Im not sure if this should be in Q&A or Themes &Apps..
Ive been trying to use launcher 7, I really like it actually.
The problem is it seems very buggy and laggy on my phone. I don't use that many tiles and about four widgets. Usually after a few minutes the widgets move all over the screen and out of the tiles.
I haven't seen any complaints in the comments in the market, only praises on how well and stable it is. I've used it both on a TW and cm7 ROM, locked home in memory trying to get it to function correctly.
Has anybody else have the same experience or is it just me and my phone? Am I doing something wrong or is this launcher still a WIP?
Have you ever considered using an app called Desktop Visualizer to create your own Windows 7 launcher? I mean it's not exactly the same but it does allow you to use your own images:

Thanks Im definitely going to check that out.
One word of caution though. When I attempted doing this several years ago, the only launcher that would allow you to place the icons so that they touch each other without leaving a gap was LauncherPro. Every other launcher I tried to use left a gap & didn't make it look so seamless.
You should also be able to find pre-made icon packs & tuts here on XDA.
Here's one to get you started:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783946
Update: Man what a pain. Using the included icon pack, I'm having trouble getting them to align correctly. Not only that in order to resize the home screen icons using Launcher Pro, you need Launcher Pro Plus which is a paid app. So I tried using ADW Launcher...still can't get them to align correctly.
I guess the icon packs were created for a specific sized screen (hence the problem with alignment). I'll continue to give it a go to see if I can get it to work.
Okay got it finally.
First you need to set your launcher to 5 rows & 4 columns.
Then when creating your icons (.png) from whatever image you find they need to be at the following resolutions/pixels:
1x1 = 110x122px
1x2 = 115x264px
2x1 = 230x124px
3x1 = 355x124px
4x1 = 475x124px
You may also be able to find icons packs/sets on the net but they have to be made specifically for screen resolutions of 800x480 in order to align correctly on our screens.
Hope that helps

I think you're best bet is to start here:

That should get you the wallpaper and the analog clock.
The digital clock you can get with fancy widget pro (it's one of the skins, if you need help setting it up, let me know).
The icons seem like they would be very easy to build in photoshop if no one has built them already. If you are using ADW EX or Launcher Pro, you can create custom docks and icons and use them.
I also think you can get something similar to that battery percentage with battstatt pro.
It would take some work, but I think making your homescreen look very close to that is doable. If you need help with the icons, I might be able to do it for a donation, but it wouldn't be for a bit. I may be able to do it over the weekend, but I'm going to be out of town for business and not sure what my schedule is going to be like.
Edit: I saw the icons were available in that thread, that's good, hardest part if they didn't exist. I started reading that thread, seems like you should be able to do it with CM7, that theme, the icons he posted, Built in ADW or EX/LP, some of the widgets I mentioned and the Honeycomb boot animation.
He's right, and then search themes and apps [or google] for honeycomb icons, then you can use launcher pro, ect to change the icons to make them honeycomb icons.

I don't see the icons in that thread
From the post above the one you linked:

Hmmm, those are diff icons than the ones you posted, but I think they are the actual HC icons. The ones in the screenshot would be much easier to make.
Well, The only thing I got sorta right was the dock... But I'd like to find that small HC Digital Clock
Fancy widget pro. You have to get the pay version to be able to change skins. Download Honeycomb skin.
Fancy widgets gives you a bunch of diff widget options. Just choose clock widget and under appearance settings, hide the background and hide date.

I think he probably means metro. Launcher 7 doesn't scale very well, so I guess I'm looking for one too.

I like how it says "Windows 8 PC HD" and yet it uses elements from XP (background) and icons from Vista/7. Not even worthy of $0.99...
But yea I too think the op meant Modern UI (Metro is deprecated), which, would seem "interesting" on an actual touchscreen in my opinion.
best bet would be to use another launcher to increase the desktop grid, find/make the icons you want and use desktop visualizer to mimic the W8 layout..
another option is to actually create a wallpaper with the layout you want on it and then overlay desktop visualizer widgets over parts of the wallpaper. Here's some old wallpapers i used on my old Aria using this method. Maybe it'll help you to get an idea.

multipicture livewallpaper in conjunction with the above methods and can also be used if you want to use dif images per desktop and to tweak the desktop "page turn" animation
Holy crap dude that looks good!!! Desktop visualizer confuses me lol can't figure it out

haha thanks.
It isn't too difficult once you figure it out. Essentially its just a resizable launchers. You set an app/action to launch and an image for said action.
In the case of the photos above, the icons and everything are actually part of the wallpaper image. DV is used just to overlay the areas of the wallpaper that I want to be a button, set the widget to open the app portrayed on the wallpaper then the image is just a transparent png.
in the case of attempting a Windows 8 theme, you could basically grab a W8 screenshot trimmed to your desired resolution, overlay a DV widget over the individual launcher icons on the wallpaper, set an app to open and use a transparent image.
I've tried to replicate 100s of layout from MyColorscreen, but this time I would really like to succeed, so hopefully with all your help, I will finally get this right!
So this is how it looks now:

I like the nexus setup more. Now what is the problem obviously the black stuff doesn't cover the sides of the screen and the top and bottom. Why?
I set apex launcher to a 10*8 grid like he said for the gs3
Has anyone got that uccw file (the top one)?
Also how do I place widgets on top of the black uccw box? I have set the option in apex launcher to widgets overlapping.
Help please!!!

Could you not make the black bit part of the wallpaper?
Nope, it's a live wallpaper
Okay, so Alex T replied and provided the uzip files yaay. Only the gs3 ones though, like the nexus ones better.
This is what I got so far.
Next problem I can't get my icons over the uccw widgets, do I need a special program?
Will someone please help me? Thx
The icons are part of a uccw. Have a look in blackbearblanc thread in theming section you'll find everything you need and read up more on how to edit in uccw

Outside of going with a 3rd party launcher does anyone know how to change the default homescreen grid size? The app drawer has an obvious setting for its grid but I can't find one for the homescreen. I have jumped on to ADW for now but actually like the native launcher except for this one thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
No native method to increase grid size. They didn't build any options in for it.
Well that figures. It looks pretty lame to me to have a 5.5" 1080p screen and only have 4x4 icons on it.
Change dpi, at 244 you have 5x5

Not to mention that it looks horrible at that density.
I'm working on some things. The notifications and grid size are two of my priorities. I hope to have some things done this weekend.
taste and color....
Just try and see if you like, revert it if you don't like...
I like this and I don't see how it's horrible at this density.
It's smaller and give more space on the screen.
320 or 360 dpi is way better than the default 480. If that doesn't suit you, there are plenty of other launchers that'd get the job done nicely. GEL + XGEL works well too and gets you a "fuller" Google experience
I like the stock launcher but the icons are too big and only 4x4 is very wasted space.
I'm using nova launcher, grid size 10x7 with sub grid positioning and icon dimension 80%, now it's looking better, without change dpi.

I've setted the dpi to 385 and then I have enlarged the font size.
With these settings the final result is very similar to the original but with smaller icons and with the 5x5 grid you are looking for.
As others have said just give it a try you can always get back

I liked the way the icons looked but my Swiftkey keyboard was giganormous, as in I could only see the upper left corner of it. Reverted back for now.

I experienced it as well. I switched to other keyboard because of this issue. Then, I found the older version that works. Now I'm using Swiftkey again. Apparently, the latest update broke it. You need 5.3.2.67-x86
