hi all
i recently asked a retailer about the price for the arc and acr S recently ( dunno why but o have the urge to do so and i did ) he said the price for ARC is RM1000 and ARC S is RM 1300 which is surprisingly cheap ..and i do love the phone ..never seen anyone used it but i looks gorgeous in videos ...i just bought a galaxy ACE about a month ago and i am planning to change one at the end of the year at december ...so should i get the arc ? i know it have some crappy processors and low ram but i want to hear some opinion for the users ...is it worth the RM 1000? and i do expect the price to drop to RM800 at the end of the year ...
Look wise, the arc is top tier, hands down. I guess it really ties down to what you expect out of your phone. Personally, a phone to me is to remain a phone and not a mini laptop, so the specs of the Arc S is good enough for me. It's fast enough to do everything that I want; stream videos, browse the internet, call/email/text etc. All those hype about new phones, dual cores and etc, what is the purpose exactly? It loads a page faster in 1 sec? Ridiculous. Didn't mean to rant haha, but yeah. If you want a phone that stands out and looks good and is good for everyday use, I would recommend getting the Arc/S. Not to mention, the Camera is awesome.
Hey tohno, nice seeing u here brick guy. Im using arc s rite now n lovin it. Anyway i bought mine from a guy who just used it for two months at rm900. Its used but the guy is new with android n havent mod anything yet so i think its fair if i said that it come fresh from the shop

I say it doesn't worth it, now you have new Sony phones, hTC and many.

A medium-high performance phone, with excellent camera and versatile multimedia functions, paired with large high resolution phone for low price? Damn yeah it's worth it!
Buy Arc S
Buy Arc S ...
Great phone ...
Bought one on the launch date itself ...
Xtremely happy
sweet! then i think i will eye for the arc s then!
oh hi malice!
I bought mine 'cause it was on Special + 50€ cash back. So i got it for 350€ in last July.
Love it except the screen which is too weak. And now it is quite weak for new apps.
I'm looking to get a Nexus in a couple of month. But since i unlocked my bootloader I really enjoy it more.
This is definitely not a waste of money.

My screen has a broken line on the left side. It has been always carried in a leather holder.
Try to play GTA3 with the arc.
It is a good phone but it is (a bit) outdated.

Please don't buy neither Arc nor Arc S, you will face some very depressing problems with these phones, as Arc user I don't suggest this phone because of very poor quality of the phone. You maybe extra careful with your phone but you won't avoid housing crack, scratched screen and body damages. Housing crack appears on almost all Xperia Arc phones, as for screen I would say, its very bright and high quality but, it is not gorilla glass, and you can scratch it by mistake for example when cleaning, as I did. As for body I would say that design is very sexy but you will notice small dots around the screen, and on the back panel, paint gets peeled. My advice, hold the phone in vacuum or wait for Xperia S!

Remove the shutter proof thing.
Did it 3 months ago and no scratches!
@ OP:
If you want it, get it now!
By the end of the year it will be totally outdated, well, it is already somehow.
Looking forward to the Galaxy S III or a Sony with Snapdragon S4 as the Arc gets too slow after a few days of uptime

Really? I didnt know...cause i have dropoed my arc so.many times...i have slept over it, i aint using a screen protector, still the screen is fine! Its quite durable mate! The only problem is..it gets really slow sometimes! So even i wouldn't suggest to purchase arc. But i still love it <3:-D
Fuel The Droid©
well i am actually of buying this phone cause of the relatively cheap price...i just got my ace just a month ago but seeing the arc's cheap price i just can't resist to buy it...and by the end of the year i think arc s will be below RM1000 by then it's a sure buy ..i cant afford high end phones ( expensive ones at least ) like S2 ( it's too common!! ) , sensation etc ...
If I were you, I would buy LG Optimus 2X instead. It has Tegra 2 chipset and a dual-core processor. That makes it much better phone. Cons are it doesn't have as good camera, and the screen is a bit smaller(4.2 > 4.0).
Here in Switzerland it is even cheaper.
I've my arc s for close to 5 months and I do not regret it. It's camera is one of the best among the smart phones for the price of it. When my friend who own the iPhone 4 took the same night scene with my arc, the arc's capture the scene very well, not too bright or too dark -- like what the iPhone does.
Responsiveness is reasonably fast even though it's not rooted. Depending on how you handle the phone, mine is still scratch-free and beautiful. No cracks. The factory screen does trap specks of dust quite easily, but this can be avoided if you apply another matte filter over it.
The phone is light and still able to fit into my pocket despite it's 4+ inch screen. The big screen makes it comfortable to browse webs, watch videos and play games.
What I find a nuisance in the arc is the small internal memory capacity, which means you'll have to be selective in the apps you store in the phone.
Definitely worth buying & keeping if you're a light to medium-usage user.
Good luck in your choice!

hey all
iam confused between optimus G and xperia z.......i love optimus G UI and features and battery life and smaller size so i want to know if u met any problems with the phone? break glass ?damage or so........as lg is considered as bad company in my country (worse than sony in their opinion) so what do u think?
this will rly help me
thanks in advance
It's a really great phone, and I never had any problems on stock android. Battery life was fine, you should manage about 4-5hours of wifi webbrowsing (basically 4-5hours of screen on time). It is covered in glass that can quite easily crack if you drop it. I use a case, dropped it many times, no cracks on phone at least. It's a great phone, who cares what people think of the company. LG also makes Nexus 4, that's a "quite" popular phone. The Xperia Z is probably really good too, but will most likely cost you quite a bit more. It is of course much more durable.
Ok I have to say I am exited about this phone but now after spending some time on this forum and the sony forum I am starting to get cold feet. I don't mind changing the back cover, but I see other serious issues with the screen (there is a long thread in the sony forum about it), not to mention camera button, volume, alarm problems.
It seems for a 450 euro phone it's a lot of flaws. I know in forum it's mainly troubleshooting, but buying a phone in a country where there is no warranty is scary, see my other thread.
So what is the general consensus about reliability? Also is it true the latest phones produced have fixed the the light bleed already fixed?
I own a Z1C and I can't say anything bad about it. Please remember that happy people tend not to share their good experiences, while those with faulty units tend to exaggerate their unhappiness, making them more visible.

Don't believe everything you hear in the internet. Samsung, HTC, Apple, LG, Nokia...They all have interest to bash this phone on the net.
Great battery life, Great screen with really good blacks, Snapdragon 800, Aluminum and glass, fast 20MP Camera. What's not to love?
Never judge a phone until you hold it yourself in the store! Don't believe internet until you check it yourself, ever!
I thought the same as you until I held that phone in the store and then everything changed.

I agree with you but sometimes if u r unlucky enough then u can get a faulty product too and it can happens with any phone.. as i bought galaxy s4 and replaced 3 times but got weird display issue and finally asked for refund. As soon as i will get my refund i will buy z1 compact. So always buy from somewhere where u will get replacement easily.. and also dont blame all the phones if u get a faulty phone.. manufacturing defect can be present on any phones from any company..

Agreed. :good:
Had my z1c about a month and no problems here. I also read about screen problems before buying and was a little nervous but I've had zero issues with screen. I also read a few complaints about a wake up delay but I haven't experienced that either. No random reboots (which I had on all my previous phones) I'm still on sony's 4.3 OS. It's very stable and no reason for me to upgrade to 4.4 at the moment. This thing is the best phone I've ever had, no complaints.

I've had the Z1 for about a month now, it is a good device. But I'd say the price tag is a bit high for this device.
Display is good, but not the best for this price tag.
Camera is good, and that's all it is. I wouldn't stop carrying my camera around, but yeah, it still does take a few nice shots here and there.
Speaker is a big let down. And the software seems to be getting a bit buggy with each update. That I'm sure they'll fix.
Literally half an hour between removing the shipped screen cover which was dirty and putting on a screen guard I had a tiny scratch on the screen. Depressing.
I'm not too happy with the call quality either. But it's probably my service provider.
Pro. Battery life. It's AMAZING. 2 days easy with pretty decent usage.
(for me) New phone after a realllllly long time.
It is a snappy, quick phone. So if you're looking for that, then go for it.
If it's for videos or music, I'd give it serious thought.
At the end, there will be die hard fans and haters, you have to figure this out for yourself!
Just my 2 cents.

thanks for all the feedbacks given.
I will be using the phone mainly for maps, music, Skype, mail, internet and the casual pic here and there. it sounds strange but in the US I wont be using this as a phone beucase Verizon will force me to get data, but in Europe I am good to go.
I never had a smart phone but I had a ipod touch 4g but I need something with gps, better wifi reception and more customizable.
It's too bad the speaker stinks, I think the speaker in the touch it's pretty decent and I didn't have to carry a headphone with me when I am biking around. So perhaps that's something I should think about.
Speaker is rather good quality and clear. Only it reproduces a little lower sound.
I got this phone coming from the Nexus 4. It is a really good phone. Takes great pictures and videos. Sometimes they don't look that good on the phone screen. I cast them to my 42 inch TV and they are crystal clear. Battery is great. I really like the audio quality. Better than the Nexus 4 and 7. Call quality is good. I always have rooted my phones but this one has enough things to tweak I can get it the way I want. No need to change anything. And the great thing is even in a poor signal area the battery doesn't drop like a rock like it has on my other phones. I recommend it.

There is no real reason to replace the back cover now. It only affected early production models.
Getting a $1 screen protector for the back is a far more convenient way to keep the phone looking good, rather than swapping it out for glass.

and how do I know if it's a later production? is there a particular date? I see the production number but since I buy it online it's hard to know. Sony always has some problems with their top of the line electronics, vaio, cellphones, etc and are never good at admitting or replacing the faulty units. Look at the problem with their sony vaio 13 and wifi.
I've had mine for 2 and a half months so far and it has had absolutely zero issues. Everything works exactly as it was supposed to work. Display, back cover, camera, buttons, MicroSD card/slot, GPS, battery, you name it. It has never had any weird reboot issues either. I have tested RomAur 1.2, 3.0, and official and unofficial CM 11 nightlies. In fact, I wasn't aware of any of these issues until I read this thread.
It is a great phone. Most of the complaints are nit-picking as we strive for absolute perfection (not a bad thing!) As it is, it is better than all the competition as a good all-rounder.
I have to say owning from 3g iphone to iPhone 5 and I'm on android from lg P990 sgs2 sgs3 and 4 htc one one x and now I have this only drawback huge ugly bottom front side and uncomfortable when I use it with one hand rest is a almost perfect phone for me

Hi.
I want to get a new phone and one of the contenders is the Xperia Z1 compact.
I usually read a lot before buying a new phone about possible problems the phone might have.I did read a lot this time too.
So my question for all of you is:
Is this a good phone, is it worth my money or should i go with something else?
I read about water damaged phones, screen cracking by itself, usb flap giving up after 3 weeks and other minor problems.
I would like a waterproof phone to be waterproof, and now i am not sure what to do.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.
I've had it for just over two months, and I constantly use the USB port to charge it. The flap is a little more difficult to close now, but still looks to be sealed. I haven't dropped it in water, but I've spilled on it a couple times and cleaned it and there are no issues whatsoever. It's an excellent phone, after installing a custom ROM everything works extremely well. Before that it worked wonderfully as well, but I wanted to customize it a little more. I would maybe recommend waiting for the Z3 Compact since that's coming out in a little while, and it looks to be strictly better than the Z1C.
The Z3 compact will probably cost much more than the Z1.The Z1 is now approx. 200 euro and I guess the Z3 will cost somewhere around 500, so the difference is too big for me .
the new z3 compact will not be so compact anymore, so keep that in mind
Personally I bought this phone because it is the best hardware packed in a screen less than 4.5
And now they decided to give it more screen space which can compete with s4 and all those kinda tablet phones.
If I had to buy a small phone now I wouldn't buy z3c for any reason. Maybe a moto e but not this giant 'compact'

If you can buy the Z1c for about 200, do it! IPersonally I haven´t seen it that cheap anywhere! its an excellent phone, fast, good battery life.
Don´t trust it to be waterproof, read too many accidents.
I bought de DK32 dock to avoid stressing the usb flap with opening it for every charge.

I could have sworn the Z3C was the same size, or very close, just with thinner bezels? I'm pretty sure I saw them side by side and they looked like they had the same dimensions.
I was going to touch on the price as well, but I didn't think it would be that much higher. I bought my Z1C for 389 USD unlocked, and that was a great price for me. 500 Euros does sound really steep though.
Go for it if you're OK with screen size. I am a new user, bought the phone brand new for 350 euros just a few days ago.
The only thing - and I mean THE only thing - I am not happy about is the rather small screen. I was deciding between various screen sizes and given that my eyesight is rather weak with growing age, I kinda wonder if a 5+-inches screen wouldn't be better for me.
I still have the option of returning the phone, but of course in the meantime I fell in love with it Almost everything about it suits me. I especially appreciate the microSD slot. I wonder if I went for a Galaxy Note device how would I feel then...Never had a 'phablet' in my hands...
Happy
I bought the Z1C unlocked about a month ago for $350 (!) US. Best purchase I've made on a phone or PDA going back to the first Compac PDA. And $400 LESS than I paid for my last phone. I suggest you look around for bargains. The source for my Z1C sold out in 24 hours. But with the Z3C having been announced, the Z1C may drop in price quickly.
I'm extremely happy with this phone. Very fast; no real bugs in the software. And, unlike my last phone, I am using it without any modifications to the OS (that will come after the warranty period and after Sony stops updating the OS ). My only complaint, and it is based only on the warnings I've read here, is the supposed susceptibility to scratches on both the front and back. For that reason, I added an applique to the back and a glass screen protector to the front. Never used either (or a case) on my last phone over a 3-1/2 year period. That phone had no scratches on the front when I gave it away. But that issue is not great enough to warn you off this phone, especially if you can find it for under $400US.
Good luck with your search.
Here is a comparison between them. I would say paying extra 300$ just for the thinner design and a 801 proc instead of 800 is not worth it.
No Brainer
So far I can't fault it.
Smaller footprint than my Xperia T I feel more comfortable with it in my pocket.
I just got me a bargain on Z1 Compact £18 /month Free handset 500 mins X network unlimited texts and 500MB Data on O2 for 2 years.
Mrs Got the Z1 not too long after release date and I liked the specs but not the size. When compact was released I knew this would be the next phone.
This is my personal preference but I find all the larger phones to be just too big.
If I go with it I have to pay 13 Euros a month(I am doing it anyway ) and the phone would be around 190 Euros.
I'm a long time HTC sensation user and have modded it all the way up to lollipop. Sadly, the wife just dropped it and cracked her entire screen - just today. It was a fun, slo-mo event. Happily, that means it's time to upgrade. sssshhh I know I can buy a new screen...but it's time for an upgrade after 4+ years.
I'm pretty sure I'm going for the m8 rather than the s5, but I'm curious about any, shall we say, un-"reviewed" pit falls?
Things like:
I know the battery is non removable but the S5 has a removable one. We had the sensation so long we burned through a few ankers and it really helped the life span. Comments on the real world battery? One of the strength, to me, was the removable battery. I have an old itouch, with a, let called it, hard to deal with battery. It was nice to not be forced to upgrade when the battery became is hosed.
The modding power. I quite enjoy rooting/s-offing/breaking my phone - but ideally not bricking. I know htc has been a tad cranky in the past with this, it seems okay looking at the development community and I'm not reading up on too many issues but what are experiences between rooting/roming this vs the S5?
Any, I love this phone but, damn, this one thing really suck but there's a easy work around type things? Or it's be the best phone except the battery is ****? Things the main reviewers won't really say?
Hoping to join you guy here from the sensation forums in a few days(and of course root my phone asap)
It just doesn't feel right in my hands. Can't explain it but maybe it's just me and my dislike for curved phones. I still don't like how uncomfortable it feels to hold.

Enough that the phone isn't worth it? Have you moved on? Wished that you had an S5, nexus 5, etc? Any other major regrets besides the feel?
I have tried every other competitor till now. G3 - sluggish and heats up fast. S5 - build quality, knox and no gpe posibility. Z3 - Too pricey, low on updates and development, otherwise a spectacular phone. OnePlus - No stable ROM to date, even CM11SR44 is buggy.
The battery on the One M8 has been great for me. I always get 4-5h SOT through 1-2days. Keep in mind that I come from Z Ultra and Mi3 that both had 3000+ mah batteries.
My advice is to buy this phone, you will not regret it.
This might actually be the first phone I manage to keep for two years (thus avoiding the inevitable arguement with the wife) hahaha
Here are my problems
1. Camera covers scratch really easily. My main back camera was scratched quite badly, even with a spigen slim armor on all the time. I sent it in for repair and they replaced both the front facing and the back main covers. The back currently is being protected by a 'screen protector'. The coating on the new front cover scratched/came slightly off in about a month and I rubbed the rest away. It remains scratch-free, but (number 2)
2. Dust can get under the speaker grilles and get stuck under front facing camera. Not sure if it is due to the replacement of the covers or what. Just last month, I went to Australia for a military exercise and it was very sandy. I believe it was the sand that went in. With that said, my platoon mate using the same phone did not get even a single speck of dust stuck under his.
I messaged the service centre and they said they would clean it for free under warranty, even with my bootloader unlocked, but the technician would do a diagnostic on my phone. The CSO asked for my IMEI number to check if I was under warranty, which I refused to give. Funny part is, shouldn't all M8s be under warranty since it was released only this year?
With regards to the battery, it is definitely awesome, although mine seem to have been weakened with me abusing it.
Personally I really like it-it's my favorite phone since the HD2. I agree it can be awkward to hold and the camera can be scratched, but for me these problems were easily solved by getting a decent case for it(i.e. not one of the barely covers it slim or dot view style cases, one of the bigger ones that actually protects it. I also put a screen protector on it just to be safe. I've dropped it twice from pocket level and it's fine).
The only thing I've noticed that I think could possibly be better is the battery life. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad per se, but I do feel it could be a little better. Of course, there are power saver apps and whatnot you can do to help with that.
And that's it.
What I like is how customizable it is. The only thing we can't currently do is put W8 on it, but given how wide open this phone is, that may just be a matter of time and interest. Meantime you can pretty much do anything else you want to it, which I love. There's a lot to be said for having the choice to use it however you want to. Can't recommend it enough.
Battery life is pretty good on the m8 especially on gpe a gpe m8 I would rate higher than a nexus device go for the m8 you won't be disappointed
One issue and that's the volume keys, everything else seems perfect to me (fantastic build quality, decent camera, decent battery, easily converted to gpe which is really nice).
Edit: Oh yeah second issue is that the htc keyboard sucks, thankfully that's a non issue because you can easily get better keyboards on the store.
I got the M8! Thanks for you thoughts. Already boot unlocked and Rooted, sadly I'll need sunshine not firewater to s-off when I go there but it's a great phone. Having had a Sensation for the lat 4 years...we've forgotten how fast phones can be! Cheers!

Enough that I'm constantly trying to get something else!
Had the Nexus 5 for almost 11 months and absolutely loved the feel of the phone in hand!
I've been trying to get a hold of a Z3 but all the Canadian ones are only 16gb so it's kind of disappointing. I'll wait for a next generation SD810 phone before I switch again. GPE Lollipop has reduced my enthusiasm to find something else!
