Google voice outgoing not working - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Google voice outgoing is not working with Zenfone 2 dialer. I have configured google voice app to always dial via this app, but call always goes directly. Tried with both sim slots.
Any one facing the same issue?

Google voice app or google hangouts app?
Posted using my phone.

mine also doenst work, even when i tell google voice to always dial from that number using the dialer. i have tried two different dialers and neither of them use the google voice number.

When you click on the little phone icon on the top right side it lets you pick between data OR cellular network when you click on the contact or type a number.

Same issue for me. It has been reported to Asus, hopefully they fix it quickly. If not, I will return the phone.

[Q] Anyone know how to set up ATT Visual Voice Mail?

Right out of the box?
AT&T needs to turn it on first.
Start app.
It will call your voice mail.
then enter pin.

Okay, so when I activate my device, do I need to call ATT to turn it on?
I thought its a paid feature? Just use Google Voice instead
Google Voice did not seem to be working on my phone. Anyone able to get it working on theirs, or is there some issue with Google Voice and the S3 for now?
AT&T Messages
you need to get AT&T Messages from the Google Play Store you will get all you message, Voicemail, and calls in one spot.
From the main/home screen go two screens to the left and click on the AT&T Messages icon. It will walk you through the setup as mentioned above. I believe it specifically states the service is free (as it should be).
Now my question is why didn't they put this on the main/home screen? Why not make it the default? Who wouldn't want VVM?

There is already a thread about google voice's voice mail. You just have to dial a number to activate it. On mine it still says Carrier Voice mail, but my missed calls actually go to google's voice mail.
I went to the Play Store and downloaded AT&T's Visual Voicemail app. That worked well.

OK so we have two choices for VVM. Does anyone have enough experience to compare the pros and cons of each?

Visual Voice mail is great for voice mail. Really nice app. Love it.
AT&T messages combines text, voice mail, ect. rendering your regular messaging app useless or getting double notifications, and you can't turn them off from the at&t app. (it is basically the devil. And I made just to disable it as soon as I got the phone.)

I'm pretty unimpressed with this. I don't know why, but it bugs me to have to manually type in my google VM number to each forward field.

that's why you call the # code.
art vvm app is OK, but Google voice has a cleaner look and operation. neither is intuitive to set up though so read the directions.
att messages is terrible and should be disabled or uninstalled or nuked from orbit.
No matter what I do I can't get att visual voicemail to work. The app tells me that it is has not received a response from att. I've called att and my account is set up correctly but the app still doesn't work so I just gave up and use YouMail.

Google Now - Text with Google Voice app?

I would love a way for this to be done. I use GV for texting all of the time, and this would give my N7 full texting capability. I would love to be able to send text by voice through Google Now while I'm driving.
Any thoughts?
Thanks guys.

Hm, I wonder if I can hack mine up somehow to do it.
Try this
I text using my N7 all day. This is how I do it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDMsImNvbS5rb3VzaGlrZHV0dGEuZGVza3RvcHNtcyJd
It isn't Google Voice, but it works great anyway. Set it up on your Android phone and set it to Google Talk. Then you can text via GT all day long.

There has got to be a voice command for it?? Have you seen a list of commands that Google Now recognizes? I thought I saw one at some point, but I have no idea where.

Hi cushcalc. Thanks for the suggestion, but this doesn't have anything to do with what I'm asking for either . I understand the confusion, and I've tried to think of a way to word it differently to make it more clear, but I don't think I can. I believe that most people will just automatically jump to "oh, he wants to text with his N7!"
Thanks anyway .
You can text message via Google Voice from Google Now just by using the standard voice commands "Text Adam Hey" and it will text Adam the message "Hey" all you have to do is set Google Voice as your default SMS client. or just remove the stock messaging app as your default and it will ask you which to use each time. Settings > applications > messaging > clear defaults.

This is exactly what I hoped it would do, because this is how it works on the GNex right now on JB. But if you ask Google Now to text on the N7, it just tells you that it can't do it.

That has to be a development oversight... you'd think that that functionality would be built in. It should be for the N7 anyway.
There's got to be a trick to make it work... and I am curious to find out what it is.

Interesting, sorry for the false information then. My N7 is back at home and I just tested it on my GN real quick before posting that. I, just like you did, assumed it would be the same. That is VERY annoying indeed. almost as annoying as not being able to long press for numbers on the N7 keyboard for no apparent reason at all!!!

Agreed! I really feel like it's an oversight, but I'm baffled that it wasn't thought of beforehand. I was anticipating this feature before they were shipped.

Wow this app is awesome. I was using Textab but this is even better. Not having to have a bluetooth connection is nice.
Yeah it's like they replaced Google voice with a gimped down version and gave us Google now.
Google now doesn't allow me to text and the interface doesn't seem fluid, by that I mean it should be more integrated and have more options.
This thread should have more attention

FY*I, there is the app in the android market call Googlve voice integration. It allows you to send SMS on your normal messaging app, through google voice. So all texts get delivered to your messaging app.
In theory, when google now sends a text, you can have it send through the normal messaging app, which this app would then send through google voice.
However, I've used the pro version, the full integration version, on CM10 with google now trying to do this, and it doesn't work. The integration app doesn't seem to catch the text being sent, and it gets sent through your carrier's number. But considering it is catching all other texts, I imagine that a small tweak would fix it.

Im confused. I use Google Voice for my voice mail. I set it up through my account on-line. So if I dont answer a call..it goes to Google Voice . Then I get a text with the transcript or i open google voice app and get my VM. Unless you guys are talking about something different.

I don't use my GV number as my main number. I still use my regular cell number. There is supposed to be a way where google voicemail will pick up your REGULAR cell calls instead of the att voicemail.
EDIT:
I just followed the instructions here: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/voice/P2zifCPaYJE from Fluididdy and it worked. I had to change my phone to MOBILE (I had it to "home" as I was sharing it with another voice number). It's working now!

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you would choose to use Verizon Visual Voicemail over Google Voice Lite (that works with your carrier's phone# - without requiring you to use your GV#)?

I'm curious if it will work with Google Voice Lite without the Google Voice App. Having to use the app does get irritating when it stops running in background and causes delayed notification if you don't have Text or Email notification active. Also it does seem the app doesn't get updated much.
I have missed important messages in the past and now I check the Google Voice app at least once a day to make sure it had not stopped.

I haven't used the GV app on my phone in months (or over a year now) - had to check to see if it was still there To be honest, I don't think it is needed after the initial set up.
I get my notifications via an Email from GV to my mailbox, with the transcriptions and link to message - I also get a text message sent to my GV#, which results in a SMS on hangouts app.

Thanks for the reply but like I said before if you have Text and EMail notification turn off you just get a voicemail notification from native app and could use native app to check. But if the Google Voice App stops you don't get the Notification because messages do not sync with the native app.
Text and Email notification (icon) if you have a lot notification do not standout as much as the voicemail notification (icon). Would be much easier if Google would include Google Voice Lite in the native app without having the separate app for syncing.
Transcription has never worked well for me because everyone beside Robo spam that leave me a message have Spanish accents. (Funny to read and trying to guess what they really said) Google Voice Lite app has the transcription but would be better in native app.

Understood. I don't use the native app for voicemail notification, so I never ran into this issue. I just rely on the hangouts notification. Thanks for the clarification

Visual Voicemail

Is anyone else having problems getting the native visual voicemail in the dailer to activate? I'm on T-Mobile and so far I've tried everything I can think of and the visual voicemail just won't activate.
Uninstall T-mobile's visual voicemail
Uninstall T-mobile's visual voicemail/ or any other visual voicemail app. When you open up the phone app it should pop up, you may have to reboot after uninstalling those apps but thats what it was for me.

T-Mo seems to be working on things regarding VM. I received this text today.
wait... u can get voicemail in the phoneapp again? i thought that ended a while back... i was installing an old version of google voice for a whle to keep it in the phone app...
so, if i uninstall google voice i can get voicemail in the phone app? or do i have to go through this process?:
1. Uninstall the newer Google Voice (temporarily). Prior to uninstalling, I wipe the app's Cache and Data too as a precaution, so I can't report on the results of following these steps without doing that.
2. Go to the APKMirror website and download the latest Google Voice v4.x APK, something like v4.7.10.
3. With Unknown Sources checked in the Security Settings on your phone, install and fully setup the old Google Voice version, including setting your Phone app to use Google Voice for voicemails.
4. Once it's all setup, you can update Google Voice to your heart's content. Note that if you go into the Phone Voicemail settings you'll see that it still doesn't give you an option to select Google Voice, but you'll also notice that it appears as if the only setting it now shows (Carrier) is not selected either, so the setting is retained even though you can't select it with the newer Google Voice installed.
5. Re-disable "Unknown Sources" if you wish.
Whats the problem?
i cant get it to work on att, but i dont think it ever did. i was able to get the visual voicemail in the phone app, but not with a transcript... but i have to use the old google voice app. make sure to set te old google voice to use phone app for voicemail. when i updated google voice it stopped updating voicemails in the phone app, so i guess ill just keep the old google voice app.

Are you on Tmobile? If so, do you have voice to text add-on on your account?
Trying to figure out what the issue is because nothing seems to work for me.
Make sure that your phone is not forwarded to another messaging service. If you ever tried another voice messaging app, sometimes they do this automatically. If you forget to undo it then you will not receive voice messages. You can bring your messages back by disabling call forwarding. To do this, call ##004# for Tmo/Att or ##002# as a generic default that should work for all other US carriers. Verizon should be *73 and Sprint *730 .

On built in visual voicemail the transcription is done through Google and so you shouldn't need the T-Mobile add on any more, saves $4 a month.
