[Q] Wifi problems - Sony Xperia M

I bought a used Xperia M for my mother.
Everything works great (i update to latest stock sofware) except wifi.
it says I'm connected but wifi keeps droping. When using chrome, it just hangs there and no page loads. And I tried using Fongo (Voip app), I can place a call, but after 10-20 seconds, I can't hear anything, and the other side either.
The wifi icon is always there, but clearly the phone drops the signal.
other phones/computer in the house have no problem on my wifi network.
Any ideas?

May be, you've been fooled. Oops, sorry!
Try reflashing stock firmware, full wipe will be great!

It's possible, but I doubt it. The lady that sold it to me didn't strike me as the scamming type. If something is wrong with the phone, she probably didn't know it. And either way, fooled or not, I'm stuck with the phone now...
My mother doesn't use the wifi on the phone, but if she wants to switch to using voip, it would be nice to have the option.
And the first thing I did when I got home was a full wipe with a flash/upgrade of stock firmware using Sony program.
I'll try doing another one just in case.
I read on other forums that people were having these problems, but no one had a fix for it..
Thanks!

but are you sure, you have try to repair with pc companion and it's still broken?

Yeah i just did it. I did a repair with complete wipe. It does connect to my wifi but it works only for a couple of minutes. Like i said my mother just uses the phone for calling and texting so it's not that big a deal. But I would have wanted to give her a 100% working phone...

I check around and on the sony forums some people are having the same problem, but no clear fixes.

Brother, have you checked what WiFi band frequency is selected, I had same prob when I had 5ghz selected and my office Wi-Fi was on 2.5ghz, I selected auto then.

The wifi band is set to auto, i tried both separately too. Keep wifi awake is set to always. And i tried a combination of all the other settings. The phone is set up just like my phone and my g-f's phone. The reception is excellent on the xperia, it just sort of freezes...
Anyway my mother came to pick up the phone this morning and she didn't mind the wifi not working. If she ever chooses to switch to voip, I'll either try to fix it or change the phone.
I'll try to look around in the mean time if I come across a fix. If I do i'll try it when she comes to visit.
Thanks!

[Q] Phone hangs after calls

My phone have been acting strange for awhile now. Sometimes after I end a call the phone seams to lock itself så I can't recive or make calls or sms.
It does'nt happen all the time and it started when my phone was completly stock aslo.
I've tried diffrent roms without any change. Did a factory reset today and did'nt install anything and it still happend.
Got a tip to try another SIM card but it seams my kids have lost it somewhere so I can't do that now.
Also had it sent to service and they changed the motherboard on the phone, so it should'nt be hardware related either.
Any other tips perhaps?
No ideas what this can be?
I have to restart my phone like 15-20 times a day because of this problem

I cannot understand what you mean by "lock itself", is your phone getting frozen? does it disconnect from network? does it just simply stay connected and do nothing when you dial/sms?
I think this info can help people directing you in the right direction...
When I end the call the phone icon stays in the notificationbar for like 15 seconds and after that I can't call or send sms.
Only way to get it working again is to reboot the phone.
I can still check e-mails and use browser when it happens, so it's only calls and sms that's not working.
Tried to format my memorycard today to see if it helps.
For some reason it seams to be working better when I'm at home and use WiFi.
Could it be that when I'm talking on the phone and it tries to sync something it happens? But when WiFi is on it works anyway? But it's a workphone so I don't use it much at home so that could be it too
If you are not using 3g/HSPA data and only using WiFi, it is worth putting your phone into 2g network only and see if that helps the issue.
You can do that in wireless and network setting, mobile network and chose GSM only.
Guess I could try that to. Question is what to do if it work.
Seams pointless to have a smartphone without 3g.
Or is there something more then the motherboard that could be changed perhaps?

If switching to 2g works, either it is a Radio problem/Network compatibility problem or hardware. I would suggest contacting HTC again and see they have an option to change something else.
Tried this week with mobile internet turned of and the phone worked like a charm then.
Think it could be the sim card that causes that?
Gonna try contacting htc again and see if there is anything else that could cause it.
Have been trying different radios aswell without luck.

I feel your pain mate,
I've had the same problem. I discovered that my phone was leasing the same IP from my router over and over around every 2 minutes due to DHCP. Then, after a while the connection would be ****ed up, grey wifi bars, sometimes still blue. Everything pointed to having a working connection. But doing anything involving an internet connection on the phone resulted in NOT being connected at all. It drove me crazy aswell and after a couple of hours of Google Fu I resolved the issue by simply assigning a static IP for my phone and using Google's Public DNS servers.
Give it a try, maybe it'll work for you aswell.

Long press on your network and tap on 'modify network' - tap 'advanced setting' and scroll down a bit, there are a few more options.
To assign a static IP you should have basic knowledge on how to configure your wifi router and such. Can't really help you there, either you know what you're doing or you don't. Things differ from router to router.

EDIT: Bulls**t!!!! don't works...
Well, that's unfortunate. I'm still baffled on why it's acting up at all. My phone was fine for almost a month before it started acting up, and I didn't change anything on my phone. Same ROM... and all of the sudden, WiFi started acting all weird.
Also I just discovered that changing 'Keep WiFi on during sleep' to never, does absolutely nothing. WiFi still stays on during sleep.
I don't know... it's the same case... I restored all the phone, lock de bootloades, etc And I updated by OTA, one by one, to 4.1, when the problem begin again... grrrr
Any idea pls??
After a lot of test.... the problem is only in jelly bean 4.1.1 y check a lot of roms 4.0.4 and works right, but in jb...

3G/Data connection hung up

I always have to reboot or turn to airplane mode to get it responsive again.
Its annoying cuz first, yay I can browse happily and fast, but after a few page, the data icon will stuck(arrow up and down wont change, stayed on white colors), which made every connection error.
Rooted/Unlocked/Custom rom/Custom kernel. Tried every baseband available but same trouble.
Is it related to faulty sim card? or is it my network is the problem? tried other carrier and worked fine though.
and fyi, AOSP gave less problems except connection drops sometimes(which is related to AOSP thing I guess) but data hang is not frequent. On Sense, every single time!
+1
Happens to me as well from time to time.
Anyone knows what is the cause?

I called my telco and ask them to check the connection with my number. they said its unstable and improperly connected. so they rebooted the (I dont know what they called) and etc. Rebooted my phone, turn on data, and damn it worked! Speedtest gave me average of 7-8 mbps for download. i rarely get that. now no more hung up. now i'm in love with my hox back. never thought thats the problem since other phones are working well previously.

WiFi not connecting, reports two slow?

So this has happened to me at home and work but it's not consistent. Some times when I try to connect I get a message on the WiFi connect that says "Network disabled because Internet connection is slow" (see picture). Any idea what criteria is used to determine this, and is there a way to over ride it?
I'm at work right now and I just got kicked out wifi due to too slow lol.. but at home I have not got it yet.. maybe too much people at work using the wifi network. .
I setup my home network to have separated name (SSID) for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Network.
When I connect to the 2.4Ghz channel, no problem.
At the same distance, like 6 inches away from the router, when I connect to the 5Ghz channel, my 2 Galaxy Note 3 shows the same "network too slow" error and it will drop the connection.
This is one of the many reasons I returned my GSN 3
I also experienced another WiFi error.
At work, I can connect to the WiFi network with the WPA password provided, on my HTC One with no issue whatsoever.
When I tried to connect to the same network using the Note 3, it keeps telling me I have to "sign-in", when I click on the browser to "sign-in" (like those Free WiFi you can get at the hotel), there is no sign in page (because there is none) and brings me right to Google.com.
After that, the connection will last for 30 seconds or so and drop off.
The one I got initially and the replacement, both have the same issue, and I did inform T Mobile before I return them back.
4.3 problem? Samsung's problem? I don't know... All I know is I will wait until they resolve all these before I will reconsider getting this phone.
I spoke to them on same issue. Got new phone and they working on updating the WiFi drivers.
NOTE 3
Here is the fix for this it worked for me try this....
Go to wifi advanced settings lower left corner then uncheck auto network switch. Then check the box that pops up that says don't ask again. This should fix your wifi connecting issue...

So far yes. Not a 100% sure though because the problem was not consistent. Sometimes it would connect sometime give the message. So, I'll keep you posted if it comes back.
Not trying to say your post isn't serious enough but we all who are having this problem on a consistent basis need to make a thread about this and just not take anything for an answer, but to give people somewhere to complain about this & hopefully bring more attention to this because there is nothing that is fixing this issue. The only thing that will fix this is Samsung or a Dev on a custom ROM hopefully. If you uncheck the options in advanced settings, it just stops the pop up from coming up telling you the connection is to slow & dropping you, after unchecked it dont drop you but while still showing you a full connection it will not do anything data wise, connect to the internet, switch to a different site, no facebook, no twitter, no market etc..... Nothing, you dont get dropped you just cant do anything. I hope my anger dont make anyone think Im arguing with anyone in here and their opinions, we all have this problem and are trying to help eachother, im just poitning out that those who are thinking this is fixing things its not, its just stopping the pop up. I am very frustrated this is happening on a brand new phone i waited this long for and paid as much as i did for. There should be a freaking petition started for this cause its just wrong.
Works fine for me my wifi never disconnects now after unchecking auto network switch and always scanning... Idk what to tell you guys that are still having the issue because I had the same issue when I first got the phone too...
Maybe try forgetting the network then reconnect after unchecking those settings and reboot...

Not all phones are created equal. Samsung needs to change the wifi drivers on the phone or a dev needs to take note 2 drives and add them to a custom rom.

I posted this in a different forum also but figured id post it here to. I just got off the phone with Samsung & they told me its not a major reported problem, wtf, lol? Everyone i know who owns this phone has this problem with it sayin internet connection to slow and booting them off, even with full signal. Im on my 2nd phone now & have the same problem. They tried telling me to go in to the wifi call settings & turn off wifi calling preferred, & i said why? Even though it's checked I have it off. I said seriously? what is that going to do for a wifi signal problem, lol. It's not my wifi calling it's my full wifi signal. I can tell this is going to be a huge problem & im returning my phone, 3rd time now, for a new one today, if i get the same problem, almost positive i will, im sadly going to have to return this phone & just get a refund instead. & that would really suck. Maybe i'll try a black one, but im sure it probably happens on that one to, lol.
I have been having this problem also. Turning off "Auto network switch" in the advanced network settings allows the phone to hold on to the connection, but it is completely unstable. I tested the connection using iPerf and it was all over the place. I can post screenshots when I get home later if it helps anyone. Samsung definitely needs to step in here.

P Beta - Agressive WiFi to Cellular Handover

Does anyone know of a way to get aggressive wifi to cellular handover back in Android P? It used to be an option under developer options.
It's still there. Under networking. Turn off mobile data always active.
Like me lol
That's not the same thing. In older versions that was there but there was also the aggressive handover option.
My problem is that whenever I'm right outside of my work building it keeps connecting to wifi, but the signal is so weak nothing happens until I turn off wifi.
With the option that used to be there this wasn't a problem.

Maybe it's just not available yet in the betas.
So... this setting is missing on the official version also... did it move somewhere else or was it removed permanently?

I no longer see it either, but remember using it back on my 6P.
The mobile data always being on should work just fine for that though.

Perhaps some cellular provider business partners urged Google to make some more money for them.. and voilá.. there goes your "agressive handover" switch.. Instead of really useful, real customer-usecase driven features, like this, we get a dozen of useless vapor-features like digital wellbeing, that no one ever uses. Thanks, Google
