So I was using my S6 today and noticed the screen was toggling between full bright (auto dim off) and a much brighter mode when in direct shot of the sun. Surprisingly, I could still read it! It looked great.
What is this called and is there a way to control it being on or off all the time? I'd like it on driving.
I don't think u can control that

The first time that happened with my Note 4 I thought I broke it. But it's automatic. No setting for it.
Is there an app that I can automate to essentially override the light sensor data? That'd be a dirty way of controlling this.

Has anyone noticed stock auto brightness is equal to the LOW setting? The only thing it does, whether it's a dark room or bright room is flip the brightness to LOW.

I don't have a case yet.
I agree that auto-brightness is too low. I manually set the brightness.
I agree the auto brightness is pretty low. However I like it, and it saves battery.

The auto brightness is to high for me too. In low light conditions if I turn off the auto setting I can force the screen lower.

I notice when the screen dims especially on auto dim that the screen flickers or strobes like the tail lights on cadillacs, I cant read any thing easily. The best way to see it is to quickly scan from the top of the screen to the bottom or vise versa in a dimly lit room, you will see a stepped image.
That's why I haven't used stock auto-brightness since my last HTC phone. I've used third party apps to control my brightness, since I had the original Note. Lux is my favorite. So much control over the brightness settings. You can control the lowest brightness setting the phone will hit in addition to numerous other variables. Works really well for me.
Mine works flawlessly. It usually is set at the lowest setting until needed to be boosted.
This gorgeous screen still suffers from being too damn bright in the dark! Needs a filter on it so your retinas don't burn in the dark.

I had to use lux auto brightness to lower mine it was very bright. You might want to use it to increase yours if it's low .
Hi All,
Is there anyway to adjust the 4 brightness levels of the brightness toggle? One of my toggles is set to 0 or 1. My baby was playing with my phone and the screen went black. I thought he had screwed my phone so I ended up LNGPST back to ZVC. Didn't help. Couldn't figure it out. Finally, I tilted my phone at a certain angle and could just barely see an outline of a box. I realized the brightness was all the way down. Unfortunately, I couldn't see enough to turn it back up (even in pitch black room) but I pulled down the notification area and haphazardly was clicking on the screen until it turned up.
Anyways, I would like to adjust the minimum brightness toggle so I don't have to do that again. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Are you using stock?

I am trying to use facer with ambient mode on but am only getting a black screen as if ambient mode is off...
You may have to edit the face. Each layer should have a displayed when screen dim setting. Make sure each layer is checked.

I see, thanks.
Are there any apps or hack to further reduce the minimum brightness? I have it set to 1 but I know it goes dimmer. Just before the screen timeouts it goes into some kind of ultra minimum brightness. I work at night and drive at night and I don't need the bright screen coming on during every left turn. I can now put it into theatre mode, which I do, but then I lose vibrations for notifications too.
You can with mini launcher if you swipe twice there is a brightness slider. Problem is there is a massive jump in brightness, its too low for me.

Yes, this is what I wanted, thank you!
Can you confirm better battery life after this?

Hi,
is there any way to lower the 'touch key' brightness? For me, the keys are too bright at the moment when using the tablet in the evening and I haven't found a solution yet. I deactivated the lighting but I'm not very happy with that, too.
Thank you in advance
There's a free app in market called night mode,That works good and another app called lux auto brightness. That gets screen really dim also.Let me know if one of those 2 work.I have another one also but don't remember the name.
