Speaker Mesh part of waterproofing - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day, just want to know if the speaker mesh is part of the water proofing in any way? Mine just became loose but still can be attached. I just want to know if it's still water-resistant even with the speaker mesh loose?

[Q] does your arc sometime squeak?

my arc sometimes makes squeaking noises, depending on the way i'm holding it. it seems to be coming from the bottom part or back cover.
does this happen to anyone else?

I used to have this problem. But once I have "properly" attached the back cover, the noise is gone.
I've had a bit of issues, but it seems to be that the back cover doesn't quite fit tightly with the body of the phone. I just moved it around, pressing it here and there, and the squeaking is now at a minimum level.
arc cover
this is one of the reason i am in a fix..
i dont like to put cover to my phone. currently using x10 and there is no problem whatsoever.
it doesn't slip from hand, there arent any finger prints, smudges etc. etc.
how is your experience of arc without cover? ok.. i know now it sweaks.
apart from that.. i heard from some user that it slips from hand, its plastic is not that tough and will get marks on it easily.. is it true?
I had this problem on my Misty Silver phone at the middle edge of the battery cover I think towards only one side. But I think that is because I applied the full body protector on the battery cover too hard to get it perfect. The sound reduced overtime especially, after I removed the cover and fitted it carefully.
Currently, I still haven't applied any protector to my Midnight Blue Arc and hear to squeaky sounds.

Yes it does. Quite annoying.
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
regard on the screen protector, have u seen the type like iphone, protect scratch from front and back
My Arc has a creaky battery cover, it is okay at the top end where the headphone socket is but the bottom left and right corners and near the battery had some definite "give". I solved the problem by getting a heat resistant thick tape from Homebase and sticking a couple of strips inside the battery cover. Now it is solid as a rock...what a difference.
No squeaking sounds yet.

Is there a certain type of heat resistance tape you used?
Dont have this problem back cover fits nice
@kbadone nice avatar
Mine also makes noises sometimes. I already put some tape inside the back cover, but sometimes it squeks nevertheless.
My gf has a Nexus S and its body is much more solidly built.

It's just your typical bog standard tape you can pick up in any DIY store that claims to be heat resistant. I thought heat resistant would be better as I have a bit on the inside back cover that lies above the battery but it probably doesn't have to be at all, just get a nice thick tape. Worked a treat, I have a super un-squeaky back cover now!!
I have just got the Arc, and after a couple of days I had had enough of the squeaking. I then placed two strips (3 cm x 10 cm) of duct tape on the inside of the back cover, and it worked wonders! No more squeaking.

Defy housing sucks water resistant reassembling almost impossible

Yesterday I tried to change the housing of my defy. After watching some disassembling videos I started. Conclusion: To get the Defy water resistant after the intervention is an illusion. First most of the plastic screw noses were broken. They are really too fragile for a phone which will fit the IP67 standard. For replacing them you have to change the whole front housing. But with changing it you either have to buy a front housing together with the touch screen or you have to replace the touch screen which means you have to glue booth parts (front housing with touch screen) together!
Second the screws are a shame the reusing of them is a gambling game moreover they are setscrews within plastic. Screw heads wear out really fast because to soft material.
In the third place most of the parts are firmly connected with the housing, eg. the LED light, a few seals, some sheet metals, etc. Most of them you have to inherit to the new housing because of the lack within the new housing. With that in mind water resistance is gone, too.
Conclusing: The Motoroly Defy is a disposable device. The repair is too expensive (not even in money) and water resistance isn't guaranteed either. So buying a new phone or a barely used one is far easier than to try a repair of the old one. Too bad, but thats the way of market economy.
the front housing is indeed too expensive to be worth replacing. they replaced mine on warranty after i purposely damaged the touchscreen from the inside without leaving any trace. the rest of the housing is very cheap. about the side screw ears they are indeed too fragile and you may need to reinforce them from the inside by supergluing some paper that acts as fiber and then carefully sandpaper the excess so you can mount it back. you must lubricate the pink rubber seal from the inside with a little silicone oil to make it adhere better to the middle housing. also you have to lube the seal from the back cover to make it regain its elasticity. the lock from the back cover also has to be tighten by pressing with a heated spoon on its solder point. the usb seal usually gets too loose and cannot be fixed without replacing the whole middle housing.
i did all of this to experiment with it but the truth is this is too troublesome for most people and not worth the time or money.
Are You sure that oil used to lubricate the seals will not damage the rubber?

Xperia Z1 Case that covers all rubber flap, any ideas?

Hello everyone
I had an idea about using my phone under water to take pics and videos etc. I'm a little paranoid about the flaps coming open though.
I was wondering if anyone had come across a case that covers all of the flaps but still gives access to the shutter button?
Also if not, have you guys got any ideas as to ways of guaranteeing that they stay closed?
I know it's a bit of an odd request! Lol
Thanks in advance for any help!
Will
I had sourced this out in Fall last year, and every single case I could find had the cutouts for ports open.
The only solution I had found was a company that 3D prints their cases, and I asked them if they could make me one without the holes cut out. They said yes, but the case was $50 plus $20 shipped, and would be ready in 3 months (due to backlog of their 3D printer).
I never went through with the order, but it can be done. Here's why:
Mentioned by the above company, this will cause additional wear and tear on your device, because while your goal is trying to keep the water out, waters' goal is to try to get in, and if successful, even with the flaps closed, that case is going to hold it there. Moisture will now be locked in against the case and phone, and can cause issues such as paint protection, fogging and possibly water damage.
My advice:
You're best just grabbing some medical tape from a medical supply store, and using that to keep the flaps closed. Medical tape is waterproof, similar to a band aid, but has only a slight adhesive to it, so it comes off easily without damage to your screen protector or phone itself. It's perforated so it's super easy to tear by hand too.
http://www.amazon.ca/Complete-Medic...8&qid=1423238156&sr=8-5&keywords=medical+tape
NOTE: Do NOT buy cotton tape, or lower quality "medical tape", as most are designed for plaster casting and have a very strong adhesive to them. They WILL damage your phone and possibly tear off your protector, damaging it. Look in low quality first aid kits at whatever "big box store" you want (WalMart, etc.). The cotton tape is white, and requires the use of scissors or a knife to cut. That is the **** stuff. If you can't easily tear it off in a straight edge by hand, it's not the correct stuff.

What material is the side panel made of ?

So I may or may not have dropped my phone from around 1.5m on the bathroom floor (not tiles) and just now i noticed there is this rather pleasantly HUGE dent (sorry I can't make a picture, I don't have any other devices on me currently). It looks like its not plastic as its more bended than broken or chopped. I was wondering if I may be able to straighten it up with a screwdriver at home. By the way apparently the dent is on one of the chops where the back cover is holding, that's why it all happened, as my ps4 monopoly guy says: "Truly unfortunate!"
Same here, a dent in the side panel, how do you fixed it?
Feels and looks like aluminium to me (or aluminum if you're in the US!).
Feels like cheap plastic to me with a light semi-metallic coating of some sort. It appears to easily flex and bend.

Just bought a new case and tempered glass!

Hey, these are the products. What do you guys think? Was this a good choice?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281595074001 (Case)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361423352816 (Tempered glass)
I'm anti-case, as I believe the phone looks better caseless. It's hard to say anything about the glass cover since they're all the same. I prefer the cutouts for the speakers compared to something like this where there are cutouts around the speakers. Some say it looks better, but experience showed me that water on the screen is more likely to soak your speakers with that screen cover. The one you picked? The water droplets won't collect at your speakers so easily/quickly, allowing you to enjoy using the speakers while in wet conditions for far longer.
