laptop and transfer the data over like that, but I can't seem to find an option to have the M8 turn on USB mass storage, and when I use HTC's option of browsing the folder, it seems to disconnect after 5 minutes, stopping the transfer.
I really am trying to prevent myself from rooting it, at least for a week, but I'm not used to being locked down like this. What do you guys use?
(Coming from an HTC ONE S running latest CM nightly)
HTC transfer failed with my messages too. Used easy back up from the play store

Maybe it's your other phone? I transferred from an LG G2 and it worked flawlessly.

I used Titanium Backup to move my Messages across from my Note 3. I was shocked they came across. It worked with all my apps too, I just had to make sure not to restore any system apps and google apps.
Maybe that'll help for you guys.
I've been piecemeal restoring data from my Titanium Backup and it's worked like a charm.
Easy Backup worked like a charm!
I also use TB for my apps and data. Was going to give it a week before rooting, but eh, I got bored.
Now if I could figure out how to get quick settings on the notification drawer, and disable that annoying keyboard icon (I installed SwiftKey) when ever I use my keyboard. I would be nice to be able to customize my notification area too. Just reminds me of all of the nice stuff form CM that I'm missing.

[SOLVED] M9 seems slow? [UPDATE] Wifi possibly my issue??

[SOLVED]
As I mentioned a few times in this thread, I was going to get a new wifi router and try it...... Well, the new wifi router fixed the issue.
All my apps that require a data connection (FB, CL, Weather, Instagram, ect...) all work blazing fast now.
Not sure why my wife's "Apple" stuff wasn't having any issues with it, maybe because it was an Apple AirPort router?? Either way, I'm now getting 80-104mb/s down and 25mb/s up.
_______________________________
Now for my original post - below.
_______________________________
I just upgraded from the M8 to the M9........ On At&t
When I first got the M9 and booted it up (first boot), it zipped through all 180-ish of the apps in about 2 minutes and I thought "WOW, this is much faster!
Last night I unlocked, S-OFF and rooted it...Of course, it reset the stock ROM when I unlocked the bootloader, but that still only took about 2 minutes to run through all the apps....I then flashed some ROM's to try on it.. Each time they would go through their first boot, it took about 20-30 minutes (for less apps). I've since tried a few other ROMs and get the same results, it takes a good 20-30 minutes. That's about how long my M8 took. But still NO WHERE NEAR as fast as the first boot when it was stock.
After the boot, and I restore all my apps form the Play store, it seems to take an exceptional amount of time for each app to re-install too... Not download, but install. For example, it just sat on "Installing" Google Maps for over 7 minutes before I stopped the Play store....Then went to my next app, downloaded it and took 4 minutes to install a 7mb app.
Did I get a bad phone?? Or maybe have done something wrong in my root process? This is the 8th or 9th phone I've rooted and I've also rooted several tablets, so I'm not a total nOoB. Maybe a bum firmware?
{UPDATE} I'll post below too, to bump this thread.
So, after basically being couped up in the house since I've had the phone, I went out and did my normal Wednesday thing (bowling), in a different city with pretty good LTE... My phone was FLYING fast on just about everything.
When I came home and connected to my home wifi, things all got really SLOW again. I thought it might be my Firmware (latest Developers 2.8.617.4, so I flashed it agian with no change.... I then flashed the most recent International tw (2.7.xxx.x) and I get the same super slow results. It takes almost 2 minutes to connect to SpeedTest.net with the app and I have 100mb down and 20mb up internet and I'm lucky to get 10 up and 1 down.
My wife's iPhone has no issues and gets 60+mb down and 17 up.... So, something is going on with my M9 and either the way it's talking to the router or something is corrupt?
I opened the Play Store and let it sit for a good 45 seconds, and none of the icon's would load (see pic), it only usually does that when I've got really week signal.
Gonna check my works wifi tomorrow to make sure it's nothing with my wifi or router, but everything else is running smooth (Both ROKU's, X-Box, iPhone, iPad and my songs M7).
To restore apps use titanium, not only will you get the data to them but it's faster and doesn't need the internet.
As for the indexing at the start of a ROM flash, I think thats to do with the OS indexing the apps. Also I think odex vs deodex, one takes longer than the other, could be why it's taking longer to install some apps.
As for 7 minutes for an app is not right.

Not the phone. That's the nature of custom roms. It takes a lot longer in optimize apps, but they'll run faster once optimized.
Might try rebooting for the slow play store apps installing slowly.
One thing I have noticed with the m9, especially in the XDA premium app, first try at clicking on a link for the first time will take a long time to load, click back and reload it, its possible that the play store may be the same, cancel the download and restart it. 7 minutes is not right by a long shot.

Using LTE, it's lightning fast (when the signal is good). Heck, even when it's a weak signal (5mbs), it's still better than my home wifi.
I'm trying a different wifi router tonight, just to rule that out. I'll see if that renders any issues.

Funny how it went "on the fritz" the same day I come home with a new phone?

LG G3 D851 T-Mobile Marshmallow update ruined my phone!!

3rd worst mistake of my life... (don't ask)
LG G3 D851 was working just fine until I "upgraded" to 6.0 Marshmallow.
After Android 6.0 update OTA via T-Mobile, phone calls were terminating quickly and then got to the point where they didn't work at all. I used Google Voice almost exclusively, but problems were occurring for T-Mobile direct calls, too.
The phone call issue seemed to grow, and the update then ruined my battery from boot looping.
At my wits end, I did a hard reset (btw, is there any way to save app preferences and restore them) and it seemed to work ok on AC power ONLY. If I unplugged it, it went right back into boot loop, even though my battery was showing 100%. I know it was my battery, because I tried a friend's battery and it worked ok.
So I slowly installed more apps, and finally got a new battery, so I could use it without being plugged into AC. Things seemed ok for a couple days, then today the same phone call problems and freezing were back again!
Occurred after updating eBay app, but have no idea if that was the culprit, because I have all apps set to update automatically on WiFi (probably not a smart idea).
Did the Google Voice trick (remove app from phone, then go to PC and remove real number from GV list on PC, then go back to phone, reinstall GV app and have GV find my real T-Mobile number automatically and add the number from the handset), but 'unable to complete phone call problem' is back on GV or the T-Mobile network.
Super frustrated and angry. Nice effing "update!" Everything is stock, not even rooted...
Any known app conflicts on D851 running Marshmallow?? Ideas?
I'm thinking another hard reset, but would love to save all my app preferences to restore them (doesn't seem to work on LG PC Suite, which is what I used for backup last time).
TIA.

Can you point out any link for the downgrade tutorial please?
@healthylaff, probably don't want to hear this but...
If you were previously rooted, the #1 rule is, was, and always will be Never Accept OTAs! For any number of reasons, some of which you've experienced.
You can go back to LP or start off again with MM since it looks like you'll be starting from scratch.
Main irk I have with MM is the change in storage paths. That breaks or hampers a few things. Enough that I can't/won't use MM as my primary environment. Still continue to test/run them though. Anyway...
The 30D stock ROM has been available for some time now. Installable via different methods. Check it out.
