ROM for ATT One M8 OS:3.11.1700.5 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA forums. First off I would like to apologize if a thread or something like this already exists, but I already spent way too much time trying to unroot my friend's phone since his vibration motor stopped working. Basically all that I am looking for, is a rom that can be flashed on an ATT HTC One M8 with OS version: 3.11.1700.5 and HBOOT: 3.19. I tried flashing many Sense roms already, but they all don't work. What I think is that the rom's base firmware's second section after the initial number has to match the phone's OS version. An example of this would be with the Skydragon rom, where it is based on the 4.04.1700.4 firmware. But it still works even though it has a higher version number. So what it all comes down to, is that I need to find a rom that supports the x.1700 firmware line so I can flash it restore to stock (mostly at least) Also instructions for returning to complete stock while S-ON would be helpful. Last the stock rom would be the most preffered, since then I can use the stock recovery and relock the bootloader.

Skydragon isn't Sense, it's AOSP.
Try ViperOneM8 3.2.1.
Download link here.
Thread link here.
Or if you want to go back to stock, there are stock ROM/recovery threads here, or you could run the latest RUU from HTC's website.

I already tried that. It doesn't work since the firmware base is not the correct one.

Yes, you are right. Sorry. I'm trying to communicate through hangouts, and helping a few people here.
The RUU is your best/only option to convert back to Sense. The instructions are in the link I provided, and the download is at the bottom of the page. Make sure to back up anything important, because this will wipe the phone.

I tried out the RUU, but it failed saying that it is incompatible with this phone. I did download the appropriate version for the phone (AT&T) but still it failed. This was also from the official HTC website. This is why I think I have to download a version that has an x.x.1700 in its version number. A Skydragon rom that is based on 4.04.1700 works on the phone, even though the phone has version 3.28.1700 so I think that any rom that is based on the x.x.1700 line will work. I did try out some other Sense roms, but they failed since they were based on a different firmware (x.x.502).

So, do you have Dev Ed phone, or did you convert it?
There are no Dev Ed RUUs that I know of.
Would I be correct in assuming that you changed you CID/MID? And would I also be correct in assuming you are S-Off?
---------- Post added at 06:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:09 PM ----------
By re-reading the thread, if no conversion took place, you need to flash the stock Dev Ed ROM and recovery to allow for HTCs OTA updates.

The phone is not S-OFF, it is merely bootloader unlocked and is bought from ATT, so it is the ATT version of the phone with the appropriate AT&T branding. The phone was never S-OFF'ed and has no capabilities to do so, since it came out of the box with a patched firmware. And we are not going to pay 20$ for Sunshine, not because we think that it is a rip-off but it is quite hard to convince parents to spend money on phone that they do not know is rooted. I imagine that my friend's dad would be greatly agitated if he found out about him having rooted his phone.
Personal note:
I do not think that sunshine is a rip-off, as I understand that trying to crack the most basic level of a security on a phone is really quite hard and there are a lot of expenses involved.

I'm not suggesting you get s-off, I'm asking if you are.
Your phone is a Dev Ed model. You will need a stock Dev Ed ROM and recovery to update via OTA.
Go here, and search for both. They are available in that thread.

Yeah, the developer RUU didn't work either. I looked at that page but I can't find any roms or RUU's with the x.1700 firmware. I have tried multiple times to restore from a Nandroid backup that had the same CID as me but different firmware version but it always failed.
Sorry if that came out as aggressive before.

If it is a true developer edition, you might try backing up, running one of the Developer Edition RUU's to get back to 100% stock, and then see if you can get the OTA update. If this was a conversion, make sure the CID/MID are correct (which requires S-off).

lock the bootloader and flash then newest RUU
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/ruu-m8-developer-edition-sense-1-54-t2884777
Then simply unlock the bootloader
flash TWRP recovery and SuperSU and a kernel if you need system r/w

Then why did you state in the thread title and OP "stock"?
InsertCoin is a custom ROM and not stock. So you need to return to a stock ROM to install OTA.

1540 is US Dev Edition, and the OP has Euro DE. The RUU likely will not run with incorrect CID, MID. And not sure this is the stock baseline he would want to be on.

Don't know where you obtained that info, but its false. S-off is not needed to install any ROMs.
If the phone is a demo unit, you should have stated that right away in your top post. On a previous HTC device (One X) I believe the demo unit was very difficult, if not impossible to make fully functioning. But no idea if the same is true for the M8 demo unit you have.

Sounds like you just got some random advice, with an unknown link and flashed it. Why on earth would you do such a thing? Stick to XDA, at least here you can go by reputation (number of thanks, Recongnized Contibutor, or Recognized Dev titles).

As I just said in my last response, you do not need S-off to flash any ROMs. If you want help, you need to start actually paying attention to the help that is being given to you. You are also making it very hard to help you, by not giving enough info, and just leaking it out little by little.
You say you can't flash any other ROMs, but that isn't enough information. What happens when you try to flash? Does it fail with an error message? Or flash successful, but doesn't boot? What other ROMs have you tried?
If you want to return to stock to receive OTAs, you will need to find and flash the appropriate nandroid and stock recovery for our CID. Stock backup collection can be found sticky at the top of the General section. There are also various guides on how to return to stock, if you need them just search.

I glad you got it working .. sorry about the dead link, i wish Mike would leave the old version on his site longer

[Q] I got the indian m8, Am i limited to anything in regards to flashing?

Hi, I bought an unlocked htc one m8 but i recieved the indian version (m8q) and I'm not from india, Everything works fine and I called htc and they told me that I shouldn't have a problem since the indian verison comes with international warrenty.
The only thing I'm worried about here is compatibility with the stuff here on xda, will i be able to flash roms without probelms and will i be able to convert it to a gpe device if i wanted to.
The Cid is HTC__038, the model id is 0P6B65000 the software version i have currently is 1.56.720.6 and the product name (from the getvar all command) is m8_ul. Is the hardware incompatible with roms made for the international gsm version (with the sku 401) or can i just change the cid/mid or make it supercid to use it with any of the guides hosted here.
I havent been able to find anything so i would really appreciate any help.
I own the same device and to be true, the Indian Variant lacks support for all Sense based ROMs as they are based on different model with different CID and MID number. Custom ROMs work fine.
If you are very proficient with flashing stuff in HTC devices then you can use firewater to S-OFF on 4.4.2 . Ver. 4.4.3 has patched some vulnerabilities that do not allow firewater S-OFF to work nor the sunshine one.
I had already updated to 4.4.3 due to which now it's currently impossible for me to obtain S-OFF.
Also Indian Variants have yet not received the latest updates i.e. 4.4.4

Thanks for the reply, but are you saying that If i can acheive s-off and change the cid and mid will that make the device compatible with the roms or will flashing them brick my device? Also, do you have any idea about compatibilty with gpe based roms?

This is my first HTC device and the first expensive one that I bought so I am being really cautious about tampering my phone.
Yes, if you achieve S-OFF, then you can change your CID. Don't know about MID (I have yet to know more about it). Then flashing other Sense-based ROMs should be fairly easy.
But after you achieve S-OFF, you need to be more cautious while flashing anything as the security would have been totally put off and whichever file you flash will be flashed without any error and may result in your device getting bricked if a wrong file is flashed.
It will be really great to backup the important partitions like recovery, boot, system etc. if you are still stock (not bootloader unlocked and not rooted)
To backup important partitions, visit this thread for instructions. (Be sure to backup your stock recovery as it will be needed to receive OTA updates) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

This is my first htc phone too, actually this is my first high end android phone. I am just as paranoid about doing anything as you, i just wanted to make sure i'm not stuck forever, because i it was impossible to change the software of this phone i would've just sold it from now, purely because imo new software adds the most value to smartphone these days. I am a bit confused, but for now i decided to not install any updates until i figure out whats possible to do without screwing up myself

I did the mistake of not backing up recovery partition after I updated and instantly unlocked and rooted my phone but luckily I got the stock recovery from another thread.

Sorry but I seriously don't know because I never took an interest in converting my device to GPE.
I like the stock look.

Rooted, ROM'd, and wondering!

I've just finished rooting and installed a custom ROM on my device, but now I'm looking into S-Off. My question is, how?
I did this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706391
and now I don't have Wi-Fi, which apparently means that my firmware needs to be updated.
How, exactly, does one do that when you're no longer on the service provider it was on?
I'm on T-Mobile now, it was on AT&T. The phone is an AT&T HTC One M8.
I've got the files for Firewater, but I'm not 100% sure how to go about it, other than following tutorials I've found. Anyway, if someone could assist me in this search, it would be greatly appreciated.
Chances are firewater is not going to work, you'll need to use Sunshine S-off (pay 25$), S-off jas nothing to do with carrier
Sunshine: http://theroot.ninja
Firewater instructions: http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
If I try Firewater, is there a chance to royally mess up my work? I.E. brick me, or will it error out beforehand?
firewater does NOT work. and will never work again. You can own the files but they won't work as it has has to establish a connection to the s-off server which is offline. sunshine is the one and only way. you can read that in the s-off thread here on xda and on their website !
and also questions belong in the Q&A section so please use that board the next time instead of the general subforum.
good luck with sunshine

Theirs a AT&T RUU here >>link removed by request
that will let you flash some roms here, not all
You'll have to relock your bootloader to flash it - fastboot oem lock -
and when your finished updateing unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP and root

Ah, see, this is the info that I couldn't find at all. I had no idea it was server-related, so it wouldn't work. I thought all the files were local, that's why I was investigating. Well, as long as Sunshine will work and not mess anything up, I guess that's what I'm going to have to do. Even though there's another ROM on my phone, I should still be able to use Sunshine and get the firmware updated without any issues, yeah? I would just like to get confirmation from someone who knows my exact situation and not search the forums to a situation "Similar" to mine and eff up my phone.

S-OFF means do as you like, change firmwares, convert to GPE and back to sense. S-OFF is freedom
Okay, here's where I'm at, if anyone would inform me in the direction I should take...
I've unlocked the bootloader, flashed a ROM, and rooted. Wi-Fi doesn't work because I need the newer firmware on the device.
In order to get the newer firmware, I need to have S-Off. I don't. Sunshine doesn't work because the ROM I have flashed is a 5.0.1 version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706391 If it helps.
Can I go digging to find a KitKat-based ROM and see if Sunshine will work then, or do I need to go through the BS to flash stock everything on my phone and THEN run Sunshine? I'd really like some advice before I royally mess something up.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I found this and it looks like something that might work. Flash InsertCoin, download and pay for Sunshine, S-Off, flash firmware, go back to SkyDragon?

Forgive me for asking, but I've searched... Where is this rooted stock one you're talking about?
All right, I've flashed back to as stock as I can find, but it's still not allowing Sunshine to be installed.
However, I've stumbled upon something saying that if the Recovery is fastboot booted, it acts as though the device is S-Off? If I run the recovery in such a manner, could I possibly flash a new Firmware on there like that?

I did it with that one..
Okay, here's an update:
I flashed that ROM you showed me, Alex, and then used Sunshine to S-Off my M8. That worked. I paid for it, all is well.
Flashed the Viper ROM, but didn't have Wi-Fi. So, I went back to SkyDragon, same thing.
I flashed firmware 4.28.401.9 (I think. I did typed that from memory..) but I still have no Wi-Fi.
I'm going to try to flash the GPE firmware now. I'll edit once I get it up and running!
Thanks so much guys! I really appreciate your help!

If your wifi isn't working with ViperOne, then the firmware didn't flash correctly. Go to your bootloader/hboot and check the readout there. What it says under OS is your firmware version. If it is blank it is because of your recovery. TWRP 2.8.0.3 is recommended. You can also tell by the hboot number. 3.19 = 4.4.4 firmware

That's awesome to know. I literally just flashed the GPE firmware, and I think I partitioned properly. (no errors while installing) It's currently doing the first boot.
Flashing that GPE firmware was nerve-racking. It went sooo slow. Here's hoping it goes through! UPDATES TO COME! I'm excited.
UPDATE:
HOLY HNNNNNNNNNNNNNG IT WORKED.
Good LORD I CAN FINALLY DOWNLOAD MY UPDATES.
Please excuse the caps, I'm effing excited right now. THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE.
Nice that you have it working.. Don't forget.. If you want to go back to sense you need the sense firmware.. As the partitions are a bit different.. Btw I'm very happy ? with gpe 5

Right at this point, I don't care to go back to Sense firmware. I'm spoiled by the bright look of SkyDragon, so this is where I'm staying!

Return to stock from VenomRom

Hi.. I've not used my M8 for some time and I'd like to put it back on a stock rom and give it to my mother-in-law. Unfortunately I can't remember how to do much with regards to rooting, fuu, roms, etc, and I'm finding the forums a bit overwhelming.
It is an ATT phone, but the CID was changed to 11111111 so I could sim-unlock it. It's currently on 4.16.401.10, and on the ViperOneM8 v 4.6.1.
We need it to remain sim-unlocked, and on the stock rom.. I've looked around a little bit and found [tutorial] How to get back on stock with TWRP Stock Nandroid Backups. I've downloaded M8_6.12.401.4_WWE_FullStock.zip - if I flash this in TWRP will it return the phone to a stock rom, and will receive OTA updates?
Thank you for any help or answers you can give me,

You can't flash it in recovery. You need to flash it in fastboot, or via SDcard/hboot.
I've given instructions to another user recently on the ViperOneM8 thread. You can see them here.

@xunholy do I need to use 0P6BIMG_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_HTC_Europe_6.12.401.4_Radio_1.29.214500021.12G_20.72.4196t.01_release_464360_signed.zip that you linked to in your instructions, or a different one for mine? I'm a bit nervous because that says HTC Europe, and mine is ATT in the US. I'm s-off, too, while the person you were helping there was s-on

If you want to keep WWE firmware, yes.
If you want to go back to AT&T firmware (and this is probably a better option for you), there is another way.
Go here (HTC's US website). Scroll down to the Manual System Update Instructions, and read them. There is an RUU download at the end of the instructions.

HTC One M9 on Bluegrass Cellular

Back in August, I got a HTC One M9 from Bluegrass Cellular. (The phone came with Android 5.1) I decided to root it and try a custom ROM. I downloaded a snapshot for CM13 himawl. (Since that's the variant according to Download mode) I flashed it in TWRP only to get an error about sbl1. I since found an unofficial nightly of cm12.1 himawl built on November 17, 2015. It flashed and works fine to this day, but I'd like to have newer features and better security. How would I go about doing this? I can't seem to find the correct RUU. I tried the unlocked RUU to see if it would work, but it was to no avail. I'm S-on if that helps.

I'm pretty sure that in order to use a Marshmallow-based ROM (ie, CM 13), you need the Marshmallow firmware first. I imagine the same will be true for Nougat ROMs....though I don't think we've got anything beyond stock just yet.
I imagine that if you were able to achieve S-OFF on your phone, you could apply the appropriate RUU to get you up to the latest available firmware for your phone. To be clear, I don't know what that is (I'm not familiar with the himawl models) - but it should be possible.

I believe that's what's going on here. I'm just trying to see if there are any alternatives or RUU's known to work with my s-on phone before I resort to the $25 investment of Sunshine.

Just for the fact you get an extra chance to unbrick if it goes wrong is worth the $25. IMO S-OFF is a necessity for htc phones.
Beamed in by telepathy.
I tried the test in the Sunshine app, but it said to flash stock or near stock rom. I mistakenly didn't backup my stock ROM before flashing cm12.1. Anyone know a ROM I could flash to s off?

You're on Android 5, right? Android Revolution HD 14, which is built off of stock Android 5.1.0, should do the trick.
Very important sidenote: Don't change the MID/CID or the firmware of this device! It's a CDMA one and therefore not compatible with the GSM firmwares like the dev edition or the WWE one. Otherwise you'll end up with a fancy new paperweight. Just stay with the SKU (the three numbers between the second and the third dot in the firmware version) it is currently using since not even the different CDMA firmwares/devices are compatible with each other.

In my case, the SKU is 605. Is there a newer 605 I can update to access Marshmallow? I recall when I was stock, I tried to update to MM through OTA in settings, but apparently my carrier never approved the update. 5.1 appeared to be the "latest."
605 is the verizon-branded firmware. There definitely is an android m update for your phone.

Awesome! With my CID being LRA__001 would I be able to flash this?
0PJAIMG_HIMA_WL_M60_SENSE70_VZW_MR_VERIZON_WWE_3.3 [email protected]_CNV_1.26_002 _release_469809_signed_1 zip
The problem is it looks like it's WWE which you said wouldn't work.

It's Verizon WWE. That's not the same as sku 401 (WWE).
Either you try that one or you download the exe from the HTC US website.
I can't say for sure whether it'll work. According to the sku the RUU should be flashable. You'll need to try by yourself. An alternative would be contacting llabtoofer's RUU service. However that one isn't for free. (Either search for it via google or use the direct link in my google sheet if you want to use that service.)

Please provide me with stock firmware for Bluegrass Cellular.
I've lost every hope.
