So I really want this phone but I don't want to use AT&Ts service. Can I just Buy one straight from HTC and pop a T-Mobile sim in it? Or do I need to sim unlock it first?
Depends on the version you buy. BUy an unlocked phone, and it's as the name suggests, unlocked.
If you buy it directly at HTC you will deffinitly get an unlocked device
Ok thanks guys

How do I unlock a T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro 2? Are there any benefits to unlocking the T-Mobile version? I have a T-Mobile HTC Touch Pro 2 that I'm going to be putting up for sale (ebay). All the phones that I've seen listed on ebay are already unlocked and I would like to know if I there are any benefits for a potential buyer in unlocking mine before listing. Any input is greatly appreciated.

You would have to either buy the unlock code if its available somewhere and put in lets say an AT&T sim card in your phone and enter the unlock code or wait for XDA Dev's to come up with a work around.
Benefits of having the phone sim unlocked are that it can be used by any service like AT&T or other GSM svcs.
How much you want for it ??
I was actually thinking of doing this myself. Unless the ATT version come out soon, and isnt that stupid maroon color I will probably try and get the T-mobile version and unlock it.
The T-Mobile version does not have AT&T's 3G bands! If you do not care for 3G, why not buy the European version which looks better?
Hi people.
Just bought myself a HTC One X locked onto T-Mobile network.
I want to use it on Orange UK.
Anyone know if the SIM unlock codes are available?
Every site I go to advise me that the codes aren't available yet.
Is there another way of being able to use my orange SIM with the HTC One X?
Thanks
There are people selling the codes on Ebay, and there is a Tread (closed though) of people who have successfully used these services: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613613&highlight=unlock+code
Check ebay though as they are some for as cheap as £4.
Nice one gaiden, I'll give it a go.
Thanks for help.
A novice like me needs all that I can get!!
Aaaah, just realised why I'm struggling. Apparently the phone has to be at least one month old for IMEI to be registered on server. That means the waiting game......
Cant you just phone tMobile and ask them for a subsidy pin ?
ermmm tmobile and orange are the same company.... is the card being rejected out right?, i can switch between orange and tmobile with no problems with my tmobile card, and my wife has a locked wildfire s to tmobile that happily runs a orange card.
Yeah tmo and orange are now the same network. You shouldnt need to unlock for this.

That is the exact reason why I bought the phone, thinking Orange & T-Mobile have merged into one.
The thing is they share their network coverage but they are still two seperate companies. This was confirmed by Orange UK. And T-Mobile won't deal with me because I don't have an account with them.
So I need to find someone who does have one, or set one up (which I don't want to do).
All the official HTC Unlock sites don't seem to have code available and give me a refund straight away. I'm going to try a couple from EBay this morning to see if they're any better.

T-Mobile will only unlock a handset that is registered to the account. I.e purchased with the number at the same time, as imei's are linked.

What method did you try ?
the ebay unlocking method worked fine for my t-mobile phone,
Unlock codes!?
Am I missing something,
If you flash an RUU rom surely that will unlock it?
I presume using Ebay Unlocking techniques also risk voiding warrenty?

Flashing a custom ROM does NOT SIM unlock the phone. Unlike unlocking/rooting, SIM unlocking does not void your warranty.
I've used HTC SIM Unlock before and they always been to work. They have a money back guarantee as well. Never trust those unlockers on eBay. I've been scammed too many times. http://www.htcsimunlock.com/#oid=1096_1
Your other option could be to get a PAYG sim card and call them from that. They might unlock it for you as you would have an account with them then?
I never thought of that, ie, getting a PAYG SIM card. Should have done that! Anyways, after many unsuccessful attempts in getting the phone unlocked (the number of refunds I got on my Paypal, I had numerous security checks on my card!), I eventually got hold of the person I bought the phone off. He's kindly got in touch with T-Mobile UK, and for £15-32, they'll unlock it for me. It will take between 10-28 days, so I'm expecting it to come through some time this week at the earliest. I know it may be dear, but I also know they will be able to unlock it, as its their network.
Anyways, thanks for all the help guys!
I just unlocked my one x at unlockcode4u.com and as I made a video they just refunded me, so eventually I didnt pay anything.
My HTC one X is the best phone ever
Right now my HTC one is on a share everything contract with VZW, but I'm going to be moving to France for a year and I'm curious as to what my options are with it. I believe I read somewhere that if you buy out your contract the career can unlock the phone for you and you might be able to use it on French GSM careers like Orange or SFR.
Will VZW really unlock the phone if I buy out the contract? Will the unlocked VZW HTC One then work with French GSM carriers? Any other flaws in this plan that I'm missing?
If my One will work then I'd rather keep it, if not I suppose I'll grab an unlocked Nexus 5.
The SIM card slot is already unlocked so you can just pop in a new SFR or Orange SIM when you get to France
I can confirm this too that its already unlocked, I am using this phone in Karachi Pakistan on GSM carriers without any problem.
To be on safe side put your phone in global mode from settings / phone menu.
Best of Luck
yes it is unlocked.
using it in India.
Hi Fellow Members,
Forgive Me I donot Understand Any technical Android words like Bootloader, S-OFF, Root Etc
In Short I am a Prospective ANDROID NOOB!!!
Would appreciate your help in the following matter.
I would like to buy a HTC ONE M8 from the US.
The only deals I can get within my price range are BAD ESN Sprint and Verizon Phones.
I Intend to use the phone on GSM Networks in the United Kingdom.
Can you please answer the following questions
1) It is my understanding that when you insert a sim in a cdma phone (Sprint or Verizon) It will always ask for an unlock code?
2) Cant I just buy an unlock code off the internet without having the need to Boot,Rom,S-Off? and just unlock the phone to all GSM Networds Throughout the world. (Except US)?
3) Did any just try the unlock code? Did it work for anyone here With a BAD ESN? I dont mind spending a few dollars to get the phone unlocked.
4) Once unlocked through unlock code. Will it remain unlocked even if I Change Sims?
Please bare in mind The phone is for Use outside the US.
Can you fellows Please guide me regarding the same.
Thank you very much.

Sprint does not prompt for an unlock code (100% sure about that). As far as i know, Verizon is already sim unlocked for non US carriers.
2) Cant I just buy an unlock code off the internet without having the need to Boot,Rom,S-Off? and just unlock the phone to all GSM Networds Throughout the world. (Except US)?
No, it will not work. There is no unlock code prompt for SPRINT.
3) Did any just try the unlock code? Did it work for anyone here With a BAD ESN? I dont mind spending a few dollars to get the phone unlocked.
I have tried to purchase a SPRINT unlock code, i got the unlock code, and then i was refunded because there is no way you can enter that unlock code.
4) Once unlocked through unlock code. Will it remain unlocked even if I Change Sims?
As stated above.
The best approach should be to buy an unlocked device. However one other approach should be to buy a Verizon/Sprint phone, and then buy $25 sunshine S-OFF. After that you can SIM unlock using the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708567
I did it on a Sprint M8, however it had a clean ESN.

Thanks mate.
I'd be very cautious if I were you. The radio bands for the Sprint and Verizon M8s are different (see here). Whilst they both look ok to me for 3G usage, you may find that one or the other (or both) might never work on UK 4G networks.
Regards,
Dave
Don't cause yourself problems. If you are in the UK buy within the UK or you'll have warranty problems. There are just as good deals available in the UK if you buy outright. You can buy brand new on eBay for around £450

That's one of my main concerns when it comes to my M8...Also imported my device from the UK to South Africa. So I'm really!!!!! Hoping all stays well and the device doesn't have problems, exactly because of possible warranty issues :fingers-crossed:

From my understanding Sprint phones are tricky, because they don't come unlocked.
I bought a Verizon M8 last week from the US (God ESN) an I'm using it with no problems on a Italian GSM network (Vodafone). The only issue I had was that tethering didn't work but i flashed Viper ROM and everything now works great including tethering.
I now want to buy one for my wife and I found a great, almost new Verizon M8 (450$) with a bad ESN. Does anybody know if i can use this on Vodafone in Italy?
Hi guys,
I purchased an ATT HTC one m9 when they first came out which I unlocked and had S-off. I dropped it at work and it got all chipped up and was acting up. I have been wanting to get another ever since but really couldn't afford it. I see now that Staples has the Verizon HTC One M9 for $200. I am thinking about buying it. I use a nexus 5 on straight talk TMO now. I mostly use my phone at work where TMO and ATT seam to have the best Internet connection. If I use a straight talk Sim in it and it doesn't get a good connection at work can I SIM unlock it, root it, and S-off and it will support the proper bands for AT&T and TMO?
Thanks guys,
Rocky
Ps. Do you guys think HTC will fix my AT&T unlocked, S-off, rooted m9 under warranty for free or for a small fee?
Verizon phone's come factory unlocked.
But why not get one for T-Mobile or At&t as they would be fully compatible as a Verizon M9 something's will not work fully..
