[Q] Change screen grid size? - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Outside of going with a 3rd party launcher does anyone know how to change the default homescreen grid size? The app drawer has an obvious setting for its grid but I can't find one for the homescreen. I have jumped on to ADW for now but actually like the native launcher except for this one thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No native method to increase grid size. They didn't build any options in for it.

Well that figures. It looks pretty lame to me to have a 5.5" 1080p screen and only have 4x4 icons on it.

Change dpi, at 244 you have 5x5

Not to mention that it looks horrible at that density.
I'm working on some things. The notifications and grid size are two of my priorities. I hope to have some things done this weekend.

taste and color....
Just try and see if you like, revert it if you don't like...
I like this and I don't see how it's horrible at this density.
It's smaller and give more space on the screen.

320 or 360 dpi is way better than the default 480. If that doesn't suit you, there are plenty of other launchers that'd get the job done nicely. GEL + XGEL works well too and gets you a "fuller" Google experience

I like the stock launcher but the icons are too big and only 4x4 is very wasted space.
I'm using nova launcher, grid size 10x7 with sub grid positioning and icon dimension 80%, now it's looking better, without change dpi.

I've setted the dpi to 385 and then I have enlarged the font size.
With these settings the final result is very similar to the original but with smaller icons and with the 5x5 grid you are looking for.
As others have said just give it a try you can always get back

I liked the way the icons looked but my Swiftkey keyboard was giganormous, as in I could only see the upper left corner of it. Reverted back for now.

I experienced it as well. I switched to other keyboard because of this issue. Then, I found the older version that works. Now I'm using Swiftkey again. Apparently, the latest update broke it. You need 5.3.2.67-x86

Hi I want to share the apps I use to make my Samsung Galaxy 2 look like it has a higher resolution. I tried lcd density but I didn't like it because it messed up a lot of apps. So I downloaded go launcher ex. It has a setting where you can change app icon sizes and grid sizes. So I made the app icons smaller and made it a 5x5 grid so I can fit more apps on the screen. Then I downloaded a font size app and made the font of the phone smaller. I also change the default zoom in the browser to far. I feel like it makes the screen look better than stock and not make me want the galaxy nexus screen so much.

[Q/Opinion] Launcher 7

Im not sure if this should be in Q&A or Themes &Apps..
Ive been trying to use launcher 7, I really like it actually.
The problem is it seems very buggy and laggy on my phone. I don't use that many tiles and about four widgets. Usually after a few minutes the widgets move all over the screen and out of the tiles.
I haven't seen any complaints in the comments in the market, only praises on how well and stable it is. I've used it both on a TW and cm7 ROM, locked home in memory trying to get it to function correctly.
Has anybody else have the same experience or is it just me and my phone? Am I doing something wrong or is this launcher still a WIP?
Have you ever considered using an app called Desktop Visualizer to create your own Windows 7 launcher? I mean it's not exactly the same but it does allow you to use your own images:

Thanks Im definitely going to check that out.
One word of caution though. When I attempted doing this several years ago, the only launcher that would allow you to place the icons so that they touch each other without leaving a gap was LauncherPro. Every other launcher I tried to use left a gap & didn't make it look so seamless.
You should also be able to find pre-made icon packs & tuts here on XDA.
Here's one to get you started:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783946
Update: Man what a pain. Using the included icon pack, I'm having trouble getting them to align correctly. Not only that in order to resize the home screen icons using Launcher Pro, you need Launcher Pro Plus which is a paid app. So I tried using ADW Launcher...still can't get them to align correctly.
I guess the icon packs were created for a specific sized screen (hence the problem with alignment). I'll continue to give it a go to see if I can get it to work.
Okay got it finally.
First you need to set your launcher to 5 rows & 4 columns.
Then when creating your icons (.png) from whatever image you find they need to be at the following resolutions/pixels:
1x1 = 110x122px
1x2 = 115x264px
2x1 = 230x124px
3x1 = 355x124px
4x1 = 475x124px
You may also be able to find icons packs/sets on the net but they have to be made specifically for screen resolutions of 800x480 in order to align correctly on our screens.
Hope that helps

After using the official (landscape) Samsung dock...

I was thinking, a great launcher app would be when the phone is put into the dock, the launcher activates a setting and a specific layout of icons that you would want to use with the phone (while in the dock) comes onto the screen automatically.
Thoughts?
I like it. Sort of like a car dock app.
Something like a big clock in the top 2/3rds and a row of icons on the bottom.

Yea exactly.
I just got the idea because I have a custom layout with ADW Launcher and I have something like 5 rows and 6 columns and so when its rotated the icons on the screen are pretty hard to press so sometimes I hit/launch other apps.
So this concept would help me out a lot.
It's interesting that the 2.1-2.3 clock app had exactly what we are talking about. It wasn't customizable though.
They got rid of it in 3.0+

That is pretty much exactly what I was thinking. If there is an app in the play store that does this I'd pay for it.
How about this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.DevBob.DeskClockPlus
Does the GNex not do this on its own when inserted into the landscape dock (when you are running 4.0.4 and higher)?

It does. We are just talking about alternatives.
EDIT: To add to this. The stock ICS clock removed the quick launch icons and weather and just displays the clock now. (which I'm sure you already know)
Sure, you can press home and go to the launcher but it would be nice to have the features of the old clock app with the ICS look.

All it does is just show a clock that is intended to use at bedside. Once you touch the home button it brings you to the launcher you are using.

It's good but I think something with more customizable icons on the "dock" of the app would be ideal for me.

You can with this app. It requires an add-on purchase though. Here's the quote from the app description.
Optionally, you can purchase an extension that will allow you to add additional buttons docks and choose your own applications to launch from Desk Clock Plus. Swipe left and right on the dock or on the time and weather to re-arrange the layout. You can also swipe the time and weather panels to reconfigure the clock's layout.

I also, sent the dev a message on G+ asking if he had any plans to base off the ICS clock or add an ICS theme.

Reduce Icon Size without changing DPI

Hi All,
I have been using a 3rd Party Launcher on my Asus Zenfone 2 upto now but noticed that on the Stock Asus Launcher, the Icons are too big. Is there a way to change the size of the icon [Font is fine and is changeable too] so as to accommodate more icons on the screen? I have seen some other threads talking about reducing DPI but they also have their issues with certain apps like Keyboard not working and the 3 capacitive buttons not working after altering the DPI. So is there a way to reduce the Icon size or are there icon packs which can be loaded that offer reduced size? Thanks for your time.
I'd like to know this myself. I changed my DPI to 380 and like the layout now, but I really want to reduce the size of the icon's too. They're just slightly too big in my opinion.
Get Nova Launcher and you can change the size of the icons!
I don't want to get a different launcher. I'm actually really liking the Asus ZenUI Launcher.

No way to adjust the icon size without changing the DPI.
What I did, i root it, install Xposed, and have Xposed GEL settings installed + Google Now Launcher. Does not work on ASUS launcher (unless someone create a module for it)

I changed DPI to 270 on my 550 (think default is 300). I really like it because it keeps the same icon layout (I am not a fan of too many icons on one page) but makes them smaller and sharper. Also means you get a bit more stuff on screen in settings menu etc. Not seeing any issues from reducing DPI other than it breaking the page management screen a bit.
I recommend ActionLauncher 3.

Question App Gride Size

Did they remove the App grid size form the latest update?
In settings it still shows App Grid Size as part of being a setting in Wallpapers but when you go in there it's gone along with Theme matching beta.

Are you on the latest update? I found it last night (and just double checked)
Under `Dark Theme` I have `Themed Icons`, then `App grid`
It's there on mine just below where the last poster mentioned (@CJ0206 ). The good thing is it now works properly, before it was doing some comically strange sizes and things over all apps

Yeah, I had to update it, wasn't happy with the default settings for the grid layout
I am on the latest update and it's missing from wallpapers.
Clearing storage and clearing cache didn't do anything either
Just to confirm I also have the grid options available. I'm on 5x5 right now. Themed icons look a bit scheibe atm tbf

Yup. There's zero attempt to theme third party icons.
So on your home screen it's either have Google apps on display only or disable themed icons.
What a let down.

Here's what I have
I thought it was just me and was debating a full wipe and reload... but I'm still just getting things settled, I don't want to start over.
I can also confirm that I have the latest version and storage and clearing cache didn't do anything for me either. Any other suggestions?

Holy grail hahaha I tried that earlier with no luck. But I did it again and it didn't show.... But I left the settings then restarted my phone and bam!!
Thank you very much
Quick update: I wasn't happy with the look of the default screen size, so I changed back to small and the 'advanced' Wallpaper and Style options are still available. Even after reboot. It's a win all around!
