So with portrait mode on the Pixel 2 it saves 2 images for every pic taken in portrait mode. Is there a way to stop that and only have it save the bokeh picture. I don't need the other picture taking up space.
while viewing the picture in the photos app. you'll see 2 mini thumbnails at the bottom center of the picture. one is your orig, one has the blurred background.
swipe the thumbnails to the right to view the original picture, and then press the 3 vertical dots at the top right > delete. you'll be prompted to delete the current photo or both photos. this option only deletes the picture(s) from your device and leaves it on the cloud.
if you want to delete it from the cloud and from the device then select the trash can icon on the bottom right, and it will ask you if you want to delete the current photo or both.
as for stopping it completely, i dont think that is an option, not that i have seen anyway
The third button from the right let's to save pick which photo to save or show as the main photo in the gallery.
I think OP was looking for a way to not have to manually delete every non portrait version.
As someone who takes a **** ton (100+ average) of portrait photos of dogs at my work each day, I see why OP is asking.
There's no such thing as photos taking up space on pixels... that's sort of the point
Portrait photos actually take up less space than regular ones. They seem to average about 2 MB for blurred and 2 MB for unblurred. So that's 4 MB total. Regular photos are ranging 4-7 MBs for me.
i am facing this weird issue where only the normal pic is getting saved not the one with the bokeh effect. i tried many versions of g cam but no result.. any solution so that i can save the potrait pic?
If you have Tasker or are willing to purchase it, you can do a shell command to automate this for you. This is exactly what I have done.
Every time I open my file manager app, a shell command will find the regular image and delete it.

I got this device a week ago and loving it but has anyone else encountered this problem? I just noticed it and its rather annoying. The pic i was trying to use was taken with the camera and pic was not blurry when viewed in albums. I've also taking pic in lowest resolution but still came out blurry on caller id. Help anyone?
yes, I have this problem too, would love to see a solution ... ?
did you sync with activesync? I have a feeling activesync reencodes the jpeg.
So this is what happens - and this happens every time I put a new ROM or change phones
1. I always synch with Activesync, so the pictures are kept in my Outlook.
2. When I sync the pictures are blurry. If I put a new picture in Outlook, it still comes blurry on my phone.
3. If I put a new picture on my phone and then sync, then - all is fine - pictures are sharp and crisp and they stay like that until I put a new ROM and have to sync from scratch
There is something fishy in the way outlook stores these pictures may be.
does anyone have a fix for this???
That happened to me with the stock rom but when I switched to one with Manila 2.5, they're more clearer because it doesn't use the flipping notebook layout of the older style.
I would rather not flash a new rom to this phone... Is there a cab file out there that can fix this?
I had this problem on my Diamond
What you need to do is go to the people screen in touchflo and add the contact pictures from there, and it saves them as high res and will then sync them as normal
If you add your contact pictures from the outlook contacts program or from Outlook on your PC, then they are saved at a lower res
So I save the pictures to the memory card and then in the People tab, add the picture from there?
Blurry Fav Pics
Well as long as you add the pic to the contact from the People area of the touchFlo, you will be able to pic a section of the pic, (crop it), which then keeps it high res... I had the same problem too... I dont know if you have t-mobile, but it is kind of the same concept as the myfaves icons...
Yes, I think I read somewhere that if you save your contact pictures to msd card, it'll be higher res.
Here it is:
# Hi Res Contact Photos
Assign contact photos on your SD card directly to specific contacts for hi-res thumbnails. If you assign contact photos in Outlook and then sync, the contact photos on your phone will be low-res.
While we're talling about high-res pictures, here's another tip:
# Improve Photo Thumbnail Resolution in Photo Tab
Modify or tweak a photo (such as adjusting brightness) using a image editor directly on your HD (eg: Resco Photo Viewer) and save and overwrite the original. This makes the photo thumbnails on your Photo Touchflo 3D tab hi-res instead of low-res.
I have a t-mobile branded version of the tp2 and thanks for your responses. One more thing to add, when scrolling thru contacts in touch flo is it normal for pics to be blurry and take a few seconds to sharpen out?

It does not matter where the images are actually saved initially, it's just important to add them from TouchFlo and not from outlook/contacts
I don't sync with ActiveSync, but use Funambol instead - created a free account and used clients for Outlook and PPC.
Now I can sync from every location to internet and back - works great! (Also you can sync with many PCs while Activesync cannot even handle two PCs)
I am a newbie to this forum, how can I add the contact pics via touchflo. The pics are all blurry in my contact. They look sharp in album view

Yeah, I've been doing that and the pictures are a little bit blurry also and I thought that's what people are talking about. It must be because the People tab zooms on the picture a little.

I don't have that many contacts pictures... BUT when I scroll through pictures in Album, I have a similar effect. The next picture appear slightly blurry at first and then sharpens out in about 1 sec.
Think it's a Windows thing... experienced the same thing in Vista sometimes as well if I scroll BACK and the file size is big (scrolling forward give a sharp picture immediately).

Use the slider from the home screen to go to the People tab. This is really the "favourites", and will be blank unless you have already input some of your contacts.
Either add the contact, or go to the one you want to change, then press menu at the bottom, and a list comes up and "change picture is the bottom one.
Select your picture, move the highlighted box or zoom in/out to get the crop you want, then then save.
NOTE: if you go into the contacts, or into "all people" and change the picture, then it will be blurry. This must be done from the People tab from the home screen

I'd love to help, but you be a little more clearer on exactly what is going on?
oh sorry , here goes ive put some pictures from my pc to my wp7, when i go to pictures and try to change the background i select one of my own pics that i have transferred from my pic. the background changes but it looks a little blurry and not as sharp as it should be, the same then applies to the pictures tile, its no longer as sharp as it was.
I know exactly what you mean. I accidentally formatted my phone using Mac connect and deleted my original sample photos from WP7. To change the background photo of the live tile and to make it not blurry, you need to use an image with big dimensions, somewhere along the lines of 1920x1200 or better. The picture tile image can be in widescreen or fullscreen but fullscreen mode is the correct resoluytion.
for contacts tile google contacts produce low resolutions automatically. If you want a higher resolution just create a new contact under windows live and the contact photo you use will not appear pixelated.
I hope that helps. Also if you wouldnt mind, could you attach the photo of the white dandelions/field from the original sample photos that came preinstalled on your phone? I would love to reset my pictures tile tothat photo but can't find it anywhere and I don't feel like factory resetting my phone to get it back.
thanks
Can you plz post screen shot or some pic of the blurry tiles?
ok.. so basically.. in order to get a crisp and sharp picture to appear on the live tile... then it has to be a big sized picture?? why wont 480x800 work?? that's the dimension of the phone??
and also.. how do you set or choose which photo appears in the tile?? is there a way to just have it constantly changing?? i think that would be pretty cool
thanks for the info, ill try it out.
to change the picture of the photo tile, after you open it, slide to the pictures hub, press hold anywhere on the background and it will pop up with two menu items : change background and change it for me.
from there you can choose a photo
I do not know why the normal phone resolution doesn't look as clear. This is just from my experience.
*EDIT*
as you can see, the photo you attached for me has a higher resolution than the phone's 480x800.
When you copy a picture to the phone, it is resized to 720x540 by the phone. This happens if you use Zune, email it to yourself, or use Skydrive to store it. This will be why it doesn't look as good as it should in the background.
I had a discussion with WinPhoneSupport on twitter, and they told me that was the maximum resolution for pictures on the phone.
It's one of the first things I've found on WP7 that irritates me. Fortunately, it doesn't irritate me too much and I still love the phone . However, if pics are important to you, I can understand the frustrations.
Has anyone found a way around this? This is driving me crazy
It's actually idiotic policy to do that.

I wrote about this here: http://wpcentral.com/tip-get-high-res-photos-contacts-your-wp7-device
Basically, if you use Live, sync a high res photo to that linked account with your contact.
It's basically a Google thing--they downsize the photo. Microsoft Live does not. You can use both services, linked, for each contact. I did this for my Pinned contacts and they are all high rez and stay that way, thankfully.
Trust me, on Android, contact photos look just a crappy as they do when you sync Google to WP7.

This I'm aware of, I have moved all my contacts from Google to live. Since Live now offers exchange support, all is well
But here we are talking about the Picture tile (not the contacts)
If you edit the contact you can change the picture there. If you have linked your contact from different accounts (eg live, facebook) you can choose which picture to take for that contact. Usually there is one that is sharp. After that your Tile should have the crisp pic on it. I had blurry pics too when I synced the first time...
With the Galaxy S Epic I got, I was happy to see that I could 'compress' the photos when I attach them to an email. I like to take pictures in a higher resolution for my own home purpose, but when I want to send one or two in email (take picture on the road and want to share on the fly), it is nice to compress them down to a smaller size for faster sending and sharing (instead of sending the full size photo).
When I go to send an email, select the 'attach' option and select a picture or two, I select to compress the photos to 10% size. Type my text and send, that goes fine.
Normally when friends get the emails with the reduced picture file, the picture file is mostly blank. It has about 1/4 inch on the top of the photo with original photo material, and the rest of the photo is blank grey screen.
Meaning, they get the picture file completely, say 800x600, and the top 5 % is the photo and the reset of the picture is blank/grey.
I send copies home and get the same results.
The original pictures are fine when viewed on photo or later xferred to home PC.
Appears to be the photo compression feature itself that distorts the file, because all receivers have said/got the same distorted file. Meaning everyone who gets a copy of email, replies with same issue.
Is a bad option or bad compression tool in the phone?

To make a long story short I'm coming from a Galaxy note 9. I've been a fan of the camera quality on their phones for many years. I'd like to know if there is anybody that has a XML file to load on the gcam settings to have a picture quality both when I take the photo and when I review the photo that will be similar if not super close to the Samsung camera picture qualities?
lol
Next, launch Google Camera, double tap anywhere on the dark area around the capture button. It will then prompt you to Choose config, scroll the list if you have saved a number of xml files, or else just tap on the one listed and tap Restore to invoke the settings. GCam will then restart itself.
GarageBand App
plz you need to help me guys!

even when i take picture sometimes it show the picture i took before then it jump to the current picture wtf?????
any fix or other great gallery like samsung that is free without ad?
I think you are describing the fact that you cannot scroll past the photos that were just taken when viewing photos from the shortcut at the bottom-right corner of the display whilst in the Google Camera app.
This restriction only occurs when you are navigating into the camera app from the lock screen. This is done for security reasons so that some random stranger/theft who stole a phone whom cannot unlock said phone cannot view all of the pictures on that device.
There are two ways to view all of your pictures:
1. Unlock your phone and then enter the Google Camera app. Then click the photos shortcut at the bottom-right corner of the display.
2. Unlock your phone and then open the Google Photos app.
