Hi everyone.
Thinking of jumping off the Samsung Galaxy series in favour of the G3 DUAL SIM LG smartphone...
Does an Aussie here on XDA currently use the DUAL SIM G3 model D856 or D858HK (with 3GM RAM and 32GB memory)?
If so, can you please report back on the following:
- Fastest 4G speeds on SIM 1 - who is your carrier?
- Fastest Internet speeds on WIFI - and what is your home line speed?
- I don't believe it does, but does either of these 2 models support wireless charging? (Not referring to AUS model D855 that does)
- Rate it / 10 in terms of comfort & ease of use? (5.5" doesn't sit well with me, might as well be a tablet, but is at its max I'd consider USEABLE)
- Where did you buy from? How long ago? Do you remember what you paid?
- Any current deals for it now?
- Make note of your FAVOURITE/BEST feature?
- Make note of the WORST feature on the phone?
- Have you rooted the phone? What modifications have you made to improve usability / battery etc?
I really like dual SIM capability, more RAM and internal storage...but I dislike the fact that only the AUS model (D855) will work on Telstra carrier 4GX band of 700mhz...but thankfully the international models work on 1800MHz 4G, with the D856 appearing to having more 4G band capability. I am also tossing up between whether or not to wait for the G4. Any thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.

Bump. Any Aussies in the house?
Aight, so no one has this phone?

Best if you ask this on whirlpool. But with regards to you other questions
- Where did you buy from? How long ago? Do you remember what you paid? I would highly suggest you get it from Kogan instead of a no name third party seller just for piece of mind when it comes to dealing with warranty and with logistics etc etc
- Any current deals for it now? Not that i know of
- Make note of your FAVOURITE/BEST feature? Dual Window
- Make note of the WORST feature on the phone? Its battery life
Trying to answer your question, since I had D858 and I am using D855 now,
-D858 no wireless charging, "quick circle" case is different than D855, no SlimPort function for D858
- I am in Hong Kong, so 4G is 4G, it supports the China 4G (TD-CDMA)
- QuickMemo+ is always really nice, and the camera got many features once you install Xcam, it has the features that the G2 got, no idea why G3 removed them
- don't use Android 5.0 now, over heating and battery drain for no reason
- screen using too much battery, 2K makes the phone feel slower compare to the G2, even my GPro feel a bit faster sometimes, and my GPro battery last forever
- I got it because it's like half price compare to Sony Xperia Z3 and those Samsungs, it can compare with them but half the price

Just wanted to let everyone know that Bell is stating their LG Optimus LTE is actually the LG P930 Nitro HD (as per the box and the internal OS). Seems to be a bit of confusion on the 'Net. Anyone able to figure this out? Comparison??? Bell vs. AT&T
Doesn't seem to be any sort of a huge difference? Seems basically the same to me other than a few things.
Confusion?
The Optimus LTE is heavier, lacks the extra 2 GB ram, adds the 1700MHz spectrum so it is compatible with WIND, comes with only an 8GB TF SDHC card, no fm radio. some are big differences i would think?
if you go LG.com, it listed Optimus LTE p930 same as Nitro p930.
specs?
If you look, the P930 has different specs than the LTE specs listed all over the 'Net. hence why i started this [Q] to clear up the 2 models conflicting with what Bell is sending out to customers vs. AT&T's Nitro HD P930.
My original [Q] is still unanswered: Bell is handing out the Optimus LTE 4G with boxes and firmware showing it is a P930, yet the specs for the P930 are different from what they are handing out. Which is the right P930??? Bell's or AT&T's?
There ARE differences. see my previous post for them.

Sorry little off topic what the hell happened to your phones lol. some are kia and others exploded.
BOOM?!
Little off topic is true. maybe he's had bad luck or bad units or the zerglings got him?
Going off topic/the record, I have had the worse luck when it comes to phone this year.
-Atrix sorta burst into a tiny flame while charging
- 1st BB drowned, 2nd had faulty keys and the 3rd one permanently froze
- Whatever bugs/defects that were reported with the Sensation, happened to me
- The Torch and Bold basically died and wouldnt charge or turn on.
Thankfully, I have the PEP plan from Best Buy <3. Technically saved me over $3000 haha

Wow, that's interesting. I knew they had differences in software but I didn't think they had some differences in hardware too, considering that they call the Optimus LTE a Nitro HD. Does my Nitro HD have a radio/FM antenna? How does one go about using it?

Optimus LTE and LG Nitro is the same phone! both phone listed as P930 on lg.com !
optimus lacks the extra 2gb ram? on my nitro, it listed Internal storage available space 1.53GB. i not even sure nitro has 4gb to begin with.
so nitro has fm radio? the nitro never comes with headset (att is getting cheap! haha) and there is no FM app preinstalled on Nitro!
Bell vs AT&T
Check out GSMArena. They have both phones listed and they are different. One is manufactured for Bell Canada and one is manufactured for AT&T. "They are different". The AT&T model has a radio with RDS the Bell one has no radio.. The AT&T model has only the one "LTE 700" frequency. the Bell has 700 and 1700. AT&T has 4 gig but Bell only 2 gig. Bell Canada LTE is rated at 75 Mbps, AT&T 21 max. There may be other differences. Check the site for yourself and see.
I am still debating which new phone to purchase and leaning to the LG. My current phone does not have the worlds greatest battery life so not getting a full day out of the LT is not a major concern. And talking for three hours,I don't think so.

you know how to check out gsmarena but not att.com, lg.com or get the Nitro user manual from lg.com?? radio is never mentioned on nitro!
just cus it' on gsmarena, it must be accurate?
att version maxed out at 21mb? is there such a thing as LTE maxed out 21mb? haha
21mb is hspa+
I just did a speedtests on nitro and get 27mb!
not exactly reliable sources...
If your phone doesn't say "AT&T" above the screen, then you're getting the Optimus LTE. Only AT&T has the Nitro HD (name wise), and unless they're gonna bother switching out the glass/digitizer, you didn't get the nitro hd.
New Thread for Optimus LTE??
So based on each carriers website, and the manufacturer admitting they are different models, would it be out of line to start a separate thread for the LTE P930 vs. the Nitro P930 and set the naming convention to differentiate between the two models and XDA support?
Can a Mod give their input on this please??? I am just trying to clarify this before this thread gets bloated with unnecessary posts that will eventually lead to confusion and eventually blurs the line between the two models and set up some sort of clarity for future posts and support...

dude, it doesn't even matter. The Nexus S had i9023, i9020t, and i9020A and they coexist fine. The difference in radio(freq) just means you can't put out roms that changes the baseband.
don't you mean the fact the Optimus LTE has only 2GB of internal memory vs. 4GB of internal memory on the Nitro is also a large difference as well as the lack of the dual LTE frequencies vs the Nitro? or do we need to go further into the other hardware differences (ie: screens etc?)
After considering a number of things I've been led on deciding I'd probably want to get an S4 over the other currently available smartphones. I've held off because I had wanted a more premium feeling phone other than plastic, but I realize now I can easily buy an aluminum backing+bumper replacement to give it that look and feel.
Anyways now to the question part of it... I was preferring an unlocked device, but the Internationally sold i9505 and i9500 do not have faster than 3G in the US, or so I've read.
I'm not looking to get a specific phone service right away, for now I want a solid device I'll be happy with for some years to come. Mainly as a portable device with storage and apps, and a little down the road to use it as my mobile phone.
I need some confirmation, but from what I understand the T-Mobile version would probably be the best? Due to once unlocked you can use it on both T-Mobile, or AT&T with 4G/LTE speeds. Also I am led to believe the AT&T S4 does not have the right frequencies for T-Mobile 4G/LTE.
Aside the above wireless speed question, I'd like to know:
1. What would be the point in flashing the i9505/i9500 ROM on the T-Mobile version? To remove T-Mobile association more from the phone... boot screen/software?
2. Does T-Mobile actually sell their version of the S4 at full price, not linked to any plan? Will they provide an unlock code same day, assuming I don't use the free method posted publically. I'm dreading the possibility of having to jump through hoops.
Below I have summerized what I understand about a few non-carrier specific phones....
i9505: International LTE "not working in USA", quad core CPU.
i9500: International 8 core CPU, better GPU.
S4 Google Edition: 4G/LTE capabile, Quad Core CPU, No touchwiz, comes in white color only.
Anyways looking for S4 owner's knowledge, experience and opinions here!
if youre going to pay full price you might want to consider the LTE-A version aka snapdragon 800 version

According to that auction, it says it wont have 4G/LTE in the US? "I'm a frequency noob" One of my concerns was having something I could use on either TMobile or AT&T so I have options... if I was just looking at a 3g phone and cpu power I could just do this, or the i9500 "8 cores".

it gets hspa+ on tmobile and att it might be able to use LTE-A when tmobile and att add it to their networks
and the 8core isnt really 8 core its 4+4 = 4 low power 4 high power cores, only 1 pair of cores work at a time so its only quad core
Several threads say the 9505 can work on TMobile if you flash a compatible kernel but the 9500 is not compatible. With regard to AT&T vs. TMO compatibility, search for AWS mod. A T-Mobile salesman told me he got his girlfriend's AT&T phone to work on TMO network using that patch.

@OP
My experience is that yes, I could buy the S4 from TMO without plan, just pre-paid with a small credit. I do not live in the US,and had no problem with documentation or payment. Of course it is full price.
What the sales person told me is they will give you an unlock code only after 3 months if you are using it, reloading credit I guess. This doesn't work at all for me, but unlocking is actually real easy with the Samsun embedded app. I bought the phone and tried, it worked immediately (if it doesn't you can hand it back and have it refunded, for the restocking fee of 50USD).
Recently I used the ROM code here from Jamal (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348272), to turn the M919 TMO into a i9505 Nexus. For me it is a massive improvement as I just cannot stand bloatware. It also free up much memory, and battery lasts longer.
The 9505 and 9500 will not get you LTE nor H+ on T-Mobile.
They will ONLY *possibly* get you 4G on AT&T.
The AT&T S4 is locked, yes. Your best bet is the T-Mobile S4.
You can flash 9505 ROMs on the T-Mobile version as well as some other ones.
Additionally, the development for the T-Mobile s4 is outstanding.

Hi,
I m also freq noob and as much as I have searched the forum I cannot find the answer...I have SGH-M919 TMO and I am using it in Serbia but have network problems: receiving missed call TXT msg from operator, dropping out of network and difficulty in reconnecting to home network (need restarting).
Since TMO version supports all bands what can be the problem that phone is acting like that?
It works fine when i m on the network...we dont have LTE here nor will we for some time...
Please some help/direction to the thread dealing with this kind of problem...
Thanks
I had a stock unlocked att s4 on T-Mobile getting LTE without any mods.

Hello,
I been looking for the perfect LG G3 Dual Sim model in terms of Specs..
and since i found more than one model.. D856 , D857, D858 and D859
can anyone help me figure out what is are the differences among them ?
thank u
Hi
I've just ordered the D856 which for me (being based in the UK) is the better option considering that includes the LTE 800 band. I know the D858 does not include this band but I'm not entirely sure about the other two variants.

Hi c1181427,

Thanks in advance,

D858HK would work fine on Vodafone as well as it has band 2600 which is LTE+ used by Vodafone UK
Hi.I got mine from a website called from.ae they are based in UAE and the phone was delivered in five days.
Tbh I still haven't worked out the difference between the d856 and d858
One thing I noticed is that on mine there's barely any LG app installed (I think 2) which is surprising coming from a Samsung s4...Not sure if this is standard on LG phones or it's just this version

Hi c1181427,
Thanks for the info, I'll look into it now. Did you have to pay any customs on the phone?
Samsul,
Thanks but I live in Aberdeen, and work just outside the city. The 800mhz frequency already has poor coverage and so I don't even want to think about how little I will see 4G speeds if I am restricted to only the 2600mhz frequency. I'm not actually sure the 2600mhz frequency is in operation here anyway.

Hi guys, I bought a 858HK and it does not have the 800Mhz for 4G in UK
I also got slapped on import duty by £80
so the phone cost me £460
I am willing to sell if anyone wants it
Its a beautiful phone, very fast, the DUAL SIM is essential for work and personal and it comes with some LG apps that are much better than all my previous HTC phones
I've also had to pay £80 import duty but luckily the phone cost me a bit less
I was also hoping to get LTE 800 with my D856 (as advertized in the official LG spec sheet) but nothing...luckily LTE still works with my 3 UK SIM

Not sure if that's the case...
Got one 858HK yesterday, and so far it doesn't want to do 4G on my Vodafone UK SIM even though it does 2600MHz.
Spoken to Vodafone support and the lady who did not have much clue about the subject, could not confirm if vodafone uses both 800 and 2600, she was saying that in the UK it is only 800Mhz for LTE which is a bit odd and doesn't tie up with information provided here:
Code:
http://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vodafone_UK
On the wikipedia it says "LTE Advance" any body has an idea what that is?
The other thing is that the phone could be faulty as well. Need to try the EE SIM somewhere as that should be on 1800 and 2600Mhz.......
Edit: Apparently Voda UK does 2.6GHz in big agglomerations such as London, Birmingham, Manchester.... (this is not officially confirmed)
Hi Guys,
I am willing to buy a mid-range smartphone. I have some options like Moto G, Honor 5X, One Plus X etc. But, I want to go with the LG G3 to try my luck., as It'll be upgraded to Marshmallow. I am not sure if I am doing the right thing or not. I need your experienced advice on that.
But, I also can see there are several models of LG G3 here in US:
LG G3 D855 - International Version
LG G3 D851 - T-mobile, US
LG G3 D850 - AT&T, US
LG G3 LS990 - Sprint, US
LG G3 VS985 - Verizon, US
I would like to use it both inside and outside of US. So, if I buy the International version, will I get the 4G LTE support in US? Can I root it and install Custom ROMS in it? Because, I googled it, and I saw, Only, T-mobile version comes with Unlocked Boot-loader. Is it true?
Please, let me know, And, it would be great, if you suggest me some better place to buy this phone online. Thanks in advance.

beware of fake D855s and you will not get LTE coverage, at least with AT&T. For these reasons I went with the 851. Good luck
No LTE on the d855 in the USA. Although it really is the best version to go with, be aware of that. In the USA at least, you'll mostly run on HDSAP+ which really is fast enough for a mobile in my opinion. (Usually from 7 to 21 Mb/s)

Hardware, I think none. Not sure about the 5g thing.
Bloatware, very few Korean symbols when using English language with Korean firmware, more languages on the European (I need Romanian), VOLTE and VoWiFi might not work on Korean. Who knows about 5g? But in essence it is the Bloatware. I had an LG g7 Hong Kong edition, and changed to European. It was way faster and better for me. Maybe there are some services in the background that are trying to connect to some Korean servers and the connection is poor. Try open lge. Co. Kr to see my point.
But keep in mind that we dont have a working common. DLL to make cross flashing. Be patient, maybe in a month or 2 is released.
If you'll buy the Korean version and get some lag, just check my tutorial.
May I ask, do you had an LG phone before?
I have never had proper LG smartphone just kp500 about 10 years ago. At begins of Android everything was different. WiFi calling and VoLTE are quite important for me. V50 is intended to use with China Mobile link which use EE network. EE supports WiFi calling without any app or modification in firmware even if my primary network is China Mobile. I am concerned that WiFi calling will work on V50 only if will be flashed local software but We don't know when it will be possible. I doubt that they add support for Korean variant although EE supports most devices so maybe WiFi calling is divorced with firmware (?). Both WiFi calling and volte works flawlessly on my Pixel 2 XL bought from Google store. WiFi calling is very useful. I really like to use on V50 WiFi calling, but volte isn't must have feature. I don't know how it work on EE in UK. I am considering change network. China Mobile spy a lot and overhearing another reason my great hate to communism but they are still the cheapest and EE has great coverage. In the worst case I could change my network to keep using 4g features on V50 if somebody confirm that V50 in Korean variant is fully (WiFi calling, VoLTE) working in UK on any network.

If you are that much in VoWiFi, it's quite possible not to work with the korean firmware.
Anyway, I do recommend to buy the V50, IMO best phone on the planet.

On Korean V50 from eBay I will have some bloatware. I didn't even suspect that flashing clear firmware for European unlocked variant is as difficult or impossible. LG makes flashing very complicated. 1. Check screenshots for bloatware. There are only 4 apps. The one on the bottom was with problems for me. I had to disable also it's permissions and write to system setting turned to No. My phone was laggy because of it. Now it's rocket!
2. It's a matter of weeks until we will be able to flash firmwares.
3. Then you'll have VoLTE and vowifi
4. Nfc not only works, but it also have card cloning. You can pay anywhere. I mean anywhere! However LG Pay app is not supported in my country. Maybe it works in UK. I am using third party apps for payment. Check screenshots.
5. No other disadvantages.

Hello, Trouble!
I am on v11m august Android 9 which gave me 4k 60fps with Super Steady Mode.
How can I install the v17a? Where to look for it?
L. E. It seems v17a is for G8 and, yes, v18a is for v50. Thx, searching for downloading it right now.
Nothing found. Maybe it will leak in the next days. ?

It's not uploaded yet. Plus lg didn't add android 10 features in beta version
Thanks you all for explain how difficult is flashing branded version from carrier. Finally I bought G8s thinQ from local UK stock. Phone is absolutely brilliant and I really love this device. It has the only one disadvantage. Screen resolution is FHD+ and it really hurts my eyes, when I compare with my old Pixel 2 XL I feel extremely disappointed. The difference is huge. When I firstly noticed blurred tiny fonts I thought that cl something must be broken. I was cleaning screen few times, but it didn't help so I was looking in settings how to setup full resolution or disable option which cause blurred text unsuccessfully. Pixel 2 XL has low quality screen but believe me I prefer poor WHQD screen then even the best FHD screen as I read a lot and I am use to scroll pdf documents. Currently all Korean V50 thinQ in low price are gone. I don't know what to do. I love this phone but hate screen in this phone. I will probably send it back although it's (proper) amazing phone.
