[Q] Can I put a metal band on - Moto 360

Hi guys,
Im fairly happy with my moto 360, I have the silver one with a leather stock band.
Altough I like the metal band more..
So, I have a simple question.
Can i put a metal band on, without cracking the back of the moto 360?
If so, wich one?
Thanks
ALSO : Is the stock leather band water proof? So for example, I take a shower or bath, it wont screw up the band?

Try the official steel band that Motorola has released for our watch. The official metal band has plastic sleeves that insert into the holes that prevent the cracking of the back.. You can also try the pebble steel band. I used the pebble steel band before I got the official metal band and I have no cracking on the back, but ur luck might vary.

Yeah, I did try the pebble steel band. It cracked the whole back.. Luckily for me I got a replacement !
Also, is the stock leather band water proof? So I can take a shower or bath with it?
Thanks

No, the leather is not waterproof. It stains and absorbs moisture. I had to dye my band a dark color to remove the staining from water and sweat.

Alright thanks
I think i have to replace it later this year. My band is already begon to recolor.. *sad face*
And you can sea the sweat on the inside of the band ..

I personally have fitted a Pebble Steel band to my watch, there are other bands available on amazon with various styles.
I would like to get the official band but its not for sale in my country.
You may need to buy a tool to help you take off the leather band as I found this a bit fiddly.
When you look to buy a new watch band, make sure that there is a notch cut out at the top of the strap. There are other threads that mention this.

Yeah, I had the pepple steel band to. But after that, my back got cracked.
Not sure if its due the pepple band, or due something else?

From what I have seen, the design of the Pebble Steel band puts pressure on the back of the watch - Which causes it to crack.
The official Moto 360 band has a special link design and spacer to negate this, I'm worried that this will happen to my watch and I am tempted to put the leather strap back on .
Although I've ordered a cheap strap from eBay that mimics the official design.

Ive had pebble band on my 360 since decembre ....no crack here ....

Is there any one that can tell me, if I can take a shower with de stone leather band?
Or is that really bad for the leather band?
I hope someone can help

The band will stain. Also it absorbs water so ends up getting smelly.

[Q] Plastic connector coming with the official separate metal bands for moto 360?

Hi!
I am wondering if the plastic "protector" comes with the official separate metal bands for $80?
The plastic "protector" is included with the new metal moto 360 models, but I'm not sure if it's only them or if they are being sold with the separate metal bands $80 at att.com aswell..
Why do I want to know? Well... I visited the watchmaker, he doesn't want to put on a custom metal band because "it will crack without some kind of protection". I believe him because thats probably why motorola added the plastic protector on their official 22" metal moto 360 editions. Also I wanted a more narrow band since I am thin - can only do that if I get a hold of the plastic protector for the 18 inch thinner metal bands that are not released yet
?
anyone who bought it and can answer?
We will once we receive them... Dec 5 was the availability date at the time of ordering, and that was the first hour they were posted on Moto's site.

Wait can the protector be brought separate or its only for the newer models?
Yes the plastic protectors are included with the official metal bands. I just picked up the band replacement kit during lunch today at my local best buy.
Cool... Not sold separately?
Not from what I have seen.. They do make the fit of the new metal band to be very snug against the watch itself.
I bought one of the Kriesler bands. They do NOT come with the plastic piece. Shame. They do look great however. If you have very large hands like mine, I only had to take out one link to let it get over my hand.
I can confirm that the OEM metal bands come with the plastic spacers, same as the metal band Moto 360's
Just had an online chat with Motorola support. I'll give an update about buying the spacer separately, when they get back to me.

Just a heads up - if you're looking to use them with non-Moto bands, I'm not sure it's going to work.
The Moto bands slide into two slots on the plastic connectors for a snug fit. Other bands are solid all the way across - if you were to take off their connector, the links would have to be the same size as the Moto bands.

I know the Pebble Steel metal band fits on the moto 360( it has the right fitting, its not full), but can someone tell me the spacer for the original metal band fits the pebble steel one? Or has someone found a way to get an other spacer?

The Pebble Steel Band does not fit in the plastic spacer provided with the Official Motorola Metal band.
I have a replacement watch arriving today, which will require me to move the official metal band from one watch to the other and I will take a photo to show you all what I am talking about.
Just ordered the official metal band from Motorola site today. Does anyone know if the included plastic spacers will prevent the back of the watch from cracking? I have read of so many people who have cracked the back of there 360 even with the stock leather bands. Can someone who has already gotten the metal bands from Motorola confirm that the spacers relieve the pressure against the back of the watch.

They do.
There has been one photo showing the plastic spacer breaking from the stress, but I've had mine for a week and the spacer is fine. It's been too small a sample size to say the back won't crack but just a few days in I'm feeling much better about it.
The watch is much heavier now, though.

Definitely. Both in looks (it's thicker and shinier with a color that is the same as the 360) and material weight. It's heavier than the Pebble Band.
I know a number of people will say that they can get the same thing for less, but if you've purchased watch bands before, you'll find this one to be of a solid quality.
Whether or not it's worth $80 will be up to each individual, but for me it's worth it if it stops the back from cracking because of the spacer..

Here are some photos to show you what I'm talking about. That spacer seems to be tailor made for the Moto band in how it slots in:
Had the leather band, and there were no cracks when i swapped to the Motorola metal band. 1 week later and there's a tiny crack starting in the corner. I'm going to just live with it and see how much it grows.

New replacement band

Hi,
Wish to share this for people who contemplate replacing the original brown band:
I just replaced it with a black leather band with off-white stitches, and also managed to keep the original Asus metal clap!
It looks just great, and I'm very happy with it
Some pics attached.
look very nice...
Looks great! Curious how you got the Asus clamp on a generic watchband... That's exactly what I'd want to do. Did you cut one end or something like that?

That's the beauty of it didn't need to cut anything on either bands!
It detaches easily out of the original band by pulling the clamp connector pin, and found several bands that I could just slide the Asus clamp on as-is. It attaches into one of the existing holes. I did widen the hole in the black band just a bit to get it in there all the way.

I know you have to just pull the connector pin out but on the new band, it must be a specific type leather band that accepts that connector pin on the one end right? Can't just be a generic leather band with a buckle... Correct?

I guess I just wasn't aware the buckle on a generic band could come off easily without cutting it off. Good to know though! Thanks for the info.
This was great....I really like the buckle and this was so simple.
Great job, well done - I was hoping somebody would post with a black band - looks nice.
From what I understand of after-market bands and clasps is that a lot of buckles are attached with a similar pin that attaches the band to the watch. Pop that off and you can fit a deployment clasp (like the Asus one here).
The clasps - of which there seem to be quite a few out there - come in various widths to accommodate the tapering of the band from watch to buckle (usually about 2mm thinner at the buckle end, but YMMV). So, a 22mm band might require a 20mm deployment clasp or buckle.
I don't suppose you could post a measurement of how wide that strap is at the buckle end, could you? Or, the inner-width of the clasp? That way we can buy online bands and be fairly certain that the Asus clasp can still be used.
I know I'll need a different strap when it's available in the UK, just toying whether to get a new clasp too.

Sure - The strap width is 18mm (also of the original band). The inner width of the clasp is 2-3mm wider.
I would recommend in this case to just step into a local shop, and pick something that fits. If you do order online be sure it also includes the spring connector pins that hook to the phone body. The original ones are not easy to interchange because they have a special release hook that sticks out.
Dang, I thought I did this first I did mine about a week ago, just didnt get around to posting images. Yours looks better since you used a band that tapered. Mine didnt (some cheap walmart band) so I had to cut tiny nothces on the latch side.

Thanks for that. For clarification, the band tapers from 22mm at the watch end to 18mm at the buckle on the original band, yes?
I'll try shopping locally, but there's not so much around where I live. I had thought about the spring clips, since they've got that quick removal lever, which wouldn't transfer. At the very least, I know a different deployment clasp can be used so it's not the end of the world.

I found the stone grey leather band stained with sweat and looked a bit crappy after a while.
I bought the official metal band which is really good.
Personal preference though.
I would go with the metal option if you go with the silver 360. The black 360 looks great with the black leather band and it wears well, even with sweat etc. If silver though, as noted above, the stone band does not wear well. I went with the metal band and bought a Cognac brown leather band at Best Buy to go with it. I scrubbed the band down with acetone, let it dry and treated it with 4 coats of mink oil, heat and hand rubbed and it is a gorgeous rich dark brown now that just looks awesome. So I have the best of both worlds with it now IMO. I am looking for someone to trade my new stone band for a black one now lol

$50 more for Metal, makes it way worth it. I've noticed its very staple and looks very polished. Overall its a lot better in terms of weight and looks. Plus I'm certain it protects the back of the device way better then leather when its sitting down.

They are definitely held on with regular spring pins. I switched my regular clasp (stone leather band) with a deployment style clasp right after getting the watch.

Best Milanese Huawei Watch Band Hands Down!

I originally purchased the Huawei Watch with black leather as I prefer leather bands to metal. All I ever really knew for metal watch bands was the normal steel links, which to me are heavy and rip the hairs out of my wrist. Not exactly something I would like to wear all day long. I have been curious about the Milanese style bands since I seen them advertised by Apple for the Apple Watch. Anyways, I started browsing Amazon to see what was on offer for the Huawei Watch. There are two styles as far as I can see. Milanese bands with a "clamp" style latch and a Milanese band that loops through with a magnetic "latch". I definitely was more attracted to the magnetic style band so I figured I would order it up and give it a go. The only thing I was worried about was the magnet being too weak and coming loose throughout the day, which is not the case at all. It also comes with the quick release style pins, so no tools are needed.
Needless to say, I love it! It makes the Huawei Watch look very sharp and unique in my opinion. It is very comfortable and provides a perfect fit due to the way it "latches". I am pretty sure it would provide a perfect fit for any wrist. It fits the watch so well that it appears as if it were made by the watch manufacture itself. Ever since I have swapped the leather band for the Milanese, I have had quite a few different people ask me about it and wondering "what kind of watch is that?". Also, if you compare it to the other Milanese Bands on Amazon, this one "fits" better. The band itself is slightly wider than the part that attaches to the watch / the part the pin goes through. This is how the original Huawei Watch bands are as well.
They are available in stainless steel, black, and rose gold. The stainless steel matches the standard Huawei Watch perfectly! The part that attaches to the lugs is a "brushed" finish like the sides of the Huawei Watch and not a glossy finish like the face. I actually prefer this, as it will not scratch nearly as easy. I am sure the black would match the black just fine as well. They were $17.99 when I purchased, but they are now $23.99. Still, worth every penny! I guess you could always go pay $129.99 + tax for the Huawei official Milanese band, which has an inferior clasping mechanism in my opinion.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0178KWW3C?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
Very cool. I've been interested in this style since I first saw the Apple version. I've looked online but all the ones I've found were using clips to latch. The magnetic band is very cool. I ordered one to give it a shot.
I would love to see some actual pictures of it on your wrist.
Can you post some pictures of the band on your watch?
Thanks for sharing! I have been searching some 2 months ago and could not find a magnetic loop band back then. I immediately ordered this band for HuaweI Watch and also for Apple iWatch and Gear S2 Classic... (Yesoo sells for all those watches!!)
I have a similar band by Hoco...black melanese mesh with magnetic clasp....couldn't recommend it enough! https://plus.google.com/111656357014042389917/posts/ePHuhxVeRpg - photo
I just received this very same band last week and love it! After purchasing a very similar 3rd party band for my wife's Apple watch, I thought this would be a great option for the Huawei watch and am very pleased. The magnetic clasp allows you to adjust for a near perfect fit on your wrist. This also has quick change pins, so it's very easy to swap back and forth between this and the original Huawei leather band when you want a different look. The only negative I've found so far is that the hair on my wrist gets snagged in the magnetic clasp if it's not aligned to the band perfectly.
Also bought it
I also bought one. The only thing I don't like are that some of the links stick up a little on mine near where the mesh is joined to the solid metal parts (You only notice if you look closely and from the right angle, though), and also the metal is slightly darker than the watch case.
Overall though, I'm pleased, especially considering I paid under $20 for it.
I can confirm. This is definitely the best band for this watch. I was thinking the magnetic band would come off, or the links would be messed up, but everything is perfect. As soon as I put it on I got a lot of complements about my watch. Too bad nobody know what a Huawei Watch is around where I live. They always give me a blank stare like I just spoke some foreign language.
I have both the clasp variant mesh band and this magnetic variant mesh band. The magnet is nice and easy to use, and it's very strong too, but the quality of the mesh is much higher on the clasp mesh band. Slightly thicker and feels sturdier, plus it's pretty much a 90% exact stock mesh band replica.
Sorry, I didn't even think to post pics. I will post some later today.

I have the hoco milances magnetic clasp band in stainless steel and I also really like it. My only complaint is that the magnetic clasp slips when I am doing any kind of physical work. I am a social worker my day but in the weekend I like dyi projects around the house. The watch slipping lose sometime is annoying. But over all the w a huawei watch looks great with this band.

I ordered this and have been using it for a few days.
The Magnetic band does come loose over time. I've had to tighten it a few times throughout the day.
I think I want to exchange mine because the magnetic clasp piece doesn't seem to be connected to the band very well. It isn't aligned properly and looks like 1 side is coming out. It isn't loose, but there is a brown (rust?) line that I can see. It is barely noticeable but I think it makes it look cheap.

I bought this one as well and really hated it. My review is on Amazon if anyone cares to read it (Cory S). I suppose I might had rated it better if I wasn't comparing it directly against the OEM mesh band...but probably not being they lied about the material it is made out of.

Nah looks the same shade. Just the shadows playing tricks on you.
I've been wearing this band for about a week. I have to adjust it a few times a day but it feels good. I haven't had any compliments on it either. The magnets get a little crazy taking it off. The band kinda all sticks to itself. I am getting faster at getting off and on one handed.
The thinness of the band really makes the Huawei looks super thick, hence why I liked my thick metal band. I also think it looks more feminine (IMO).
Thanks for this. Got the black one and loving it.

I've purchsed the clasp variant you mention here. The mesh is fine, as you write. Otherwise I consider the band pretty much useless, as taking on the watch is a project for a minute or more. Ok, I might not be the handiest guy, but the problems are:
- very tight clasp, the band barely goes through
- very awkward clasp system itself, very hard to use when watch is on the wrist (typical use case, isn't it?).
I can hardly use the claps even off-wrist. From what I can tell from the photos, original Huawei OEM band uses the same system, so it's possibly cheapishly implemented here.
I got the item "packed" in a soft plastic envelope, due to what (probably) it has a very ugly dent on the part which connects to the watch. One of the quick release handles on the hinge fell apart until I got home from work.
tl;dr;
Don't buy this totally noname chinese crap.
