Delete System Apps on 5.0.1? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm rooted on 5.0.1 but I can't get Root Explorer to delete or move system apps from system/app or system/priv-app. What do I need to do to be able to do it?

Rooted today but ....

Why can't i delete any stock apps ?, i use root explorer, go to system/app folder to delete apk and odex .... my icons remain, when i reboot my phone restored the 2 deleted files.
Now i use titanium backup donate, i freeze the app and deleted the apk and odex file now the icons are gone. But when i reboot the apk file and odex file gets restored but the icons are gone because i have frozen the program
Why does my HTC Desire keep restoring the apk and odex files ???
Is my desire not rooted correctly ? i used unrevoked today.
In order to be able to delete system/stock apps, while you are in the OS, you have to be s-off. Otherwise you can do it from recovery thru ADB.
Ah....thanks for the info.

How to retain your apps even after Factory reset

Hi, after i thought i had bricked my new defy while trying to do some stuff with Root Explorer, i realised that we could retain the downloaded stuff in the phone even after a hard reset. here is how to do it:
We will need the following:
1. Z4Root
2. Root Explorer
3. Apks (applications) you want to retain
steps:
1. root your defy with Z4root. There are other methods available too but i used the z4root (permanent root)
2. install root explorer.
3. install your apks (or if they are already installed then skip this step)
4. open Root explorer after rooting your defy
5. it will state that Root explorer is requesting for superuser access
6. accept superuser access
7. go to /data/app and locate the apks. click on Mount R/W. Use multi selet if multiple apps need to be removed.
8. go to /system/app and mount r/w. Paste the apks there.
9. IMP: Do not rename the installed app names.
10. You can copy (not move) root explorer to /system/app for the same purpose. Uninstall the Root explorer from Application settings once done -> this will remove root explorer copy from the /data/app and when you reboot your phone the copy in the /system/app should be loaded (at least that is how i did)
Let me know in case you are unsuccessful.

[Q] freeze system app

are there any way to freeze any system application without uninstall?
Does any one use root uninstall?
is it possible to rename file in system/app/ .apk to .backup
Thanks in advance to everyone..
1) Titanium Backup usually used to freeze apps effectively.
2) Root Explorer can be use to rename apk file and preventing it from running. I normally rename apk to rem. No reboot is required as it work immediately after rename done. If you ever need the app run again, just rename it back to apk and it run again.
Thanks so mutch....i think this question will be useful for everyone...
so...only one doubt....is it necessary to remve the relative file in data/data and in data/dalvik-cache??
Not need to remove anything if you're only want to freeze it or disable it like what I mentioned above.
thanks....i will try immediatly
I think,,, rooted device can use R.E renname the *.apk files (/system/app, /data/app)

Click to collapse
We already talk about it if you read again above. It's assumed OP Defy's is rooted...
bloat freezer is back on the market

For those rooted, what system directory is Superuser.apk in?

For those rooted using the root injection method on the stock rom, what directory is Superuser.apk in? I installed SuperSU v2.52 from the original v2.46 but the install to /system isn't working so my SuperSU is in /data/app instead. I'm trying to find out where it was before so I can manually move it there. Thanks in advance!
It's actually /system/apps/SuperSU/SuperSU.apk (owner: root/group: root rw-r--r--). Problem is it had the SuperSU icon while it was in /data/apps as base.apk but lost the icon when it's renamed as it now has the green android icon, anyway to restore the default icon?
I tried to flash the SuperSU v2.52 zip file with flashfire and it did restore /system/apps/SuperSU/SuperSU.apk with the correct icon except the problem is I noticed with Android 5.1 lollipop, you just can't replace a .apk in /system/app by moving it from /data/app as it will not even show up in the launcher. Not sure if this is a Lollipop thing or a LG thing as on previous Motorola phones running 4.4 Kitkat and below, replacing the .apk will usually work. I've cleared the app cache, deleted the files in /data/dalvik-cache/arm, /data/dalvik-cache/arm64 and /data/dalvik-cache/profiles without deleting the folders as I don't know if it's safe deleting the folders and also clearing the system /cache to see if it makes a difference. Didn't work.

Remove system apps in Oreo (OPR6 - rooted with SuperSU)

Like the title says, I am trying to remove a few system apps and having a bit of trouble. I wanted to get rid of Messages and a few Verizon apps. Thanks for any help.
Just use a Root Explorer type app and go into system/app or system/priv-app and delete them.
+1 to the above comment.
Is there a list of apps that are safe to delete?
