Intermittent WiFi after Lollipop? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

So whenever I try and cast something to my TV, I am noticing that my phone will drop off my WiFi for a second, causing the cast to stop. Then it will reconnect to the WiFi showing the "Connects to ____" message on my screen. Its really annoying cuz it keeps happening every few minutes, can't really cast anything and watch it uninterrupted. This has happened only after Lollipop, and its not my router cuz my tablet and laptop can cast without any issues....
Anyone else experience this or have any ideas?

it happens to me same when using chromecast or direct miracast connection
i have observed this happens when the phone is working on 2.4 instead of 5 Ghz wireless connections it is something regarding the autoswitch between the 2 bands for wifi , other android devices kk or ll had the setting to force 5 or 2.4 as preferred band but not the note...

Well I hope this gets fixed or someone finds a fix for this. This didn't happen before I was on Lollipop.

Have not upgraded to lolipop, but does it still have the option to enable/disable smart network switching? Does disabling this option help with casting?

It has the option, I'll give it a try.

Wifi & Bluetooth at same time = buffering

So I have a issue, I experience buffering when I try to stream audio via Bluetooth To my Philips fidelio while on wifi. If I turn off Bluetooth the buffering goes away. Can Bluetooth and wifi not be used at the same time? I have a 2.4 ghz wifi router only. Also if I turn off wifi "use 4g" and just use Bluetooth the buffering goes away as well. Does anyone else have this issue?

This happens on many phones because the wifi and Bluetooth often share the same antenna since space is crucial, both operate in the same general frequency range. Not much you can do I don't think.
I wonder if I got a 2.4 & 5ghz router if that would solve the problem
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
i got the same problem: everytime i stream music to my bluetooth headset and leave wifi turned on my nexus looses wifi connection when the screen is turned off.

That's a great experiment to try. I remember back on my nokia n95 wifi and bt stuttered together cause they shared antenna. But surely 5ghz has a desperate antenna? Curious.
I have the same issue. If I keep the screen on it doesn't buffer. The best solution I have found is to put the phone in clock mode so you don't get screen burn in. I used tasker to setup a profile when the phone is plugged in.
I haven't tried the 5ghz wifi but heard that works. My phone sees my 5ghz router but it won't connect. I tried all the channels but I guess that's a different bug to sort out.

Just tried this and it seems to be working for me as well ... Thanks for your help
Did you try setting your phones wifi to 5ghz only in the advanced setting ?
I think Franco kernel updater has a setting to fix this.

I've noticed that when streaming video over HDMI with my Bluetooth mouse paired, it sometimes gets choppier than when I turn the mouse off. Similar effect I guess.
If screen on fixes this than that's a different issue than antenna sharing bandwidth problem. Sounds more like the android 4 power reduction bug kicking in throttling the CPU or data or something.

I tried that and it still won't connect although it sees the 5ghz. Not a big deal because the range on my 5ghz sucks anyways, i just wanted to try it and see if it fixed this issue.
I got the Phillips speakers as well. I'm a little disappointed by the slow charge and low speaker volume for the price, but it works.
I did an alternative setup for my dad with a pair of cheap computer speakers from Walmart and Bluetooth dongle from Ebay. I also got a desktop cradle with spare battery slot that does a fast charge. In total it ended up costing a lot less than the Phillips speakers and probably sounds better.

WIFI Data freezes and locks up my router

Hi All,
I have a D-Link DSL-2740BR N 300 modem router. When I connect my HOX to it's Wifi I get data for about 10 seconds and then it totally locks up. I still have a connection and good signal, but no data come up or down. If I now leave it connected after about 10 minutes all wifi data on my router stops working so no other devices can use it. As soon as I disconnect my HOX from the wifi data returns to all other devices!
I have set the channel so it's not on automatic selection and I have given my HOX a specific DHCP lease, other than that I can't seem to change any other settings on my router that I can see would influence this.
Does anyone have ANY hints coz I don't feel like forking out for a new router and this is just ridiculous!
Thanks in advance.
this happens at work, my hox connects to a linksys wag120n, which is acting as a wap, its connected to another netgear prosafe router.
sometimes, not always, when the hox disconnects, it stops the internet working for all connected devices, even if they aren't using the wireless router at all! then i have to reboot the wireless router, not the other one, to make everything work again.
it doesn't do this at home, it's weird, i've tried playing around with the router settings but no difference... really annoying problem
Did you try to chane WPA to WEP encryption method? It may help. I had the same kind of problem with my Zyxel router.

I haven't tried that. I have had issues with ROMs on my old phone (X10) that it couldn't connect to WPA, but I didn't even think that could be a problem as it does actually connect... It's worth a try I guess, but I think I'm gonna have to try buying a new router...
Cheers.

Yes it is a really annoying problem. I do know that it happened less often with the original ROM & Kernel, but who am I kidding? There's no way I'm going back from CM9!
ive tried a factory reset on the wireless router, will report back whether it helps or not.

Ahh! Thank you! That totally fixed it! I can't believe that could even be a problem... Do you think it's the phone side, or the router side that's having issues with WPA?
Thanks so much!
btw, a factory reset didn't help, however, i have changed my 'Network Mode' option to 'G-only' instead of 'Mixed'
so far, so good, it's been a day or two now, one x happily connecting and disconnecting as i go in and out of office, and the internet hasn't gone down yet!!

Flaky Wifi Connection

Has anyone else had issues with the wireless on the Fire TV? Randomly my wifi connection drops out and I either have to reboot or attempt to connect to another access point and then connect back to my normal one. I have no problems on ethernet.
No problems on my Charter WiFi.
If you use the WiFi Adblocker app, make sure to force stop it after enabling the blocker because it causes random disconnects when left open.
What is your provider name/brand and what are the speeds?

No blocking apps installed. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection, the Fire TV just likes to randomly say "Connected with problems" on the WIFI screen. Everything else in my house is working fine.
Oh,that's what you meant.
I sometimes get that whenever I look at it,and it fixes itself a bit later.
I am unsure what the real problem is.

Yeah, it's quite annoying. After doing some googling it seemed like I wasn't the only one, but no solutions. I'm attempting to compile the latest version of the WIFI driver to see if that helps.
Any updates on this. My unit does this just about every time I use it. No other device on my network has any issue.

I was going to try a newer version of the wifi driver but never really got around to doing it. Once I start working on AOSP again I may look into compiling the latest version. But because recovery requires ethernet I just plugged it in to ethernet so it doesn't really bother me anymore.
My device is 100% stock. Should I contact Amazon about having a defective unit?
This thread is the only place I've seen where anyone else has this problem.

Did you notice if you light in the front was yellow at the time? I used a wired ethernet connection, but I have noticed at times I have managed to lose internet connection (while keeping local connection) and my light will be yellow and flashing when this happens.
Doesn't happen often (like 4 times so far) and not sure why, but I mess around with stuff a lot, so I didn't think much about it.

yes this has happened to me also a few times, but for me I just plug in Ethernet cable for a bit then unplug cable and wifi kicks right in and I'm good to go till the next time....dill
I have daily wifi drops... 50% of the time going to Settings/Networking and doing a rescan fixes it - 50% I must reboot the FTV. I have an ASUS AC68U with Merlin firmware and the signal strength is always "very good". I've tried both 2.4 & 5.0 GHz.
anyone have a fix for this?
thanks!
Same issue....any resolution ever found?

I have had my Amazon Fire TV since last Christmas and no issues until this last update was done. Now Wifi as well as Ethernet connections will drop and at first I thought it was Comcast and each time I logged into my account on my Samsung and ran the connection test, it was always fine, so I would retry FTV and it worked again. So I figured must have been a hickup. Well now it is doing it all the time so I am thinking it is the Fire TV unit. The light on front will blink Amber when the drops happen.
I recently got a fire stick. It has lost the WiFi connection twice, at which time the video I am watching is frozen to a blank screen with the circular "in progress" icon showing. I found that disconnecting and reconnecting the usb power plug into the fire stick gets it rebooted with the WiFi connection 're established. This seems to be a problem many fire s tick users encounter.
I had this problem too but after installing a wifi extender, the problem has subsided. I use a coredy WN300_EXT

Wifi issues?

On my Tab S 10.5 Wifi Only Model (T800), I am having some very very strange wifi issues....
It will randomly not access the internet (the wifi signal is still strong with the arrows pointing both ways but nothing will happen) No web sites will access eventhough more other devices can access everything just fine.... (Oneplus One, Laptop)
I have a DDWRT router and everything is set normally.... does anyone have any ideas?
Note: If i reset the tablet, the internet will work again... very very strange

Sounds like your router doesn't like your tablet very much
If you are sure it's connected you can always try to ping google.com from that device and see if the packets go through.
Could it be possible that, at the time of using and having 'no internet' with a steady connection, you are standing in a wifi blind-spot or something?
If not, it's probably just a hickup in your wifi connection, but this could be soooo many things....
yeah its really hard to troubleshoot.
I tried uninstalling updates from that stupid Samsung Sidesync app and so far its seems to have fixed the problem.... though I don't have Bluetooth on at all.
I'm having same issues , I read somewhere its a KitKat bug

wifi connection turns itself off

Had my galaxy watch about a month now. I have set wifi to auto but I find it resets itself to off. I then set wifi to on and then it still turns off. Any ideas on what is going on? I may have to contact Samsung and I dread doing so.
WiFi shall only be used if the watch loses the connection to your phone. It is only used for the remote connection feature, where the Bluetooth connection between watch and phone is lost afaik
Gesendet von meinem SM-G965F mit Tapatalk
It is set to turn on when I lose BT connection. It can't turn on because the watch has turned wifi completely off
I have my WiFi set to automatic and that works just as expected. Connects to WiFi when Bluetooth connection drops.
Gesendet von meinem SM-G965F mit Tapatalk
I had that problem and I've only gotten my watch for a couple of days. I just turned on wifi to auto when the watch was connected to bluetooth and it just kept going that way for the time being.
Update: I've seen that the WiFi turns itaelf off again after some time. I'm pretty curious to know what causes that.
Have had my watch five days now and have experienced the problem of not being able to reconnect to Wi-Fi..
Define a Wi-Fi connection to be used 'Auto' (when out of reach of BT). But next time the watch is out of BT-reach it is stuck in 'Connecting ...' ( seen in the status of Wi-Fi).
Have reported this as an issue ( I'm in Denmark) and got the answer: Try to 'Reset' - otherwise wait for an update.
My software version is: R815FXXU1BRHB
Maybe it is a router problem. In German forums some dudes have problems with fritz Box router. It does connect only once to the router.
I also noticed that. Probably watch tries to save battery life. It turns on again when you start to do something. Personally I find out as good feature. No drawback.

It is not because there are three options Wi-Fi (off), Wi-Fi (on) and Wi-Fi (auto). The later should (re)connect to Wi-Fi when out of reach of BT (the first two are manual). But the reconnect is never completed, stays in "Connecting ...".
What do you mean by "It turns on again when you start to do something."? My watch does not for the above reason (connection is never completed).
Doing manual Wi-Fi connection to same Wi-Fi works fine. When out of reach of BT to mobile it is connected to 4G network.

The sync Wi-Fi profiles setting seems to cause the the watch forgets the Wi-Fi password. This shows up as with that "connecting..." state. Try to remove that sync option from the wear app on phone and see if that helps.
I would like to use the Wi-Fi (auto) setting, but for some reason the watch changes that back to Wi-Fi (off) by itself. No idea how to make the watch to remember the setting.

Just bought this watch today. I have the same problem
Disablem "syncing" in connection setting on phone app cures the pproblem
Same issue here.
Just bought the watch and set it on Always on wifi but noticed that it disconnects after some time and then refuses to connect to the same SSID. It either says, authentication error, cannot connect to ...., or doesn't say anything.
Restarting the watch fixes it temporarily.
Keeping it on Auto, does not change from bluetooth to wifi when out of range.
Sync profiles is on. I will try with it off.
Did anyone figure the solution to the issue?
I am facing the same issue
