Hello , this is my first post, i 've read a lot for my 2 precedents phones, galaxy S and ACE.
I just bought the Note 2 that i just want to root.
I saw different methods , i really appreciate the Chainfire CF-Auto-Root v1.0 because it stays with stock recovery.
My problem is warranty. I understand that i can reset my counter to 0 with Triangle away . But after i have to unroot to get back warranty.
The only method i saw, is to flash ROM with Mobile odin
But my note 2 doesn't come with stock ROM but with my operator ROM which is ORANGE.
I searched on samfirmware, there is no such French Orange ROM for Note 2.
So I wonder if There is (or will be) a method to Unroot without flashing new ROM
or a method to create a flashable ROM from my untouched Note2 (which i think is just a dream )
or do i have to wait Orange post a new rom for the Note2

Better wait for a Orange rom you can flash with Odin after you choose to unroot. After flash perform a full wipe in settings, backup and restore, restore to standard or something like that. After the flash and restore you`re in stock condition

If you root now and there is a problem with the device and you turn it in rooted an with no original firmware, it may lead to the loss of warranty. You may have to pay for repairs out of your own pocket then
Than you so i will wait.
and pray chainfire or someone esle post something to unroot without flashing,
because if not i will certainly wait very long after Orange
If you root with Chainfire's auto root, you can unroot from super su setting, there is option to unroot completely. May be it leaves some footprint but I don't thing it is visible normally.
But don't forget to remove everything if you have pushed manually in system rom(like some mode or application you have copied) after unrooting you can't remove.

I thought unroot in super SU was only temporary for developpers or to use applications that won't start if phone is rooted.
I will try it on my galaxy ACE. And hope it will work in the same manner on the note2.

i found the option in Super SU
But i wonder if,as The note 2 is new , unrooting could be also different as other phones. And perhaps unrooting method of Super SU won't work on Note2. Or unrooting is universal for all android phones.
Any way to know in an other way than trying myself ? .
Off topic: I know i'm new user but could someone tell me how long do i have to wait before i do not need to write CAPTCHA each time i want to post, or is this last forever for everyone?
Supersu works where it is available, but if you have rooted device with kernel integrate with Supersu, it will remain root device on next boot..

I've been looking for an answer to my issue but could not find it so may I ask you for help, please?
I have rooted my SGSIII (the process added CWM and superSU).
After a month I recieved the update to JB4.1.1; I installed it and the root acces was disapear but SuperSU app stills there!!
I want to root my phone again, Do I have to uninstall SuperSU before I manage to root with any method for JB 4.1.1?

SU Not working
I attempted rooting my AT&T SGH-I747 Galaxy S3 (Android 4.3) using CF's Auto Root. Installation went fine, rebooted through recovery.That's when things went south. I keep getting Android security warnings, and SuperSU continuously FC's. Root checking apps are unable to get root access. Any ideas to get it working?

Wow! That is very very old! You should read the sticky threads and search the General and FaQ sections for more recent info.
Also search xda for SuperSU and you'll find the version you should be flashing is 2.46. (Probably all you need)
Or, depending on your firmware build, you can just use Towelroot. (Page 1 in general section)

The thing is that I want to install manually root access because I want to install clockworkmod and a costum ROM. Although I installed towelroot as you mentioned and I granted root access, now if install a costum ROM the towelroot app will be deleted so I loose root access right?
I also tried flashing SuperSu 2.46 before towelroot but still, no root access.

Any rom you flash will be rooted so you don't have to worry about that. Just flash your recovery and then flash your rom. That's it.

Then,what's the root for? So we can just copy the roms/recovery zips into our sd and flash them?
Root allows you to read\write the \system partition, and parts if /data that are also protected. It only affects things when booted into the android OS. There are lots of things you can do with it. Debloat, modify, tweak, etc.
Pretty much all custom roms are already rooted, and all you need to flash them is a custom recovery.

Hi I want to unroot my G3 so I can get marshmallow without the fuss and stuff. The thing is flashing a stock lollipop will delete my data, which to me is very important. So I really have no idea of how to backup fully(except rom) other than taking a nandroid. Are there any other ways of unrooting which will undo my mods and stuff, keeping in mind I'm on a stock rom which is rooted, or any simple way to do a backup and restore from a rooted rom to a stock rom.

If I'm not wrong, when you flash the .KDZ it will un-root automatically your device. But just download Titanium Backup and backup all your apps, then install the bumped version of the MM (if you don't have TWRP installed, it is very easy to do it in LL).
I don't remember if Titanium can install all your apps back with theirs respectives datas without root, but you can root the device again if you install the .zip via the custom recovery. You can do it as well if you flash the KDZ, but as I have installed the bumped Marshmallow, I'll let someone else explain it to you.
Of course, if you still want to unroot, as you are in lollipop you probably used Kingroot or some app like that. Just open the app and try to find an option to unroot, most of them have it right when you open it.

And so do I. There is a bumped version of the LG MM, it is right on the Android Development first page, just download and flash it if you don't want to lose your custom recovery with the KDZ

You can always root it again and restore your data using Titanium =P. The recovery is only needed to flash custom roms ou .zip files, like Viper4Android (although you can download the non-official one from Play Store), mods and etc.
I know there are some apps that don't need neither root nor custom recoverys, but I haven't used any of them, so I will let someone with more experience in that area explain it to you.
Just one more thing: I saw that there are ways of downgrading back to lollipop if you flash the official KDZ, but they're a little bit tricky, so I still recommend you to flash the .zip through TWRP (upgrade it to the 2.8.7.1 version if you haven't done it already). Honestly all I really want is to get rid of root on my phone. Would SuperSU's unroot work so I can get to a state where I can use OTAs again?

There are 2 ways to get stock marshmallow running on d855s now:
1. Flash via TWRP 2.8.7.0 by following instructions from here.
2. Downloading KDZ file from here and flashing using LG Flash Tool 2014 or LGUP tool.
I would recommend that you use method 1 since you are rooted. You can use TiBackup to backup your apps+data and after flashing you will still have root and you can restore apps+data using TiBackup.
Also, method 1 is better than method 2 because if you use method 2, you will lock your bootloader and lose root. You MAY not be able to downgrade to Lollipop, and I don't think there's a reliable way to root stock marshmallow just yet.

I think you're misunderstanding me, I'd like to go back to an unrooted version of lollipop and eventually get the official marshmallow update. I don't want to get involved in flashing and stuff, it's just time consuming. So to sum it up - go to unrooted lollipop with all my data(no root mods) and wait for official update.

i think you can use an app called Helium. Then go back to stock using LG Flash Tool 2014 and lollipop kdz

He wants to unroot the phone and keep all his data, so the only way he could flash the LL kdz and keep his apps would be rooting again and installing the backup using Titanium.
@OP, what root metod did you use? Helium propably will work, but I haven't used it yet. Try opening your SuperSU app and selecting the option to unroot in the settings. Most of 'em have it.

I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197? to root. I'd use the unroot on my SuperSU but I'm not sure if it'd get me to a state where I can use OTA again. Would I unroot automatically if I updated my phone via a PC?

If you flash the KDZ using the CSE_Flash option, yes, it will unroot the phone. If you just dirty flash it, I don't know, maybe.
If you unroot by using the option in SuperSU, you'll be able to update using OTA, you will only have some issues (aka bootloops) if you have a custom recovery installed. If you have, don't EVER try to install ANY OTA.

I used autorec to get twrp(fairly sure I don't have the latest version of twrp either) would I be fine for ota if I use autorec to go back to stock recovery and then unroot via supersu?

By repairing, you mean just unroot and install the stock recovery back? I don't think so, the .KDZ file is a full OS. If you flash it you will have your stock recovery and will unroot, but your phone will be factory reseted

Oh so that's a dead end. Anyways for some reason autorec can't restore stock recovery, are there other ways of doing that?

I don't think there is any option besides restoring the stock recovery. I've seen a way of doing in somewhere in a Brazilian forum, but you would have to have a backup of it, which I don't think you do. Anyway, your best chance is to use titanium backup to backup your data (and move your photos and videos to the sd card), restore the system by flashing it using the flash tool, root it again, restore everything using titanium, and unroot. But I highly recommend you to keep your device the way it is, and update just when there is a deodexed Rom or a custom stock Rom available. After you get used to having root and a custom recovery, there is no turning back.

I bought a second hand Samsung Galaxy Tab S a few months ago and it has been working fine.
However, when I looked at version of Android then seems a bit old (5.0.2) and when I did a check for updates it said that it couldn't update because "The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorised way". When I checked then it seems that the device has been rooted.
A quick search suggested I should run SuperSU to remove the root. So, I had to download and install this, but, when I run it says "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?" - if I do then I get another message "If you have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM that can be used to (try to) install the SU binary" and gives me a choice of Normal or TWRP/CWM. I am struggling to know how to proceed.
So, should it be possible to remove the root and still preserve all my data, apps, settings, etc?
If so, is SuperSu the way to go or are there other tools I should look at, such as Kingo Android Root?
Or, am I faced with rebuilding with a stock ROM?

If your root manager is supersu then it has the option to unroot in it's settings.

I've tried to fire up SuperSU, but, run into problems, as described in my initial post, and this is what I need to resolve.

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the end goal. As stated Android v5.0.2 is the latest non-custom firmware available. As a previous owner has unlocked the bootloader and seems to have flashed a SuperSu version that modification is blocking any OTA update to v5.0.2. It is also clear your trying to avoid loosing user data.
Would it be acceptable to be rooted and use a different method to apply the latest Samsung stock firmware for your region? If the answer is yes install a TWRP recovery for your device model but you'll loose your warranty by tripping KNOX (you may already be in that state). Follow the instructions in the TabS TWRP thread.
Then finish the SuperSU install (where your stuck today). Then install Flashfire. With Flashfire and the downloaded latest Samsung firmware package you can flash the boot and system images to update your install then use ODIN to update the Bootloader image from that download firmware. You could also flash the recovery image but that would overwrite TWRP and in your case I don't see the point. Flashfire needs the whole Samsung firmware file to be available on the device itself unlike when using ODIN to flash the Bootloader image.
As I'm rooted but retained my warranty I use FlashFire and ODIN to update to the latest stock firmware and never loose user data. Unfortunately to root and not trip KNOX I did wipe my user data that first time so it does not seem to be an option for you.
Hope that gives you some ideas. In your current state it maybe as simple as completing the SuperSU install (assuming a custom recovery (TWRP/CM) is already installed) then using Flashfire and ODIN as described.

What's the best way to root, unlock bl and install custom recovery? I've been searching forum for past few days but most of the download links redirect to d-h.st. and that breaks the chain of needed files.
Also i never used flashtool and i don't know should i use Sony flashtool or "original" one

I guess I don't have to open a new thread for this: I've been reading a lot about this recently and trying to get my thoughts straight about this:
I found PhilZ Dual Recovery (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647480) which works with locked bootloader. Some people wrote there they installed the recovery on 5.0.2, so it seems I have to downgrade first (I'm on 5.1.1), even though it doesn't say that in the manual..? - if you can't answer that I'll ask that later then in the linked thread.
Next thing: I rooted with Kingroot, but want to switch to SuperSU - cant switch because theres a problem with the binary, so I have to flash it anyway through custom recovery.
Can I now root with Kingroot, install PhilZ Dualrecovery and when it boots into Recovery Mode, can I just flash the SuperSu.zip?
OR would I need to boot normally first after custom recovery install, then uninstall Kingroot, to unroot, and THEN flash SuperSU in Recovery?
Ive been using root for years but never really got into flashing before so I'm quite new to that and appreciate your help. Thanks a bunch.

Next thing: I rooted with Kingroot, but want to switch to SuperSU - cant switch because theres a problem with the binary, so I have to flash it anyway through custom recovery.
Can I now root with Kingroot, install PhilZ Dualrecovery and when it boots into Recovery Mode, can I just flash the SuperSu.zip?
OR would I need to boot normally first after custom recovery install, then uninstall Kingroot, to unroot, and THEN flash SuperSU in Recovery?
Ive been using root for years but never really got into flashing before so I'm quite new to that and appreciate your help. Thanks a bunch.

You don't have to downgrade to flash NUT. It's been a while since I did it, but I'm pretty sure that flashing supersu won't totally remove Kingroot. Best thing to do once you're rooted, if you don't want to unlock bl, is probably to install recovery, then in recovery flash a prf, which will wipe your system and install new system with supersu instead of Kingroot.

I don't trust any universal rooting apps. Only way to legit root your phone is to downgrade to kitkat and then root using exploit, then flash prerooted lollipop (that is if you wan't to stay on stock rooted rom). If you don't plan on staying on stock room and only want quick root you have to use kingroot since that's only universal root that can root z1c. When it comes to recovery there you have two choices. To use xzdualrecovery or to unlock bootloader (you will loose drm keys which means you will lose stuff like x-reality) and flash normal recovery. I would go for dual recovery because if you ever wan't to get back to stock you can since stock recovery isn't getting overwritten with xzdr. But if you choose to unlock bootloader first backup TA (you have to be rooted) and then unlock.
