I observed a similar problem: Piston 2 (gold) Earphones are working fine every time they are plugged in. My Piston 3 are working only on one out of ten attempts.
I am using CM12.1 R4. No difference between Stock-Kernel or latest Xcelerate-Kernel. The behavier of both kernels is identical.

I tried to downgrade to CM11 R11, everything works fine. but I face the same problem when I tried CM11 R26 or CM12.1.
FYI, recently I change my Redmi 1s' daughterboard on service center because my microUSB port doesnt works well. Is changing my daughterboard causing audio jack doesnt works well?
thanks in advance.
Exactly the same problem faced by me...
The earphone works with cm11 older builds...but when I flash cm11r26 or any lollipop based ROM...it is not working...
Someone help...pls...

If you are using cm12 official build then you can file a bug in their bug tracker.
Or else if you have an unofficial build of CM12 then go to the thread and ask there.
I think this is the only way that you have to rely on.

Hello, I have same problem with cm12.1 (unofficial) and piston 3.
In fact I have the problem with several headsets with mic and volume buttons and so.
Headset with mic and without buttons is working fine.

Try downloading an app called SoundAbout from the play store. I had the same problem with my pistons 3 but now the headphones and mic are recognized but not the volume buttons. Good enough.
Even im facing the same issue with cm12.1.
With miui they r working fne.
Bt i found a workaround. This will help u to connect in the first attempt only.
plug them into ur ears (not the jack).
see 3.5mm jack has 2 or 3 marks on it.
So Try to connect it one mark by one. For me it connects at 2nd mark. I think for u too.
Now u will hear a small jerk sound coming from earbuds. If u dont...try to connect it rotationally. Once u hear the sound connect it properly.
Thats it. U r successfully connected ur earphones.
Now njy ur music. :victory:
Sry for my bad eng
Guys,I use too pistons 3 and @Luffy.d explained me it's kernel source code lack,it is a "bug" of the source code released by Xiaomi, only with a proper source code (fixed or even new) this bug could be fixed ,we weren't having this problem on old cm11 builds because they were using the same closed miui kernel source code, until a new redmi 1s kernel source code release by Xiaomi we'll have this problem,so until that moment do like @satti8893 explained
There was a small workaround. It was there in CM11 thread. Try connecting headphones slowly till u hear a static sound. Then push it in. It might work. This worked for me and played only through earphones.

The last cm 12.1 changelog says "Kernel updates for led notification and headphone buttons (thanks @luffyxda)". Does it mean our Piston v3 headphones will work with all their buttons functional? Or at least that the development is on the way to get it.

[Q] [Xperia S] CM10 earphone problem
Hello. I just updated my Xperia S from CM9 to CM10, and it's great! But I have this one problem which ruins the whole experience for me. Whenever I plug in my headphones (I use the new Apple Earpods) the sound still goes through the speaker. The only way to get the sound through the earphones is holding the play button when I plug it in, but then the music pauses after 1 second, and when I press play it just goes through the speaker again. I tried using the 'audio_policy.conf' from the CM10 thread, and I set the permissions correctly, but it didn't work. Is there any way to fix this? Because now I can't listen to my music. Thanks

Yes, same problem here, fix pls
I have a set of buds with an inline Mic and buttons. To get them to work I have to hold one of the buttons while plugging in. As I don't use these for phone calls I don't know what function the button controls. Labels are gone. ~Jaramie sent by my ION

I was just thinking, is it possible to copy the lib (or whatever file) that makes the headphones work on stock to CM9? I know it won't work with CM10, but it should work with 9. I want to try, but I have no idea which file I should use.

Can anybody check if the problem persists while using the Default sony Earplugs which came out of the box with L26i Xperia S? I am rounding up facts and what all to expect when I flash my phone

I have my Apple earpods working on CM10 All you have to do is download 'SoundAbout' from the Play Store. Open the app and change the 'Media audio...' option to 'Wired Headphones'. The only downside is that you have to change this option everytime you want to use the speaker, but at least the headphones are working

earpiece microphone headphone jack ..all of u ..??
Guy in my op3 earpiecen microphone r not working but whn connect headphones n re-startthet for few time around 5 min ..plzzzz.zz hlpp ....i m on stock shouldi flash any custom ROM .
So, basically you are saying that neither of your mic nor earpice works but when you use the headphone jack and restart few times it works for a while. I'm no expert but I'd say that there might be something stuck or something wrong with the headphone jack. Because neither the mic nor the earpiece works. Does your speaker work while playing music?
