Android L-MR1 Upgrade wont install - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
Got notification for the above update on my m8 last night. So downloaded and rebooted. Went into custom recovery and asked about a system file.. and selected ok.... with the power button but update didn't install just rebooted phone..
My phone was rooted and i converted it from stock sense to GPE edition rom.
Had to unroot to get work email app working on the phone..
Any suggestions on how to get this update installed?

Android L-MR1 Upgrade won't install
Same problem here. Keep getting the notifications. When given permission to install it reboots into TWRP. Unable to install the update.zip from within TWRP as expected. Guess I'll watch for somebody to figure it out.

OTA updates require stock recovery to install. Find your stock recovery in the thread sticky at the top of General forum and flash with fastboot.

stock recovery
Does flashing the stock recovery erase contents or just change the recovery app ?
Thanks

Recovery isn't an app. It's a partition that contains the recovery console. And no, flashing a recovery won't wipe anything, except the old recovery console.

Recovery Console
I have rooted and used a few phones and roms but am no expert by any stretch of the imagination. This issue is perplexing.
I understand that the L-MR1 OTA update will not install with TWRP and requires the stock recovery. I downloaded what I thought was the correct recover image and have successfully flashed it but the update will still not install.
Here is what I have...... Is there a specific recovery image that is needed and if so which one ??
Model: HTC6525LVW HTC M8
VERSION 5.01
BASEBAND: 0.89.20.0321
KERNEL: 3.4.0-Elite-g06e8525
Build: Digitalhigh GPE LRX22c.H5 release-keys
Unlocked S-Off
CID-VZW__001
HBOOT 3.19.0.0000
RADIO 0.89.20.0321
I used 2.23.631.2 recovery.img.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Dude...
Besides the fact that you are S-off, and can just flash a Verizon firmware package to update the easiest way there is (that's my favorite part of being s-off), there are RUUs available for all US carriers.
Search for a verizon firmware.zip and enjoy the freedom of S-off. Download it and flash it and don't lose any data. S-OFF FTW!

[Q] Flashing update help

Hello.
I need some help with the update process on the HTC ONE X.
Here is my phone info:
Code:
Android version : 4.1.1
S-ON
version-bootloader: 1.36.0000
version-baseband: 5.1204.162.29
version-main: 3.14.708.28
platform: HBOOT-T30S
cidnum: HTC__622
I have CWM Custom recovery and the bootloader is unlocked.
I am trying to update the software to the latest one available.
Here is what I tried:
1)Performing a regular OTA update. It won't update.
2)Getting the OTA zip and flashing it trough CWM. After this I am stuck in a bootloop.
3)Using<RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_HK_3.14.708.28_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_299865_signed> . I get Error 132 signature error.
4)Running <<RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_HK_1.29.708.15_Radio_2.1204.122.17_release_268338_signed>. Gives an error regarding the bootloader version.
4) Extracting the zip from <RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_HK_1.29.708.15_Radio_2.1204.122.17_release_268338_signed>, flashing recovery, boot, and system img, relocking the bootloader and runing the <RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_HK_3.14.708.28_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_299865_signed> . Again signature error.
Right now I restored a nandroid backup.
Could you please point me in the right direction? I'm not really a beginner in flashing but coming from Samsung, flashing One X is very time consuming and honestly I lost my patience.
I think I got the right firmware (considering cid) but I may need to flash something from the stock rom before I can update.
I just want to update to the latest stock rom and if possible to a custom one. So, can you guy provide some info and maybe some links about what versions could I flash considering the information about the phone posted in the opening?
Thank you.

I tried that already.
All you had to do was flash the stock recovery.
To get ota you must have stock Rom, stock boot.img and stock recovery. You do not have to lock the bootloader for ota but you do before you run an ruu, which is probably why you got a signature error on the first one. And lastly, you cannot run an ruu which is lower than your main version

Thank you for the info. Is the recovery from the clockwork nandroid backup the right one or could you please point me to a link with the right stock recovery?
And one more thing: is Android Revolution HD compatible with my phone?

No, the recovery in the nandroid is a custom recovery. You can get the stock recovery from the general section from the "collection of stock nandroids" thread. Or you can Google "3.14 stock recovery" and look for clydeb1's dev host account, he has a load of recoveries listed. And yes, arhd is compatible with your phone, as is any other rom in the one x thread.

[Q] Troubles at UnRooting M8

Hello there!
I know there are many threads and questions about unrooting, but I haven't found anything useful to me (or I just don't understand them) and also I'm new to the whole root/unroot thing.
Here is the story. I rooted my device via TWRP Recovery. Then I tried to get S-OFF using Firewater. When I wasted like a few days trying to get this done I discovered that my device is "Patched by HTC" so I cannot use Firewater anymore to get this S-OFF.
The whole thing was to convert my M8 into a GPE version. Now I'm trying to revert my phone back to stock ver. because I have no need in root.
So is it possible to unroot my phone?
My CID is HTC_622
Software number is 1.60.708.2
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply.
I wish there was more detail in your post: like what software should I use to flash stock?
Should I download some rom for that?
As I said, I'm really new to the whole thing.
1. Flash your backup in TWRP
2. Once restored and confirmed working, flash the stock recovery image for your software version in fastboot the same way you flashed TWRP (fastboot flash recovery <nameofrecovery>.img

Hey I've been googling for hours for this too.I know this is an old post.
I am one of the unfortunate people do get a 1.60 up
Update on CID HTC__622
I have surfed the page with the list of nandroids, however there is no stock recovery that begins with 1.60. From other research it states that the first two numbers are the most important whilst flashing recoveries.
Any information would be really helpful
Thanks

Running ARHD 11.1 now, but i have crappy boot times.
I am S-ON, unlocked bootloader, but I need to update firmware so my boot time isn't 3000 hours.
Bootloader says:
HBOOT: 3.16.0.0000
Radio:1.16.21331931.LA24G
etc..
Can i flash the OTA from the official thread to get newest firmware and then go back to ARHD 11.1 to fix this?
Thanks for the help im just confused

In order to fix the long boot times you would need to update your firmware which can be done via this thread. You don't have to flash everything if you don't want to, you can just simply flash the stock firmwares which he has as a single download in his thread.
Alternatively yes you can accept this OTA, but the way mentioned above is easier.
Take note those aren't meant to be flashed in TWRP or CWM, those are for RUU mode which you should learn about if you don't know how to do it or what it actually is. You can find instructions for it all over these RUU threads.
What is ARHD? I've never used it....

[Q] Lost root access after flashing new firmware

Hi All,
I have a UK HTC One M8, rooted, S-off, and with ViperOne installed, an old version - 1.8.0
I have flashed a new firmware in order to update ViperOne, and I have lost root access. I used root checker app to verify.
I used this method to flash the firmware:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696282
I obtained the firmware from here: http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.co.uk/p/android-revolution-hd-mirror-site-var.html
I had changed the cid to supercid, as I am S-off, and i checked that the modelid was correct in "android-info.txt"
The flash went fine, no errors, phone turned on first time, but root access is lost.
This thread I just found says that upgrading the firmware will always cause you to lose root. This is surprising as it wasn't mentioned in any of the guides I read to flashing firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417442
I was wondering if somebody knowledgeable could reassure me that everything is fine, and perhaps point me to the most appropriate method for getting root access back. I am a little out of my depth here, I learned how to do most of this stuff a year ago when i first rooted, but I haven't been back to update since then, and have forgotten a lot of what I learned before.
Would appreciate any assistance you can offer
Cheers
Will

Different device manufacturers do things in very different ways, so I wouldn't take that thread to mean anything, one way or another, regarding losing root when updating firmware. I also think in that thread, they may be talking about firmware = ROM (as opposed to something very different on HTC devices). In which case, yes, installing a stock ROM will in fact usually remove root on most Android devices.
In any case, see if you still have TWRP installed. That depends on whether the firmware package was modified or not to remove the stock recovery. If TWRP was replaced by stock recovery, simply install TWRP again using your method of choice (personally I prefer installing by fastboot). Then download the SuperSU zip to your phone from here and flash in TWRP.
In reality, I think you may not even have to download SuperSU. If you boot into TWRP and select reboot, I believe TWRP will automatically sense your ROM is not rooted, and ask you if you want it to do so. But I'm not 100% on that, and the SuperSU method is a sure thing.
Thanks a lot for your input. I don't have a recovery installed, so I have tried to flash twrp.
I tried flashing it twice, after reading it can be necessary to do that, and erasing the cache before attempting to boot to recovery. When I try and enter recovery, I get stuck on the startup htc screen with "Entering Recovery..." in pink.
Snippets off other threads have suggested my hboot might not be compatible with the new version of twrp. Is it straightforward to update hboot?
Thanks in advance

Updating your firmware updates the hboot. 3.19 is the current hboot, and you can check no the bootloader screen.
Make sure its a current version TWRP (2.8.7.0) and I think the opposite is also true (old versions of TWRP don't work with current hboot).
And to clarify, you want to fastboot erase cache, then flash TWRP; as this often clears up issues with TWRP not installing properly.

So my hboot is 3.16, and the twrp was the latest version. I guess i need to find a more up to date firmware file. Any suggestions as to the best sources for firmware?

What exactly did you flash from the Android Revolution website (what you linked in the top post)?
That website has up-to-date firmware, but what you want is 4.xx version firmware, found under the "Firmware collection" link on that webpage.
Since your hboot number is 3.16, you either did not properly flash a firmware (flashed something else) or flashed a really old firmware (hboot 3.16 corresponds to firmware version 1.xx).

skydragon rom - stuck at boot screen

I have an AT&T HTC One M8. It was already rooted when it bought it. Running stock 4.4.2
I have installed the most current version of TWRP. I created a successful backup.
I am trying to install the ROM for skydragon 5.5 but it just gets stuck on the startup screen (white android screen)
I am S-on.
I flashed (via fastboot) the boot.img from the Skydragon 5.5 Rom.
I installed Skydragon 5.5 Rom from the TWRP install screen.
(note - these are the instructions from skydragon website and it states I do not need S-off as long as I flash the boot image)
When I reboot it just hangs on the startup screen (white android screen)
I can recover to get back to a working phone but I would really like to upgrade to skydragon. I have been having constant problems with bluetooth headsets on the stock 4.4.2 and am hoping the newer skydragon ROM and boot.img would resolve the poor bluetooth sound quality issues.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
You probably need to update your firmware/hboot.

As mentioned, you need to update your firmware.
Current ROMs won't run properly (extreme long boot times, broken WiFi) on old firmware (hboot, radio, etc.).
Plus, the current TWRP will not flash ROMs properly on the old hboot.
I dont fully understand why but I lost my backup during my installation of the new skydragon ROM. The backups were on the SD card.......and then they vanished.
I did manage to barely avoid bricking my phone. I re-locked my phone, installed the HTC RUU for lollipop and got my phone back to working. I had been trying to use sunshine S-off tool so that I could upgrade the firmware but I couldnt get my phone to boot up to perform the S-off installation process.
I still want to install skydragon. These are the steps I think I need to take.
1. unlock/root my HTC M8
2. Install TWRP
3. Backup my phone
4. install the new Skydragon Lollipop ROM
* note - I assume that I dont need S-OFF since my firmware should have already been upgraded when I installed the HTC Lollipop RUU.
If my phone is S-off will the skydragon lollipop ROM installation automatically install the firmware? Or is that a separate installation?
1: You lost all because you ran a RUU !
2: A custom rom NEVER changes the firmware

To confirm whether the firmware was updated or not; what does it say on the hboot screen for hboot number, radio baseband, and OS number?

Flashing a ROM never updates your firmware. The firmware partitions (hboot, radio, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.) are not included in a ROM zip.
Firmware flash is done as a separate action, usually via fastboot.
Actually I lost my backup before I installed the RUU......otherwise I would have reverted to my previous kitkat installation rather than installing the RUU and losing all my data. I know the RUU basically reimages all the memory.
I was using sideload to install the skydragon ROM. I suspect I did something wrong during one my fastboot flash commands or the adb sideload commands.
