Xbox 360 wireless controller and hooking up to the TV - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am new to the tablet theme and have a new Samsung tab s. It plays android games really well. is it possible for me to use it as a console and hook it up to my TV and use a xbox 360 wireless controller on it to play android games? I don't see why it would be any different in the nvidia shield

It is and it is not different from the Nvidia Shield tablet.
One of the biggest differences is that the Shield has a HDMI . There are also tegra only games that will not work on any other processor without root and some work. The last difference is that nvidia made a console mode for the shield to make navigation and use easier using only a bluetooth controller.
With that said of you have a controller only game/emulator you like and either a micro usb dock with video out or a micro usb to video cable, then yes you can use your galaxy tab s as a console.
Basically the answer is yes it is possible but no it is not the same as a device/os designed to do it.

Hmm...after doing some investigation.... how would I plug in both a usb xbox 360 wireless adapter and a hdmi adpator to plug into the TV? Or is it only one or the other(tv versus controller)?

Personally I would recommend getting a bluetooth controller. There may be a way to use a usb based controller and video out at the same time but I do not know it if it exists.
You will also need one of these. A mhl - hdmi connector.

Does Galaxy Nexus have MHL?

Can I hook it up to my TV with MHL then use a gaming controller to play a game off it?
It does support MHL to do HDMI out and USB support but I dont think you would be able to do it at the same time.
As you can see it supports MHL,but as said earlier I don't think you can connect a USB controller at the same time. A bluetooth one should not be a problem though.

Gamepad bluetooth + MHL HDMI
Yeah I meant a bluetooth controller while the GNex is hooked up to the TV with MHL. Has anyone tried this yet?

Micro HDMI + USB-OTG simultaneously?

I recently upgraded from an x10 to my shiny new ion and just ordered a micro hdmi cable to output pictures/video to my hdtv. I was wondering if it would be possible to also connect a USB OTG cable to the phone so that i could use a mouse or game controller through the USB port for playing games while outputting the video/audio to my hdtv?
Thanks,
Fantus
I would like to know this as well, and it would be nice to have some recommendations for apps that can run different usb devices.
This info is from here
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/01/15/smartdock-for-xperia-ion-hdmi-multimedia-docking-station/
"The SmartDock is broadly similar to the LiveDock docking station, although it has one main difference – the inclusion of an HDMI port. This means that you can dock the Xperia ion into the SmartDock station, connect it via HDMI to your TV and look at photos, watch videos, listen to music or even connect a keyboard/mouse using the two onboard USB ports. It also, obviously, will charge your phone too."
If the dock can do it, should be good to go.

I got the DK20 dock for my ion. The only gripe I have is that it doesn't draw enough power from a PC's USB port to charge the phone. You need to use the plug that comes with the dock or the ion. (I use the ion's charger at work and the plug for my x10 at home.)
A neat upshot is that the USB ports on the back can also be used to charge other devices or host a Flash drive for more storage. ES File Explorer handled the additional storage flawlessly.
I haven't tried a controller by USB yet, but I got the Sixaxis app from the Android Market. Maybe this will make it easier to pair...

I tried it out yesterday.
It really works well. Was able to play "The World Of Goo", using the mouse and viewing it on my samsung 21" monitor which has an hdmi option.
The mouse works pretty well. If you have a usb hub you could even connect a usb keyboard, which works well too.

USB Hosting Capabilities

So far I've used my Note II to host a mouse, a flash drive, and an SDXC card reader. I'm curious to know what the limits to its capabilities are. USB game pads/controllers? Hubs? Maybe even USB Ethernet adapters for wired usage?
I can update this post with a list of devices and device types that work, as we find them.
The PS3 Dual Shock 3 sixaxis controller works like a charm with GTA3. Just plug it in via the normal USB cord routed through a USB host adapter and you're good to go after hitting the pair button on the controller. Use the X button to accelerate, the square for braking/reverse, triangle to get in the car and circle to fight. The action is as smooth as it is on the normal console version of the game with no lags at all.

Use GN2 as portable gaming system? (setup question)

Here is what I know:
I can use a Samsung USB-to-HDMI adapter to display the screen on a TV while charging the phone. You can hook up a PS3 controller to the GN2 with a USB-OTG cable. I also know that you can connect certain devices to the GN2 via USB-OTG cable and a USB hub to charge the GN2 while using the peripheral.
What I would like to do:
I would like to be able to run an emulated two-player game on my GN2 while displaying on an HDMI connected TV, and having two controllers work at the same time for simultaneous two player action (ex. Street Fighter 2 Turbo for SNES). I already have a couple PS3 controllers as well as two generic USB PC gaming controllers that I would like to use.
Basically, is the USB port on the GN2 capable of being used to simultaneously charge the phone, and run the HDMI adapter and two USB controllers? If not, what about just running the HDMI adapter and charging the phone, then run two controllers via Bluetooth? Also, I see there is a smart dock (EDD-S20JWE) that looks to have all of the functionality I'm interested in, can anyone confirm this?
Thanks all.
I have never thought of that! I am also interested though!

I actually just tried this very setup the other day: HDMI out + PS3 controller. In theory it should be awesome... But I found that the HDMI out is super laggy (both in terms of framerate, and a pretty significant delay between what shows on the phone screen vs. the TV screen). I tried it on both a TV, and a PC monitor, and it was the same. I posted about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098948
It made every game I tried unplayable. I didn't even try a fighting game, but I'd imagine it would be even worse.
It makes the setup pretty unusable in my opinion, which has me pretty bummed out because I was really excited about it.
I'll just stick to GameKlip + PS3 controller for now.

screen mirroring app to TV via LAN

hi folks
Is it possible to screen mirror image from my phone (SII 4.0.4 ) to a Samsung 32C5000 TV via LAN ? I'm looking for fomething like screenshare or smartview , btw these do not working with my tv. Allshare doesn;t have any of these options just playing files. It would be really cool to play virtua tennis / nes games with usb controller on the tv.
I'm also interested in this. But I have a Samsung Smart TV Series 8. I have tried searching all over, but I never found a way...

You could just get an mhl cable???
The idea is to use the gamepad in the microUSB port with an OTG adapter so MHL isn't an option. Also wireless offers some form of freedom meaning I'm not limited to using cables.

Currently I have a Logitech Dual Action which is USB cabled but I am considering about buying that ps3 controller.
Can you tell me what's the difference between these two adapters?

Number 1 looks right
Number 2 is an adapter to turn the s3's micro USB port into an s2's, as Samsung changed the way mhl worked on s3 so you couldn't use s2 mhl cable
Just so you're aware mhl requires stock ROM and the cable must be connected to a power source as well to work.
Hmm ,.I think I'll buy the first but what if I decide to change my phone? Will it work with another Android S3 or maybe some HTC dunno ?
No problem regarding firmware as I am not a fan of custom roms.
The cable won't work on s3 as the cable is 5 pins and s3 is something like 12 but there's adapters available like number 2
Screen mirroring is possible
screen mirroing is capable in phones Galaxy s3 and above and it can be easily ported in galaxy s2 if neatROM develpoers thinks its a worthy feature like they did in feature (Multi - Window) which was also supported in phones Galaxy s3 and above...
