[Q] Need help downgrading to KitKat - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an HTC desire 816 dual sim on Virgin mobile in the U.S. that has not been rooted or unlocked and still has stock bootloader and I want to downgrade from Lollipop to KitKat. Is there any way to do this?

You'll have to go to HTC support, and download the official kit Kat room if still available, rename it, put it at the root of your sd. That said you should be able to flash it but I don't know if there is a software version check.
An other way to do it is by flashing it with adb and fastboot.
May be someone can give better advice about the flashing process, but before this you have to get the stock kitkat Rom.
Maybe from there :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2768846

[Q] Help / Advice needed PLEASE..

Hi, I am new to the andriod platform an i have just got a HTC Desire with Virgin Mobile, PLEASE BE GENTLE.....
It does not seem to be sim locked as i have tried an Orange sim in the phone and it works.
I have seen a Desire with Froyo on it and want to upgrade my phone.
After trying all the guides on various forums i still cannot upgrade and VM is not offering the update OTA.
when trying the Goldcard method I get error wrong bootloader, when trying with the OTA named update.zip using recovery it also throws up an error and exits.
What i have done now is rooted the phone using unrevoked3 method which has worked.
i want to have a stock 2.2 phone, not bothered about keeping the root, if i put the OTA update.zip on the sd card (or goldcard as i have created one) and flash using the clockworkmod recovery which is now on my phone will this work or should i update the radio first and will i be able to get OTA updates in future ???
my desire is:
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband version 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Software number 1.23.351.1
Bootloader 0.80.0000
when it boots it has the VM logo but apart from that there is no other branding on the phone.
Obviously i dont want to brick the phone, i have done lots of reading and i am still unsure of how i can get my phone updated.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help....
Your phone is rooted?
Simply download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
Which is a rooted but everything else is the same as stock 2.2. That way you'll have the option to use custom roms etc.
If you need step by step instructions to flashing as the guide on that page isn't so detailed let me know.

Thanks for the reply , if i keep root i was thinking of trying this rom
h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726300
i take it since my desire is rooted and i am on boot 0.80.000 i will just need to flash radio first , then flash the rom??
will it matter that my desire is possibly classed as branded and has the operators custom firmware on looking at the software number???
do i just rename the radio to update.zip and put on sd card and flash with clockworkmod , then do the same with the rom ???
should i use the goldcard when doing the above or will any sd card be ok??
thanks again for the advice....
Update....
Took the plunge and installed radio 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 and then the Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM [Market issue fixed].
All went well but the phone was running slow.
Did a factory reset and wipe in clockworkmod and reinstalled the rom.
restored my apps using mybackup , got contacts back off google account and all is good now.

Need some assistance

I have restored and such on my Samsung/Nexus devices but browsing through here has me all confused haha.
My friend has a Virgin Mobile HTC Desire 816 (USA stock non rooted), he recently accepted the Lollipop update that came out updating you guys to 5.0.2. The issue is his phone is constantly rebooting now and would like to return to the firmware before you guys got 5.0.2 (Which I assume the Desire was on 4.4.4?)
I can't seem to find a guide that doesn't involve rooting and such, and I see mention of something called RUU? Is there a site that has all of the past firmwares to flash? Any guidance on how to accomplish the old firmware flash would be greatly appreciated!
Try this link

You'll have to root and unlock bootloader then relock boot loader but you should be able to get back to KitKat this way
Or just run the kk ruu.exe...found in the same link

help not sure what to do

So ive successfully installed twrp,Supersu and rooted my m9, i then flashed android revolution rom and no longer have an imei or service its all unknown. Although in my bootloader it does show the correct imei and info. Please help, my phone is a tbaytel/rogers canadian phone. My download mode reads
Unlocked
Htc_himaulatt PVT S-ON
LK-1.0.0.0000
Radio-01.01_U11440801_96.01.51207G_F
Opendsp-15.6.1.00522.8994_1026
OS-3.38.631.2
Anyone have any ideas it boots into os fine, bootloader and recovery all work too. Have the original case with the original imei on it. Phone new never been out of the otterbox. Have a lg g3 with the same network and everything if that helps with dumping radio info. Im sort of familair with adb and fastboot. I didnt have any issues rooting it or flashing twp.
Which firmware was it on when you rooted it?

Havent changed the firmware as far as i know i just rooted flashed twp and flashed the rom over. Forgive me if im wrong im not an expert. But that os on my bootloader when i googled the version comes up as stock rogers canadian. So i assume maybe it didnt flash correctly or fully? Im not sure what you mean by firmware entirley off to work but ill google and try to find out for you tonight thank you soo much for your help. Also my phone is S-ON havent messed with that just was trying to do the minimal to get android revo working for the gpu tweaks.
If your device was on 6.0 when you rooted it you can only use roms that are 6.0 based.
If it was 5.1 then you can only use 5.1 based roms..

I had the most recent update pushed to canadian htc m9s that rogers had. Pretty sure it would be 6.0
Anyway i can find out
I also did a twrp backup but the system image dump failed to write to my sd but all the other files did. If theres a way to extract that info.
So i just tried my twrp backup restore it failed because of the system image thing but now im back to my old stock rom and my imei and everything is in there and it says android 6.0. It now reads i dont have a sim card in it unlike before in going to try and put it in and see what happens will update soon.
So everything works now. But no Android revolution any ideas what could have happened? I'm not sure if LTE works not going to be in that coverage area for a few more days but 4g works good and phone is running normally.
There's no harm in rooting the device if you need root but when it comes to flashing roms you're best investing in s-off.
It would seem to me that you probably had a firmware mismatch. You can only flash mm based roms over mm stock rom, Lollipop roms over Lollipop stock rom.

Well everything works now from my understanding I was flashing Android revolutions 6.0 version which matches my firmware of 6.0. Also is sunshine the only way to obtain s-off
My Android version is 6.0
HTC Sense Version 7.0
Software Number 3.38.631.2
Yes sunshine and $25/£18 is the only way to s-off. Sunshine works great but be sure to read twice, act once.

Sweet thanks would you mind detailing the correct way to flash a Rom onto my M9 I've read a bunch of guides step by step and ended up with that issue I described to you so. Lol
Follow the guide that comes with the rom or the guide will be on the support thread. I don't support rom flashing as there is no need to fix what isn't broke. Stock roms are better for me.

Hi,
I'm not a 100% sure of any of this so its better you confirm them once before doing anything but I do have some ideas on how you can update. If you are not S-OFF you then i think that the best way to get root is using Sunshine - http://theroot.ninja/ .You will have to pay 25$ for using this though.Once you are s-off then its easy enough to root and flash custom roms and I would strongly suggest doing this first.
However if you dont want to root your phone or try custom roms/recoveries then you can still update to the latest verizon MM version while being S-on itself.Head over to this thread and follow the instructions:http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/official-ruu1-55-605-2-t2883845
I would highly recommend getting S-off using Sunshine as its highly beneficial in the long run. Let me know if you have any other questions.Good luck.

Stock Recovery for HTC Desire 816 3G Dual Sim India Version on Android Lollipop

I rooted my phone an year back I guess. I installed the CWM recovery and SuperUser. I did this after I installed the lollipop OTA update. Now, I want to install the Marshmallow OTA update and encrypt my device so, I wanted to unroot it.
I found other threads, but they were all for HTC Desire 816 running on Kitkat OS, I am kind of nervous that they will brick my device. If someone can post a link of the Stock Recovery (suitable for my situation) and the steps (detailed ones...please ), he/she will get a super-hug from me.
