Hi,
I've signed up to a new phone contract with a HTC One M8 Gold colour as the handset.
However, I was sent the HTC M8s instead.
I call my provider and they said they will replace the M8s with the M8.
But I've had a look at some reviews online and I'm not sure which is better, the M8 or the M8s?
The M8s had a octa-core chip but at a slower speed and the cpu is 64 bit. The M8 is quad-core 32 bit but the speed is faster.
Battery capacity is a bit better on the M8s but no one seems to be sure if these "advantages" in spec work out to better performance on the M8s in real life.
Also, the M8s is priced at a mid-range phone whereas the M8 is still priced as the flagship price range.
So could anyone offer me some advice on which one to keep, the M8 or the newer M8s???
Thanks,
Shuja
Keep the M8 - it's better
It's an older flagship, so it has better support here
Also s615 is worse than s801

Thanks. I'm leaning towards the M8 so your comment just backs that up.
Anyone think the M8s is worth keeping ahead of the M8? Let me know your views please.

M8... Yesterday i bought an m8s, no root, no Custom rom, no support... So M8!!!

Hi there,
i have a question that might be just plain stupid, but it is something i'd really like to know. My question is: can ROMs for the One X+ be used on the One X, or is that impossible? I would like to know this because i'm about to buy a new phone, and i want it to be as futureproof as possible.
For obvious reasons the One X+ would be more futureproof regarding the specs, but i'm afraid since there were not as much sold of it as the One X there won't be long-time support for it with custom ROMs. Also, i definitely want MIUI on it, and i haven't seen MIUI for the One X+ yet. So if ROMs for the One X could run on the One X+, that would be great for me since it would mean i can have my phone longer before needing to replace it. Also i would be getting the bigger storage and faster processor. ( T30 vs T33.)
In a nutshell: i want the phone that is the longest time supported by MIUI, and since there were more One X's sold than One X+'s i'm afraid they'll only port MIUI to the One X, and therefore it would last longer. But if ROMs for the One X can also run on the One X+, then i would have a futureproof device that is also a bit faster and has more storage than the One X.
So is this possible?
Best regards,
dbhuis.
Don't be so confused mate!
The only difference between the One X and X+ is the extra few MHz which you don't need
and if you want your phone running latest custom roms, One X rom development is better than X+!
No you can not install a one x+ rom on a hox and vice versa !
They have their own section for a reason
@vin4yak: Okay thanks man, i know it's clocked higher but i wondered if there might be another graphics chip in there but if there isn't there is no point in getting it.
@ Mr Hofs: Relax man. I knew it was improbable ( hence the sentence "i have a question that might be just plain stupid" at the beginning of the post) but it would just have been awesome if it was possible, that's all.
What do you mean "relax" ... I'm just confirming your question. I'm not into typing a massive story. You ask a question i gave the answer !
The main difference is the battery and the memory. The o/c and graphics difference are minimal. There are some carriers in the UK who still provide the One X but say the One X+ is EOL, for some reason.

Then i guess it doesn't matter much. I am using 8GB sdcard now, so 32GB will be enough. Bigger battery is nice but not really exciting, so it's good to hear that the differences are minimal.

I know bigger batteries are better, but if i have to choose between custom ROM support or a bigger battery, i choose the custom ROM support. Also, it has the companion core so it should not be using much energy when in sleep.
And since i don't use it intensively it will be in sleep mode a lot.
And on the HD2 that i have now i can get through a day with about 80% left average. That is with a smaller battery, so i think the HOX will do just fine with a bigger battery. If it doesn't, i'll just fully charge it and delete the battery stats. That has always worked for me very well.
Hi,
I ask here for your help because I am planning to buy a new phone in the near future, and I am currently deciding between the One S with Snapdragon S4 and the One X with Tegra 3.
I would be very, very grateful if someone could tell me which one is better from the perspective of custom ROM development. Which one has more stable and less buggy CyanogenMod or similar AOSP-based ROMs? I've been lurking here in the One S and One X sections for some time and I can see that neither of those two phones is bugless, but I don't know how severe these problems are, if it is a dealbreaker or you can live with it. Also I get the feeling that the Tegra 3 is lacking in terms of development support and Qualcomm devices are better suited for future development. Is that so or am I wrong?
Another thing which I consider is the display quality, although it is not the main one. I know that the One X has a denser screen with better color reproduction than the One S, due to being an LCD panel, but the blacks are not as deep as the AMOLED on the One S. Is there a big difference? Do the blacks shine too much at night? It would be very cool if someone could post a good photo of the One X displaying a black screen at night.
Just one more question, how does the picture quality from the Sense camera compare to picture quality from CyanogenMod? I know Sense takes better pictures because it is optimized for the hardware, but is it a big difference?
Thank you really much for your answers, I aprecciate your help.
PS.: I posted a similar question here in the One S forum, if you want to take a look.
This is what HTC says on Reddit (and that answers the part about Nvidia vs Qualcomm quite honestly):
To address an issue that’s top of mind for many folks here, we recently announced that we wouldn’t be updating the HTC One X and One X+ beyond Android 4.2. Without the support of our chip manufacturer Nvidia, it made a global update of One X and X+ devices impossible. However, in US the One X uses the Qualcomm chip and an upgrade would be possible, but we didn’t think it would be a good experience for our customer base to update the X, but not the X+. This update caused a huge stir amongst owners and we’ve heard you loud and clear, so we’re now actively exploring how we can make the jump to 4.4.

So, Qualcomm FTW. But one thing I can't understand is how the Nexus 7 2012 got KitKat, when it's using the Tegra 3 too. It still feels like Nvidia abandoned it on 4.1, though.

The nexus 7 has the T30L while the OneX/X+ use AP33/37. Nvidia still provides support for T30L but not for AP3x.

Hi,
Dear One X users,
I am planning to buy an Htc One X/X+,so is it worth to purchase One X ??
Why open a new topic.....Read here

No you shouldnt. Its already outdated. And it has bad battery backup riddled with insane high temperature. If you can get this under 100$ then great. Else get one with any quad Snapdragon processor.
Ok thanks for your help.
Hey guys, i own an htc One m8 from verizon. One guy offered me an One plus One with a case, the earphone and some extra things.. Should i trade or keep ? Is the oneplus One better than the m8?
Thanks.

Definitely keep the M8.
I have been using the Oneplus since July and it's not as great as it sound. It's a good phone with all the good specs and price, but the touchscreen problem is horrible. And customer service is just as bad. They made a new thread about the issue, but where is the solution? I bought a M8 recently and it feels like it's from another world. Things I've noticed between the two are: touchscreen is MUCH more responsive., camera has faster focus and takes faster pics, Whatsapp voice message sounds like you are underwater in OPO, audio is way better with M8. I'm a fan of vanilla rom, but I actually really like sense after using it. I would suggest you test out the OPO and check for touchscreen issue if you're planning to get it

Go with OnePlus One!
Definitely BEST budget phone in the market( for now)
And Cyanogen is plus point. Compared to m8 the screen size is 5.5' and build quality, viewing angles are great!3Gb ram and Battery backup is excellent .Camera Quality is above average!
Go with OnePlus One Dude.Hurry

It's up to you. I would keep the M8 as it is a lot more premium looking phone with very good build quality and of course it is worth more!
I own an Amazon fire phone, im old user of cyanogen mod on all my past phones (moto defy, moto g, moto g 2014) and im in love with front facing speakers (big media consumption) also i play alot games on my phone and casualy taking some photos (big fan of filters tho)
I cant decide witch phone should i buy between these two beauty's. Im planing on instaling google play edition software on m8 if i get too many cons from m9, im concern about the overheating situation and throttling.
Can someone replay a screanshoot with antutu or gheekbench score from the m9? Im curious about IT
Also i have another question, i Heard about 6.0 add a Nice function for the micro sd to make IT as internal memory, is IT true? Thank you for your time!

Here's a capture from a Geekbench 3 test I just did on my M9.
I have both an M8 and an M9 and I would say that the Snapdragon 801 in the M8 gets much hotter than the 810 in the M9. I don't find that my M9 gets particularly hot at all, compared to the Snapdragon 801-based phones like the One M8/Galaxy S5/LG G3 (all of which I have on my desk at home). Besides, a throttled M9 is probably still as fast as a full-speed M8.
Yes, Android 6.0 on the M8 and M9 allows you to format your MicroSD as adoptable storage, which treats internal and MicroSD memory as a single large pool.

M9 all day. M8 was great. M9, despite the bad rap it got in reviews and other online discussions, is better. I've had both and was pleased with both. M8 on a good custom rom probably has better battery life, though.
Im glad people enjoy this phone and gives me Hope for a brighter future, i see a smal gap between these two devices, im still undecided because all the pro features from the both sides, maybe money will Be the Most important factor for my choise.the m8 is starting from 250€ and the m9 400€

Well...is that's the price difference, I'd be tempted to go with the 8
I owned the m8 and sold it cause I was low on cash. Later on I made a trade for an m9 since I missed the m8 so much. I have only had the m9 for a week so far but I have no complaints other than I noticed an echo on my one voice call I've made so far. Never had that on the m8 but could have been just a single incident. It's slightly faster than the m8. No overheating so far. The battery is about the same as the m8. For 250 vs 400 I'd probably pick the m8.
