I just bought a used Note 4, the oem wall wart came with the device but the USB cable is not original. Will fast charging still work with a non oem USB cable or do I need to buy a oem cable? Thanks.

I believe the fast charging has to do with the actual oem wall plug that comes with the note 4 not the usb cable.
It works with most cables. I also have an aftermarket quick charge car adapter and one for work

Hi, as you might already know that the in box charging cable is pretty short in length, so I need an alternative, a lengthier cable. I was wondering if I buy one of those cheap MicroUSB to USB cable and connect it with the charger would that harm my device? What you guys say?
Thanks in advance.

Yes - I use my kindle cable with an HTC charger and that works fine
Of own experience and I say no. Mine old usb cable that worked fine with Note 1, didnt worked with Note 2, when I plugged it in mine computer and it didnt recognized the phone. Why do Samsung have to copy everyhting Apple do? They changed the Lightning cable and Samsung changed god damn theirs microusb.

That's not a cheap cable by any means!

I've used el cheapo USB cables off of eBay with all my Android phones and have never had problems. A few cables have been dead on arrival but they're so cheap, I usually buy like 5 at a time anyways.
Of course, if you want to be absolutely super sure that the cable won't do any damage, you should buy official cables. But I see that as insanity, I'm not paying 19,90€ for a cable that I can get for €0,99 minus the Samsung logo. I just will not do that.
Hi all,
Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 running stock Android 4.4.2 I have used an OEM Samsung charger and cable always. But recently had to replace the charging port with an OEM charging port because it completely stopped recognizing the cable.
The install went well and the port works fine.
But I recently plugged in an OEM Samsung MHL HDMI adapter to watch movies on the tablet on my TV. Adapter works great!
The problem arises when I disconnect the HDMI adapter an then plug in the regular charging cable. The cable is not recognized. And it does not charge the tablet.
The tablet will ONLY charge if I use the HDMI adapter plugged in to the OEM Samsung wall charger. I have several OEM Samsung wall chargers and OEM charging cables, but the tablet will now ONLY charge with one specific cable attached to one specific charger and connected through the OEM Samsung HDMI adapter.
I used the adapter once on my Note 3 phone, and it has no troubles connecting to any other charger. But I amit, I am hesitant to attempt to try it again with the phone. I have lost the portability of my tablet now, since it will not accept my portable battery charger either.
Any ideas? Is there some sort of setting I have to change before disconnecting the HDMI adapter? I thought it was hot swappable, although I do not try removing it while it is sending. I turn off the tablet then remove it. Am I looking at doing another charging port install? Is this common with the Note 8?
Thanks for any help.

I had that happen as well not too long ago. Took the blasted thing apart and found that the MHL adapter's usb plugin to be cheap. Had broken internally. So I bought a cheap o replacement. Fortunately the replacment had a good quality usb port, so that said, should not have the same issue.
Think I have discovered part of my issue. The MHL HDMI adapter connector is considerably longer than the standard micro USB connector. This new Port is quite snug. Didn't think much of it after initial installation, just figured that old port was worn out. I think the snug fit may have allowed some shift of the port internally, even though it is screwed in. This small shift is just enough to prevent the micro USB from making proper contact.
I was able to utilize my portable battery pack when in the field with the tablet. Just connected the pack via the hdmi dongle. It worked.
Thank you for your insight.
I have a Nexus 5X, but I bought it only with USB cable type C to USB type A for the computer. The charge is quite slow with a Samsung charger, I want to know if any QuickCharge charger with USB 2.0 with my cable type C have no problems chaging or it's possible to burn something... In my town nobody sells USB type C fast charger.
The Nexus can pull down 15 Watt of power for a quick charge. Your typical USB 2 port is rated for 2.5 Watts. So, no you cannot quick charge the phone without having a charger that is rated for it. And you should not try. There USB C to A cables not built to USB C specs and they actually try to pull 15 watt no matter what the source can deliver. This is dangerous! Just Google it and read about melt downs and fires...
You should be able to get a USB C charger wherever you bought the phone

On Amazon Look for USB Charging Station that can charge 6 Phones at the same time. It has 2 Quick Charge ports and comes with 1 USB C Cable.

Ok thanks..
HI,
I've been trying out different cables and wall plugs with the S8+ to see which ones work with the wireless charger. The cable they provided doesn't reach from where I need the charger to be to the wall plug and I noticed that some longer cables (have one from Amazon that is 10' long) that constantly give the warning that it's slow charging.
Are there specific cables, wall plugs that I should be on the lookout for to buy (especially longer cables) that are rated for fast charging that will work with the S8+?
thanks in advance.

could you provide a link to the cables you're using so I get the correct ones?
Also, are these the USB to Micro-USB cables or USB to USB-C cables? I ask because to use the wireless charger, the connector TO the charger is a microUSB connection. Which makes no sense, but there you are. If it's the USB to USB-C then I will have to use it without the wireless charger which is what I'm trying to use for charging.
thank you
