Ok dropped Evo at work, shattered the screen. Filed claim & got sent a brand new Evo but came pre-updated with 2.2. Seeing as how there was nothing wrong with my release date Evo was wondering if anyone could post some instructions or point me in the right direction on how to disassemble and replace the screen. I've tried Google with with no luck. I have a few days until I have to return the old unit and this thought popped in my head after getting discouraged by the lack of advancement on rooting 2.2. Mods sorry if I am posting in the wrong section but I'm desperate to get my root back.
Edit: Mods please delete. I think I've found a solution.
why not share your solution with the rest of the gang?

I found this: http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-evo-4g-take-apart-repair-guide.html
Gonna give it a try when I get of work tomorrow. Those pry tools look similar to the ones that came with my iPod repair kit I bought a few years back. I'll keep you guys posted on how I make out. Fingers crossed. Just hoping I don't end up with 2 broke Evo's. That site offers repair service too but you have to buy the parts from them. $99.99 for the screen and $34.99 for repair service. I wish I had found this site before I paid Asurion $100 for a replacement. Oh well, but something for folks to think about if they break their screens.
Any idea of what kind of glue to use to keep the screen down? I'm going to attempt this repair for a friend tonight, and have some gorilla glue.... I'm sure it will hold, but i fear the
expanding-ness of the glue will spread out of the black border.
Now that is a good question. The kit the sell doesn't include glue so I'm not sure. It talks about using a hairdryer to loosen it up so maybe the glue will stay put when it gets hot.
Well, it seems I'm stuck, and I need your help.
I've got my replacement digitizer and tools needed to repair the phone. I've been watching the guides on youtube for this, and realized I'm missing adhesive to get the damn screen to stay in the phone, LOL!
I was wondering if anyone here has gone through the process, and if they can tell me specifics on what you used and where you got it. All I've seen is references to 3m VHB tape, which couldn't be vaguer to me. I'm really hoping it's available at a local Lowe's or Home Depot or similar store.
Please, let me know
Closed. I guess china is the only place you can get it. Dunno how the hell that works...lol
Hi all,
I'm looking for a guide or instructions on how to disassemble the keypad on the Desire Z - I can't seem to find any on Google or Youtube; all those guides cover how to take apart the entire phone - which I have already done - but they don't show how to open the keypad.
Any assistance is much appreaciated.
Thanks!
They probably don't have any guides on how to take apart the keyboard, as it seems to be generally not able to be repaired by itself. You probably would either need to venture on your own, or just buy a new keyboard.

Cheers for the reply; I've looked for replacement keyboards and they sell just the actual pad or its flex cable, but not the whole keyboard chassis.. which means it is serviceable. I just can't find any screws or anything so I'm afraid I might break some plastic clips or such. So I'll still keep an eye out on this thread; I'm in no hurry lol.
Seeing how easy it is to remove the back cover has anyone been able to find and grey back cover replacements for scratched / cracked backs? I've searched but found nothing.

Hi,
Type "galaxy note 10.1 spare parts" in Google or eBay
Some results :

There is a teardown finished and a guide that is in progress at ifixit.com. It might help you, here is the link: http://www.ifixit.com/device/Samsung_galaxy_note_10.1

ouch, $70 just for the cover and other parts you don't need. You could try to resell the rest.
So.. I broke the screen of my Google Galaxy Nexus I9250. I'm in the UK. The prices I've been quoted are sort of outragious - it's better to buy a Nexus 4 instead of repairing it.
I'm quite handy - does anyone know how to change the screen myself? I'm pretty sure the screen can be found on ebay for something like 30 pounds. What tools/process is needed?
Any help is welcome!
I had a broken screen too. Got a screen+digitizer from someone and replaced it myself.
It's an easy task, trust me. Before I did this, I had never even opened up a phone. Still I found it easy.
You can find videos on YouTube that very well explain how to open up your phone. I referred three videos (two were of opening and was a fast forwarded screen replacing video). Search for them on YouTube.
If you are unable to find them (which I don't think will be the case), ping me. I'll send them to you as I had downloaded those 3 videos.
All the best!
Thanks for the info AbhishekS!
My only concern is this: I am not sure if just the outer screen is broken, or the digitizer as well.
For now I bought only the outer screen, which is cheap (10 pounds).
My problem is this: If the digitizer is broken, then I need to replace that part as well, but it is expensive! It is so expensive that it is probably more worth it to buy a Nexus 4 or some other better android device at this point.
So I am facing two options: Either try to replace just the screen or.. buy another phone. Replacing just the screen seems way harder that replacing the screen+digitizer combo and I am kind of afraid to do it... :/
