[Q] Long boot times, need to update 4.4.3 firmware? - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

Running ARHD 11.1 now, but i have crappy boot times.
I am S-ON, unlocked bootloader, but I need to update firmware so my boot time isn't 3000 hours.
Bootloader says:
HBOOT: 3.16.0.0000
Radio:1.16.21331931.LA24G
etc..
Can i flash the OTA from the official thread to get newest firmware and then go back to ARHD 11.1 to fix this?
Thanks for the help im just confused

In order to fix the long boot times you would need to update your firmware which can be done via this thread. You don't have to flash everything if you don't want to, you can just simply flash the stock firmwares which he has as a single download in his thread.
Alternatively yes you can accept this OTA, but the way mentioned above is easier.
Take note those aren't meant to be flashed in TWRP or CWM, those are for RUU mode which you should learn about if you don't know how to do it or what it actually is. You can find instructions for it all over these RUU threads.

What is ARHD? I've never used it....

[Q] Complete Stock - Non Rooted and S-ON

Hello all, First of all I want to thank this enormous community for their massive support to the mobile platform.
My question has been answered many times but there is a problem that I am facing while doing it particularly with my phone,
I currently have unlocked bootloader with S-OFF and I am running 4.1.1 Jelly Bean RC3 custom rom by The Albinoman. I am now getting an upgrade and I want to give my phone to my younger sister with stock rom and S-ON with locked bootloader,
I managed to get to Froyo and GB version 4.06.605.3 with RUU/PB31IMG.zip images and got S-ON with locked bootloader. However my system refuses to update to 4.08.605.2 version.
The phone downloaded the update OTA but does not restart to install it. Sometimes when it restarts, It gives the triangle with exclamation error.
I tried flashing the it as update.zip from stock recovery and custom recovery as well, but it wont just install it. Be it S-ON or S-OFF or locked bootloader or unlocked one.
I tried to update to 4.08.605.2 from froyo and gb 4.06.605.3, but to no avail. I also tried running 4.08 RUU with 4.06 installed. The RUU would report a success but the software still wont be updated on the phone.
Do you have any recommendations on what to do?
Your help would be really appreciated

Try to flash back to froyo and keep s-off just in case and fash the newest GB ota

First, were it me I'd keep S-OFF and bootloader unlocked. The phone stays more useful that way, and it's your sister, not a random stranger.
Flash a stock ROM from recovery and call it a day.
That said, the RUUs should flash unless they're trying to downgrade hboot. Perhaps that's the problem?

How did you install the ota if you wasn't stock? Have you tried clearing cache in fastboot or factory reset?
Id of said find the correct Ruu for your cid and relock your bootloader and then run Ruu while in fastboot to get it back to stock. If that's your current Hboot, then it hasn't updated to Jellybean.
You can't update from custom with an official ota. Now you have to run the old ICS ruu, then install all the otas until you reach the JB ota
ahh i see. so what is the best solution to get JB rom then?
1.
relock, change hboot and install a custom JB rom?
2.
relock and install proper ICS ROM and then do a OTA update on that?

[Q] Firmware flashing 2.22.401.4 for HTC_044 CID

My M8 has the CID of HTC_044 and I would like to flash latest ROM. However it requires latest firmware, ie 2.22.401.4, I am wondering if it is safe to flash the firmware to my device being with different CID as the firmware's android-info does not contain my device CID.
I have S-OFF on my device, I am wondering if I change mt CID to supercid would allow my device to run the firmware without issue.
Thanks in advance.

If your firmware for CID HTC__044 is 2.22.707.3, it is not necessary for you to flash another firmware to run a 2.22.401.4 ROM.
As long as the firmware is 2.22.xxx.x ... you're good to go.
Anyway it's up to you if you want to flash 2.22.401.4 firmware but your Radio will be the EU region if the firmware that you flash come with radio image. If you currently in Asia, it's best to keep 2.22.707.3 firmware

When we read firmware we look at x.xx.707.x not 2.22.7xx.x
You don't need 2.22.707.3 firmware if you already done the OTA update.
Please advise your current firmware that you have ... check what is written on the bootloader ... is it 1.54.707.7 or 2.22.707.3 ?
If it is 1.54.707.7 then you need to do OTA update.

Couldn't check my firmware version as the OS field is empty in the bootloader.
Hboot: 3.16.0.0000
Radio: 1.16.2133156.UA10G
But I highly doubt my firmware is 2.22.707.3, I would think it is more likely to be 1.54.707.7 as I have rooted by phone before newer firmware roll out.
So can I use your firmware in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376&page=141

Right ... your current hboot is 3.16 so it's 1.54.707.7
I suggest that you restore 1.54.707.7 stock Backup, flash back stock recovery and do the OTA (no need to relock bootloader or S-On .. OTA update work on unlocked bootloader and S-Off)
I don't post firmware on XDA. Those that I posted are recovery and stock backup.
If you insist to update firmware without OTA update .. that's you call. Someone maybe will guide you how to do it as I don't feel comfortable telling how to update firmware.

Great
Now you can flash any Sense 6 custom ROM that you like.
Only remember that you don't need to flash another firmware, your current one is good enough.. just flash ROM.
I am having the same issue - I have the HTC__044 and need new firmware to get the newest ROM.
I am S-On and CANT get S-off (s-off needed to flash firmware)...firewater does not work with my phone after multiple tries.
I tried getting Sunshine to work for s-off, but I need to be on a stock Sense ROM (I am on Viper 1.8) and don't have a stock backup. I can't find ANY stock ROM's online! Once I have supercid i was going to flash firmware, but without S off...I'm going nowhere (it seems)
anyone have an idea where I should start?

Everything that you need is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
1. Restore nandroid backup 1.54.707.7
2. flash stock recovery 1.54.707.7
3. reboot and check for OTA
4. install OTA
5. done .. your ROM will be 4.4.3 - 2.22.707.3
6. flash any 4.4.3 custom ROM that you like if any
All above no need to relock bootloader or S-Off, it works on S-On
If you want to S-Off with sunshine, step 1 & 2 then sunshine
or after step 5 then sunshine (both way should work)

I'm still a little on the noob side with rooting/flashing..I am at work and don't have time to read much - i will go home and give it a go... I'm sure I will have lots of questions
A quick look at the site, i saw lots of recoveries but not very many stock ROMs. I mainly just need a plain/rooted stock Sense rom to run Sunshine. After which i can flash new firmware, then the new custom ROM i've been wanting. Also, does a nandroid HAVE to be HTC__044, or can it be any WWE cid? (like anything that's "HTC__xxx")?
Excuse my ignorance...trying to learn as much as possible
I just got my m8 from Tmobile today, and I am on firmware 157.531.7
I've checked several times for updated firmware, but always comes back nothing.
Am I stuck on this, or will it take awhile for the network to "see me" and send it?
not rooted, fully stock for now
thanks so much!

If your main purpose to restore to stock to get SunShine working, then any nandroid backup will do either HTC__044 or WWE. You don't really need a rooted stock as SunShine works on non-rooted ROM too.
As you said you're a noob, that is why I suggest to restore to 1.54.707.7 then OTA to 2.22.707.3 so you don't need to manually flash firmware to get other custom ROMs running flawlessly. It is not necessary to have 2.22.401.4 firmware but it is necessary to have a 2.22.xxx.x firmware for those custom ROMs, unless you're not in Asia.
As you can see in my sig, I'm on 2.22.707.3 firmware, I can run any ROM without problem.
Being a noob, you may make a stupid mistake when flashing firmware.
There is also by mike or so a stock Rom as a zip.
Flash it like a custom Rom Flash the stock kernel and better the recovery and do sunshine...easier then with getting nandroid backup etc

Hi One-M8-Master,
I've read quite a few of your posts & given that your moniker seems appropriate, I'm wondering if you might be able to help me?
I've posted this on another thread but haven't got very far as yet, so am hoping that you might be able to get me out of the stupid hole I've dug myself into :fingers-crossed:
It is quite a long description but if you don't fall asleep reading it, I'd really appreciate any help you might be able to give me.....Here goes:
"Hi Guys,
Now I know you're all already thinking that I didn't update my firmware before I flashed ARHD & now I'm getting all the problems that come along with not doing that......& you'd be correct....kind of. HOWEVER, as it turns out, I already seem to have it. Let me explain.
As you can see, I'm relatively new to all this but successfully unlocked, rooted & installed a custom ROM on my ASUS TF700T tablet, so I wanted to do it with my One M8. I always do loads of reading before I start anything (I even read the instructions for new games before I attempt to play them because I'm a bit weird like that!) but what happened on this occasion was that I did the reading, unlocked the phone, flashed TWRP, & rooted it but then ran into the problem that some people appear to have had when trying to s-off via the adb commands & Firewater, that is, my pc could see the phone but when I gave the reboot command, it told me it wasn't connected.
I then got into hours of reading to try & solve this issue, discovered that (without Sunlight) on some devices it just doesn't work once you've accepted the 'should we allow this pc to connect every time' message (which I NEVER normally say 'yes' to), unless you install the Android Studio & Java Develpers Kits, update your version of adb, & force the phone to ask again (which I did but it turned out that I already had the latest version of adb, so that route proved fruitless!). I actually missed a night's sleep trying to resolve the problem, so work wasn't good the next day! but I think it is here is where my problems started because I was so tired & frustrated that I just picked a ROM & flashed it. I had even read the warning about not flashing it if you didn't have the correct firmware but I think that being so tired, it didn't really sink in, or I'd forgotten about it by the time I just flashed the ROM.
By this point, I'd been sat in front of my pc for about 30 hours & needed to go to work but the phone was actually booting through to ARHD, so I was relatively happy in the knowledge that at least I hadn't bricked it! On starting to use the phone that evening, I noticed the long boot times & then that my Sense 6 Toolbox didn't seem to be making any changes, even if I rebooted the device, so I went back to the beginning of this thread & started reading again. Thus, I re-read the firmware warning & panicked (my 2nd mistake!), thinking that I was getting the problems because I hadn't updated the firmware (it still didn't occur to me to just check because I think I just assumed that I wouldn't have it). So.....I tried to restore my TWRP backup of the stock ROM that I made after I had unlocked/rooted, with the intention of reverting to the stock ROM, getting the OTA update & then re-flashing ARHD but despite TWRP telling me that the backup had been successful, the phone went into a bootloop back into TWRP. I solved this by re-flashing the ARHD ROM that I knew at least would get my phone out of the bootloop & back into KitKat, which it did. I then checked what version of the firmware I had & to my surprise, my Build Number in About\Software Information\More says "2.22.401.4 CL365360 release-keys", so it looks like I had the correct firmware version all along?
The above being the case, I'm now puzzled as to why I'm getting the problems that I'm getting with ARHD? Does anyone have any clues/answers that might get me out of this hole I've dug for myself & get my awesome One M8 working like it should?
I know I've caused this problem by doing things when I was too tired to think straight but I'm fresh as a daisy now (still fairly noobish but fresh ) & now I need your help to sort myself out. I would be so grateful for any help anyone can give me to get me back on track.
I hope all of that makes sense & thanks in advance."
@dan5001
The firmware you speak of is the displayed version main number of the flashed rom. It has no relation to your actual installed firmware. Check your bootloader and post here what it says. I bet it is still hboot 3.16 and if that's the case your firmware is not updated.

Hi.
This is my own fault but I'm getting really frustrated with it because I've probably spent a total of 40 hours on it so far
I tell you that because I know that I needed S-OFF & SUPER CID to be able to update my firmware, so I just thought "screw it" & I paid for Sunshine. I now have S-OFF & following Vomer's guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/vomerguides-m8-bootldr-unlock-s-off-t2800727
I now have S-OFF & SUPER CID. I thought that would be the end of my issues but it would appear not!
Looking at my bootloader, you are correct, HBOOT is 3.16.0.0000!
However, I've tried to upgrade this firmware by downloading what I think is the correct update .zip from the list at the bottom of the aforementioned Vomer's guide (v2.22.401.5 (Rename to firmware.zip after downloading)), renaming it as suggested, & then flashing it in TWRP but it just keeps telling me that the update has failed!
Do I have to do it using the adb commands on Vomers guide? I didn't think so but it's just not working??
I appreciate any help you can give me with this. Given that I've spent so long on this & have paid for Sunshine, you can see that I'm trying to help myself but I've still got rain!!
EDIT
Just a thought, I do still have ARHD v10.2 installed at the moment because even though it's not working properly without the correct firmware, it's the only ROM I've got at the moment, so it means I can use the M8 to a degree; would that cause the problem with upgrading the firmware?
Firmware flash can be done via fastboot commands, that's how i did it
Installed rom has no influence on the to flash firmware, try it via fastboot

slow boot time with latest 2.22.401 and arhd 10.2

ok i have been searching for answer for quite a while and did not find anything so i am forced to ask here.

i also started getting red developers warning text which i thought i got rid of 4 months ago.
i am on rogers
gapps crashes to on first boot.
any insights?
Any help?

2.22.401 is international firmware, and is known to not play well with US version M8, so I'm just guessing Rogers would have the same story. Rogers versions are usually very similar to AT&T (if not outright identical aside from branding); as the companies have a close association and actually the same company at one time.
If this is correct, you should try the 2.221540 firmware. This is the firmware packed with the US Developer's Edition and seems to work much better for US users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54408500&postcount=9592
Also packaged with the ROM here (this is the one I used, personally): http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
Also, firmware package contains hboot, so the modified (no red text) hboot you flashed previously was overwritten. The 2nd link I gave above contains a "no red text" hboot.
Hi, I'm having the same issues with the same firmware 2.22.401.4 and latest version of ARHD 10.2. Reboot takes ~2-3 minutes.
Any ideas? Also if someone could tell me if there's any other way of accomplishing S-OFF, besides Firewater/Sunshine? (it's annoying to look at the red text for 3 minutes)
I've got the European model, unlocked and rooted, cidnum: HTC_032
Thanks.

If you are not s-off then you don't have the latest firmware. You either s-off and flash 2.22.401.4 firmware, or you remain s-on and downgrade your rom to arhd 8.1, or you return to stock and wait the official OTA to update firmware

Thanks for the advice.
I'm not very experienced, so basically what you are saying is that it's not enough to flash a ROM with sw#2.22.401.4?
Currently i reverted to the newest stock i could find (One_M8_2.22.401.4_odexed) and the boot time is slightly better.
ARHD experience was clearly better, with the sense toolbox and all the features from Xposed, but as I mentioned earlier i can't get S-OFF with firewater, and not willing to try Sunshine YET.
Any idea if my firmware will update OTA running this stock version?
Was looking for a ROM that would contain the firmware 2.22.401.4, but couldn't find any, so if you have a link, I would highly appreciate it.

You are correct flashing a ROM based on 2.22.401.4 is not enough. you need to flash the firmware as well. This can be done only by s-off or if you get the official OTA from HTC. To get the official OTA from HTC you need to have stock rom and stock recovery.
You can get a stock 1.54.401.10 and a stock recovery for 1.54.401.10 here:

Nope. In short, the "firmware" updates a lot of modules that are not touched when you flash a ROM.

Ok, I think I got it, but feel free to correct me, I'd rather look stupid than stupid with a shiny brick.
I'll flash the stock rom 1.54.401.10 from TWRP.
I'll reboot into fastboot and flash the stock recovery.
After this my FW should update to 1.54.401.10 OTA?

You are correct with the exception that your firmware must already be 1.54.401.10. You will be waiting for the official 2.22.401.4 OTA from HTC after which you will be able to flash any 4.4.3 ROM based on 2.22.401.4.
I really have no idea though if HTC__032 has received the OTA yet or not.
The new firmware is not fully compatible with hboot 3.16 if you have s-off, flasha this file to fastboot https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358556103.
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware_2.12.401.3.zip
Usually the first attempt we will give you failed, try again.

you have the cid incompatible, you have to change.
Loooong boot
I have same problem ,i have insert coin 4.0.5 rom and rom version 2.22.401.4 > kernel ElementalX 1.02 for this rom version (2.22.401.4) But I bought three days ago my m8, I had a system 1.54.401.5 then I got OTA to 1.54.401.10 (I'm from Poland)......and ended up as 1.54.401.10 HTC says that there is no newer update. So I unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp and root. Unfortunately, as I try to do the S-OFF mistake I see so SuperCID is not to do the same with the RUU and uploading packages by "fastboot". So now the question. my cid is HTC__32 article display 1.54.401.10 me as the newest system. So for HTC__32 no recent update and I have to wait? Upload in twrp backup 1.54.401.10 then the "fastboot" recovery1_54_401_10.img and type "fastboot oem lock"? Then wait for the OTA update? Will it work?
PLS HELP
1.54.401.10 seems to be the latest OTA update for HTC_032 cidnumber.
I've just finished reverting to stock 1.54.401.10, both ROM and recovery, and no updates so far. It's a waiting game i guess because i know some ppl from here in Romania who already got the 4.4.3 update OTA.
getting S-OFF doesn't work for me (with firewater), so for now, I'm just glad i could get rid of the pesky Orange branded ROM.
@Bajdaspl: you will need to switch back to stock recovery (NOT TWRP) and ROM and wait for the OTA. Only other way is to S-OFF, but that doesn't work for me either (dunno about the Sunshine + 25$ method tho)

What S-off method did you try, and what was the result?
If checking for the OTA does not find an update, it likely hasn't rolled out for your version yet.
You need to relock the bootloader for OTA (only RUU) and doing so will wipe the phone. You need stock recovery, and no system files altered by root.
I fixed mine!
I had the same issue, I was using software version 1.55.666.4 , and the only way I could get the phone to restart without having to wait about 5 mins, was flashing a stock ROM, since then I flashed the stock recovery, and did the OTA which took me to 2.23.666.2, reflashed ARHD 10.1 , and it's working like a charm!

You don't need to relock bootloader to receive OTA, just stock recovery.

T-mobile Firmware issue help required

i have a t-mobile version of htc one m8 but when flashing ROMs , i flash international version of the ROM which i'm flashing. The phone is sim-unlocked.
Lately i'm having problem of my phone getting stuck on boot and only way out is wipe cache and dalvik on every time i reboot. And also GPS is not working (tried every fix but no avail) I'm guessing his is some firmware problem.
So the thing is I want to get back to Android 4.4.4 version ( on which it was earlier before i flashed any Lollipop rom , so that i could flash T-mobile's OTA to Lollipop back ( for firmware update ) and after reading and some research , i have understood that i have to be stock recovery and relock the bootloader and get T-mobile RUU ( very confused about RUU thing)
Could someone confirm if this is the correct procedure and explain what steps i need to follow IN ORDER to get this done ( and if links to corresponding guides i will be really helpful) .
I AM S-ON.
Hboot - 3.19
Radio - 1.22.213311491.08G
Please help , really frustrated by these issues and apparently previous threads of mine have gone unanswered.
Unfortunately, if you want to revert to KK (or any older version), you will have to be S-off to do so. So, pay the $25, get S-off (which will helpfully unlock your bootloader at the same time), run T-Mobile RUU for desired version.
However, even if you are S-on, you should be able to use a current or newer RUU to get the firmware up to date, then move on to installing the ROM of your choice. You are probably better off going to the latest firmware and running an alternate ROM, but that's just me.

So if i were to follow S-on steps , i will have to first flash stock recovery , relock bootloader and run t-mobile RUU for firmware upgrade ?
When i relock bootloader everything will be wiped , right ?
So i connect my phone to pc with relocked bootloader and stock recovery and run t-mobile latest RUU on windows ?
Is this the correct procedure?

That is all true; except you do not need to install stock recovery to RUU.
Stock recovery is only needed to OTA, not for RUU.
