[Q] Desperate HELP! HTC ONE M8 (UK H3G) - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi new to the forum and rooting , bootloading ect ect.i installed numerous things to try root my M8 , but couldnt get it to root , had a custom recovery , which was the clockworkmod. Eventually i installed sunshine and used that , didnt pay but i did a root check and came back good , started modding games ect .
This is where i went wrong , tried to install Harmon Mod, me not reading correctly until afterwords, i installed S 0FF when my M8 isnt, it had S ON
So my device wouldnt get passed the white screen with HTC one, but can get into the recovery and fastboot bootloader USB ect. So i reset everything , didnt work , so i flashed the ROM thinking it would be easy to install a new one through FLASHED USB with a ZIP file , nope.
so i followed a thing online telling me a few prcedes whicgh involved downloading a few things , in the end flashing boot.img and fl;ashing recover.img and locking bootload, which i managed to lock bootloader, but everytime i went to install this RUU thing the htc wouldn have been tryna turn on after the lock bootload so would crash.
Lonfg story ino , so now i have a complety different recovery , a kind of black and red one , where the wrtiting is small and at the top , a flashed ROPM and no idea what to do stuck on the HTC white screen.
if you have read this far im extremly greatfull.

Hard to take this post seriously. Please provide as much detail, including the exact steps you've taken so far, exact file names (I understand you can't post links yet), etc.
Honestly, its hard to help when you've basically said "I did some stuff I saw online, now please help me".
Also do a adb getvar all, and post the output (but first delete your IMEI and serial number, since they are personal info).
Its sounds like you've done a lot of tinkering, without really understanding the basic concepts and what you are doing. Slow down, and spend a couple hours reading to really understand everything, before doing anything else. There are a variety of good threads sticky to the top of the forum sections, with good beginner info, links, etc.

Debranding guidance needed from the very expert Guru

Hi Gurus,
Since the last two weeks , I have tried almost all the options to debrand the Htc Desire Orange UK version, but not success, Below was my cell stock information when I purchased it.
Htc Desire Black Edition (PVT1) not brown one
Froyo 2.2
Hboot = 0.93.0001
Radio = 5.10
CID=ORANG001
I wanted to debrand it to generic from the Orange then I rooted it with UnRevoked and S-Off through AlphaRev and executed the file "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe" from shipped Roms.
After that I got the Radio V2 Fail, When I restarted the cell, there was no display, even the charging light was off.
I contacted a person that has RiffBox, he flashed it and changed the CID from ORANG001 to HTC__001.
My cell new configuration is as below :
Hboot=0.930001
Radio=4.06
CID=HTC__001
Right now I have only fastboot and hboot access with no ROM in cell phone .
After that I tried almost all the Roms from the shipped-roms's bravo secton, they gives 2 types of error upon executing :
1. partition update failed (error on Radio v2 pu fail)
2. signature verification failed.
I want to debrand my cell to generic one , so that I can get rid of Orange stuff.
I am stuck at that point, needed the expert guidance to pass through this situation.
Thanks
No Guru answered till yet !!!
Given that you are s-off and rooted why would you not just install one of the stock rooted ROMs from the second post in this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
I personally would not have changed the CID, can you install your stock RUU anymore?
Thanks 'welshbloke70' for reply.
Well, After having flashed with RiffBox my cell is no longer rooted or s-off.
Currently I have just fastboot and only hboot menu access. RECOVERY is not operational now.
When I turned on the cell, it directly comes to fastboot menu due to no
ROM in cell after flashing. So in this case I can only install from RUU or PB99IMG.zip, the xda link you gave have all the the ROMS but for rooted cell phones.
As now I have changed CID (HTC__001) which is the generic one, so I dont get any CID error upon installing generic RUU.
Any other suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I guess the forum is out of gurus so you're stuck with us lot. Try this thread to solve your problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796975
Hi Paul,
I think the Gurus/expert are there are too much busy thats why they can not respond.
Well I saw your given link. It requires clockworkmod or Armon recovery, currently I am not rooted, so can not use the roms there.
Thanks,

Do you have a Gold Card??? Cause your problem sounds pretty bad. Since you aren't rooted and you don't have a recovery, it is pretty obvious that you can't install a custom ROM.
I guess you tried also the latest version of RUU which is 2.29.405.5 if you are from EUROPE.
From what I've read you can flash an branded RUU or another RUU on a branded phone only if you have a Gold Card. Now I don't know if this applies to you since you are no longer branded, but you can give it a shot if you haven't tried yet.
I think there is a tutorial on how to make a Gold Card even if you can't access the phone or see the screen. I'll look for it and post it here.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks 'UsManyDead' for taking interest in my case. The answers are as below :
1. Yes, I have gold card, for now its useless. Because as I know we need the gold card only if we are going to install a rom that is different from the current cell CID.
In my case I have already changed my CID from ORANG001 to HTC__001 and any generic RUU supports HTC__001 so there is no need of gold card in my case.
2. Any custom rom can not be installed due to fact that cell is no more rooted.
Only PB***.zip or Ruu can solve the problem. I have tried almost all the roms and ruu from shipped-roms. but they give 2 types of errors as I mentioned in my first post. I have also tried 2.29.405.5 many times but no success.
I know the options are becoming very few , but I hope that I will pass through this failure from you and xda community users.
Any other advice will be welcomed.
Thanks
Hello once again. I just read a little more about your problem, which is very rare but found some good threads you should read and try.
REMEMBER TO READ THEM IN FULL ( FROM FIRST PAGE TILL THE LAST ONE ) and maybe post your problem there, might be easier to get help.
First thread: ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 ( even if it is for bricked SLCD, something in there might actually help, for example how to get the PB99IMG.zip from a RUU file)
Second thread (a continuation of the first): ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831734
Third thread (where I actually found your exact problem): ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000385 . Someone explains some kind of "voodoo" to be done to repair the error you get, and there are positive results, and I think you can use the first 2 thread to get the PB99IMG.zip.
Give it a try and remember to read them in full to understand. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Can you still get in to fastboot?

Hi mate don't know if this can help you....i got usb bricked with my rooted and s-off desire. I flashed a an RUU thinking it would solve my issue but of course it just left me with a USB Brick unrooted! You can't write to that and no access with Adb. I got great help from Unrevoked page which fixed me by getting me back to root.
I summarised the process here:

Hope you might have success with your issue. If this does not help directly you might follow the link to the help page on UnRevoked.....

Thank all of you for taking interest in my problem.
At the end I have got success BUT with failure. Here is my story.
1. Erased and Flashed with RiffBox with CID=11111111 (super id)
2. Kept cell phone in refrigerator for only 5 minutes.
3. Installed the new ROM from PB99IMG.zip (PB99IMG_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.zip ) without any error.
4. Kept cell phone again in refrigerator for only 5 minutes.
5. Started the cell phone for the first time and executed setup and went till the Home screen fine.
6. Tried some games and flash intensive web sites, and ohhh the phone rebooted.
It rebooted again and again. Untill I pulled out the battery and put it again after 30 minutes, but was unable to reach home screen.
Again kept the cell phone in refrigerator and phone works for a short time before it starts reboot loop.
So the main problem is rebooting now.
I spent nearly 16 hours on net , reading forums/posts for solution but at the end found that there is no solution except the motherboard replacement.
I am in PK and here is no HTC service center. I bought it second hand so dont have any warranty card/info with me.
So its just like a piece of scrape for me.
Anyways again thank you all for the great help. May be this refrigerator solution could work for anyone.
Thanks,
Ali
Have you tried changing cid back to orange and flashing correct ruu?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
No, I didn't try to change the CID to orange. And there is no orange related PB** or RUU on shipped roms.
I dont think Orange have done some customization in kernel or any other part.
I have seen threads running the generic version on orange brand phone. So it shouldn't be a issue, however bootloop problem is not related to either generic or orange brand rom , its related to motherboard.
Have you seen any post in which generic rom is initiating bootloop while the orange rom solved it ?
Thanks,
Ali
No Ali, I haven't. Seeing that you are in the dead end, I think that its worth trying everything from scratch. Don't know much about cid change, but could it be that cid is in a few places and now that you've changed it it sort of fights itself ? Will have a look into all this a bit later, I'm far from guru, but with a bit of luck should be able to find some info.

Hi tinky1,
Well, I have complete nandroid backup (boot, data, recovery and system images). I did it when I was rooted by unrevoked (clockworkmod).
Currently I have installed stock rom '2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_ release_159811', so how can I restore my earlier backup (i will again change the CID to orange, no issue) ?
Please remember i can not root now due to boot loop problem.
Any suggestion ?
Ali
So what do you actually have working? Bootloader, fastboot, recovery? Does phone bootloop when (if you can) you go into one of these?
Currently I have working fastboot and hboot. Recovery is not working , it stuck on HTC green logo.
Normal phone startup is also not functional, it reboots itself before it reaches 'Quietly Brilliant' logo.
I have managed to install Cyanogenmod 7 but the bootloop problem still exist. Analyzing the problem.

[Q] Help needed with Desire Z

Hello,
I tried to help out a friend with rooting a Desire Z. He used the guide on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912. He was still on stock and everything and the guide pointed to that to do first.
According to him everything went fine untill he got at point "I - 4a) Manual Downgrade". After reviewing the files he had used it seemed to me that he had used the G2 version of PC10IMG.zip instead of the Desire Z version (could see it when inspecting how large the file was)
He told me that all other steps before (the temp rooting etc etc) was no problem. And after he rebooted his phone the install of PC10IMG started. After the first reboot however the phone stuck.
The situation now is a follows:
* phone does not boot. It gets stuck at the white screen with green HTC letters/logo and then does nothing
- S-ON
- Phone does boot into Hboot (version HBOOT-0.82.0000)
- RADIO-26.02.01.15_m2
- eMMC-boot
I can get into Fastboot and can send commands thru adb to the phone. However commands that try to flash result in a FAILED blabla signature. Probably since its S-ON status
SDcard is recognized (finally) and I managed to make it accept a stock rom. Many other .zips fail. System says no image or wrong image when searching for them.
I suspect the phone has a wrong bootloader (?) and will only accept G2 roms (wich would not be right since its a Desire Z (?)).
Things I tried so far:
* flash a stockrom: It did do something (saw the blue "loading" bar in the bootloader). After it's done it verifies and returns to the bootloader. The I reboot but it still hangs at white screen with green letters HTC/logo
* tried to flash other roms by putting then on the SD. Gives message no image or wrong image
* tried with adb with fastboot. Nothing is accepted.
Is this phone beyond DIY repairs? Advice or tips would be greatly appreciated (since this crap costed me already a full saturday and sunday)
Many thanks in advance!
(PS: I should have the basic knowledge about rooting, adb and such. Also I rooted my own desire Z succesfully already)
use THIS RUU directions will be there
now DOWNGRADE AGAIN which you already know

Thanks a lot for your reply!
I tried what you suggested 3 times and this is the outcome:
The program starts up fine. Checks the phone with no errors. After a few install screens the phone reboots into a black screen with silver letters HTC (same as seen with adb/fastboot I think?). It starts wiping userdata. Then it says "busy sending"; goes all fine.
The it gets to the point sending "signature" (not sure if I translate correct. I have a dutch version or at least the install was in dutch).
And after a while I get:
ERRORCODE: 130 (model-ID error)
Get right updateapplication and retry
during install it said I had image version 1.00.000.0 and asked if want to update to 2.16.531.6
Anymore advice or sugestions I could try?
Thanks in advance for your answer!
[EDIT]
Seems I can go into some kind of recovery mode (choosing recovery from menu >> gives black screen with greenish icon >> gives red triangle
at that screen I do volume + and power and it gives me a menu in wich I can choose update from SD. Not sure if that can help me in any way? Maybe there is some .zip I can install and reset everything back to factory or something?
Tried already to select something there but gives an error:
(in yellow line) E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
Sounds serious tome
Then you'll need the ruu for your model phone, got to HTC.com, find support, look for desire z, then find downloads, follow same steps as before

Tried quite a lot of RUU versions but everytime the same damn message:
ERRORCODE: 130 (model-ID error)
Get right updateapplication and retry
Tried to get unlocked bootloader with the tool from HTCdev but that gave me a message ERROR[191]: ROM not supported
Anything else I can try out? (going to try and see if I can get something of a rom thru a goldcard but my hopes dwindle by the minute
Thanks in advance for any help/advice
[EDIT]
After hours and hours of reading I can only think of 2 things myself:
1. somehow the emmc is defunct (broken or totally messed up beyond flashable)
2. it has a wrong radio version (= bricked beyond DIY repairs as far as I could read)
Therefor I descided to contact a company that can JTAG the phone and restore it to its glory. What is a reasonable price for such?
If anyone else has still some tips I'll keep watch of this thread
You can't use an older version of the software/firmware so you would need the latest from HTC, if the phone already has the latest installed then you would need a gold card to change the cid. Problem is, as far as I know, you need to at least a functioning adb access to make a gold card.
Being its hard to the version that you were running the state your phone is in, my guess you are at the latest ota, so if there was a ruu that came out for it that wasn't an ota then that will probably be the only one that works. Its a long shot, but you could call HTC (don't mention rooting just say you picked up the phone at it was like this) and ask for a link to the latest ruu so you can try and fix it, even if you're past warranty they should point you in the right direction

Thanks a lot for your advice Demkantor
According to my friend he checked for OTA updates a few days ago (was his motivation in the first place to unroot and flash a custom since he was pissed that his great device didnt get much love anymore from updates and after seeing my Desire working on a custom hehe)
I checked out the RUU versions and also read that they kinda only work if it essentially updates the device (checked the site http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision.
Tried a lot from there but only the WWE versions (CID of gsm was one of those numbers that indicated the gsm is unbranded)
For the sake of it I did make a goldcard and tried to use the extracted rom from an RUU. No luck. It sees it, sends it but fails at checking after that and returns to Hboot. Had a hope that the downgrade (step before perm root) was kinda succesful...
Gonna give it one last try with one of the none WWE versions with the lastest version number to see what it does.
I'll keep you posted!
PS: Damn I wished Gigabyte would make phones! I bet they'd put in some kind of recover rom in case the **** hits the fan hehe

[Q] Flash the normal ROM and make it "new"

Hello,
My HTC Desire HD gets stuck on the HTC screen when I try to boot it.
I am kinda new to this, so I should not have done what I did. I got this phone used and I rooted it, and tried to install a custom ROM.
And something went wrong, likely I didn't prepeard the phone the right way.. And of course, I have been serching a lot on the web, some things don't work and other this requires tools that have a bad download link or outdated.
So my question is: How do I make my phone like normal? Like unrooting and removing everything if possible..
Would be so great if someone could help me out or just by linking me to a working tutorial.
Thank you and have a nice day. And please, ask if something is unclear or if you have questions.
I have a very similar issue

Hi, I have done a similar thing, in that in an attempt to flash a custom ROM, I removed everything. Now, all ROMs just produce the HTC splash screen.
Please help as this is my only phone !!!
You both need to provide more detail on what state your phone was in to begin with and what you did to it. I have a hunch that your phones are S-On with unlocked bootloaders, and that neither of you flashed the boot.img from fastboot after flashing the ROM from recovery. But more detail on what you have and what you did is necessary.

Yes, you are right. I just flashed the boot.img with fastboot AFTER installing from recovery. Jellytime booted up. I really have to thank you for that.
And again, you are right. The phone is S-Om and bootloader unlocked.
I used a a tool named "EasyUnlockTool". It rooted, unlocked the bootloader and some other things.
But right now, I think I am going to stick to jellytime. But to help caraar12345 and me later if I want to go back to stock room, what kind of information do you need?
Thank you for helping
You can either flash a rooted stock-like ROM from recovery, in which case you'd be mostly stock, or relock your bootloader and run a RUU from your computer in fastboot, in which case you'd be completely stock.

[Q] I think I'm in so much trouble.... Need help please!

Hey guys,
I dropped my HTC One M8 today, and now it has a crack in the screen.
Well, I wanted to go back to the store to get it replaced under warranty, but I needed to unroot & go back to stock first.
So at home I tried to go back to stock and stuff, but it just didn't work. That is where **** hit the fan.
Right now, I can't boot into Android, can't boot intro recovery. Everytime I start my phone it boots into FASTBOOT USB, and I have the following screen: *see attachment*
I really don't know what to do, I've been searching for serveral hours and my guess is I hard-bricked it...
Please, please tell me there is a way to make it boot into android again...?

Yea being s-on I don't think you can what is your cid and what carrier do you have maybe someone can modify one of the ruus to work with your cid cause it seems the ruu is checking your cid and it doesn't match for the ruu so it isn't working. Have you tried reflashing twrp and seeing if you can enter recovery again then maybe restore one of the backups from the backups thread. I don't know how much help I can actually be cause I'm just a flasher hopefully someone with more experience and knowledge can jump in and help you I'm just suggesting what I would do in your situation. I hope you get your phone booted again though

Glad to hear I didn't think it was hard bricked but I know it's a real frustrating feeling when you can't boot into anything
Something f**king similar here....

First of all, he can't boot into system.
Second of all, everything you've mentioned needs S-Off. He is S-On.
Third of all, HTC US is different than other regions. Most of the other RUUs that have been made available are not found on HTC's websites. Most are leaked versions, I believe.
And no. It isn't in any RUU threads on XDA.

First of he got it fixed and booted again if you actually read the thread second of all why are you even quoting me coming at me like that with this bs as I replied in one of my posts I might be the best to help him but I was offering suggestions as no one else was helping him. Do me a favor and don't quote me no more bs like that when all I'm trying to do is help. Thank you for your unnecessary two cents

I edited it as soon as I posted it and read ahead. I agree I should have read ahead first, but as far as nobody helping.....
Incorrect.
I started by helping him in another thread. I would have continued helping him here, but I had to go out to do real life stuff.
Anyway, the suggestions you gave wouldn't have worked.

That's fine my suggestions wouldn't have worked but as I said I was just trying to offer help my suggestions wouldn't have harmed him any further either but posts like the one you quoted me on makes me not want to help or offer suggestions to no one else. I've posted some useful stuff on xda though. I'm not the most technology savvy person but sometimes I do have some useful information. Like I told him I might not be the best person to help. But there's no reason to attack me for trying to help
Hey guys, thank both for the help....
But pls keep calm and "you just know what's the best for you"

Oh. By no means did I mean to make you feel attacked.
I'm sorry if I came across that way. I was telling you that the suggestions wouldn't work and explaining why. No offense was intended whatsoever.

It's cool I'm already over it. I know there are alot more people on here smarter then me about this phone stuff. All I really know how to do is read search and flash. This is the first phone I've unlocked and rooted and stuff like that so all this is new to me anyway. So no problem man.

Chances are, I'm no smarter than you are. Read and search and learn. That's what we all do here.
And sharing knowledge is what this site is based on. Please continue to try to help others.
Just don't be offended if someone corrects you. I do agree that I could have done it in a more tactful manner though. I can see how my post might have come across as abrasive, but that was not intended.

[Q] Could use help with S-OFF and Firmware

I got the bootloader unlocked with HTC Dev and rooted, installed TWRP. I installed Revolution (?) rom but had the restarting issue I presume because of the firmware being incompatible. Searching ways to achieve S-Off leaves me a bit confused though. Could someone hold my hand through the process or direct me to where I can update my Firmware and apply the newer Roms please? Thanks.

OMG do I agree with that post! When you ask about how to do this, they point you to a thread with 300+ post and say its in there, go read... Ive been reading for 2 freaking days and Im more confused then ever!!! CID, SUPERCID, brick without them... NO explanation from there. REALLY!?
Now some people go OUT OF THEIR way to help you, where others seem to just say search the forums. With any of the searches, there is 4000+++ hits, it would be time to upgrade before I read them all. Ive read. Im still reading. Heck, I'm about to ADB back to stock to by pass s-off because of the lack of info, or its scattered across 5 or 6 threads. Sorry for the rant, but Im tired, sleepy, and cant find the info on the threads. Ive done my time reading, came out worse then I started...
Guys, I know your first few weeks at xda can be frustrating, but there are reasons why we do it this way and why requests for hand-holding don't go over well.
First, this is, as the name says, a developers' forum where a certain amount of technical knowledge is assumed. All of us were noobs once, but we got past that by reading and asking intelligent questions, not throwing up our hands and begging to be spoon-fed. If you get less-than-helpful responses, it's often because what seems baffling to you is a question that gets asked regularly to the point that people get tired of dealing with it. S-off and firmware updating are in that realm.
Second, and more importantly, once you go s-off and start mucking with firmware, there is a very real chance of bricking your phone if you're not careful. So having a solid understanding of what you're doing is critical. The people who brick are the ones who rush the process and miss or skip important steps because they don't realize why they exist.
Now, having said that, I can give you a little guidance.
S-off for the M9 is pretty idiot proof at the moment. It's only possible through a paid app, Sunshine. You download it, install it, and it will tell you if s-off is possible for your phone. If so, you buy a license for $25 and run it. Done.
Updating firmware is trickier, but this thread is the best place to start. Read the whole thing from the beginning (especially the first few posts), and if there's anything you don't understand, asking specific questions will usually get you helpful responses.
Good luck!
Good advice from iElvis to go slowly and try not to rush before gaining necessary knowledge .
Usually for example with firmware flashing thread all relevant info is contained in the first four posts written by original poster.
Basically if you are S on you may only flash firmware that matches your currently installed software.
When you have S off (as described above by iElvis) then you may flash any firmware, by changing cid if necessary.
Firmware flashing done in download mode via command
Fastboot flash zip nameofirmware.zip
Phone will flash part of firmware then reboot to download mode,
Then you enter same command again and remainder of file is flashed.
Then you're good to flash custom roms based on the firmware you flashed.

I am not new to xda or flashing roms , but definitely new to htc device. The problem is Alot of threads don't seem to explain "Why" .
your quote here has explained something so simple, that unfortunately was made to sound so complex in some other threads. Also many threads give slightly differing or slightly incomplete instructions. thats why I notice many people asking for a "FULL guide" and even some people offering to "donate if you can help me step-by-step update firmware" .
So , can i ask, just to clarify, after S-off, then SuperCID, we can flash any firmware update from any region? eg If i am from 1.32.710 i can flash 1.40.401 firmware? And ONLY then i can flash a custom rom that MUST be 1.40.401?

Yes, you can flash any firmware for your model. You can't for example, flash cdma firmware on a gsm phone (nor should you try).
But you don't necessarily have to match rom to firmware. It's advisable for best performance, but not always necessary. in this case, however, there is a conflict between firmware and kernel across 1.32 and 1.40—they need to be the same. That means you can run a 1.40 rom over 1.32 firmware as long as you have a 1.32 kernel running (this is my current configuration). But if you have 1.40 firmware, you pretty much have to run a 1.40 rom.
I am missing somethihng some where.. Ive tried the steps above, although no "guide" said anything about supercid. However, Ive tried to flash the firmware, and i do get a cid mismatch error. So I'm stuck and lost. I dont know what to do... Cid is being reported differently depending on how I get it, Adb reports htc_001, the app and the scrip report CWE_001, and I cant seem to find anything to flash to it. Im literally pulling out my hair.
