Kindle fire stuck - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys so I have a rooted kindle fire 1st gen running 6.3.3. I rooted it no problem and got the play store and have just been chilling. Recently I wanted to install a custom rom so I downloaded cm11 and gapps and went to twrp (here comes the mistake). IFirst, I realized that my version of twrp was too low (2.2.1) so I downloaded 2.7 and flashed that. Then I wiped system, data, cache, and delvik cache, and then realized I lost the rom to install. So now I was stuck on twrp with no os and not able to boot. I powered off the kindle so I could connect it to the computer and then adb push a rom onto it. Now when I try to boot the kindle into recovery it shows the blue teamwin logo and then stays at that, occasionally flashing black as if it was trying to load. Any help on how to fix this because now I can't even get into recovery and I can't boot.

If you can get into twrp there is an option to mount usb which makes it show up on the pc as an external drive to easily transfer rom file to. May need a factory reboot usb cable at this point or try to run the rooting utility again if it shows up as add device to reinstall recovery

So I followed all of your advice and now I'm smoothly running cm11 with your reccommended gapps. However, I can't reboot my kindle as when I do, it gets stuck on the cm11 boot animation and I have to go back to recovery and reinstall the cm11 and gapps. Any suggestions?

This is exactly what kept me from updating TWRP the last several days. Flashing over itself from inside the about-to-be-flashed app just seems wrong.
So you guys are verifying that it works?

I updated TWRP through GooManager. Once in GooManager, select Flash ROMs and it will ask you if you have a recovery. Just select "Try to find one for me", and it will allow you to download and install with one click.
the safest way to update twrp is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500935
what is the latest version that can safely be placed on KF HD 8.9
Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but i am having difficulty finding the information elsewhere. i"m currently running TWRP 2.3.3.0, and would like to upgrade to the latest version. I would like to know what the latest version of TWRP i can safely load on a KF HD 8.9 is. I see that version 2.4.4.0 is what was used in Hashcode's instructions, but I'm curious if that is the latest version that can be run, or if 2.5.* can be used.
Thanks!

[Q] Stuck in Bootanimation

Hi guys, this is my first time to flash my Kindle. I rooted my KF using KFU V0.9.6 and installed TWRP 2.3.1.1.
I have may OS backup in TWRP. I flash AOKP Milestone 6 and it keeps rebooting. So i tried other roms. I flashed gederom, jandcane and cm10/sg7 but all of them are stuck in bootanimation. This was my guide in flashing my KF, techhive.com/article/258452/how_to_install_ice_cream_sandwich_on_your_kindle_fire.html,
I followed all the instructions there. Guys help, what do i miss? I can still recover my stock KF OS. TIA
Here is a link to Amazon's website for the official stock software to flash on the Kindle if you want it back to being just like you took it out of the box brand new. You'll have to re-root it if you flash this stock software. Hope it helps http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200790620#download
Thanks guitarman. I can restore the stock os.But I still want to flash.

HELP! I think I messed up :( CM10 Nightly

Ok, So I went back to Gingerbread because I wanted to do a "clean install" rerooted my phone and decided to try out the latest (20130103) Nightly CM10.
I flashed the rom first, because im an idiot noob.
ended up flashing to JediX which I already had on my phone so i could get back to download mode.
Downloaded the Radio and Gapps.
Followed the wiping procedure on the TeamChopsticks site
When I rebooted I got the Blue CM circle, its been going on for 20 mins.
What do I do to get this working?
I am ashamed. :cyclops:

what you should try to do is to into recovery mode
then factory wipe also wipe dalvik cache
after that flash your radio first
then flash your rom
then flash the gapps
after that reboot and it should take a while the first time
if it freezes try taking out the battery and reboot it again

Have you tried twrp recovery? With that one you don't have to worry about using the darkside scripts. Just full wipe and flash the rom. If you have root, the goomanager app can install it for you.

HELP! Somehow my phone got bricked and I need help ASAP

Hi guys, longtime lurker but I've been active on Android Central. Not a noob when it comes to flashing roms, but I think I did something wrong today when trying to flash liquid smooth, coming from cm10.1. Can someone please help me, PM me and I can get a chat or phone call started?
Please and thank you.
Please tell us what you did, and what the phone is doing? Can you get into custom recovery or download mode?
Sent from the future via Tapatalk 4
Ok. So I was running CM10.1 RC4 I think, and running TWRP 2.4 or something around that version. I downloaded the latest liquidsmooth apk, gapps, and BMS kernel. Wiped cache, dalvik, the rom and system. Then I kept getting this error while wiping:
E:error not a directory
error opening "/data/lost+found
Then I flashed liquidsmooth, gaps 3/1/2013, and BMS and restarted. What was weird was The rom flashed ok and I think the kernel was fine, but I had no gapps upon booting into liquid smooth. Redid the wiping process and installing process, same result. Started googling how to fix the error I was getting and someone recommended wiping the data.
So I wiped my data. A big red triangle showed up and I thought I was doing the right thing. When I try to boot my phone, its stuck on the "Samesung Galaxy S3" screen. I try to go into recovery mode, but all that shows up is the TWRP splash screen and then my phone reboots into the bootloop.
I'd appreciate any help, I know i screwed up here.
Edit: I can get into download mode evidently, and it shows my binary count as 1.
Ok so your saying you can not boot into TWRP?
Edit: do not panic, the fact that you get to the Samsung screen is good, you are not bricked.
If you can not successfully boot into TWRP power the phone off and do power+volume down +home at the same time and see if you can get into download mode? If you can then you will need a computer and we can reflash to stock.

I can't get into TWRP. All that shows is the splash screen and then reboots. So I cant get to any of the wiping/installing options.
I think you just formated everything, as long as it still boots up, try reflashing TWRP, then try flashing again

How would I reflash TWRP?
If you can get into download mode you can use odin to return to stock using these files http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=233
Real simple. Then you would just reflash your custom recovery and root your phone again.

Next time don't flash the ROM, the gapps and the kernel all at once.
Make sure you flashed the 3.4 kernel as well. If you downloaded the 3.0 ... You soft bricked your phone. Its fixable.

Wipe/factory
Wipe Dalvik
Wipe cache
Flash ROM/gapps.
Set your phone settings to the way you prefer. Always let it set for about 5 minutes. Make a back up.
THEN flash kernel, giving that its flash able, which BMS is. Let kernel set for about 5 minutes as well and tweak and tinker as you please.

You're most likely getting that when doing a Dalvik wipe. Just continue to wipe you're dalvik cache. And everything else before flashing your new ROM.

[Q] What steps am I missing with my install to kitkat?

To start off the kindle had an older version of twrp and had a version of ice cream sandwich. Those work correctly and it continues to work correctly after a nandroid restore.
Fast forward to now, I installed the latest twrp and flashed the latest FFF v1.5 bootloader.
I flashed this CM11 nightly cm-11-20140702-NIGHTLY-otter.zip
and flashed latest gapps gapps-kk-20140606-signed.zip
After I finish flashing everything I can setup the kindle but once I reboot it goes into a bootloop at the CM logo that results in a colorful screen. If I power off and power on it just bootlopps at the CM logo. Not sure what else I can do. Any help is appreciated.
Forgot to add. I have tried flashing Pacman rom: pac_otter-nightly-20140701.zip and I get same results as above.

It's always been a clean flash
On a side note installing a jelly bean rom works fine and I can reboot without a problem.

Never thought about that. I just downloaded the version in the twrp thread.
OK so I have twrp 2.7.0.1. Here's the screenshot in recovery. Does your twrp look like that because my other twrp on other devices look different logo wise.

that should be fine, unless it did not install correctly. try the 2.7.1.0 zip version zip-openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-otter.zip Install in old TWRP>wipe cache and dalvik>reboot

I installed this and same thing as before. Not sure what's going on, but ended up just using jb.
Still stuck at logo?
U need to inform ur version of bootloader, twrp, and which ROM u r trying to flash. Let us know the name of the file.
Did u wipe before flashing?
Twrp7 can't be use for flashing JB. U ending up using JB by flashing ur old twrp and ROM? Or by flashing via twrp7?
Last.. Are u sure u device is kindle fire original?

Yeah still stuck at cm logo after powering back on or rebooting. File names are in the op but let me know if you need anything else. Clean instalI with a wipe. I even used the twrp version SD_shadow provided and I still installed KitKat and installed jb bit still see the issue. And positive to original kindle. I'm thinking I should make a video of my install process. Thanks for the help guys.

No idea.. Sorry.
Anyway, if you successfully install JB with TWRP 7.. That's weird.

Here's a better look of twrp version and zips I have. Also the bootloader version is v1.5 not v1.4.

At first it wasn't. I was just doing the normal Factory Reset in twrp but on the last try I included system as well. Let me try again.

Full wipe recommended when changing a system. Wait for boot don`t be impatient.

Doing that now. I don't have to flash the bootloader every time, right?

The bootloader gets flashed 1 time and 1 time only. Unless perhaps there is an upgrade you never do this in correlation with flashing a new ROM period.

Swipe factory reset then go advanced select dalvik, cache, system then swipe again. Flash rom.zip, flash gapps.zip in zip form mind you then select reboot system.
