Hi, Just bought a LG G3 from a friend and am getting no option to upgrade to android 5.0 from 4.4.2, when I try to update I get the message "You are using the latest software". My other mates have been able to update to 5.0 any reason I am not?

That's what I was thinking but would rather do it officially, any ideas why my phone does not have the OTA option?
any help?
Have you tried the official LG Mobile Support Tool and the LG PC Sync software?
Try the support tool using the update recovery option.
Good Luck!
Thanks for your reply, Tried LG PC Suite get message "latest version: D85510A"

OTA is kinda glitchy on G3. Upgrade via flashtool, you won't lose warranty or anything.
Just do "Upgrade Recovery" via LG Mobile Support Tool. It's in "Options" section.
Wrong software installation causes this. This operation will fix OTA updates for future too.
You can download LG Mobile Support Tool here;
http://tool.xcdn.gdms.lge.com/client/app/B2CAppSetup.exe
a Tip; Nevermind if program says there's a software update for your device.
Another tip; Connect phone in download mode
Attention; "Upgrade Recovery" operation will wipe your phone. So, don't forget backup your data.

Your data had to lost if you ran "Upgrade Recovery" successfully.
If you want, I can help you via TeamViewer
Hi, Thanks for all the help, I may need your help through teamviewer, these are the steps I did:
1. Switched the phone off and held the volume up key and plugged in usb to enter download mode
2. Firmware update screen appeared on phone after download mode screen
3. Support tool connected to phone
4. Clicked on options update recovery
5. The tool downloaded and installed update
6. Phone booted up with no changes.
Any problems with this procedure?
also when flashing it says something like lg d855 4.4.2

You could try downloading the LG Flash Tool 2014 from here on XDA and downloading a KDZ for your phone and flashing like that.

Have you tried using the TOT file and LG Flash Tool? That should get you to where you can update.

How do I do that? I've tried updating via Windows PC Suite but still won't work. Whenever I try to restore it, it says there's something wrong. Whenever I flash it, it isn't recognized or it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
You need to flash back to stock because if you check your RCT on the hidden menu it will probably say rooted. There is a way to remove the files via adb from what another memeber had posted a while ago but I would just backup my phone and flash back via KDZ or tot and dll method. If you have windows 8 be sure to disable signature verification at boot for it to work
Searching TOT files and LG flash tool then everything will be done
my phone is not working

more info is better than none, what did you do to "accidentally brick" your phone? and if you are stuck in download mode you could try the lg mobile support tool and re load the rom for your device.

READ completely, including the link in 4 before starting!!!
download the tool using the lg d851, under t-mobile. the tool is generic, and can be found at lg.com under support/downloads
1. install LG Mobile Support Tool
2. run Tool, it will query lg for updates and do so if needed.
3. Install USB Driver (dismiss if you have done so already)
4. follow this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51268802&postcount=21 (use 5. below to put into download mode, not vol up and down like the link states)
5. with your device off, hold the volume up button while plugging in your USB cable with the Tool open.
6 you system will recognize the device and configure drivers, this will take a minute.
7. continue following the link in 4.
I ran into the same problem and now i'm stuck in downloadmode!
Does this method work? Or is there any other fix yet?
Thanks in advance!

hey guys, don't ask for a different fix if you don't bother to explain how your phone got stuck in download mode. as for does this work? Why don't you try, it's the same tool used to upgrade firmwares instead of using OTA, and the link included shows how to get the tool to download the file (if it sees the same/current f/w it does not download the firmware) and you have nothing to loose, and this method is often used to recover from "soft bricking" your phone.
i was restoring my LG G3 to stock through the lg flash tool .....when i got through with it and restore was succesfull. somehow i forget the usb cable plugged through my pc usb port ...then connected my lg g4 that is where the flash tool got my Lg g4 on Downloade mode ....i tried all the methodes somehow i think the recovery is messed up .....i can get to the recovery through the button but it reboot straight to the download mode ....thanks every one for their support

Yea, at this point there no way to fix this without a kdz that I know of.
Call LG and tell them you need the kdz to restore your G4.

Anyone got any idea? The whole thing started with getting rid of the Genisys rom ... I did not like it ... I thought I was going to bring it back to the stock, but then LG Up wrote an unkown device ... I thought it was flash with lg bridge ... that's what I lost. .. has removed recovery and has stopped updating at 16% ... since then it is only download mode I tried to update but failed with all three programs ... LG up to start - unkown device, LG bridge stop at 16% , LG Falsh Tool 9% ... sorry for my english
Hi, I have weird issue with LG G3 D855. The phone works fine when Android is booted but the screen is blank at start up (no lg logo), when in recovery or download mode and while the Android is updating.
I bought this phone like that. I installed the LG G3 Stock Factory Firmware D855 European (LGD855AT-00-V10e-EUR-XX-JUL-08-2014-16G+0.tot and LGG3/D855/LGD855_20140526_LGFLASHv160.dll) using LGFlashTool but it still has this problem. Currently updated to Android 5.0 V20u-EUR-XX
Is it possible to be a hardware problem? Are there different parts on the motherboard that control the screen when is running Android and when is running bootloader?

Phone is currently not rooted. I don't know the history of the phone I bought it second hand with this fault It came reset to factory settings.
The only thing I installed is the stock firmware (LGD855AT-00-V10e-EUR-XX-JUL-08-2014-16G+0.tot) because I thought it will fix the the issue.

I tried the tot method from that topic and still got the problem.
I assume there is another OS that handles everything before the android is booted for example Download Mode or Recovery Mode and that's exactly when the screen is blank. Are KDZ and TOT methods flash that as well or I have to use something else?

Well if the phone works fine well i think you should just leave it like that, but it´s really weird that the screen is like that on the boot anyway, you could try to root it and apply a boot animation by yourself to see if it fix the error but the flash method should had solve the issue; you can try RomToolBox from the playstore or any other root app that changes your boot animation or look for a tutorial, maybe just maybe the boot animation is not getting flashed for some reason.
Hey,
My phone just got stuck and won't load up, but I have access to "download mode".
Is it the famous motherboard issue?
flashing an official firmware might solve it?
Thanks,

Can you go to recovery mode.if you can try to wipe data and cache.
After doing this if it not work so try flash official rom
no recovery

you can try it if no go, then contact carrier or LG get it fixed.
just gave it to them and waiting for an answer.
I have a warrenty for 12 monthes and 13 monthes passed since I have bought the phone.
Does LG policy is to fix it in any case?
Moreover my bootloader is unlocked..
Have you tried flashing the official Rom using LGUP?
tried, didn't work
You just download Lg Bridge and turn on the phone in download mode.. You will see in Lg Bridge that you have recovery option .. Hit that and it will download latest firmware for G4 and install it .. This will wipe all your data
ok but whats the difference if I flashed the firmware via download mode.
either way I am now waiting for a response from the lab.
Hi all,
I was wondering, once I have custom firmware and recovery on my lg g4, will I be able to reinstall the software from LG Bridge. I understand that I could use the kdz downloaded by it in LG UP, but I was wondering, if I put my phone in download mode, could the update error recovery utility in LG Bridge also reinstall it?
Thanks in advance for your help

I tried this recently just to see what it does, but it even didn't recognize the phone. So you probably need to use LGUP (which I used to go back to stock on my G4) or TWRP to flash something else.

I just tried it and interestingly if the phone is in download mode, it does get recognized as an LG device and will initiate an Update Error Recovery
