[Request] An app to eject flash drive? - Fire TV Themes and Apps

without having to go into Amazon settings and eject it. I've tried a few apps that I had used on my phone, but they don't work on the FTV.
Thanks in advance if someone has figured it out,
Jason.

Do you have root? Stickmount should work:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount&hl=en

Tried it and couldnt get it to work. Guess I will try it again...

Maybe I don't get what you are trying to do. Going into an app and ejecting a drive doesn't seem any easier than just ejecting it in settings.
So what are you trying to accomplish? Why do you need to eject the drive?

Much easier to have an app that does it than to navigate thru the settings. And better yet, a widget, but couldnt get that to work either.

I think I lost root. How do I check and fix?

I've had a few apps tell me that I'm not rooted and my wifi tether no longer works (laptop doesnt even see the network. Tried changing and using another tehtering app and it saw it but only gave me limited connection. No internet.) but when I put SU into terminal emulator it returns #.Can someone please tell me how to check to make sure my root is still fully entact and functioning.
Try opening the superuser app.
Thanks for the fast response man. I really appreciate it.
I did and it didnt do anything so I cleared the permissions for it aaaaaaand think i made it worse. in super user I scrolled down to the wifi tether app and clicked it and hit the trash icon withouth thinking it through. IS there a way to manually add allowed apps. I also noticed SU never prompts me to allow apps anymore. Really holding up my ingress progress. lol

Just run any app that needs root and it will prompt you again. You cake also download root checker from play store.

Thank you too eles. I actually just did that and it told me I dont not have proper root access. But Terminal emulator does show # when prompted. Can either of you tell me how what may have caused this and how to fix it. I did just get the 4.1.1 update from T-mo so Im thinking maybe that.

Yes do this or Odin the prerooted one. The update broke it.

Thanks again aero. I reflashed it and Root checker still says im not. I also tried to run fix permissions and it says an error too.I also tried to do a back up and it hangs on "done freeing up space". What would be your next step to diagnosing/fixing this. and Thanks again you guys I've been freaking out a little. lol
Just re-root.
Then reflash your favorite ROM.
How did you root in the first place?

Is it really that simple? Won't there be some issues because I have a somewhat partial root already? I honestly don't rememeber my original method. I did it back in september and havent messed with it since. I never even ran any roms I'm still bone stock. Is there a method you would suggest? or possibly a link to it?
Yes, it really is that simple.
If root still isn't working, follow instructions in my signature. The su zip is also going to wipe out any previous superuser/supersu that is present on your phone.
Alternatively, if you already have CWM on your phone, you can use this http://db.tt/okfh9vzU to update it without tripping your counter.
Thanks to your guys' help I was able to reroot using the tool kit. Now my issue is that I did this to fix my wifi tethering issue and its not. What app would you guys suggest for tethering? I dont have it on a part of myplan but I know theres ways around it. Wifi tether and barnacle didnt work (wasnt seen by laptop or other s3) and fox fi was identified, let me connect but said it was limited, then eventually went to fully connected but still wouldnt load pages or anything. If I can get one of you guys to help me solve this by suggesting an app or something I'll get out of your hair.
Do I need to load a custom rom to tether maybe? Thanks again guys.

[Q] Installed 4.1.2 ROM Music Now Won't Play

Complete Edit: Problem is that since I flashed my phone with AOPK's rom and that music and videos will not play. The speaker by the ear will not work during calls and the headphones aren't registering properly (maybe with the headphones). I remember when I opened doubletwist and I got a message that went along the lines of that this is a custom rom and it was missing apis (I forget if that was it or not, I might have gotten it wrong) necessary to run some apps. And I'm thinking that is the real issue.
I have tried a lot of things, please take a look through the thread to see what I've already tried and didn't work.
I'm thinking I need to flash it with a different rom OR would really like it that if someone else who has the normal HTC One V software that isn't customized or anything, if they could leave a Clockwork backup file here so I can get my phone back to what it once was.
Try a full format of the sdcard from the pc or lappy.backup all the contents and format it(the full format, not the quick one)..

Try clearing the media storage as said above.
Move any one music file to internal memory, and then see if it plays.
Maybe because its not able to read the music from the sd

Why wouldnt it let you?what does it say?
Last option in my opinion would be a factory reset and re-install the rom.

It said that it couldn't copy it to that area. I've already done a factory reset and the rom, I'm a bit wary of doing that but it might be an option.
I'll come back on tomorrow and some other days, but as of now it's almost 2:00 am here and I'm so exhausted. Good night!
Ok,try using root explorer, copy the music file, mount system as read/write and go to mnt/emmc and see if it copies there.

[Q]Homescreen shortcuts disappears after unmounting SD card/Mass storage

Hello,
Searched this in the forums but can't find the answer I was looking for.
Every time I connect my phone to my PC and use the USB mass storage...and after I unmount it, all of my homescreen shortcuts disappear, but only the app shortcuts that are moved to the SD card disappears.
So my question is- is this normal?
Using HOX-endeavoru CM11 Nightly Jan31 stock CM kernel. Never happened when I was in stock Sense ROM. They either change to default android icons or disappear temporarily and appear again after unmounting. This problem also occurs when I was in CM10.2. Also happens when mounting/unmounting via CWM. Is this kind of a launcher problem? Does it happen on stable versions of CM as well?
EDIT:I get that what I am using are nightlies so things are obviously not complete/stable, but just out of curiosity why I'm asking this. I can always move them back to phone memory.
EDIT:Happens as well after normal reboot
Thanks!
To solve this problem I used SiMi Folder. see this link
Yes, it's normal as UMS turns to make your SD card unavailable from phone side. If you use file explorer while connected to PC you won't see it.
You need to use MTP to be avoid that.

Thanks for the reply. Anyway it only affects apps that are moved to the SD card. So I just have to use MTP instead.
But my problem right now is that they still disappear when I update apps from the Play Store. Of course again only apps that are moved to the SD card.
Thanks!

I'm using Trebuchet in CM11 M8 - endeavoru
In this case, try another one to see if the problem also appears.
Maybe, it's a bug of Trebuchet.

Yeah it might be a bug. I tried others and they work just fine. I'm the type of person to just use stock versions, even the kernel, that's why I sticked with trebuchet. But yeah I think it's time I used another one again. Got any good recommendations?
If you like the stock look and feel, you can try Nova.

Is there a way to install google play store on rooted fire tv without adb?

Just as the title dictates. I am trying to walk a friend through installing google play on his rooted fire tv, I emailed him all the necessary files and he installed via es file explorer which apprently did not work as it just gives him a white screen. Is this only able to function if it is installed via adb?
Did you guide him through the xposed framework installation as well?
Yes
danknasty, maybe have your friend read the guide. Why would you not use Adb? and you have to install the xposed framework along with the module for google play to function. And to top it off to make it work perfectly fine, you need to use market helper 2.0 beta.

Yea it's an older person so i was trying to make it as "friendly" as possible. He's able to navigate within es file explorer and can stick a usb stick in... adb fire i just feel is gonna be a lengthier and more difficult talk but it may come to that. I have recently installed it via es file explorer myself jsut to test and it seems to work fine so ill have him give it go.

You mentioned Rooted. i have a solution for you. Get him to install quicksupport and start it up. Then use teamviewer on your home pc and connect to it using the number quick support generates. Note: the first time the person will have to accept access to root privs. From that point on you'll have full control of his firetv from your PC. I do that all the time for my parents who live remotely.
I also connect to their PC so I have their PC and their firetv and can do adb install or what ever I need. Hope it helps.

Yeah,. and if he is rooted and has google play which he dosen't as thats what you are trying to install. Then you could install it for him automatically through google any app he needs. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
One other thing to note is that if he gets the prompt for root grant, you know there is a timer of 15 seconds and he has to accept it in that time. I know i have a hard time explaining that too to my parents.
Thanks I think I lucked out and they hit the permanent root grant option on the unit.

Is there a permanent root option with the newer firmwares? I didn't know. At least not with supersu. The permanent option used to exist in the older rooted firmwares. The new ones' have to select grant everytime root is requested.

If you select the permanent option when you first root I believe it transfers over. When you update it. That was my understanding correct me if I'm wrong.

I've done so many roots and have never seen that option. The older firmwares with towelroot had it that way. but when you upgrade from those rooted versions to the new one, you have to constantly grant.
Are you talking about units you've hardware rooted? I just did one not so long ago and in the supersu program there is a choice that says grant always. After upgrade to the latest firmware it still remains.

[SOLVED] Marshmallow SD card write access

Hi, I have tried a Cyanogenmod 13 on my M8 dual sim and it installed and run fine.
Well, until I tried to install my gps offline navigation apps.
Without full access to the sd card they will not install.
Is there any way enable write access?
Titanium Backup worked with a setting change and ES explorer also has access. But how?
Formatting to internal is not an option.
I am back to Lollipop for now.
Thanks.
Some navigation apps makes Problem with write access
Er? Isn't that what I said? So what's the solution then?

Write privileges need to be granted on a per-app bases now. Try going into Settings>Apps, finding the app in question, and go to Permissions, and see if you can toggle "on" the Storage toggle.

Hi, I would give that a try if I could get the app installed. Problem is that the app will not install as it say it cant find the sd card.
I may try installing via Titanium Backup then fixing after.
What I was really hoping for is a fix like "just let me give access to everything because its my phone"

This sounds like a problem with the app and its developer, more than anything. The app apparently hasn't been properly updated for the requirements of Marshmallow, a version that has been around for over 5 months; so the app developer has had ample time to do so.

Such a hack would be a bad from a security standpoint. The very point of app-by-app granting of permissions is to prevent rogue apps from accessing permissions and data that they aren't supposed to. Compartmentalization is a good thing.

I can see that for 'average Joe' but for me that should be my decision, thats why I would never use a locked non rooted phone.
Still looking for a fix. I am sure it will come soon.
Otherwise happy to stay on (unrestricted) lollipop for now.
Hi,
so the greatness of XDA does it again.
on Cyanogenmod 13 Marshmallow on my M8 dual sim
loaded ExtSD_Fix from twrp http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/fix-extsd-fix-v1-0b-2016-01-18-t3296266
and also XInternalSD from Tasker from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-disablesignaturecheck-t2789267/
and full access and control of MY SDcard.
Not sure if I needed both of these but, hey, its all working fine now.
