I have a NE (network extender) in my home because I have terrible signal in and around my home. I'm aware that in order for my Note edge to connect to the NE, HD Calling must be turned off as the NE does not yet support 4G. What I've noticed when I'm NOT at home is when I make a call without the HD on, the phone immediately switches to a 1x signal for making calls. This is ridiculous. I miss my note 3 more and more everyday since I got this phone.
The note 3 makes calls just fine while keeping 4G AND connects to my NE just fine without my changing anything in the phone.
My question is, am I going to be stuck turning my HD calling off at home and back on everytime I leave my home? Is my smart phone not smart enough to do this by itself?

I got a email or text the other day from Sprint saying that i could get a app or something to let me run my wiFi and it not eat my batt fast???? I lost the link, any help? thanks!
I got the same one:
"SprintFreeMsg: Enable the Wi-Fi on your phone and improve your battery life by up to 50%. Visit http://sprint.us/wifi to learn how."
No app, just use WiFi instead of 3G. Yes, it uses a lot less battery (assuming you are connected, being disconnected and scanning constantly uses a lot more battery), and it lightens the load on their network.

Yeah. Otherwise I could not use internet while on a call. This only works on wifi or 4G.

I Can't find a thread about this, so I was go ogling and that doesn't really help. I am having major problems with my wifi it keeps dropping non stop and it's really annoying. I have my phone stock but rooted and was wondering is there any way to fix this? I know it's a Samsung problem but if I were to load this up with a rom should that help? Thanks in advance

Maybe it's your router or better yet the router settings. Have you tried changing any of those settings?
Am I missing something? How is it a Samsung thing? What kind of router do you have?

After looking all night I found a thread that fixed this. You have two choices really to fix or buy your router which I'm not going to do, or you can type in on your dial pad *#0011#. Then you click your menu button, click on the wifi option, and then disable the energy saver wifi mode. That made it so my phone wouldn't drop wifi connection anymore. NOTE: each time you restart your phone you need to turn the wifi energy saver off through the command *#0011#. Hope I helped some of you because this bug is truly annoying.

That stinks. I don't have any problem and I think this is only the 2nd time I've seen anything posted like this about the S4 (the S3 did have that issue and was common). I've never turned off any energy saver and mine stays connected 100% of the time. So you're saying either that or you have to buy a new router? What kind do you have now and what settings on it did you find out that cause this issue for you?
Right now I have whatever Verizon gives fios customers. It works perfectly for all my phones, tablets, and computer. Just not on my s4 unless I do the dial pad trick. I'll post a link on the xda thread when I get home on how to fix your router. It really does make me angry that I paid 600 for the phone and it does this. Hopefully Samsung fixes this soon since they acknowledge the problem

Do you have a dlink router?
GS4
My gf has an S4 and has the same problem. We have a Netgear WNDR3500. So it's not isolated to a D-Link. She also did the dial pad trick and it seems to work for her as well. Need to find a script to run on boot to set the power save to OFF.

I'm a looking for a ROM that will allow me to use my data while I am making a phone call. It worked when I was using stock but it doesn't work anymore.
The latest CyanogenMod nightly:

They should all do this. Just know it won't over edge, which is too slow anyway
Calling and data
I have this problem on my drive home from work a lot, with the stick touch wiz the phone doesn't normally distinguish between 4g and 3g. So if I am not calling I get "4g" all the way but when I am on a call a frequently lose data in one 5 to 7 mile stretch. Personally I like the google pay Roms. They are clean and I experience very few force closes compared to CM. GPE and CM also will show you when you have 3g or 4g (H or H+).

Oh it distinguishes it just fine, its just meant to display 4G for 3G and H/H+.. My guess is that data coverage is probably not that good in that area
Thanks.

Just noticed this. Mobile data still shows while on WiFi or turned off. I've rebooted a couple of times (even turned off mobile data, then restart, still shows) but it won't go away. No a huge deal... Just not right and bothers me.

That's strange, mine would only show Wi-Fi when it was on the 4g would only show while using data.
same here, if I believe the Verizon GS5 forums, same happened to them when Volte was pushed on their phones...

Are you running stock rom? Viper gives you the option to turn this on/off in their tweaks.

Ever since the update my Spotify and Tunein keep telling me I am offline when I am not on Wifi, yet my browser works perfectly fine when using data...
Do you think having both is causing apps to have this issue?

I don't use either of those so I couldn't tell ya. I did notice that my 4g icon changed to 4g lte while I was on WiFi, makes me think it's still reading towers? Idk...

I have the same issue and a buddy of mine has the same issue also. I went to the TMO store to check their display phone which was already updated to 4.4.4 and that also has the same issue. So it's definitely a software bug since it was not doing this on 4.4.3. Basically when turning on wifi your mobile data should automatically turn off, it's not doing this on 4.4.4 and thus your battery drains faster since both are on, you have to manually turn off data. And when you do turn off data, the icon still remains even though it's not active. Only airplane mode would get rid of the data icon.
Seems like they're issues relating to calling and the camera also, though I haven't been able to test these myself. But overall I'd say 4.4.4 is a buggy release, battery drains a little quicker too.

I have the same problem, fully stock, never rooted. I did wipe the cache partition but that didn't make any difference. I would be curious to see if it persists after a full wipe but I don't really want to do that to mine at the moment.

Yeah don't waste your time with a factory reset, I did this 2 times before I called a buddy of mine and also checked the display phone at the store. Its a software bug and everything I tried has had no effect, problem still present. Hopefully HTC releases a patch soon to fix this because data is constantly on, it does not sleep. The battery definitely drains a little quicker.
Weird, I don't seem to have this issue. Running latest OTA, stock with root.

I too have been having a lot of trouble with this update. Four or five of my programs that would work over 4G now only work when I'm connected to WiFi. I'm still able to watch Youtube and surf the web, but it's extremely aggravating not being able to play my games while I'm on the train to work. I wonder if it has to do with the radio update they pushed with the 4.4.4 release.
Hi. I've had the Note for about a week and noticed that I've been dropping signal and or the radio? I'm not sure what's going on but my phone will show 4G icon with bars, but I'm unable to used data/web or send mms. Anyone else having issues.

Try the following:
1) power off device, remove sim, then turn it back on leave it for about 5min, power off, re insert sim then power it back on.
2) Call VZ tech support and see if they can swap out with another phone, just tell them you phone randomly drop signal, they will attempt to re provision your device or ask you to do factory reset and if still not working, tech support (not customer service) could over night another brand new phone to you no charge. Good luck!
Thanks , got a new phone.

Both my wife and my white note 4's appear to have signal issues. I think the crappy signal and drop calls is only happening at home (west bend, wi). I have never had this problem with US cellular and because both our phones are having this problem, I wont to believe its not the phones (or maybe it is?).
Is there a number to update the towers for Verizon? How should I go about this?
