Hey everyone,
Hope you all are enjoying the wp7 experience. i know i am! This may be a noob question but after you pin the pictures app to the start screen, there is a picture that automatically populates it. How do you change that to a specific picture? i cant seem to find out how? thanks,
it doesn't allow you to select what picture you want, but it changes on its own every so often (not sure what the interval is, but i think its in terms of days), to a different picture in your gallery.

To change the picture on the picture tile on Home page, Tap Pictures tile, scroll to Pictures hub then hold your finger somewhere above the pics & a context menu will appear. Select 'Change background' & then select the pic you want to use. This changes the tile & the pic is also used as the background for the Pictures hub. Cool eh!!!

I'd love to help, but you be a little more clearer on exactly what is going on?
oh sorry , here goes ive put some pictures from my pc to my wp7, when i go to pictures and try to change the background i select one of my own pics that i have transferred from my pic. the background changes but it looks a little blurry and not as sharp as it should be, the same then applies to the pictures tile, its no longer as sharp as it was.
I know exactly what you mean. I accidentally formatted my phone using Mac connect and deleted my original sample photos from WP7. To change the background photo of the live tile and to make it not blurry, you need to use an image with big dimensions, somewhere along the lines of 1920x1200 or better. The picture tile image can be in widescreen or fullscreen but fullscreen mode is the correct resoluytion.
for contacts tile google contacts produce low resolutions automatically. If you want a higher resolution just create a new contact under windows live and the contact photo you use will not appear pixelated.
I hope that helps. Also if you wouldnt mind, could you attach the photo of the white dandelions/field from the original sample photos that came preinstalled on your phone? I would love to reset my pictures tile tothat photo but can't find it anywhere and I don't feel like factory resetting my phone to get it back.
thanks
Can you plz post screen shot or some pic of the blurry tiles?
ok.. so basically.. in order to get a crisp and sharp picture to appear on the live tile... then it has to be a big sized picture?? why wont 480x800 work?? that's the dimension of the phone??
and also.. how do you set or choose which photo appears in the tile?? is there a way to just have it constantly changing?? i think that would be pretty cool
thanks for the info, ill try it out.
to change the picture of the photo tile, after you open it, slide to the pictures hub, press hold anywhere on the background and it will pop up with two menu items : change background and change it for me.
from there you can choose a photo
I do not know why the normal phone resolution doesn't look as clear. This is just from my experience.
*EDIT*
as you can see, the photo you attached for me has a higher resolution than the phone's 480x800.
When you copy a picture to the phone, it is resized to 720x540 by the phone. This happens if you use Zune, email it to yourself, or use Skydrive to store it. This will be why it doesn't look as good as it should in the background.
I had a discussion with WinPhoneSupport on twitter, and they told me that was the maximum resolution for pictures on the phone.
It's one of the first things I've found on WP7 that irritates me. Fortunately, it doesn't irritate me too much and I still love the phone . However, if pics are important to you, I can understand the frustrations.
Has anyone found a way around this? This is driving me crazy
It's actually idiotic policy to do that.

I wrote about this here: http://wpcentral.com/tip-get-high-res-photos-contacts-your-wp7-device
Basically, if you use Live, sync a high res photo to that linked account with your contact.
It's basically a Google thing--they downsize the photo. Microsoft Live does not. You can use both services, linked, for each contact. I did this for my Pinned contacts and they are all high rez and stay that way, thankfully.
Trust me, on Android, contact photos look just a crappy as they do when you sync Google to WP7.

This I'm aware of, I have moved all my contacts from Google to live. Since Live now offers exchange support, all is well
But here we are talking about the Picture tile (not the contacts)
If you edit the contact you can change the picture there. If you have linked your contact from different accounts (eg live, facebook) you can choose which picture to take for that contact. Usually there is one that is sharp. After that your Tile should have the crisp pic on it. I had blurry pics too when I synced the first time...
I googled it and couldn't find the answer. Tried the HTC website and certain pages of the support area error out. Does anyone know how to add a stamp to an already taken pic and how to set it so that it date/time stamps pics automatically when taken?
there is no inbuilt way ... you need seperate app like this one -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ascendapps.cameratimestamp.pro

Thanks. You're right. I chatted with HTC support. I find it hard to believe! Why would something so basic be left out?
if you look at properties of the photo taken there is meta data that shows the date and time it was taken along with other info.
Auto Stamperâ„¢: Timestamp Camera App for Photos
Want to add date and time stamp pics while clicking it?
Try out "Auto Stamper" app which has "Date and Time Stamp" as a prime feature. You can easily customize the date and time stamp text with various formats, size, color and positions as per your preference and add it to your photo.
Auto Stamper is a camera app due to which date and time stamp will be added at the very moment photos are captured with your phone camera.[/QUOTE]
So with portrait mode on the Pixel 2 it saves 2 images for every pic taken in portrait mode. Is there a way to stop that and only have it save the bokeh picture. I don't need the other picture taking up space.
while viewing the picture in the photos app. you'll see 2 mini thumbnails at the bottom center of the picture. one is your orig, one has the blurred background.
swipe the thumbnails to the right to view the original picture, and then press the 3 vertical dots at the top right > delete. you'll be prompted to delete the current photo or both photos. this option only deletes the picture(s) from your device and leaves it on the cloud.
if you want to delete it from the cloud and from the device then select the trash can icon on the bottom right, and it will ask you if you want to delete the current photo or both.
as for stopping it completely, i dont think that is an option, not that i have seen anyway
The third button from the right let's to save pick which photo to save or show as the main photo in the gallery.
I think OP was looking for a way to not have to manually delete every non portrait version.
As someone who takes a **** ton (100+ average) of portrait photos of dogs at my work each day, I see why OP is asking.
There's no such thing as photos taking up space on pixels... that's sort of the point
Portrait photos actually take up less space than regular ones. They seem to average about 2 MB for blurred and 2 MB for unblurred. So that's 4 MB total. Regular photos are ranging 4-7 MBs for me.
i am facing this weird issue where only the normal pic is getting saved not the one with the bokeh effect. i tried many versions of g cam but no result.. any solution so that i can save the potrait pic?
If you have Tasker or are willing to purchase it, you can do a shell command to automate this for you. This is exactly what I have done.
Every time I open my file manager app, a shell command will find the regular image and delete it.
plz you need to help me guys!
after i bought my pixel the photos app was very bad
every time i delete 1 photo i dont see the photo before its just make big mess it jump between photos sometimes take few sec to move the pictures from 1 to another
i update to android 13 (very very stable ) and the same ****ty photos app why its broken
even when i take picture sometimes it show the picture i took before then it jump to the current picture wtf?????
any fix or other great gallery like samsung that is free without ad?
I think you are describing the fact that you cannot scroll past the photos that were just taken when viewing photos from the shortcut at the bottom-right corner of the display whilst in the Google Camera app.
This restriction only occurs when you are navigating into the camera app from the lock screen. This is done for security reasons so that some random stranger/theft who stole a phone whom cannot unlock said phone cannot view all of the pictures on that device.
There are two ways to view all of your pictures:
1. Unlock your phone and then enter the Google Camera app. Then click the photos shortcut at the bottom-right corner of the display.
2. Unlock your phone and then open the Google Photos app.
