Lollipop coming to s3? (Samsung hinted) - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I tweeted @SamsungmobileUK, about Lollipop on gallaxy s3 devices, and look at there reply:
All you unrooted uses, keep checking for updates!

You would see it on the International S3 first and as always AT&T would be last. I remember having to manually update to 4.3 because the tar was out months before the OTA.

I highly doubt (still possible though) that an official lollipop would ever come to the s3. The s2 never went beyond 4.1.2 and it is only a year older than our phone.

International s3 wont get more updates due to it having 1gb of ram and the other s3's with 2gb can get more update juat like we got kit kat and the international didn't i think

Dream on!

The S3 doesn't have enough RAM to hold lollipop. I checked. But Samsung could release an optimized version based on the one from the S5 or S6 lollipop (Idk which one has lollipop)

Doesn't the s3 i747 have 2 GB of RAM? I have a Moto G 2013 with 1 GB of ram and it can run lollipop with no problem.

Nonsense. If that were the case, why would CM 12.1 exist for the S3?

Yes it has 2GB on RAM. Mine came with 2GB RAM and 8GB storage.
Sent from my GT-I8200N using XDA Free mobile app

Because it is optimized. And roms don't use as much RAM
Sent from my GT-I8200N using XDA Free mobile app

Hahahahahaha. 2 gb ram is all a whole lot of new phones with L have on them. I had an lg l90 tyat has official l on it. Ithad "2" gb ram also. But is has a slimmer 2gb than this phone.

Android 5 (Lollypop) uses the same amount of RAM as Android 4 (Kitkat).
It's really time everyone updates to cm-12 because it is stable and has the latest security patches, unlike the officially slow options.
Read the xda wiki or ask for help.

well no source but keeping fingers crossed

If you're rooted flash TWRP 2.8.7.0 IMG with flashify app or Odin the 2.8.7.0 tar. Then flash one of enewman17's 4.4.2 stock rooted ROMs that corresponds with your baseband. You'll loose all data in the process so back it up first. Otherwise download one of his 4.4.2 ROMs & pull what apks you deleted & use a root file manager to push them back to system.

@DrewHanks, sure! Glad you got it fixed.

With Android 6.0 Marshmallow out, I doubt the s3 will see anything beyond 4.4.2

Highly doubt it, but cm12.1 is pretty great right now.

I think that's not intended for the Original Galaxy S2 from Boost Mobile (FH29)... (correct me if I'm wrong) Maybe it works but I don't want to try that, If anyone comes up with a root specifically for this one please let us know.....

I mean... It looks like a workaround of a sprint (rooted) rom to make it work in the new GS2 from boost.... isn't it?

Download Agat's latest kernel and the SuperSU.zip from crawj.
Will also be helpful if you have the stock kernel in case you want to flash it back.
1) Flash Agat's kernel by Odin.
2) Either flash crawj's SuperSU.zip or PM me and I have another one that will do the trick.
That's it! You're now rooted.
You can flash back the stock kernel by Odin if you really wanted to after doing this.
The system update FI22 is out... (Boost Mobile GS2)
Problems if you have FH29 rooted and want to update to FI22:
I'm running now the FH29 and tried to update it to the newest version (FI22) but that gave me an error that didn't surprise me because I'm rooted.
I did a Nandroid backup before anything....
I went back to stock and did both updates FH29 and FI22, then I rooted the phone (flashed Agat and then Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip), everything seemed ok until I realized the 3G wasn't working no matter what I tried. I flashed my Nandroid backup on top of this without results. Finally, I went back to stock again, updated to FH29, and flashed my Nandroid backup and everything is working now... (without FI22)
If anyone has a solution for this let me know, it looks like this rooting metod doesn't work for FI22, for some reason blocks the 3G and I don't know what else....
Thanks

X-Note 9.0 for 900T

OK guys, There is no way I am the only one with a 900T itching to get my hands on KK and X-Note 9.0. I am very new to the whole rooting android devices but I am quickly learning the ropes. I have been reading many posts were where this is available to the 9005 versions. I also know that the 900T and 9005 are almost the same phone with 900T being locked (temporarily) to TMobile. I have been searching the threads for the past week looking for the answer if anyone with a 900T has been able to install the Official Poland Version 4.4.2 on their 900T. As some help I have been emailing someone else with a T-Mobile phone that helps to specialize in hard bricked devices. I am including the emails and I hope to get this thread moving forward. If it is not possible I would like to see if there is a way to work the system to get us the X-note 9.0 upgrade.

Side note: What I am going to attempt is to install the Poland version of kk to my phone. It is for the 9005 model (which the tmobile device is). Tmobile phones can run 9005 roms with a few updates, but I am not sure about the kk upgrade.

Until we get an official Kernel for 4.4.2 for Tmobile we wont be able to install it. I even tried it last night since I've used previous X-note editions in the past. Hopefully in a couple more weeks we'll have a kernel.

A few questions since I have spent a lot of time digging here in the threads.
1. Did you install the Official Poland 4.4.2 KK update?
2. Did you install the latest compulsion Kernel?

Axeman, Thank you very much for commenting on this post. I have seen your information alot dieingmy research. I have been attempting to gain traction on this topic. I do have a few questions.
1: is it possible to flash the official Poland KitKat version?
2: if it is possible, what are the risks that we are looking at?
I can see the problem with not having a custom kernel. Here is a link to one that I found earlier today.

I also saw a thread today where the Canadian version is now able to upgrade to Kit Kat and flash x-note 9.0

There is a link in the q&a forum for xnote. This gives specific instructions for getting it to work on tmobile versions of the note 3. I tried on 4.3 and was successful and also on 4.4.2 successful as well. im aroma I just selected the uk version to flash. you probably already know this but I thought id post this for future reference for other members. this rom is real stable and has not gave me any issues whatsoever from version 11 to 13

The only thing I flashed through odin was the 4.4.2 bootloader for tmobile
Everything else was done through recovery
Tmobile version xnote 13

I do recall reding along the threads somewhere that if you flash a non tmobile bootloader through odin you will end up with a fancy paper weight.

I upgraded already to Lollipop. Before that I didnt use root or anything . I dont need it . but to be honest this first update of Lollipop is not something awesome . just some graphic enhanchements, add user function , notifications in the lockscreen ( ok thats cool ) . More Lollipop updates will follow with more awesome stuff on it . But now I dont know if it worth it for you to lose your root etc . I read somewhere though that they are working for rooting the lollipop and will be available during the day .
Go for Lollipop:
- ART vs Dalvik (much faster - 1.4 GB Ram free)
- Notification from Lockscreen
- User management
- Smoother ( 0 lag - even with facebook that needs a octa-core 5.0 Ghz CPU to send a message )
- Material Design
Also if you want to wait usually LG will land several builds in the next month with updates but for the moment its as good as it gets.
Update bro! Lollipop is amazing!!

HAHA
I would say that there is no need to upgrade to L right now. I suspect that LG wanted to get out 5.0 really quick and the LG UI is not yet ready for the material look of 5.0, so most likely another major update after this one will come in a few months. At that time I expect the LG UI will be better integrated with the feel and look of 5.0.
Aside from that there could be some hidden bug gems that I would like to avoid, so I will let others test this build before I update to it. Don't know if this makes sense to some of you but this is how I see things.
I upgraded to lollipop and i won't go back to kitkat..upgrade to A20 and you will see how smooth lollipop is ..the thing i liked most that you can add lg stock widgets to third launchers ..and when you install google now launcher it looks like nexus 6 launcher
I think this thread would fit better at the Q&A section.
Anyway, the only thing that could stop you from updating is xposed framework. For everything else, it's worth.
Bump! works on Lolipop?
Noob question here :fingers-crossed: Would I have to un-root to upgrade to Lollipop? If not, is un-rooting recommended before upgrading?
I've got my device behaving and performing to my satisfaction right now and I was just wondering what re-investment of time would I have to make to get to Lollipop?

Wow go easy on lollipop. Any way think twise before you go there.
Perhaps check S3v3ns thread androidnow 3.0 lollipop 20A. Dont flash that lollipop ota. Use some custom made lollipop so that you dont get stuck in lollipop land for good.
Ok. So because I'm rooted, I should look to upgrade only using some sort of a custom packaged version of Lollipop from the forums here?

Just hang around on the forum and some kind contributor will allways share latest lollipop version.
Othervise there is guides how to extract the official updates (kdz) and make it harmles to flash.
Latest lollipop is as of now ver 20A and there is at least two rom cooks witch have released lollipop for twrp flashing.
Read the threads. Be observant if you try to go back to kitkat. You have to flash the old modem in that case.

You will not get the updates unless you are on stock recovery.......I'm on rooted but on stock recovery so getting the OTA but it is of only 236MB in size . So i thinks it's jst a normal update...not an OS update.....
and one thing more if you are rooted and got the update then don't install that as it will lead to bootloop......it might get your device bricked

thanks deepak, me myself will try to once i get my hands on mine (probably next week) and keep you udated, in the meantime i will try to find a way to backup the stock rom from mine, any ideas as how to do it?

You can backup your stock rom by rooting your phone and installing a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM ,rooting is simple but the problem is I cant find any recovery for LS885.....but one friend "shaneg79" had installed the custom recovery on his LS885......so waiting for him to give the download link of that recovery.
Would love to see that stock recovery.

Still looking for a custom recovery for this device. Has anyone been fortunate enough to find a way to install twrp on the vigor?

New OGA update rolling out. Stagefright fixer!

Would you update your device to fix the Stagefright? Or would skip the update because you want root? Let's hope the current root trick works on this one.
Full build no. G920PVPU2BOGA.

This issues has been around for awhile so i would wait to see what the developers do
I'm not rooted so I just downloaded this 53mb update and it's applying now. Actually advises that it's a security fix for Stagefright and nothing else. It has finished applying in the time I've been typing this and just rebooted, but it has to go through the app optimizing. It jumped up to 224 of 348 quick enough, but the time consuming wait for the rest of them. Tick, tock...
Downloaded and am installing now.
I installed this update did not notice anything else changed. For some reason the s6 stagefright fix was only around 50MB while the S5 was close to 300MB, and the only thing claimed to be fixed in the s5 release notes was the same thing.
Updated, and screw root. Phone good enough to not need it.

What he ^^^^^ said!
Can someone give me an fast link to the OGA G920P or G925P firmware please? Or to the OTA zip.
So that I can rip the fixed stagefright lib files from it for my ROM.
Getting 1.2gb system RAM usage after the update. Hoping it's a tiny fix, it's a relief to have 600MB more free to do what I want with, was getting 1.8/1.9GB system ram usage before update.
Will post update in a few hours to see if this is still true.
Any root for it yet guys?

So I was looking up where to get the kernel source code for the new oga update and Samsung has not released it yet.. I was thinking of trying to learn how to make a kernel myself for root
I updated then flashed unikernel v6 0001 in odin and twrp and am now rooted on stock OGA , just wish i could remove carrieriq and itson.

Update then use odin to flash unikernel v6-0001 and then the twrp both here in xda forums. i did this and have full root with no issues.
Can someone (who have rooted OGA) upload all stagefright lib files in /system/lib & /system/lib64 folders for me please?
So that I can make an Stagefright flashable fix for all S6 models/firmwares.

Assuming the libs are the same for 920P and 925P, someone posted theirs for the 925P here.
edit - I don't know that they were rooted though.

If your still on stock kernel then battery does suck down quick
sent from rooted G920P on OGA
Tried unikernel v6 and failed
Tried, went through Ok, but when got to phone the screen wouldn't work. Wouldn't register finger. Buttons worked though. Idk
You tried the update or changing kernel?
sent from rooted G920P on OGA
Did update, then used the mentioned kernel. Pass in Odin, but when phone rebooted just the buttons where working. No touch screen
